Great pub for vegan pub grubm very reasonable priced, even cheaper if you take food to donate to their foodbank collections. Fried offerings, and vegan burgers. Polenta fries are great, as is Mac cheese, oh ok and the vegan fish burger with kim chi

I had been really looking forward to visiting this place, however I was quite disappointed with the food. My tofish burger was so bland, as was my friends burger. We did share some cheese sticks which were so so good, I will be back for the cheese sticks and to support a vegan pub, however I would love it if they look in to some more flavoursome options for mains!

Esta fue mi primera vez en un restaurante vegano, y me dejó con grandes expectativas de seguir adelante. Me encantó la hamburguesa, y mi amigo consiguió el mac y el queso que sabía exactamente como el queso real. Los tamaños de las porciones son bastante grandes y tienen una gran selección de bebidas, el personal es muy amable también. Recomendaría este restaurante a cualquiera, incluso los omnívoros más fieles quedarán impresionados.

I’ve heard good things but I’m always dubious. I brought my dad, grandad and partner and we LOVED the food. My grandad eats war food, beef stews, chicken and carbs, he tried everything and liked it! We tried everything but the tofu and rice and we really loved it. The grilled cheese and chorizo was insane, the mac was tasty, we loved the moz sticks and fries and the kimchi balls were our favourite! Food was nice and hot and fresh. Service was not the best but it looked like it had been a busy morning!

I was really looking forward to visiting here after hearing so much about it on Instagram, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. My friends and I had the tofish burger and the chorizo burger and they were both so dry and tasteless - I ended up using a lot of salt and mayonnaise to try and add some flavour! Also my friends food arrived so late by the time it had arrived we had all finished ours!

I went here with my boyfriend for a few drinks and dinner before the cinema on Saturday night. It’s perfectly located near Angel station in a quiet, cool part of Islington. There was a relaxed atmosphere that was just bustling enough, and the staff were so nice. This is a vegan pub, which was great as we knew we could get any drink we wanted without having to get our phones out to check ingredients. There’s a good range of vegan burgers on the menu, along with cheesy polenta chips (delicious) and mozzarella sticks. All vegan! We had the hot seitan burgers and polenta chips and they were really great. Quick, friendly service and good portion sizes. A great place to come with a group of pals for a relaxing drink and food. Loved it!

Came into the pub and immediately made to feel uncomfortable as two old/middle aged men tried to chat me and my cousin up (were in our early 20's) lol. But understood that this isn't the pub's fault, so didn't think much of it. The vibe was weird, and it cost £7 for a large glass of house white which is quite extortionate. we ordered at the bar, i ordered green mac and cheese and my cousin ordered the seitan burger, we were so excited because we'd heard nothing but good things about this place. Our food came up, the burger was maybe the driest thing i've ever seen in my life. They had ran out of burger buns so it came up in bread (?). No sauce, no veg, no salad, literally the worst burger i've ever seen pahahaa. I normally find vegan restaurants go over and above to make their food look and taste great, this wasn't the case here. The mac and cheese, was literally just shop bought pesto and violife with macaroni, although the portion size was good and it tasted fine. Nothing special though. To be constructive, I think it would be worthwhile re-visiting your burger and adding SOMETHING to it to stop it being so dry and boring. The person serving behind the bar was really nice, and she had said it had been a weird shift so maybe they were just having a bad day. But I'm afraid I wont be re-visiting.

We stopped here for a quick lunch as we were exploring the local area. The menu is not extensive but is all vegan. We had an Indian Potato Burger each, with fries and salad. The burger was tasty, fries were good, but the salad consisted of a mound of lettuce. Shame. The meal would have benefitted from some tomatoes or something, as the burger was quite dry without. Having said this, the staff were friendly, the pub was very accessible and simple and we could probably have stayed for several hours without being hassled, had we wanted to.

