The Bombay Brasserie in Kensington and Chelsea

I had a good meal close to my hotel. The restaurant gives free little poppadoms. I was surprised when it was time to pay. I asked to add a tip to my credit card payment, and the waiter said you can’t. I was then going to give a cash tip but saw the receipt said ‘we operate a no tip policy’. I asked the manager what that means. He said ‘We are all well compensated. We ask customers not to tip, but to come back again’. How refreshing!

Really nice authentic Indian food, felt very nostalgic eating here. The laal maas was full of smokey flavour with the meat so tender, paratha was flaky and crisp and the biriyani was classically fragrant. We also loved the starters with the dosa and sheekh kebab being my favourite. Staff were warm and welcoming and there were plenty of them!!! The restaurant is conveniently located very close to Gloucester Road tube station and a short walk away from the Royal Albert Hall if you are going there after. It was ambient and romantic which was perfect for the two of us.

Nice butter chicken, good service and a nice atmosphere. Food was delivered really fast which made me slightly nervous, but the food was tasty so I didn’t mind. Rose lassi was perfect It’s actually very affordable, too. You’d spend the same amount (or more) in an average Bangladeshi curry house and probably have bad food. I spent more on my dinner in Masala Zone nearby and the food was inedible. It’s better to come to Bombay Brasserie for a curry if you’re in the area. I recommend this place and would happily come again.

I had a disappointing experience at an upscale Indian restaurant in London. My uncle accidentally left his glasses at the restaurant, so he called them to confirm if they had been found. The staff assured him that the glasses were there. When we went to pick up his belongings, we discovered that although they handed us the glasses case, the glasses themselves were missing. It seems the glasses were stolen. When we contacted them about the missing glasses, they insisted that they hadn’t found anything and claimed that none of the staff had stolen them. They mentioned there was no evidence of theft, but I noticed a lack of interest in checking the security cameras. It seemed like they weren’t taking the matter seriously, and there was no follow-up to resolve the situation. This lack of accountability and attention to detail was truly disappointing and left a bad impression.

My uncle had a very disappointing experience at this upscale Indian restaurant in London. He accidentally left his glasses there, so he called to check if they had been found. The lack of accountability and attention to the issue left my uncle very disappointed, and it’s hard to trust the restaurant after this incident.

Really good food! Ambience is good as well! The service is just OK for a expensive place like this. It seems like the employees just work here and have no suggestions for drinks, food, deserts etc! They are nice and not rude. Just blah. They can all use training.

We ate with 7 adults and 2 children, a very spicy meat starter and a basmati rice with traces of chicken and a tasteless ice cream for the second course. We paid 800 pounds, a steal also because we only drank beer, not even a bit of wine. Low quality and high prices. I don't understand how you can eat in places like this.

Indian cognoscenti have been going here since the late Eighties. Food is 'pukka' and, as I found out tonight, they have an original cocktail featuring Kashmiri Chili created in-house. Still, I was surprised my friend did not join me (to escape family briefly!) till I saw the sloppy dress of people there. My friend is a stickler. I even forced my fat belly into a waistcoat to meet him! The old Indian aristocracy (and Merchant Princes) had certain standards. Still, this is family friendly and 'heritage'. Not expensive at all if you look at the sky high rents in the neighbourhood. I say it is value for money. But, with dress code, they can charge more and the experience will be better.

Bombay Brasserie should undoubtedly be a five-star restaurant given its prime location and rich heritage. The ambiance and flavors truly stand out—there's no denying the food is delicious and well-crafted. However, a few things left me disappointed. When I asked for tap water, it was served in a standard carafe, only to later find myself charged for bottled water instead. This felt misleading, if not outright deceptive. I also ordered two vegetarian main dishes, but the portion sizes were closer to side dishes than mains. For the price, I expected better value and more generosity in the servings. While the flavours are impressive, I hope the restaurant improves its approach to pricing and service standards to align with its otherwise stellar reputation. ⭐⭐⭐

Spacious restaurant…. Food is quick on table…. Authentic food without unnecessary experimentation. Service is quick. They don’t add service charge, which is rarely seen. Neither they ask like other restaurants. Value their service and pass the service charge.

