My family of 11 had a wonderful afternoon get together here. The food and service was excellent. We would recommend it and will definitely be returning. Thank you to all the staff x

Disappointing Experience - Boxing Day meal I’m writing to express my disappointment following our visit this afternoon. We’ve been regular patrons at your restaurant and have always enjoyed great experiences, but today was unfortunately not up to the usual standard. When we arrived for our family meal of 8, we were disappointed to find there were no pigs in blankets available, despite it being only 3pm. When we asked the waitress about this, she simply replied, “It’s Christmas.” We also inquired about cauliflower, only to be told it was unavailable because “it’s too expensive.” To make matters worse, the food that was served to us was lukewarm. The potatoes appeared to have been frozen or reheated, and the vegetables were similarly disappointing. Overall, the meal was underwhelming, and certainly not the quality we’ve come to expect. Additionally, we experienced long waits for both food and drinks. While I understand it’s a busy time of year, the staff appeared unorganised, which made the whole experience feel frustrating and disjointed. Given our past positive experiences, today’s visit was particularly disheartening. I hope you’ll take this feedback into consideration to improve both the food and service moving forward.

My first visit. Just about the best gastro pub I've been to in years and ticks all my boxes: ambience, acoustics, lighting, service, and the food was superb. The only thing average about the place was the prices. I shall return.

Pleasant place to meet family. Staff were good and friendly. Food was presented well and plenty. Beer selection was good. Would go again

First time attending tonight and definitely won't be the last. Beautiful decor, relaxing atmosphere even though it was busy and staff were really attentive and friendly. At first glance, I thought prices were a bit steep, at almost £30 for an 8oz steak but upon tasting the food, I really didn't care anymore, it was all delicious and well worth the money. There wasn't a single complaint at our table of four and even though our stomachs were full from the generous mains, we still managed to squeeze in the most tantalising apple and pear crumble for dessert. 10/10 will be recommending. P.s. my partner said they do a good Guinness 👌

Fantastic pub food! We all had roasts and they were all delicious and the gravy was so good! Great atmosphere, great service and a beautiful pub with plenty of space but still gives a great cosy feel. Highly recommend!

Excellent cuisine ,worth the hour wait

Overall a pleasant enough evening but nothing special and certainly not worth the money. The Sunday roast comes smothered in a salty granule tasting gravy which ruined the meal for most of us. That said, the staff were all very polite and helpful.

The Fox and Hounds is one of the nicest pub/restaurants in Wirral. Great food, beautiful building with lots of history, great friendly service, with a lovely atmosphere and ambiance. A must place to visit.

Went for a roast dinner after a lovely meal a few weeks ago. The gravy was delicious, meat beautifully cooked, and even the veg was tasty. Potatoes large. Cask ale kept and served well. The star of the show was Suzy however, who went out of her way to make our experience even more enjoyable. A very warm welcome! Thank you Suzy and all of the team, we will be back soon!

This was my second visit to the Fox and Hounds. The first was last year, I can honestly say that the standard this time was the same 5* experience I had last year. The staff were attentive but not in your face, the food, our party of 3 all had beef roast dinner, the beef was 'proper' beef and delicious. The way you would roast it at home and plenty of thick gravy, just like us northerners like lt. I'm not going to leave it 12 months again. The Fox and Hounds will be my go-to place when I visit the Wirral.

Had a bad experience here a few years ago but tried again tonight after a good few recommendations. My opinions could not have changed more. The atmosphere was on point, lively yet comfortable. Bar staff were extremely helpful. The food was great - beautifully presented, hot, and fresh. One of the best fish pies, and all reasonably priced. The highlight of our visit was our friendly waitress with whom we had a lovely chat and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be back - well done to all the staff.

Had an excellent Sunday Lunch here in July and returned for a midweek dinner a couple of weeks ago. Found the menu overpriced, although cooked and served well - that is, apart from the strange Steak and Ale Pie that appeared. This disappointingly consisted of a deep mince and vegetable filling in a shortcrust pastry with an off-putting texture, so be warned it's not your typical steak pie. Nice little pub, but if you book a seat in the conservatory, make sure it's not by the door. Our young waiter was very nice and I would still recommend the Sunday Lunch.