I first saw this place while walking past on my way somewhere else and was intrigued by the name, so I looked it up later. When I read that it served vegan food I decided to give it a try, so next time I was nearby I went there for lunch. They had a decent selection of beer - real ales and craft beers, and a menu with a few options. Some people might find the menu too limited, but it made sense to me. Concentrate on a few things instead if trying to do it all. I ordered an aloo tikka burger and fries. It arrived quite promptly, and was well cooked and presented. The staff were pleasant and effective.The ambience was casual, laid back and comfortable. Clientelle ranged from older couples having lunch to younger groups calling in for a drink. I'd definitely go back!

The vegan food here is great and like proper pub grub (burgers and chips and other fried delights!) The staff could work on their people skills a bit but luckily the food made up for that!

I was waiting for months for my travel to come so I could go there.. very disappointed. The staffs were rude to me and I waited for 20 minutes and nothing. I left without even being able to eat. I don’t understand the hype about this place.

Great to have a fully vegan pub, staff friendly and the service was fast, which was good for a lunch break.

I went with a group, only one of which was a vegan and everyone LOVED the food, in particular the Mac and cheese, polenta fries and 'mozzarella' sticks - although it was all great. Most of the group were from London but hadn't been before, however they all commented on how nice the space was inside. The pub has outdoor seating space and it was lovely to sit in the sun and enjoy a drink. Finally the service was brilliant, everyone was super friendly and helpful. Plus I can't help but feel like Stella (the pub dog that made an appearance) will become a local celeb - she's gorgeous.

Otra maravillosa pub vegetariano! Realmente no sé por qué esto no ha tenido tanta atención como la propagación Eagle, ya que es tan bueno! El menú tenía tan buena que no sé por dónde empezar, y acabé compartiendo el mac y queso y el bocadillo de chorizo. Ambos eran excelentes.

No puedo decir suficientes cosas buenas. El menú es sencillo pero tentadoras, la selección de vinos y gin excelente (cervezas para examinar el descuidado), servicio amable y eficiente, gran espacio (simple, fácil, limpio). Y los precios son bastante razonables. Me encantó y volvería de nuevo.

My first time here and what a treat, the wonderful staff with special thx to Hanna and her coworker for the amazing welcome. Great to discover this special vegan space, the fact that not one person was glued to a smart phone in a busy bar stood out big time to me as everyone was chilling out and conversing or busy in a productive mood, working on a laptop.. I was introduced to the gastronomic treats of the Mozzarella Sticks as a non vegan who’d given up most scary dairy they were like manner from heaven totally out of this know universe and and any other in sure .. I’ll be returning soon with a new worshiper or two at the “Blacksmith and Vegan Maker alter”

Viajamos a Londres para este lugar y ojalá nos había dejado en otro lugar a lo largo del camino. Las patatas fritas eran geniales, pero que polenta. La hamburguesa era correoso y sin sabor. El restaurante en sí estaba muy sucio y los baños eran lo peor que habíamos visto en Londres. Normalmente nunca me den una mala crítica, pero este lugar era realmente horrible.

What a find. This is heaven. Two of us went for lunch. I had the chorizo, jalapeño and refried bean grilled sandwich (with the best fries I have ever had anywhere), and my mate had the Nashville Hot Seitan Burger. We sat outside in the short-lived Spring sunshine, and had a couple of pints of the IPA. Perfect. And very friendly staff. Will be back.

This is one of the best vegan menus I've seen. It's so lovely to find somewhere that does delicious vegan 'junk' food. I had the chorizo and cheese toastie with polenta chips and I honestly believe it's tastes like the real deal (if not better). Came here on a Friday night with some friends, absolutely brilliant food. Between us, we ordered the spicy seitan burger, the halloumi kimchi burger, the potato tikka burger, the chorizo mac n cheese sandwich, polenta chips and mozzarella sticks. UNREAL. I'd urge you to book, it gets really busy!

Went with my vegan friend to try out their new vegan menu. I’m not a vegan myself but the food was pretty damn good! Their substitute chicken burger seemed like the real thing. Friendly staff, busy place and buzzing atmosphere. What made it even better is that they offer student discount... I’ll be back

Decided to try this place after reading about their all vegan menu and sustainability. Was not disappointed! Had the Aloo burger with polenta fries and it was really well done. Would definitely go back there. Pub had a nice vibe, bit cold inside but I guess that’s cos it’s winter and near ish the door!