Reservamos este restaurante para una celebración especial de cumpleaños con 22 personas que asisten. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa , sabores auténticos y muy bien presentado . Tuvimos una mesa descentrada del restaurante principal y apreciamos la privacidad que esto ofrecía. Nuestro camarero , John era muy agradable y servicial y atento a nuestras peticiones . Todo el personal era muy servicial. El restaurante tenía un ambiente encantador y la decoración atractiva y acogedora. One of the best Indian restaurants in London that’s we’ve been to so far. Their food, service and ambiance are all on point. We went there on a Friday afternoon for lunch and were surprised to see the restaurant not too crowded. We’d love to keep going back again and again!

We were 20 of us and the service was incredible! Ameya took very good care of us and his hospitality was great! Highly recommended, if you are looking for a chic Indian restaurant that has the service mindset then this is the one! Their dal makhni and chicken biryani is unmistakably delicious!

We had our daughters 30th Birthday party On Sunday we had excellent service. Amey the Restruent Manager gave sound advise putting the menu together and overseeing the evenning . Thankyou.!!

Not quite the same standard as The Taj in India (considering it's the same company). We arrived early for our booking, so were asked to sit in the bar area. But they didn't offer us any drinks or ask if we needed anything while we waited. The mains had too much garam masla in it. The flavours and textures of the food had great potential, but didn't quite get there. The restaurant space was great, enough room for our group of 7. All the food, drinks and cutlery fit well. And we had plenty of space between us and the next tables. Often tables can be too small and crowded for large groups at restaurants. Decor and music was beautiful.

My experience in Bombay Brasserie was truly elevated by the incredible people at this restaurant. The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere transported me straight to the vibrant streets of Delhi and Bombay. Ed eccoci qui a distanza di un anno per confermare la valutazione data nel 2023: Bombay Brasserie e’ una certezza, anzi dobbiamo dire di aver cenato ancora meglio in quanto, secondo noi, sono tornati ai sapori ancora più tradizionali dell’India. Certamente bisogna amare i gusti “forti “, ma la vera cucina indiana è questa …quindi bravissimi, a noi e’ piaciuta moltissimo. Abbiamo scelto del tandoori prawns ottimo( gamberi giganteschi e tenerissimi), lamb kebab e malabar lamb gustosissimi ( agnello tenerissimo!) e un purè di melanzane affumicate speziate saporitissime! Naan all’aglio e riso hanno fatto da contorno. Birra Combra presente in tavola. Tutto ottimo! Torneremo!

Attended here for a wedding and the food and service was exquisite. Looking forward to coming back to try the food again in the restaurant.

Wonderful, beautiful service and indescribable place

Really lovely restaurant in a great part of London, a few seconds walk away from Gloucester Road tube. We've been coming here for years, and the food quality is always fantastic. The prices over recent years have risen significantly, which is a shame, as the food and service are excellent. Weekends are particularly good, as they offer a buffet brunch. It's extremely popular, so recommend booking in advance. We had a party of 10 for dinner, so we had to either pre order, or opt for the tasting menu. We decided to pre order a la carte, which was fine. Lovely food, authentically spiced and very well cooked. Knocking off 1 star due to the increase in pricing. For example, a portion of pani puri (granted, was not on the menu), was £15! We will be returning.

We dined on Saturday lunch time. The only option to eat was Buffet, felt it should have been mentioned that ala- carte option is not available During booking. Good choices in the Buffet.

A la carte experience during the week...felt rather exclusive and pricey, but flavoursome. Sunday buffet...best lamb biryani I've had in a while. Good value great tastes.

It's been 10 years since I visited Bombay Brasserie with my partner. It was the natural choice to take her to for her birthday. This time we took our son whose addicted to Indian food. We all loved our lunch in this stunning restaurant. Hopefully we won't wait so long to return.

We had a delicious meal of Chickpeas Masala, Shrimp Simla Mirch, Ambi Paneer Tikka, and Yogurt Salsa with Garlic Naan. Totally delicious...all of it. Then we went to the bar where Benny, Imjad, and Joel mixed us a handful of truly exotic drinks, which we thoroughly enjoyed as our hotel was only 10 yards away. We super-highly recommend the Bombay Brasserie for a great dinner and ambiance.

Ever since the eighties I went to Bombay Brasserie during my visits to London and was never disappointed. This is not simply a food place, this is an Indian experience full of hospitality and taste. This time I took 22 family members to celebrate a family event, they came out amzed. The service was outstanding, anything you ask for, they will do eveything to accomodate.. My guests were thrilled.