Went for Sunday roast last week, everything was amazing! Service was friendly and nothing was an issue which is what you want! Food was the best, can’t beat a Fox and Hound roast dinner! Definitely be back and recommend to everyone!

This is the best mix of eatery and traditional pub, the balance is perfect. Real ale, good selection of wines and spirits. Stevie the barman on duty the day I visited was a ray of sunshine on a rainy day. He also spoiled my dog with water and biscuits. The food exceeded expectations, I had the steak pie which was very tasty and the portion size was generous, I had to take home a dogg bag. The staff were very helpful , attentive and smiley.

My first choice of pub on the Wirral. The staff are all extremely helpful and friendly and always offer a great service. Food is always amazing and you can’t beat a roast dinner here on a Sunday.

Good food and beer in a well cared for pleasant environment. This was not our first visit and certainly won't be the last!

Usually I would give 5* across the board for the Fox and Hounds but my last visit was wasn't perfect. I'll start with the live singer, lovely voice but we couldn't hear ourselves think let alone speak so conversation came to a standstill. Service was poor, I had to go and find staff so I could order puddings and when that came our main meal dishes were still on the table. Food was lovely even tho I ordered trout but got Salmon, it's my fave fish so didn't complain and the Cheesecake was gorgeous. We must have caught them on a bad night.

Visited again with friends and had a very enjoyable evening. Busy and slightly noisy, my problem not theirs, welcoming venue with character, good food and wines . Friendly and attentive staff , will return in near future.

The food is consistently excellent! Full of flavour and just delicious. Sunday lunch Portions are quite generous. A quality pub in a lovely area.

I had the roast chicken Sunday dinner, my wife had the belly pork, and my mother in law had the beef. The food was very good and tasty,the staff were excellent and friendly,definitely go back again

Nice veggie Wellington but only a single portion of broccoli to go with it. Even a few peas would have been nice or a couple of carrots. I mean not as if they are expensive or anything. Plate looked very bare

Absolutely best roast dinner. I'd given up finding a roast with proper gravy, lean meat, crispy spuds and the best Yorkshire puds ever! but I found it. It's not cheap but if you want the best and not a ding bisto dinner then go here.

Waiting on staff were lovely but the time it took for meals to be served was too long. Very poor vegetarian selection. Only one vegetarian meal on the main evening menu, and that was a salad.

We visit here regularly, it's a favourite. Never had a bad meal, and the service is always excellent. Dog friendly.

Great experience at the fox and hounds, lovely atmosphere and food, we had small plates to share and was happy with the quality and portions. Would definitely visit again.

Been told the place is lovely by friends and we went with my other halfs family. It was very good. We were all impressed with the place, plenty of parking and the food you can tell it is home made. We all went for the roast dinner and enjoyed it alot. Gravy was nice and rich, the vegetables were served on the side so plate didn't look over full. We were gutted we was not told they ran out and never got cauliflour cheese like it states on the menu but food was good that we was not that fussed. The staff were very friendly and helpful with our requests. Good atmosphere and we will be returning very soon. Thank you :)

Best steak I've ever had. The onion rings with peppercorn sauce were an unexpected hero of the plate. The garlic butter mushrooms also stole the show. Absolutely fantastic food, atmosphere was refined and beautiful, and the staff were friendly. Bit expensive but you're paying for top quality here, so it's not a problem.

I'd wanted to try the Sunday Roast for a while so today was the day. We had booked a table and had a lovely welcome from our server (think it was George?) We both ordered the roast beef, which arrived with tasty roasties, a huge Yorkshire pudding and lots of gorgeous gravy. I was slightly disappointed with the smallish bowl of vegetables for us to share as we'd normally polish off that amount each... The vegetables were carrot & swede, broccoli & cabbage. That said, we really enjoyed our meal and I then chose the rum & raisin ice cream for dessert, which was creamy and delicious. A lovely pub with attractive decor and pleasant staff. Definitely worth a revisit!

Great gastro pub and definitely a favourite venue. Food is lovely and atmosphere is very friendly. Always busy but never feels crammed in. Outdoor tables available undercover.

