Short staffed during the day on NYE. Assume they had many more on the late shift. Led to slower bar and food service than normal. Great pub generally

Extraordinary service, brilliant staff. For the team Christmas lunch we were given a room to ourselves that's built into the garden. Cosy and well equipped. The service at the Albion has been outstanding consistently. The food can be good or disappointing at times. The festive meal was excellent. It's a good place for an informal work meeting or just a lunch with friends. The specials are worth looking out for. I haven't been in the evenings.

Stumbled across this place while looking for somewhere dog friendly to eat and have a drink. It had a fantastic selection of beer and cider on tap, with a good selection of food at affordable prices. The staff were very friendly and the service was fast. The atmosphere was excellent - rustic and modern at the same time. The lighting was perfect, not too bright, which really added to the ambience. They even had light background music. There was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It was also very clean, with the tables and bar looking spotless. I didn't enjoy the njuya mac and cheese, but the katsu was surprisingly good with a generous portion of rice. The chicken schnitzel was ok, but smaller than I expected, and the buttermilk burger was succulent. I would definitely recommend this place for a casual meal and drinks, especially if you're looking for somewhere dog-friendly with a great atmosphere. Bushy park is only a 10min drive from here and we enjoyed a stroll after lunch.

From the thousands of pubs in the UK, how do you determine which one(s)are good or substandard? Well, The Albion can be used as a benchmark of what is a great pub, not just good, should be. Epic Sunday roasts, generous in portion yet not lacking in flavour, with scandalous toffee pudding we had to get two. The chicken burger was also crispy and delish. Spent the afternoon chattting and kicking my friend's daughter in chess, with board games aplenty. Our mates from out of town were delighted and impressed. Wish this is my local, but it ain't. But I'll be damn sure to pop in when I'm around Kingston.

One of my favourite pubs ever - the staff are great, the food is excellent, and the beer is well-conditioned abd always in great variety. I've never come here and not found an excellent cask ale. The atmosphere is excellent, the pub quizzes when I lived in the area were the highlight of my week, but now their saturday vinyl nights are hosted by Kingston's best selecter, Shaks (remembered for the best record shop in town, Shaks' Stax of Wax), which cements this venue as a 10/10, 5*, Upper echelon beerhouse. Always a good time, solo or with friends. If you find yourself in Kingston, make your way here.

Has unfortunately gone a bit downhill. We’ve been regulars here and it’s a shame to see things deteriorate. However they have somewhat. Not being told when ordering things (and having paid for them) that they’re actually out of them is a bit much. This afternoon my mother asked why her dish came without the advertised smash avocado and was told ‘check the menu and see if it’s meant to come with it’. It was. They’d run out. They didn’t offer an alternative at first and then suggested some guacamole instead. I ordered a roast, that came without the seasonal greens. I ordered a chocolate clementine tart and then after was told it wasn’t available. Some of the staff were working harder than others it was quite clear. The food, what there was of it, was delicious as we’ve come to expect. But seriously, things are not as good as they were.

This used to be one of my favourite pubs in Kingston but I won't be going there again. The service (if you can call it that) was offhand to the point of rudeness. Half the lunch menu was unavailable and the ciabatta sandwiches we did have were really disappointing. Awful chips as well. Such a pity as the pub garden remains attractive and a beautiful spot on a warm sunny afternoon.

By no means a bad pub but could use some whipping into shape to be honest. Some poor floor management meant there were reservation signs out on Friday that shouldn’t have been there, plates and glasses left out etc. Small things I admit but they added up to a bit of an amateur hour feel. Also, I got the ribs which claimed to be smoked but they weren’t. Nice enough flavour but missold. Not bad! But not great.

We will be avoiding this pub from now on due to the terrible food and nonexistent service. We ordered 2 x double cheeseburger and chips for the adults and 2 x cheeseburger and chips for the kids. The kids burgers were tough and chewy and all the buns were burnt (the buns from two of the meals were too burnt to eat). The chip portions were miserly. Staff were extremely slow to clear plates and no feedback was sought to see if we were happy with our food (presumably they already had an idea of the answer). Another family asked whether we could recommend the food as we were leaving. I was honest and said that I wouldn't eat here again.

The drinks are great, the beer garden is lovely, and most of the staff are wonderful. I’ve talked with my friends over the last few months and we’ve all seemed to have a strange experience with one of the employees, possibly the manager? Just very rude answers to simple questions asked nicely. We are all students and come here a lot for the great beer and atmosphere, and we all work in hospitality as well so we completely understand when it gets busy or someone may be short tempered. However I once asked if they happened to offer a student discount and, verbatim, this employee said “HELLLLL NO! Go to Spoons if you want that.” I was like 😳 and did not know what to say. My other friend ordered a beer that must have been empty at that time (can’t see another plausible explanation?) but the employee just said “No.” when he asked for it. No explanation or redirection to something else. I know that’s not the biggest deal but still a bit jarring. Besides this employee, the drinks are fantastic and the staff are always so sweet and accommodating for us and we really appreciate this place!

