The Britannia in Southwark

Only popped in for a quick drink this time but been in here a few times over the years for drinks and always found the staff great and always polite. The glasses are always clean and the pints fresh. You know they keep their lines clean. They have a list of all the whiskys on the wall, plus the staffs favourite tipple which I thought was nice. Looking forward to going back and trying a Cream Pie shot when I'm not driving next time.

Ordered Christmas brisket and they gave me just brisket, when I asked where all the veg and gravy was they said it was the normal menu one and can’t change it and walked off before I could respond. For reference I was sat with 3 other people who ordered word for word the same dish and got the roast dinner with veg, so very confused why I got something else and was told I couldn’t change it even though it was the wrong order. Other than that prices and food was good.

Below is my review from 8 years ago. It's still a whiskey pub and now also has a good selection of food. I was concerned that it had closed permanently at one stage, so I'm glad it's still with us. Good local pub with a focus on whiskey, so I have a whiskey when I come here, but they have a good selection of beers as well.

I organised a Christmas party here and I have to say, everything was just perfect. Communication with Richard the manager was great throughout and the team really looked after us very well on the night. The food was top notch and the whisky bar is one of the best I've seen in a London pub. Great place.

Massive wait for food, explained by one chef short.( but not at the outset). Lipstick on my fresh wine glass! A bit of a rough pub actually. Staff well meaning but not really on it. Never go back.

Delicious food with vegan and vegetarian alternatives in a welcoming and typical English atmosphere. Courteous and fast service. Pay attention to English timetables! We arrived at 7.45pm and the other tables had already finished eating. Around 9pm there was already no one left and they were starting to clean the place. I recommend the "Plant Based Barbecue".

Absolutamente excelente comida! A solo 5 minutos a pie de Borough High Street, escondido, pero nos sirvió algo de la mejor comida que habíamos tenido en siglos. Bloody OUTSTANDING! Slightly off the normal Borough High Street choices. A 5 minute walk, and worth every step! The BBQ rib is beyond tender! It is unbelievably tasty! Especially with a side of fries and mac n cheese! The staff are very friendly and personable. Well done to the whole team 👏

American in London here; the food brings me back home easily and it's a very comfy spot! If ever you are in the area and want some good comfort food, this is the place to go. Staff is very friendly and welcoming however have to give a special shout out to Richard for taking care of us!

Fantastic staff, good drinks and great music.

Best wings and chips I have had in an age. However the Dirty Banana cocktail was unreal. Low key, plenty of room indoors and outdoors and superb service.

Visited on a Sunday evening, very chilled out and friendly atmosphere, nice selection of drinks (especially if you like whiskey!). Pleasant decor too. I only had the classic burger for food but it was excellent.

Don't go here. Frauds trying to rob you from your money. Went to get a round of drinks at the bar. Was told they were added to our tab. Turns out we didn't have a tab. They just didn't take off a previous round that was paid already. Naively I paid. Talking to my mates, I figured out I got scammed and went back. They refunded what was paid already, but not the service charge, making me pay £5 for getting my own drinks at the bar. Ugh

A relaxing and enjoyable place to eat. Food was great and staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back again.

Nice little pub with a good selection of beers and nice range of food. Also amazing whisky and drinks menu! Definitely recommend. Would strongly suggest they bring the pulled pork burger back to the menu, it was by far the best burger!

Quite a small but nice place. A fair bit of outdoor seating, but unfortunately it's almost all in the shade during the day. Quite good ribs on the lunch menu.

Had a Sunday b'day meal here and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! Absolutely delicious it was! We were seated and served pretty quickly. The food was amazing in all honesty. The drinks menu was gargantuan and the drinks were well mixed (i.e., not watered down!). They even served cigars if you're into that. I will definitely be coming back for my grub and I highly recommend. Only improvement I could make is more seating space.

This place was a gem of a find. We stumbled upon it accidentally! I was completely impressed with their knowledge and customer service. If you are a whisky drinker - this is the place for you. Their whiskey menu is impressive. The food was great too. It was lovely tucking into full flavour chicken wings and dip whilst listening to old school classics. They have additional seating outside which is fully covered, so protects you from the elements. 😊 I would definitely visit again if I am in that area.

