Just had a beautiful meal with family. I can only say clean plates all round! I can not fault the food here. Never had a bad meal. I also think it is exceptional value. Would always recommend

A spontaneous decision to treat ourselves on this miserable day and we weren't disappointed. We only had mains and drinks this time and the meals were delicious. Kaytie ( I hope that is how I saw it spelt) was delightful and the food promptly served. The T-bone and rib-eye were perfect, the seabass well cooked with crispy skin. The vegan burger was good quality and tasty too.

Went for Christmas dinner. £120 per person so a lot of money. Section we were in not decorated for Christmas. No atmosphere at all, staff were dull and unengaging,, no one wished us a Merry Christmas, Christmas dinner veg was very hard (and I like it crunchy), nothing fancy, just boiled veg, rubbish stuffing, and what were probably frozen roast potatoes. Never again.

Lovely Christmas meal, prompt service, food as good as usual (no deterioration as sometimes happens at Christmas). Like the way tables arranged so groups have privacy and less noise interference from other groups.

Lovely cosy pub, great choice of drinks. Can highly recommend the seafood linguine with chorizo. Great service and staff.

The pork was tough and fatty. The chips soggy. Triple cooked chips? Is that so you can cook them hours before then cook them when ordered because it doesn't work. Horrible!

On a very difficult busy Christmas Eve when things can and will go wrong they coped admirably. Food was out in a slightly sporadic fashion but could easily be forgiven as it was delicious. Set Menu was very good and well worth it. Thanks all for a lovely Christmas Eve

Always excellent food, staff, decor and atmosphere. Do try The Anchor Inn if you have never been before. We enjoyed a fabulously good value Breakfast with Santa meal last Saturday. Staff are just so good. We will also be dining there on Boxing Day and are very much look8ng forward to it.

Rebecca truly shone during our visit,radiating warmth and positivity even when the venue was completely packed. Her bright smiles created a great atmosphere,and she handled every request with grace and enthusiasm. She effortlessly ensured that everyone felt attended to and valued. It's a good restaurant with a lot of locals, and this is my third time coming to this restaurant. I had prawn dishes, steak, lamb, etc. and they were all very delicious. If you can afford it, it's delicious to add scallops and it's very soft. All the staff are friendly too. It's a bit far from Liverpool, but if you get the chance, be sure to visit. Thanks to Pete, Kerry, Nathan and Aaron for their kind guidance. Also, thank you to chefs Johnny, Callum and Luke for the delicious food.

The restaurant provided an ideal setting for a leisurely Sunday lunch, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that captured the festive spirit just before Christmas. Our server, Rebecca, delivered excellent service; she was attentive and made sure our needs were met while offering insightful recommendations that sweetened our afternoon.

Went for santa breakfast with two little ones . Was given one piece toast each ! Also no tea with adult breakfast which found unreal !! Also my cup tea came in bowl ! Other than that ok

I've been here quite a few times and if I fancy a quiet pint in Irby this is the place I would come. It looks small when you drive past but is actually a large pub and restaurant. There always seems to be seating available when we've called in and the seating is very comfortable. Service is always quick and staff are always attentive and helpful. They have a large garden which is nice for a drink outside in the Summer. Parking is fairly good as they have a large car park. Prices are slightly more expensive than other local pubs but you'll always pay a bit more for quality service and surroundings.

As someone who is new to the area and has extensive allergies, eating out is a bit of a nightmare for me. So finding somewhere like The Anchor who were incredibly accommodating, was very much appreciated. I found it to be a very warm, homely feeling old style style building. It was very clean and the staff were very friendly. Kerry, Amy & Dave looked after us for lunch today. Kerry was lovely. Every question I had about the food, or querying ingredients, it felt like it was no bother and everything was checked for me. Full credit to Dave the chef - as someone who mainly eats fish with plain accompaniments, it was possibly one of the nicest pieces of sea bass I have had in the UK. Crispy skin, flaky flesh - delicious. My friend had the chicken & cheese pie and said it was extremely tasty. Rarely do I get to enjoy a dessert anymore, but I was able to have the mini pud of fresh fruit with coconut sorbet. Again, small, lovely little portion and the sorbet was incredibly rich and creamy. Kerry once again was on the ball, and brought out the ingredients for me to check. Right up until I left the table, Kerry went above and beyond. My friend had the lemon tart. Lovely afternoon. Lovely setting. Fantastic service. Don't know when, but I'll be back. Thank you for this afternoon! Would recommend