We booked the Albion after searching high and low and for somewhere for a Sunday roast. When we arrived we were the only people eating for a while (this is important) and sat for our meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful, however once our meal arrived it was cold. We spoke with staff and they took our plates back to the kitchen. When our plates returned, it was obvious that they had been microwaved (except 1 out of the 3 plates) as all of our food we had cut into such as a roast potato (which were hard and dry) when we first began our meal was in the exact same position, just warmer. No attempt at even pretending they hadn’t microwaved. I would not recommend for food. I would recommend for staff attitudes, selection of ales/ciders, vibe and beer garden, dogs allowed 🐶

Maybe our Sunday visit (25th February) was just unlucky, but it was dirty there, rude silent service (like literally no words to you back when you order, they just throw the food on your uncleaned after previous guests table silently), long awaiting time in a semi-empty pub among semi-broken furniture. There were at least 2 bartenders, but there were never at the bar. They also have a cool vinyl records player, but there was no music, they never turned the record over while we were there. A very disappointing experience altogether. On entering the pub I said hello to a member of the team. She couldn’t muster hello back but told me instead that she was writing a sign. We sat outside because it was full. We took a friend from overseas as he’d been before and enjoyed good food and beer. We ordered a burger, hot dog and beef Bourguignon. On arrival the fries with burger and hot dog were tepid and hotdog been cooked previously . After the beef Bourguignon arrived we then waited a little longer for cutlery. Instantly I notice that the beef B was not hot and the mash that accompanied it not hot enough. The waitress who delivered the food was then stood on a table near us with an vape in hand and when she finally got down I got her attention to tell her the beef and mash were not hot enough. My friends were not bothered about sending back their fries. My meal finally came back after a few mins in a microwave. The beef was like a regular stew with the odd mushroom and lots of carrots. The mash was awful and seemed like a none qualified kitchen porter had just squashed some lumpy potatoes forgetting the butter and cream/ milk that would have made the creamy mash as described on the menu. The staff really don’t care and are casual and apathetic. On reflection we wish we’d not bothered. We headed to the Spring Grove where the welcome was warm and menu amazing.

This is otherwise a great pub but the food has recently gone downhill and the chef is stupidly stubborn. Ordered double cheeseburgers this evening which turned up with only a tiny single patty - and despite being obviously misadvertised, the chef refused to accept that a single small burger patty was not the same as a double. Clearly maths not their strong suit and we ended up returning the meal rather than finding a happy middleground, a lose-lose situation which we would rather have avoided. Also ordered a side of chicken wings with a blue cheese sauce - which turned out not to be blue cheese but nothing more than mayo. The food here used to be good, but my last couple of visits have been so disappointing. I get that these are tough times for everyone and the pub may be making some cutbacks, but I’d be ok with it if the menu actually reflected the reality of the food being served - unfortunately at the moment, it doesn’t.

It really galls me to give such a bad review but one of the best pubs in Kingston has become one of the worst. The food is AWFUL. We went 2 weeks ago and my chicken burger (an old favourite) was terrible - they had battered the chicken like it was a piece of fish. Th me max and cheese had been made with big pasta like rigatoni, the sauce was watery and the top burnt. Hoping it was a one-off, we went tonight and ordered a “normal” double-cheeseburger. There was only a single patty in the burger and it was tiny. We complained and the excuse was “they had a different butcher and the burgers were twice the size”. I’m sorry but it was quite clearly a single, small patty and totally unacceptable that the wait staff lied when they could have just said they were low on burgers. We ended up sending it back which meant we went hungry and the pub lost money so no-one wins. I love a great pub and have been here for many years, so it really does sadden me that I have to recommend people don’t come here any more. The pub needs to either look itself in the mirror as it’s not currently deserving of customers money.

We booked a 5:00 pm Sunday roast at the Albion for after our visit to Hampton Court Palace based on online reviews. We had visited Kingston Upon Thames before as a little break from the middle of London and enjoyed it, and we also figured that we’d be eating with locals versus a bunch of tourists like us. We really liked it! One of us had the half chicken roast and one of us had the trio of meats roast, which were all tasty, especially with the added sauces. The accompaniments were really good (mmm, cauliflower cheese…) and we appreciated all the veggies. We got there a bit earlier than our reservation so had a chance to enjoy a cider and a chat with the local gent sitting next to us before our table was ready. As expected, at dinner we were surrounded by extended families (and a couple doggies hanging out by their owners' feet) enjoying their Sunday roasts, which was delightful. (As a side note, you order food at the bar vs waiting for a server to come and take your order.) All in all we had an awesome time and an excellent pub meal, and we would highly recommend the Albion.