Nice pub but the meat was really disappointing and expensive. We were attracted by the thought of delicious barbecue and left with regret. I would recommend the place for a drink however and the staff were warm and friendly.

Amazing! Gorgeous interior, ideal location… most importantly, however, is Cammy G! The best bartender I’ve been served by my whole 10 years in London. An absolute delight <3 I’ll certainly be back for his service alone, but most of all another merlot ;)

Amazing ribs, genuinely some of the best I've eaten. Beef short ribs in particular were to die for. Staff were a bit slow but food and decent pint made up for it.

We had 3 burgers, guys, they were amazing!!! That was the best meal we had during our stay in London, well done for the place. Laura was serving our table, she is truly a star, please look after her, I would love to have her kind of people and service in every place I will visit in the future :) Well done guys, I hope I can visit again and again and again.

Super yummy food. We came early (5:30pm) and it was a Monday so it was a quiet but was getting busier as we left. The team there is super friendly too.

Probably the best ribs I've had in my life. They were incredibly flavoursome. The staff were lovely and the music was great!

Super friendly staff, very attentive and helpful. Food was nice but for us lacked the BBQ and smoked flavours you expect. E.g The beef brisket was under salted and corn was overdone. However the special burger was incredible! The desserts were bizarrely thin for the price, more like a loaf slice then a slice of cake. Nice buzzy atmosphere. Book in advance as it gets busy!

This place is a hidden gem with the best bbq food in London!

Came here for the live music on a Saturday night and we had a great evening. The staff are all excellent and served us at the table for the food. Fries and cauliflower sides were excellent. Ribs were a bit dry but tasty. Chicken good. Will try burgers next time. There is a superb selection of drinks with a good choice of beer and an amazing whisky selection as well as other spirits. Wonderful to hear live music with no additional charge. Could become my Saturday choice!

This pub sells really nice barbecue style food, they also have a great selection of whiskies. Roast dinners at the weekend are good too.

I really like this place. Great everything 👏 My only comment is that I often find the music too loud for my taste, so you have to be louder if you want to have a proper conversation. Otherwise you will enjoy it. And the outside space is really lovely. Feels like the countryside in South Bank.

Recently I had the pleasure of attending the Britianna regularly over a space of 3 weeks while visiting London. The manager (Richard) and staff were brilliant- this pub became our “regular”. The food and service was great. The staff were incredibly friendly and very supportive to us given some difficult personal circumstances. The local patrons were also very friendly and welcoming. For us the Britannia become a comfortable and welcoming place to visit and I would welcome the opportunity to visit again if I am ever in London.

This Place is an hidden Gem just about 10 minutes walk from London Bridge, the Drinks the vibes and the music were simply great! All the credit for The show goes to the Irish Man behind the bar, Luke’s is something Different. The way he welcomed us and looked after us the whole night was a balm for our soul, that was the everything you waiting for after a stressful week. We will back again soon

Went for a weekday meal. I had the beef brisket. My husband had the rack of ribs. I wasn't expecting the brisket to be as chewy, but it was still tasty. My husband suggested more sauce for the ribs I thought they were great as they were. The star of the night was the member of staff Olivia. Olivia was friendly and attentive and answered all of my questions in a positive way, really promoting the business. I will attend again to try the burger roast, chilli fries, and experience the music on a weekend.

Richard was so great! we did our work christmas party here and he was fantastic, 10/10 service, and drinks were fab, thanks!

Ordered beef brisket and received a gravy soup with little bits of meat in it not worth £20 per portion. Ribs looked way better.

Don't often do reviews. This is a great pub with lovely smoked food, great outside space, good beers and an amazing collection of whiskies, along with good music, and nice quality staff. All makes for a great night

The Monday deal is amazing! Huge lump of pork belly, fries and a pint for £15! Really friendly staff, good taps, amazing whiskey and delicious food. What more could you ask for. Conveniently close to London Bridge station and all.

Nice pub that we found on short notice as two other pubs we tried beforehand were too busy. We just ordered halloumi fries and skinny fries and they were great. I would recommend it if you're looking for a pub in the area.

Friendly welcome and service from the chaps behind the bar. Went in for a snack and drink, the topped fries were a generous, tasty portion at a fair price.