Lovely food well presented and good wine selection

We were staying locally on a long weekend joint to see family and a show in Liverpool, We ate on Saturday evening and had a booking for Sunday lunch. On neither occasion did I feel we had value for money or a tasty, lovely meal on Saturday I had the slow cooked belly pork. I got the impression that this was reheated in a microwave to a "burn your lips" heat whereas the vegetable were lukewarm. The crackling was a rectangular piece of thin pork skin more like formica than proper crackling. Sunday lunch was roast beef, I thought the beef was passable but not great, the roast potatoes looked and tasted like they'd been saved from the previous Sunday and the yorkshire pudding wasn't an attractive piece of kit, but a brownish grey space ship which I suspect came from a catering pack. My overall impression was that the kitchen was not staffed by a proper chef by but by someone who had been taught the process of how to work a microwave and lay out the food to look like haut cuisine but they sadly didn't fool me. You don't have to be a food critic to know when you're being served home cooked food and when the food is done from kitchen suppliers. If you want decent home cooked food I'd look elsewhere. On a plus point the decoration and presentation of the pub and it's toilets were excellent but but food wise it's disappointing.

Sadly, the food didn't live up to the service or the decor. Definitely not one to visit again,unless burnt pastry, inedible roast potatoes, and tiny portion of vegetables is high on your gastro pub crawl list .

I am very sad to have to write this review. We had our wedding reception here 13 years ago today and went back to celebrate our anniversary today. The mushroom starter we both had was chewy and rubbery. My husband had the beef pie which was full of fat and grizzle ( in fairness they removed the charge for this from the bill ). I had a burger and never have I had such a tasteless burger anywhere before. Our anniversary meal was a disaster and unfortunately we will not be returning.

The most perfect food and service! We were served by Becky and she was amazing :) We will definitely be coming back very soon, and would definitely recommend.

The starter, prawns was not clean and devein . The server, served the main and never looked back, the sea bass was so salty , I ate the inside and left the outer skin.I needed another mocktail to wash the salty meal down but no server in sight. So we decided to skip the dessert or drink ( our may not have been around to get the order anyway) and just pay the bill. I husband went up to the counter and paid there and we left.

Soup was interesting but portion quite meagre on a shallow dish so it quickly lost heat. Tempura Prawn sandwich was quite pleasant but I would have preferred salad separate on plate instead of in sandwich. A quite modest portion of prawns too. Small portion option for some mains would be appreciated. Very pleasant clean room with a warm atmosphere. Good personable service. Thank you

I ordered gammon steak from the lunch menu and it was cooked perfect along with rest of the accompianants and my comments were passed on to the chef

Absolutely delicious meal. Served hot and very tasty. Goats cheese whisky tatin, pork belly with scallops and crème brûlée so tasty and the vegan option of butternut squash soup and the mushroom risotto the tastiest I’ve ever had. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Nice coffee too 👍👍👍. Compliments to the servers and the chef. Definitely recommend!!

Nice pub with log fires burning and cosy layout but the staff weren't very attentive and service definitely wasn't with a smile. My food was ok (belly pork roast), but my fiancée's beef was nice. The roast potatoes were tough and had probably been left standing for a long time. Not good enough for the money unfortunately (£20 plus for a roast) so we won't be returning in a hurry.

We are frequent visitors to The Anchor, and never had any issues with the food or the service. Last night, we were seated immediately after our arrival. We didn't have to wait at all to be greeted. There wasn't any fillet steak or burgers, which are usually my go-to dishes. However, the chicken burger was superb. The service was fast; our drinks arrived within a few minutes of us ordering them, and we didn't have to wait long for the food. The restaurant area always looks pristine, beautifully decorated, with the tables laid ready for guests. We have never had to look at dirty tables after diners vacate as the staff are quick to clear them. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and we are more than happy to book again.

Nice place, friendly staff and nice food

We had a lovely meal but it was spoilt by the rude attitude of the bar person. I was accused of not paying my bill when getting into my vehicle when I had as already paid it half an hour earlier which caused much humiliation. It turned out that I was given the wrong bill for another table. The wrong bill was refunded and then the new bill had extras that we had not ordered. When correcting the bill the bar tender treated us awful even though it was their mistake. After a lovely meal celebrating my nephew's engagement I left feeling upset and disappointed.

We stayed here in our motorhome for 2 nights using the Anchor on both days, the food was excellent,the service was attentive but not intrusive. The pub is Very dog friendly and is child friendly. If we go to Liverpool again we will return

Absolutely wonderful meal tonight. Everything was delicious and piping hot, will definitely be back again soon. We had the steak and malbec pie, fish and chips and the belly pork and scallops, would highly recommend all of these.