This place transports you into the classic indian fine dining restaurant, a place millenials like me had probably gone to with their parents in the late 90s. With a gorgeous bar, a pleasing and classy decor that's not common with all the modern indian fad of late, this restaurant checks all the right boxes. The food was delicious, with a phenomenal palak patta chaat and wonderful chicken tikka and butter chicken. The cocktails are equally good but the star of the show was the staff of the restaurant. From the lady who took our last minute reservation to Shri, our server, everyone is there to help you and make you feel comfortable. This is definitely a place I'll come back to next time I'm in London 😊

this is without question some of the best indian cuisine we've ever had. we chose to order the premium tasting menu, which allowed us the wonderful privilege of trying many different and creative dishes, each expertly prepared. the atmosphere, service and attention to detail is exceptional. Ignore the naysayers. I’ve been coming to the Bombay Brasserie on just about every trip to London I’ve made since probably 1985! And it’s as good as, or better than, ever. We were here this week with a group of 6 and everyone was simply wowed by the food and service. And the atmosphere is still beautiful. This remains amongst London’s best Indian food.

Delicious food! The bhindi and dhal were bursting with flavor! We had multiple other dishes and all were wonderful The service was very attentive. A really nice bar as well!

We visited over the weekend for a family dinner. The atmosphere and service were nice, but I was not impressed with the food, especially the Biryani; it did not taste authentic at all. Additionally, the prices were a bit higher compared to other fine dining restaurants.

Visited during our latest London visit had dinner and that was the worst I had during my 5 days visit. They are over priced and was surprised to see in £21+ dish with saying chicken platter having only 3 pieces of 1 piece each for each variety. Portion size is very small and also not many options for curries .Was visiting from USA and price is not an issue if food is good but quality and quantity both were not in proportion with the price. Will not suggest this place to anyone.

Ok. we made reservations 3 months ahead of time to start. We were meeting two other couples from Vancouver, Canada. We have eaten in this restaurant several times before and loved every bite and bragged about it to our friends! 5 days before, the reservation was cancelled by them because they were offered a better deal by hosting a private event. Try and get another reservation at a premium Indian restaurant that soon👎. We were SOOO disappointed! They offered a discount at their sister restaurant that was $100CND taxi ride away BOTH ways! We stay at the Millennium Gloucester because this place is close by. We will never darken their door again. BTW..I was able able to secure a last minute reservation at Light of India and it was amazing! Goodbye Bombay Brasserie👎👎😡

Attended a private event here a while back. It was well executed with good quality food and drinks, in a lovely setting. Service was very friendly and have been meaning to go back for a meal. Highly recommend.

Visited with group of people. Expectation was really high because it’s a good banded chain restaurant, unfortunately food taste, quality and service was nothing near our expected level. Paner starer i had no taste. Wrong marination!! table sauces came after have finished our starer. Main meal was awful. Seems to me people go there for so called brand or name and fame. Be aware !!

Sadly, I have to agree with some recent reviews. I wont be returning. I have dined here many times over the years ( but not recently) and took friends for dinner. Attentive staff, but food quality has deteriorated and much more expensive. They neglected to serve a round of beverages, the servings were miserly, quality of food so-so. Management needs a big shake-up.

This used to be my go to place in the late 00’s, brought a friend here full of high expectations, it was a let down from start to finish. The food is nothing like it was, small dishes and nothing stand out at all. Perhaps everywhere has moved forward and BB hasn’t, it felt tired.

Held my wedding reception at the conservatory. Outstanding food, brilliant hosting and stunning venue. The service was immaculate and well lead by the restaurant manager, Benny. All dishes were served on time across 100+ guests. Their professionalism was brilliant to watch and experience, as there was constant flow of food and timely of dishes. All guests have complimented the food and the unbelievable service. I am forever grateful to Benny hosting this event for my wedding with a stunning array of dishes. I highly recommend to eat at Bombay brasserie with delicious dishes, great quantity and the spices were memorable. Thank you again for this brilliant day - I will definitely be back to eat at this top Indian restaurant in UK!

Very nice Indian restaurant that was recommended to me by an Indian friend from London. The dishes are tasty and very nice presented. I had lamb. The portion was very large. My wife had the curry with shrimps. The curry sauce tasted very very fresh. The personnel is very friendly, attentive and considerate making sure you will have a great experience. The location has lots of atmosphere with many old photos decorating the walls that you want to check out. A great place with great food en people!

