The Bowling Green in Manchester

We have just stayed for 2 nights and was very impressed with the facilities, location and the very friendly staff. On arrival we went into the pub area to have lunch and check in. We was greeted by the most friendliest person you could wish to meet (Jess). She sat us down at a table of our choice and served us table service all the time we was in the bar. She even checked us in at the table! She showed us our rooms and explained everything that was available for breakfast or midnight snacks. All was included in the stay. The rooms had a fridge, tea/coffee equipment,goodie basket of cakes, biscuit etc. Outside the rooms was a breakfast station that had most cereal you could think off! It had cheeses,crackers,yogurt,fresh milk,more teas,coffee and hot chocolate. Fresh fruit included as well. But the best thing was the Pot noodles! They top everything up daily so no need to clear the stock out. We had a great stay and the location was perfect. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Storage space was a slight issue but easy to adapt too. The only negative was last night at about 1.00 am they emptied the bottles out under our window which woke my wife. We would definitely stay again and it’s great to see a smaller business put so much effort into the rooms and facilities to ensure a great stay. Forgot to say the pub part was very popular, food was excellent and a very good atmosphere. Great place to stay. I do think being greeted by Jess on our arrival did set the tone for a great stay.

Can I say…..Mark and the team are fantastic. Simple as that. They looked after our family and friends with care, support and professionalism after a recent funeral. Everybody commented on how great the event was with great beers, great food and well looked after Highly recommended for a couple and a private party Thank you guys….

Not been to the Bowling Green for a while so decided to call in for some food, wasn't disappointed either. Had the fish goujon starter and the Beef and Guinness pie, both absolutely fantastic. Staff lovely and helpful also,couldn't do enough for me. Won't be leaving it so long until my next visit, more so as one of the staff was telling me they had a new menu coming,so something to look forward to.

We stayed here for two nights. The room was spacious and very clean, with a really large, comfortable double bed and a modern bathroom. The attention to detail impressed me with plenty of tea, coffee and snacks available. The hotel itself is situated in a lovely, quiet area. I would definitely recommend, and would happily return when visiting the Manchester area again.

Disappointing second visit. Felt unwelcoming this time around and staff encountered not really interested in customer service.

Booked based on reviews received. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Sunday lunch was average at best. Use of frozen ingredients and minimal meat portions. Banoffee pie for desert was extremely small and still partly frozen. Service was indifferent. Although not particularly busy it took over 20 minutes to order dessert, maybe due to staff turnover? Disappointing.

The Bowling Green catered for all our needs, during the weeks leading up to our celebrations and on the night of our School Reunion, especially Mark Canny who provided invaluable help along the way. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, with nothing too much trouble. The buffet menu provided a wide choice of food which satisfied the dietary requirements for all who attended. The function room was an ideal venue in layout and size for our purpose, with cleanliness an obvious priority throughout The Bowling Green. We would highly recommend The Bowling Green as an excellent venue for your function, with their catering and warm welcome second to none. Thank you to everyone concerned.

I heard so much about this place that I decided to come with my family. The menu is very rich and the food is good. I'm very fond of how the table is set and I have to say it was perfect.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bowling Green. The room was tastefully furnished and super clean. Although there was no hot breakfast, we didn't miss it as there was plenty of the cold options and snacks. Had a meal in the pub and it was excellent for the price. Definitely stay there again. Just had a lovely Sunday lunch with my sisters. Food was excellent and would definitely come back Staff could not have been more helpful. We have been promising ourselves a visit for a long time and we were not disappointed. Special thanks to the young waiter we didn't get his name but he was from Tipperary. We may be biased. We stayed on a wet Thursday night in February. The upstairs rooms are roomy, clean with a breakfast bar that ticks all boxes. We had dinner which was tasty and well priced. Thursday night was quiz night, we just had to join in. 2 plus hours of quality quizzing, really chilled us after a very long day. The staff are so good, we will be back. Thank you to you all.

Mark, his wife and their team run the most amazing pub/restaurant, which is the reason we’ve been going for many years. The atmosphere is always buzzing and friendly. It’s clean and all the staff can’t do enough for you. Mark is an exceptional host and always looks after all his customers which are more friends. We love The Bowling Green!

We love this place for great Sunday lunches, today however was an awfully disappointing Christmas lunch. Sloppy carrots, sloppy mash and tasteless Turkey, sprouts had an odd taste. Roast potatoes were soggy . Not up to scratch at all, but the service was lovely.

Booked in for a night as we had an early appointment in that area. Met and shown our room by the host,what a nice and welcoming man. Our room was large ,warm ,clean and very well presented. Large bath with shower in a stunning bathroom. King size bed very comfortable nice clean fresh bedding. Extra little touches like a little food basket full of treats Were lovely 👍,Everything you need for a pleasant stay Tea coffe making facilities along with a fridge. . Staff were lovely and very helpful we ate in the bar for our evening meal great value and good food Breakfast was available from the station outside our room , fruit, cereals,porridge various other things, fresh juices ,milk and cheese in the fridge more than enough and available st anytime you felt like a snack. Absolutely delightful family Sunday lunch today. Fabulous atmosphere, really clean, great friendly staff, food was awesome ! So tasty, fresh, great portion size, wholesome, great value for money and all round delicious! Love this place, really homely and who can beat a family run local business.