Came with family to celebrate our Sons graduation. We were greeted by a very friendly staff member who showed us to our seat and took our drink requests. Loved the table and the view onto a small court yard area. The interior decorations are beautiful and the room we sat in was light and airy. We ordered after about 10mins and were really looking forward to our food. However we had to wait an hour for our main course which was a bit excessive, but looking around the room this seemed the norm as nobody else had received food in that time . After a very long day this did dampen our spirits slightly. However when the food did eventually turn up it was delicious but due to the timings we only had the mains and left. Hopefully this is not the norm as we did enjoy the restaurant and food when it turned up!

The food here was amazing. I had the steak and ale pie and it was jam packed with meat. Staff super friendly and helpful and the prices are more than fair for what you get.

First time here won’t be the last went with friends all had different starters and mains big portions all very tasty service was lovely very friendly will be returning soon

Why are dogs allowed on seats in the lounge bar area? Not very hygienic. What next ?won't eat here again!

This is a beautiful pub, with great seating outside, we were lucky to be here on a sunny day and sit outside. Service was very promt with polite staff.

Just visited with family who travelled from across the country. There were 11 of us and we were seated in an excellent location with a dog included. The staff were brilliant and everyone in the group was impressed with both the welcome and attention of the staff and the superb food on offer. We ordered a good selection from the menu with a great range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as well. Superb and fantastic we will be back soon.

Great food, service and atmosphere. Would’ve been 5 stars - but looking at our bill afterwards they had charged me for a dish that was sent back which was not ordered. A bit disappointing, with a table of 12 people was not the cheapest. We did have a great time though.

Great little pub this and the food was delicious. Hopefully we'll be passing again soon but if not we'll have to make a special trip.

Our server was lovely, very helpful, and checked on us regularly even though they were busy. We didn't wait long for our starters, soup was delicious & the freshly baked bread was lovely. Garlic bread was like a small loaf of bread, very yummy. Main meals were amazing, burger, chunky chips, freshly made onion rings & creamy coleslaw, delicious. Fish, chips & mushy peas were great. Big portions, so we did not have dessert, but they did look appetising. Would highly recommend visiting this place, always busy so book before going.

It was a busy Sunday, we hadn't booked but it was no problem at all, staff were friendly and very accommodating so we were squeezed in on a 1 hour slot. We ordered 3 different roasts, all delicious. We will definitely return again 🙂👍.

Came for grandma's birthday meal, arrived at 6:30. Starters didn't arrive until 7:20, and we only spoke to the serving staff member as a result of her serving a table next to us that came in after us. Food came shortly after and was cold. The main then came 30 minutes after the plates were taken from the starter. Shame really because after we asked about our food, the serving staff were very abrupt and seemed annoyed we had asked.

A wonderful place to dine or just pop in for a drink. Very friendly staff, lovely surroundings and plenty of choice. A really nice outside area, a great little bar and seating area at the back, or a wonderful conservatory for dining, this place has it all. Great menu and nice to see that they support local breweries also, as well as a good selection of beers, wine, rum and whisky!

We met my disabled cousin for lunch as the facilities are fine for him. Our meals were excellent, service efficient and welcoming. Well done 👏

Really sorry to say this have been going to this pub for many years have'nt been for a while was shocked to be charged £13.05p for one double vodka coke and one pint of trappers hat sorry wont be going back anymore

The pub itself was warm and welcoming, with a nice atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I could see it being a really nice local to have a drink at. The food itself was quite dissapointing, especially for the price which was quite steep for the quality. We had a selection of courses, some of which were a lot better than others. The roasts were recommended; the soups and cheese selection were also nice, with a good variety; the pie and gravy was very dense and salty which we wouldn't have again.

Food was amazing, very tastey and fresh. The service was great, the waiting staff were very friendly. Definitely one to come back to.

Went for late lunch, the menu and food were excellent, service was good. A little niggle with the table for two being somewhat crammed in the corner, this would have been OK and understandable if all other tables were in use, but they were not.

Excellent food, the quality is amazing. A very quaint pub. Always busy and very popular. Table service is very good. Large car park, with two accessible car spaces. A bit tight inside if you need good access though. Worth a visit for the food alone.

This is an excellent pub and restaurant. I'm pleased to say that it still retains the old, traditional bar room as well as a smart restaurant. The food is well presented and really delicious and the portions generous. Yes, you can find cheaper eateries but you're unlikely to find better value. Service is spot on as well. Overall, I can't fault it. Highly recommended.