Very elegant brasserie, beautiful bar at the entrance with a fire place. The service was very polite and helpful. The food was delicious but a bit spicier than I expected, couldn’t finish it.

Attended an office celebration party at this venue. Food is authentic Indian, service is perfect "athithi devo bhava" "Guest is my lord" and ambience is classy.

From having a wonderful experience a few years ago at this place, I was so disappointed with the quality of the food last night. Given my Indian heritage, I know when the food has been freshly cooked or taken out of the freezer and reheated. Anyways, unless I hear different, there is no way I am ever going back to this place.

No pictures as I was meeting dear friends and we were busy chatting! The ambiance, unobtrusive service n authentic North Indian food was great on my palate after weeks of bland food (travelling through Europe). Do visit if you can. Their chicken briyani was delicious

I dined solo at the Bombay Brasserie in late February 2024. It was a first-class experience. The service was impeccable and the food superb. Amongst the best Indian meals I have had. Highly recommend.

Amazing place to eat the most authentic Indian food. The ambience and the hospitality were truly amazing. Kudos to the staff for taking care of us from the start and helping us settle down. The buffet was filled with delicious chaat items ranging from paani puri to bhel puri and some nibbles. The starters included chicken, prawns and a vegetable patty with salads. Lot of good options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Everything tasted authentic and it was similar to what you get in India. I highly recommend this place 👌👌👌👌👌

The food was overpriced and not seasoned correctly. Im not being picky really. It is the disease of London restaurants, not using simply salt and pepper correctly. If restaurant in mainland Europe where like this they would be out of business!

Unfortunately, the food serve is mediocre at best. Make sure not to try the duck as it lacks the taste. Tikka Chicken not bad but again for the price it would need to be extraordinary! Even the garlic naan bread lacked flavour. A garlic Naan! Its all about quality ingredients so I would recommend the owner to invest in Spanish garlic to enhance flavour. Otherwise everything lacked the flavour:/

We had a wonderful buffet lunch at the Bombay Brasserie last Sunday. We were celebrating 3 family birthdays here for the second year running and found the food and service to be consistently excellent, and the relaxed ambience makes it a perfect place for a celebration of mixed ages . The choice of food is perfect for both young children and adults, and the 6 year old loved his birthday candle! Thank you.

Good food, great portions, luxurious setting, just not cozy enough to make you want to go back

We enjoyed a delightful meal featuring a wide array of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, complemented by delicious Indian snacks. The host, Mr. Amey Sawant, exudes warmth and cheerfulness, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance was pleasing, and the food quality stood out. I particularly relished the sweets, including kheer, beetroot halwa, and kulfi. Our visit for Saturday brunch was thoroughly enjoyable, and I look forward to returning.

If you like Indian food it's a nice place to go for Dinner

Upon walking into this restaurant, we were greeted by a pleasant woman who led us to our reserved table. Reservations aren't required. On scanning the menu, we were astonished to see the lack of options for an Indian restaurant. There were very limited curry options for both chicken and lamb, however the taste seemed authentic. The chicken biryani was good but the portion size was small, like every other dish, including the starters. We had ordered one mango juice, which tasted alright, but that was the only thing that was alright. Finally onto the price. The aforementioned mango juice costed a mere £8 and an £128 meal for 2 was a step closer to extortion. We left rather bemused and we will certainly not be returning.

I visited Bombay brasserie on the Christmas Eve. This was my second visit, we had invited our friends who were visiting London for a short trip. The first time I visited the restaurant was with my partner few years back, we enjoyed the service and food hence we went ahead and Invited our important guests here, reserved before hand. I was shocked to see from the time we Entered the service was so poor. Staff is not trained for the high end name of the restaurant, I get better service in a average restaurant then this. We were with a pram with Kids, staff didn't have any manners to remove the caution stop, I had to ask them twice. Again after entering we had to wait to be seated while we were already reserved. The worst part the staff was so lost while taking orders, didn't have proper knowledge of the menu and also while serving, no proper manners to do plating, just handed to our hands. It was so awkward they kept coming to our table asking if they should clear and if we are done. This is a high end restaurant? Literally 5 times we were disturbed and asked if we are done and should we clear the table as if they just want us to leave. It was so embarrassing for us. Mainly the food served didn't meet our expectations aswell, very very average. Poor quality, bad presentation. I was highly disappointed, would not recommend it. I am an influencer, I try many restaurants around London, this was the worst experience. The bill I paid was £420 and I felt I dumbed my money in garbage. Very sad experience. Staff needs to be trained, food needs to meet the name of Taj!!!!