Lovely staff and the food (all vegan!) was out of this world. Will definitely be regulars visiting - along with our beagle, who was made to feel very welcome. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up for their efforts in sustainability and encouragement of donations for the local food bank. This place rocks!

We came across the Blacksmith and Toffeemaker after researching pubs for wedding receptions in the Angel area. All of the reviews said how marvelous it was, and they were not wrong.

Esta es una joya de un pub. Ambiente agradable, buena zona exterior de agua potable. El personal siempre optimista y la comida es buena, no la comida falsa pub uptown. Te dan descuentos para estudiantes. Un lugar encantador para encontrarse, conversar y comer.

Llevan a cabo muchas fiestas privadas en el pub y fue una gran decisión. La comida es fantástica hasta el punto de que mantener comiendo incluso cuando estás completo porque es muy bueno.

Patatas fritas buen servicio mono, poco concurrido porque había reservas, pero aún así muy atentos a los clientes individuales. El suero de pollo frito hamburguesa era mugrosa maquina increíble y no creo que he comido mejor.

Great place to go for a fatty hamburger with friends. Great beers and decent wine! Unfortunately, they have no healthy alternatives whatsoever. If you go there, you have to accept the fat! :D

Recommended by work. Group of 10 of us. Booked and ordered food in advance. Nice enough place, decent crowd and atmosphere. But didn't get the drinks order right. Nor the food. And what made it even worse was the poor way it was all handled. Not a good experience

We had our wedding reception here and it was perfect. The pub is large and spacious with loads of character. The landlord Sam was so communicative, flexible and helpful throughout. They made amazing salads to our recipe and the mac and cheese was the smash hit of the whole night. Staff were friendly and professional and made sure our guests had a fun night. Highly recommend!

We had our wedding reception at the Blacksmith and The Toffeemaker. Of course we would say it's amazing because it was our wedding day! But it really was fabulous - we booked the pub exclusively; Sam, the manager, was a dream to liaise with throughout the process, we dropped off our decorations for the pub to put up the morning of the wedding and the food was amazing. It was completely relaxing and stress-free and really recommend the pub if you're looking for the same for your wedding day.p.s. the loos have had a makeover!

My close friend booked out the place for his 50th and it was FANTASTIC. It was a warm night so luckily there is a large outside area where most people congregated at the beginning of the evening. The barmen/ladies were efficient and friendly and the booze flowed all night. We were locked inside the pub after 11pm (closing time) and the party raged on inside. We danced until after 3pm and I'd definitely recommend this for any party. What an epic evening. They also serve food if anyone wants to eat.

Our original venue fell through with three weeks to go for our wedding in August. Sam and his team stepped in and couldn't have been any more helpful. It was a great room for a relaxed reception. The staff decorated it amazingly and we could play our own music. Nothing was too much trouble. We couldn't recommend the pub highly enough. They certainly helped us have a perfect day.

The bar lacks atmosphere. Drinks expensive and the staff seem preoccupied and don't rush to serve. The toilets are disgusting one toilet someone had thrown a toilet roll in and the other toilet well the less said the better....... I suggest that the staff need to wake up and someone really should be checking the toilets regularly. Will I visit again definitely not.

I first visited for a crafting workshop in the backroom, which is available for hire and, so pretty, I've booked it for my wedding! Staff are super chilled, pub's very spacious and when we visited again we found, luckily, that the food is really great - the chef knows his stuff and is very inventive. Still dreaming about the mac and cheese!Loos are a bit grim, but it's a pub so it's not the end of the world.

We had a leaving party here and it was overall a great place. The music was fantastic that night, each song was better than the last!I was disappointed they served their food on crappy red plastic baskets, but over all it was really decent. The Guinness was also really good, which doesn't always happen to places that serve it :) I've said in my other reviews how off putting it is when bartenders are drunk and this place was no exception. Again, maybe its the culture and I'm not used to it yet but when your bartender can't explain what the "Gin of the Week" is because "the manager wrote it" - I think its time to tone it down.