I think the pub is lovely but it’s now ran by little kids majority of them are childish .. the food went down hill a few years ago literally from starters to roast dinners on a Sunday . Simply not worth price not to mention the price of beer .. moretti £6.20 wow so is Heineken … mark canny sort it out mate wow

Wonderful Autumn Menu. Exceptional quality and unbelievable value. Braised beef, luscious mash, onions and gravy. Beautifully cooked sea bass, new pots, lemon and caper sauce with samphire. For starters, home made crab cakes. Lovely attentive service and staff. Best meal of the year in a great, friendly and community focussed pub. Price: £15 for 2 courses. How do they do it?

Was a nice family warm environment. The food was not as described as on the menu, for example 4 plates came without roast potatoes and 1 had them, my friend politely questioned the waiter about the lack of roast potatoes on the plates and she was told ‘roast potatoes don’t come with the roast’. This was a lie as one our friends had roast potatoes and also the menu stated that ALL roast dinner come with ‘crispy roasties’. Also we had to wait 50 minutes for our food to come and it was like warm. There was also lack of vegetables on my plate.

Thoroughly enjoyed two night mid week stay at The Bowling Green and also ate in. The establishment is located in a surprisingly quiet location less than 5 minutes round the corner from charming Chorlton green. Who would have thought there’s such a wonderful village type community as a suburb of Manchester! Accommodation was clean and comfortable with everything needed provided for. Breakfast consisted of in-room cereals and pastries with additional choices available in plentiful quantities at a communal fridge and breakfast station in the hall including juices, milk and fruit. Reserved guest parking is considerately provided near the accommodation. Meals eaten consisted of Braised top side of beef and gravy by my wife and the Sea bass by myself, both tasty and plentiful. Thanks for including my favourite among the desserts - Apple pie - something not offered often enough these days.

We held our wedding reception here in the back room. The landlord Mark was very accommodating in the build up, giving us some great ideas to enhance the evening, and the bar service and homecooked food was excellent. We ordered the beef hotpot which was so good in fact many guests went up for a second helping! The room was a perfect size for the number of guests (60ish) and everyone was complimentary about the pub in general including the rooms which were booked by friends and family. Would highly recommend!

Me and my business partner enjoyed the new menu at the Bowling Green today. Especially recommend the crab cakes and the chicken and leek pie. Attentive and friendly service as always!

Mark and his staff at the bowlinggreen have been fantastic. They really helped ensure our function a wake went smoothly, the venue is spot on really nice friendly atmosphere, the food and buffet provided was superb and little touches such as being able to select a song were great. We were last at the Bowling green in 2019 and it was all good from service to food & drinks. Unfortunately on 13/08/2023 it was not good at all. The staff were non interested in helping us to get a table indoors and said we can sit outside. Outside tables were dirty and we were sat at table 201 which still had dishes on which were cleared b a member of staff but he made no mention of he was coming back to wipe the dirty table down, which he didn't. I went in after 5 minutes and asked for something to clean the table with and was handed some blue roll and a bottle of spray. Cleaned the table which was pretty dirty (it's now probably the cleanest table there). Beyond that and the lack of interest from staff plus seeing someone send their meal back because it really wasn't up to the quality that used to be at the BG, we decided to leave. Unless this place improves , we won't be back which is unfortunate as my parents had wanted to book a stay here as they had thought it much better than a chain hotel.

Popped in here with my family and had a lovely Sunday roast lamb dinner - the service was fast & efficient. Only issue was we had a dog and had to move table as they are not allowed on the carpeted area. They did give the dog some treats :)

Bought a lamb dinner and turkey and stuffing. My lamb came (large) it was one piece of thinly cut lamb. The rest of the food had been reheated so I left it all. My wife’s food was cold by the time I eventually got mine it also had no stuffing ?? Again was reheated food. I would not recommend anyone eat here unless you want cheap tasteless food

Mi esposo y yo nos alojamos por 3 noches en el Bowling Green en diciembre, ciertamente no nos decepcionó, el personal es excelente, en particular el propietario Mark, que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos. Las habitaciones que han sido recientemente renovadas eran muy cómodas, muy espaciosas y tenían todo lo que pudiéramos necesitar. Recomiendo encarecidamente tener comida y bebidas en el bar, el menú satisface todos los gustos, el menú del desayuno también era delicioso. La ubicación de la ciudad fue muy fácil, a poca distancia de la parada de tranvía que te llevará a la ciudad en 10 minutos. Recomiendo encarecidamente el Bowling Green.

I booked the Bowling Green for my parents & the hotel owner and staff have gone above and beyond to assist with my queries, meet my wishes and accommodate our needs regardless of how if affected them. Outstanding service that is a rare gem to find. A huge thank you to Mark for everything.

Everything was excellent during our 2 night stay. Staff were fantastic the owner Mark was really accomadating to us and contact was fast. The room was newly renovated and the bed was really comfy. The bar and restaurant are a great place to eat and drink.we had no faults I would definitely recommend The bowling Green and would definitely stay here again.