the food was fine. cauliflower was good but not spicy at all (a little bland), chicken didn’t taste indian at all (really bland and plain), naan/paratha were amazing (crunchy and chewy), drink (zingy) was great. there were not enough options for the main course or the desserts. out of 5 desserts only 3 (counting mango icecream) were actually indian. the atmosphere was great and the staff were really polite. for the price, there should be more options.

I appreciated the above-average food at the restaurant, although it didn't quite live up to the hype. The service was excellent—attentive without being pushy. However, vegetarians might find limited options, and the cuisine seemed more tailored for the locals. Overall, a good experience but not extraordinary.

It’s an amazing and nice dining experience. The service is good. Food is delicious. Love the lamb chop, butter chicken curry and chaat. Desserts are the best, all are really nice and beyond our expectations. The portion is high and all tasted soooo good. They offer a special birthday surprise, quite interesting. The decor and space of the restaurant is beautiful. Highly recommended for special occasions or celebrations.

Had an average, decent visit to Bombay Brasserie. It was my first time. The service was good, and the staff was friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was good too. Food was slightly disappointing. Naan was dry, and some of the curry dishes just didn’t go right. They need to work harder to compete with Jamavar, Bombay Bustle, Pahli Hill, Dishoom etc!

Quite disappointed as my previous visits to Bombay Brasserie were nothing short of fantastic. We visited this last week as a group of 6 for brunch. The main hall was taken up by a wedding reception and we were relegated to a smaller section in the front. We could make out that the service was visibly slow and forced. The food was average at best, cocktails uninspiring (we had to send back the red hot chilli pepper cocktail)and poorly designed, definitely not worthy of carrying the Taj brand name. Limited starters with only the chicken tikka being of any note. Only two of the mains were ok, the kadhi and lamb. The rest were below par at best. The desserts were perhaps the worst, few but stale. The jalebis were stale and chewy, the cake / brownie was visible stale and dry. We decided to leave and have cocktails and dessert elsewhere. Didn't expect to go to a fine dining Taj restaurant and want to pay the bill quickly to go off and get some satisfying food and drink. Was very sad to see that my favourite Indian restaurant in UK had gone down so badly. I hope the management take drastic steps to remedy this situation.

Upscale Indian restaurant with delicious and pretty authentic Indian food. Plenty of vegetarian choices, friendly staff. I'd go back

Upscale place, delicious food, friendly staff. There Baingan (eggplant) is definitely one of the best ones I've had! Naans are fresh and made in brick oven. Recommended!!!

We were in London for the weekend and decided to go to the Bombay Brasserie. It’s been a few years since we were last here . The food, atmosphere and service was still great We ordered the lamb shank , chicken tikka makhani, bindi curry and cauliflower curry with plain nans and egg Paratha. All the dishes were so tasty. They gave us complimentary popodums to start . For 3 of us with soft drinks the meal came to ~ £130 which may seem pricy but not bad for London and we were very full after this . Also it’s a bonus that there was no automatic service charge and they have a no tipping policy . The only thing missing was the pianist which they used to have years ago. In any case we will be back when we are next here. This is our favourite Indian restaurant in London. Being Asian we know authentic Indian food !

I had an exceptional experience. Every part was exemplary. The food is out of this world and the service is attentive and helpful. Highly recommended

It was OK but not outstanding. Service was very good - attentive without being intrusive. Two diners were veggie, and there was a reasonable choice (though maybe not as much as some Indian restaurants). Although the portion sizes were ok for me personally, as I have a small appetite, I don't think just a main dish would satisfy a hungry guy - would need a starter and some sides. Also, the prices are quite high, even for central London. However, the quality was good. What spoilt the evening a bit was the fact that last orders are strictly 9 pm (isn't that a bit early for central London - I think 9:30 is more normal?) Two diners arrived 8:50 having had a 2.5 hour journey - so it was all a bit rushed and we did feel a bit pressured to order and get out by 10 pm - I think we were the last ones left by then,

This place is just amazing - could only try the appetisers and the desert and both were just amazing
