This is a cracking spoons always have a great selection of ales on which are well looked after , the location is good with the bus and railway station within a couple of minutes walk.

Good. Sometimes its hard to get served as the staff congregate in the kitchen area at the end of the bar.

Always a friendly face and some space cakes!

It's a Wetherspoons. It's cheap, it's busy, there's never enough staff but the food is always spot on for the price 👍🏻

Cheaper on the app, very fast service, extremely good value including refill drinks, quite busy so everything was hot and fresh too. Great location and parking outside too.

English pub style food, good taste, good value, plenty of seats in the restaurant. If you have a chance, you should come and try it.

Brilliant Pub. Travelled all over the world and still find this place to be one of the friendliest, chattiest pub I've ever been. Found myself countless times now going with friends and ending up staying for drinks with people I've I've Met 🤭 Great boozer.

Lovely as always. Entered with 5 and the staff cleaned and moved tables together to suite. Lovely food as well, top notch place.

Always a pleasant atmosphere. Good food, quick service at great prices. Can't go wrong really with breakfast or a main meal. Never breaks the bank.

Cheap drink and food good atmosphere

This is hard to write but true. I made the mistake of choosing to go in for dinner and it was the worst dining experience I've ever had. First of all the table I chose was hijacked in my absence, fair enough I then had to use the only free table, a 6 person one which caused anger with others. While waiting for my food I nipped to the disabled toilet only to open the door to see someone having a dump! I was then walking back to my table only to get accosted my a drunken lady demanding that I remove my cap. By this time I'd had enough and decided to ask for a refund as my food hadn't been served. The barman said I'd have to ask the manager, a very sweary hard faced woman, for my money back. She refused as the food was cooked. I said can I have it as a take away and she told me that I'm "not getting any effing thing" I just walked out minus my food or a refund.

First time I've visited this 'Spoons, & had a great time catching up with some old friends. Great range of real ales, very prompt service by the bar staff & a busy, friendly clientele ( no, REALLY). Can't comment on the food, as I didn't eat there, but had a great time & will definitely go back sometime.

Really disappointed with the attitude of the male staff member with a large beard..time was 11.35 my grandad had a small breakfast and it had about 6 beans. So I went up and asked him if we could have a few more beans please he wasn't polite and had an attitude and said its a small breakfast.god help a big breakfast it would be 10 beans. We call every week and it's put us off coming the other staff are normally brilliant

Waiters and staff all very friendly and helpful. Food was gorgeous. They forgot to put the cheese on my friend's burger so one of the guys brought it round on its own saucer for us to pop on the burger (despite my friend initially saying he wasn't bothered). Clientele all down-to-earth and everyone quite chatty. Definitely one of the better 'Spoonses I've been to. If I'm in the area again I'll be back.

Pretty standard, same as most wetherspoons franchises really... good value for money

The Brass Balance is one of the chain of Wetherspoons. The size of Wetherspoons allows lower prices for food and drink. The pub has a steady flow of customers during the day without being crowded. A strange mix of early morning all day drinkers and workers from the business and court sections of Birkenhead nearby. A pleasant atmosphere despite the disparity in customers. with an outdoor smoking/vaping area with tables and chairs best used when the weather is good. A brilliant good value menu - particularly for different types of breakfasts. The toilets were clean - as was the whole indoors area. An amazing US style coffee top-up machine with different types of coffee for just over a £1 for as many cups of coffee you want - which is excellent value (given that coffee houses in Birkenhead charge approximately £4 per cup of coffee of your choice. Different evenings during the week such as Curry Night - suitable for group evenings out. Parking is not free. Main road (Argyle Street) and County Court car park have fee paying parking bays as expected in the centre of town. Happy to recommend this pub highly.

Was a joke if I’m honest me and my girlfriend ordered a mixed grill my girlfriend finished hers and I had a good bit of mine to then find the gammon on my plate was raw , very dangerous serving uncooked meat as a chef myself I understand this is a big no no asked for refund was fobbed off and offered free dessert, no thanks chefs need to learn how to cook meet hopefully we don’t end up Ill or worse in hospital, terrible service and poor handling from management who told me the meet was cooked, im educated in food and I can assure you the meat was raw 👎🏻

Great prices and excellent service

I was surprised how good the salad was in here. I've heard nothing but bad experiences about wetherspoons in general. But had to go due to a work client wanting to go. I ordered grains salad. It was nice. The rest of the place needs updating and staff need training in being polite but was better than expected.

Lively pub. Very busy and popular. Standard Wetherspoon menu so food is good value. It is the first Wetherspoon where my food was literally thrown at me, but it was a very busy Friday night. It’s very loud for a conversation. But Service was quick and the food that was ordered is the same as the food that was brought. It’s not surprising there is food on the floor given the manner of service as while Most of the food served arrived on the table some did miss.

I went with my daughter and her food was awful the steak and kidney pudding could have been used for self defense it was that hard, and dryer than a mouthful of rich tea biscuits. But weather spoons are hit and miss as the employee of the month in the kitchens the microwave. Would I eat here again maybe if I was hung over

I found this place a few years ago, when I was in town, visiting relatives. As pubs go, it's brilliant. You can park very inexpensively, right outside the door, making it perfect for anyone with limited mobility. And because it's in a relatively quiet part of town, you won't have trouble getting a space. The staff and the locals are a great bunch, the ales are very well kept and the food is great. Definitely one of Wetherspoons best establishments. Five stars all the way.