This pub seemed nice to me until I had the misfortune of visiting the ladies' which are absolutely filthy. The thick black grime in every crack and corner looks years old. The cubicle I was in didn't even have a loo roll holder, let alone any paper. The list on the wall would indicate they were last checked in 2014, which seems accurate. To be clear, this isn't a dive bar. Unacceptable and definitely would go back - and I see other reviews have been mentioning the same thing for a long time.

Reserved a table here for birthday drinks and food - it gets really busy on Friday nights but has a good atmosphere. I found them really accommodating: my email about reserving a table was answered quickly and they held more than enough space for the 15 of us. The food is decent pub fare (burgers, chips, mac n cheese) at a fairly reasonable price, nothing too special, and there's a good variety of drinks. Crucially, the music wasn't deafening so we could all hear each other, which for a Friday night near Angel is pretty incredible.... Staff seemed pleasant enough. Toilets were not good, cramped and smelly but no worse than many London pubs. Overall this is a decent pub for having a few drinks and a bite to eat with a nice vibe. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but for a Friday beer and burger it really hit the spot.

Disappointingly underwhelmed by the attitude of the staff in this pub and also the food was disappointing. I was told when I booked my baby shower that evening events on a Sunday are accommodated past the advertised closing period. However, I was then told on the day that the pub would be closing at 7pm. Very bad attitude from one member of staff being personally aggressive towards me. Food was equally as disappointing - fried chicken was undercooked in places, not great for me as I am heavily pregnant. I don't appreciate the response to my friend's review above either - not really acceptable to tell us not to come back. Very poor. We spent a lot of money in a pub that was otherwise completely empty. Very sad as this is a nice looking pub with a good back room. Could have been a lot better. I don't ever usually write reviews, but the attitude of the member of staff was really the straw that broke the camel's back. I suggest you provide your staff with some customer service training.

We booked the back room on a Sunday for my friends baby shower having been to events friends have held there before. We weren't advised until we arrived that the venue shuts at 6pm on a Sunday (WTAF) the staff were rude to a heavily pregnant lady when she queried this.They were clearly hungover and had basically wanted us out as we 'didn't spend enough'. Had we been told we'd have booked somewhere else, people didn't arrive until after 2pm so it was pretty rubbish to be told at 5pm they wanted last orders.Thanks for spoiling a perfectly lovely day and upsetting a pregnant woman.....you're a delightful bunch, please don't book an event there if you want to feel welcome!!!!!

The pub has a general tired feel. I really did not recognise the pub from the previous reviews. Beer was "okay", but as a beer drinker I obviously know that not all will be to my taste. Food choice very limited, and can only be described as pub grub.The two most outstanding features:All the staff I encountered were very polite and pleasantThe toilets are a disgrace!! especially, so I am reliably informed, the ladies.

Whether it be for a quiet pint or a meal out the blacksmith never fails to deliver. Friendly staff and an ambience that just oozes this is what we do and we do it well with no snobbery. Well done guys keep up the good work

Decent little pub, just down the road from Angel. Kronenbourg on tap too which is always a gooden! Didn't try food so cannot comment.

During a very busy week in London, we tried to see as many different places as we could. On our journeys into the City we noticed this place as we passed by on the bus and it looked so good we just had to visit. Sadly, we only had time for a pre-dinner drink, but it was well worth the trip to be there. It's great inside; plenty of room to lounge around and chat. On nice evenings we often used to see people standing outside as well,; there's a very broad pavement outside. I think it may be in Islington. It used to be called "The Queen Boadicea " which some people might remember. We had a lovely drink of wine and it was a good visit. Everyone was so friendly and the staff very pleasant indeed. It does tend to be a younger person's place, but we two (both retired) did not feel out of place at all.

Very pleasantly surprised. Very nice pub grub and some delicious ales. Certainly assisted by the regular clientele of beautiful young things from the University round the corner