First time ar the Anchor Inn. Lovely place outside and in. 3 of us had a different choice of Sunday lunch. All served in good time by polite and friendly staff. Meals were plentiful, hot and delicious, and extra gravy was provided. I would definitely eat here again, highly recommended

Came here last night (31st August) for an anniversary meal and couldn't fault anything. We started off by having a proscecco outside, then went inside and shown to our table then the waiter took our drinks order and told us the the drinks we had outside were on the house as it was our anniversary, what a great touch. I had the white crab on sourdough and my wife had the salt and pepper squid. Next we had the Chateaubriand steak to share which was cooked to perfection, even the chips were delicious as well, we chose peppercorn and bearnaise sources which again were perfect. and to finish off we both had a mini desert and cocktail, ie minivalrhona chocolate brownie with an expresso martini, and yet again faultless. my only problem was that I was too full to try anything else. All of this was delivered by a great service. you'd be mad not to try it. Looked at some reviews before going and a couple thought it was a bit pricey, and no it's not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for and we can't wait to return. Wish I could have given it 10 stars!!!!

Rebecca our waitress, went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. And a big thanks to Chef nick and Chef luke for preparing our meals with such care and attention to detail.

Just been to the Anchor with friends and we were all disappointed with the tiny portion sizes of our meals. Two of us had the prawn linguine and one of us had the celeriac steak. Our pasta meals were similar to the starter size you get in Gusto. And my friend's cleriac steak was so small when it arrived that she had to ask for a side portion of potatoes to make it more of a meal. For the first time ever in our dining experiences, we all ordered the cheese board for dessert because we were still hungry! We did mention our disappointment to the waitress, but I think she was too inexperienced to know how to react. The pasta was £17.50, and I would be happy to pay that if I felt I was getting my money's worth! But you don't get your money's worth at the Anchor!

Had a great meal with family. The food was excellent as was the service. Minor mishap mid meal when there was a little water dripping from the ceiling. Holly and Emily got us quickly moved and all was well.

I had let the Anchor know that my husband and I were attending for our anniversary. We were given a lovely table and a complementary drink from the manager when we arrived. The quality of the food was superb as was the wine and service. It really made it an extra special occasion. Thank you to everyone at The Anchor for making it an evening we will always remember.

Fantastic gastropub style venue. Super atmosphere and attentive staff. Food and drink on the more expensive side but worth every penny once you taste it. Varied menu and sensible portion sizes.

Food was excellent, best roast pork belly I’ve had in a long time and the kids said theirs was delicious (clean plates all round). Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Our waitress Emily was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we sat down, her warm and friendly demeanour made us feel right at home. She was attentive without being overbearing, always there at the perfect moment to refill drinks or check on our meal. Emily's knowledge of the menu was impressive—she offered great recommendations that were spot on. What really stood out was her genuine care and attention to detail, making sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend! Five stars all the way!

Was disappointed in this place today even though I had a vegetarian roast just vegetables which was very nice My friend who I was with me is a vegan ,didn’t have a great choice at all .. what she chose was okay but the price of it was disgusting and then on top of that we had service charge of 20% which I think should be a personal choice not just slap on which took our meal to £70 just for two small meals had 2 glasses of wine each ..and two desserts and 20% Was service charge so I will not be returning my friend bought my meal as a birthday treat .. and didn’t enjoy her food she felt totally cheated being a vegan and having to pay well over for her meal which consisted of a few vegetables.. everything was totally overcharged except for the roast and as I say that was just vegetables with gravy , asked for more roast potatoes as I was only having Yorkshire pudding and some vegetables on the side. When I got the meaI only had three small roast!! Had to ask and say I order more as had no main on plate . totally overpriced .. totally ashamed that I had brought my friend there to buy me a meal.. very unhappy !!!!!! And we sat outside just think £70 is a lot for a meal when it’s just a casual thing.. and also with the roast I would’ve thought they would’ve put extra vegetables on because I wasn’t having any thing else but vegetables and roast potatoes.. very very very expensive overpriced 20% should be by choice not by force..

Called in with my husband on Sunday, we didn’t have a reservation but they still sorted a table for us. Food was serviced quickly and it was delicious. The pub was nice and warm too and busy so had a nice atmosphere, All staff were great and our waitress Rebecca was attentive and friendly. Will be going again!

We had a lovely lunch here today. Food was fantastic quality and staff really welcoming and helpful. The lunch menu is great value and I like that they have smaller dessert options available. Very well furnished and relaxing atmosphere. We were not rushed to place our order or for the table to be turned over quickly. We were able to relax with a drink first and courses were not rushed out onto the table. There's not many places we will stay for desserts/hot drinks afterwards but here we felt more than comfortable to spend the afternoon.

The bar tender Cameron was exceptional throughout the evening who personally served us throughout the night catering for all our needs. The rest of the floor staff regularly came over to check on our food throughout the night and made us feel so comfortable and well-looked after throughout. The food was also cooked and displayed to perfection. Definitely a must visit. will be coming again soon.