A no frills JD Weatherspoon pub that's not going to set your world alight. The staff are either really helpful and friendly, or completely disinterested which is odd. It's also a pub that could do with a deep clean and a bit of TLC. We had the sharing small plates to eat, which were really good and there were several great beers on offer. It's a really busy pub and takes a bit of time to get served.

Waited an hour for food to come then it was burnt to a crisp. Sent it back managed to get a replacement in 10 minutes and it was ok. Why couldn't you do that the first time

Where do i start .. the staff seemed disinterested and goin through the motions then when at the table i overheard the girl in the next table how she punched a guy and split him open then she was showing her mate the video of her getting arrested. Hmmm classy place lmao

Food was lovely. We had 2 full English and unlimited coffee. It's a big place so plenty of room to sit in.

I think this is a fair , review , was their today , long wait for food , some staff stated technical problems in kitchen , others stated only one staff member in the kitchen , so going off that all was ok really half way due to service and contradictory staff, the atmosphere was brilliant tho all seemed to be enjoying themselves , the hotness had the doors open at the front allowing a cool breeze , throughout , which also added to the friendly atmosphere within the place , as for the food tho , we had return the first cup back due to having lipstick marks on , bit crazy as it only like 9:30 ish 10am but yer relates to the one member of staff , and they forgot the extra black pudding , but all other extras where added, but the food was to the typical Wetherspoon standard for its breakfast , , however I will be going again none of this criticism, has put me off visiting the place again. I do hope they resolve the kitchen staff issue during the course of the day , as it was only early and the weather is a typical beer day , so I can only presume it should get better , but that’s down to the management,

I usually walk along the Mersey before/after going to the Balance. Always a welcome and more than a standard Spoons at the Balance. Hamilton Square and Birkenhead Priory are nearby attractions.

Just a local wetherspoon, could be very crowd on weekend evening.

We popped in on a Tuesday evening and had an alright experience. The food was decent, drinks were satisfactory, and overall, we had a good time!

I don't know wetherspoon in Birkenhead is doing on a Saturday but one member of staff that manager behind the bar is ridiculous. I can see the stress on his face. I spoken to the staff and their ready to quit. I don't know what's going on internally but I've been coming here for years now and it was a lovely place to go. But the CEO needs sacking because the the staff aren't happy and the customers are suffering. So sad right now

Great place for breakfast. The eggs benedict is perfect, so yummy and great price. Edit Been numerous times and have always been able to switch out ham for bacon with my eggs benedict. Even been able to in other locations. All of a sudden this morning I'm not allowed. Even with a surcharge. I don't like the inconsistencies. Also my spinach was unwashed.

Great value...fresh salad...little tasty vinaigrette on a burger the other week one of the best I've eaten anywhere...with a drink for a fiver! Staff have a sense of humour too...I like going to this place.

Greasy spoon standard food, arrived about 2pm, ordered fish and chips, sold out,small fish and chips, sold out, hey ho. Why do these places make it a challenge to go to the toilets. Staff are very good, but will return as a last option.

The staff are great and friendly but the place is frequented by some truly unpleasant people so be prepared for that if you attend. The meals are ok and the beer selection is interesting.

The food was excellent, and arrived very quickly. Drinks, on one of our tables arrived BEFORE our empty cups for tea and coffee!!!! How can delivering 2 empty cups take longer than 4 different drinks?? Other than that, brilliant.

I love spoons and always look them up as I travel across the country. I have been in some okay ones and some great ones but OMG this is the worst. It stinks as soon as you walk in. I stood at the bar for a good 10 minutes before I persuaded a bar person to serve me. I asked one bar fella, the one with the long beard if anyone else was serving. I got a very blunt "no". What a horrible guy, not interested at all. Never again will I step foot in this vile place.

This is a great place to come when i feel sad, sometimes i look at the folk in here drinking at 8am like they are pretending to go on holiday and realise my life really isn't that bad after all. burgers are ok. and staff are sound

It's a Wetherspoon pub. You know what you're getting, so in reviewing it's probably best to compare with other pubs in the same chain. This one is always reasonably busy with a friendly atmosphere. Ordered food and drink via the app. Bit disappointed with the drink service with it being slapped in front of me on the table by one of the staff passing by. Not a great start. Food though followed shortly after and was pleasingly brought over, and was pretty good grub. Mixed grill if you're interested. Have had drinks here previously in warmer weather and there is a spacious outside area out the back. Overall decent.

Met up with some friends and had a pint. Cheap drink and very good service. Good atmosphere, I’m sure the food is good so I’ll try next time.

Really lovely spoonies went for breakfast. Free refills on hot drinks and lovely staff.

I was just about to give this place 3 stars because it's an average boring Wetherspoons. But I just watched a member of staff collect glasses and put all the rubbish including used straws, fruit and napkins in the bin with bare hands then go on to serving drinks and food without washing them. Staff also vape in view of the public then go on directly to serve food and drink. If they do this in view of customers I'd hate to think what happens when they aren't being watched.

Yikes loud and busy, staff work hard and get you served with drinks.

Very friendly Weatherspoons. Same old with the food

Ok, pay weekend and Halloween. But the pub smells of damp and urine as you go down to the toilets. Gets worse the more you have to use tho loos and tiles falling off the walls once inside. The staff and management knowingly let cannabis be smoked in their beer garden area, resulting in some of our group having to leave due to the smell. Not right at all. Card payments being made for other peoples drinks due to the fact they were only using one terminal. Disappointed with the quicker visit than we expected!