Booked a table for 7 and we all enjoyed our food. The pub has a nice atmosphere and seems like it has a crowd of frequent visitors which is nice. We booked for Christmas but they never got our meal requests (things like that happen everywhere) so we ordered off the main menu. However service was super slow and we were waiting a long time for our food. The food was all fine, but not amazing, my chips were under done ect. The tastiest thing ordered was the brisket and the worst were both salads ordered. So stick to the bbq meat. One coeliac in our party could only have a dry salad. Sad as they said they cater to special diets on the menu. I had emailed about this too and they never replied.

Guy behind the bar sneakily added a random extra amount to the cost of my burger hoping I wouldn’t notice. When I challenged this, he said ‘it’s the service for the chefs’ without asking permission. Not on.

We went for a friends gathering and had a fabulous time. Elisa was looking after us and she did everything for us to have an amazing time. Definitely recommend! Don’t hesitate anymore

An absolute peach of a pub round the back of London Bridge / Borough. Great drinks menu, superb food options and the friendliest, most welcoming bunch of staff. An outstanding place in an area with lots of great options. Only negative is they add 12.5% service on food that’s already quite expensive.

This was my second time heading here. It's such a great place. The reason for the most recent visit was for pre-drinks before a birthday meal nearby. I'd booked a space in advance (this place can get busy so would recommend booking in advance) and it was all ready. It's super easy to get served at the bar but also staff walk around and take orders from the table. I need to single out Richard, I'm not sure what his role is but I'm guessing he's the manger. He is fantastic, super attentive and really helpful. You can tell he really cares about the customer experience, he really made a difference. He also recommended I get the chips when I first came to this place for lunch. I can not reiterate this enough, listen to Richard and GET THE CHIPS, they are amazing!!! Whenever I'm back in the area and need a place for lunch, without question I'll be going back here.

Really, really, really good cocktails bar man take a bow! Slightly tucked away about 5 minutes from London bridge station the Britannia is a real Gem if you're fond of a cocktail or two. A selection of house specials can be found but they are also more than happy to invent some something to your tastes. Didn't have any food but it looked good from where I was sitting. Would recommend for work drinks or a lively gathering

What a great spot! All of the meats and the bbq sauce are gluten free, so for meat-eating folks with coeliac/celiac there are plenty of good gluten free options. Enjoyed a rack of ribs and some fries and didn’t get sick. That said, I wish there were a gluten free option for the Sunday roast because it looked delicious! The staff were well versed in cross contamination for those with serious allergies (for example, the grilled corn is done on the same surface as flatbreads so it’s not a good option for a serious gluten allergy). Also, one of the only places (including in America!) that I’ve seen picklebacks on a menu, which is incredible.

By far the best pub in the area. Lovely, cosy atmosphere. They offer a good value food deal on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday (changing everyday). We have tried every one of their deals and the food is delicious! The drinks are always great and service is fast and efficient even on their busiest nights. Also, they have Coke in a glass bottle. Definitely try their Spicy Margaritas if you think you can handle the heat!

Great smoked BBQ food! Really friendly attentive staff especially for a pub and nice local neighborhood style pub. Went for a Sunday roast this time and the beef rib was Fabulous as were all the trimmings. The chargrilled corn was also great as a side dish. We will definitely be back.

This place is a hit and miss. If they make it right then it is one of the best places to eat and drink in Southwark. The food is delicious, but I am giving 4 stars as at times they run out of food during the day. Good pint, great selection of whisky, etc. Really attentive and friendly staff.

A lovely pub with great staff. We initially booked for food but when we arrived we felt that the food available wasn't for us (from the look of a few things that others had, we didn't try anything) we stopped for a drink and then headed off. There was some live music whilst we were there too.

Great pub with an excellent drinks selection at very reasonable prices. Their cocktails are very good. The food is incredibly delicious and the Sunday roasts are a complete winner if you enjoy an American barbecue-style take on the traditional English roast (and who wouldn’t?). Serving size is incredibly generous for the price point. The staff are accommodating and friendly.

Booked The Brittania for an engagement party - the serving staff outlined the costs transparently in advance, and the night went smoothly with the bar tab pricing structure (including some food and drinks) that we set with the pub being exactly as described. Very helpful staff who also took time to help us take lots of pictures. Thoroughly recommended.

I live across the pond and these were some of the best ribs i’ve had outside of the deep south :)