The food was ABYSMAL. Looking at other people’s pictures I feel sorely cheated so maybe we got a substitute chef or they were ridiculously hungover but my dad’s roast chicken was so dry it was inedible. I had to send back my veggie burger because the bun was so stale and burnt I couldn’t even bite it, it was like rusk. The second bun was still stale (but at least I could bite it) drowning in mayo (I literally scraped off a tablespoon worth but there was still too much inside) and then my chips were raw on the inside. My partners burger bun was so soggy it stuck to the baking paper. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a bad food experience across the board. Atrocious that they’re charging restaurant prices for the worst meal I’ve ever had. The staff seemed overwhelmed and ordering took ages. One bartender was friendly but the other just seemed annoyed. It’s a shame because their drinks are good. So only go for drinks!

Had a wonderful Sunday Roast time with my mates, the outdoor seating is great. The only thing I would complain about is the stinky toilet, you could smell it from the outside.

This place is great. Amazing atmosphere, nice staff, great food and extremely dog friendly. They brought my dog a bowl of water after I sat down. Will definitely return.

Me and my partner had a Monday burger deal yesterday which was great. Really good looking and tasting burger. Served with chips but no salad/coleslaw. Hence the reduced price I guess. Drink inclusive. Not so great value for money if you don't drink alcohol. I have scored three stars for a service due to the waitress being ignorant. She just dropped the plates on the table and ran off, we asked for napkins and cutlery was missing but she didn't want to know.

A great pub with deals throughout the week for food and drink. There are also games you can play (such as Uno or Jenga). The prices are competitive and the staff are friendly. All together it has a nice atmosphere.

Travelled solo for work to Kingston and stayed down the road. Welcoming staff keen to share tasters of the (many) beer options. Nice decor. Good old fashioned pub feel but updated to be a bit contemporary. Lovely beer garden. All in all great. Will stay at the same hotel in future to make this my work local. One thing, please keep playing vinyl, I love it, just sort the skipping records.

Sadly the Sunday lunch has gone down hill, meat portions small and badly cooked

Only had some drinks of which there was a great choice. Food looked and smelled great but didn't eat myself. Visited during a festival across the road and got very busy when it rained - obvs. Staffing didn't plan for it but did a smashing job given the circumstances. 2 pints for like 11.60 so also good value

13 of us booked a table here for Wednesday and food was great. Took some time for some of the meals to get served, however due to the volume of us ordering we understood. Overall, good location & good food!

I attended for my friends birthday. The pub includes a really nice private area at the back of the beer garden so we were able to have our food and drinks served there instead of the main bar. Huge selection of ales and beers.

Nice pub with a variety of seating options. Youngs pubs ranges and food so not one for bargain hunters

Really lovely pub the decor is so cosy and it was very welcoming of me and my mum friends with our babies. Nothing was too much trouble. The pizza is also awesome.

Owner replied to my review asking me to get in touch. I did and didn’t receive the courtesy of a response. Even more disappointing. This could have been a three or four star review: three of the four meals were good (flat iron chicken and burgers nice, flat iron steak was barely warm and chewy). Table was a bit sticky and although the server was friendly and pleasant, service itself wasn’t quick and we saw our food waiting on the pass when they definitely weren’t busy and more staff than customers, drinks arrived after starters. Music choice was a bit odd. So far, a few deductions to the stars. We’d also checked a box when booking confirming this was for a birthday but no acknowledgement. The big minus though is £20.84 service charge on top of a £96.62 bill for food and drink! Yes we knew there was a 12.5% service charge and we used a discount voucher to reduce the overall bill but to add service to bill before discount and still claim it’s 12.5% is dishonest and unacceptable. We wanted to give somewhere different a try but now will be telling anyone who wants to know what a poor choice this restaurant is. Two doors down is Cote Brasserie, better food, better service and priced honestly.

Sadly if you have booked the Christmas meal you'll be very disappointed. Starters Every bruschetta starter was soggy obviously left on the side waiting for other starters to go out or preprepared. The mushroom topping one was served luke warm. Ate it as hungry Mains The pork was disgusting. The skin was was like tough leather with absolutely no crisp. The mash lumpy and the Brussels broke rules that even al dente would question and cold. Everyone who ordered it left 80% of the food on their plates and only 2 people out of 12 chose to eat it. Turkey was OK and veg but potatoes didn't seem freshly roasted Veggie option served in oily pastry filled with squash. Looked unappealing and was uneaten Deserts Sticky toffee pudding was nice and cheese board which obviously didn't need cooking!! Serving staff very pleasant If you have booked for christmas menu I suggest you cancel it none of our party enjoyed it and will never go back for food which is a shame as its local to our office. Most main dish plates had over 70% of the food sent back uneaten
