The Duke of Sussex in Ealing

Not a great experience! Unfortunately my 83 year old mum's special Christmas lunch was rather spoilt by being put on a draughty table on the edge of the restaurant because we had brought a small toy poodle with us, even though the restaurant area remained almost empty during the whole time we were there. - 2.30pm to 4pm. I had previously been to the restaurant with the same dog and sat on a banquette table with a view of the kitchen! Unfortunately, this Sunday when we arrived we were seated on a table near the exit. I asked if we could sit on the banquette tables (all empty except one) and was told by the rather frosty receptionist that because we had a small dog and had not 'said when booking' we had to sit on this very cold and uncomfortable table as it was 'the furthest from the kitchen'. The corner banquette table is actually further away and I explained that I had sat quite close to the kitchen before with the same dog. I booked online where it clearly says 'dog friendly' and was not asked if we were bringing a dog. My mum had come from North Herefordshire for a Christmas weekend and ended up with a view of the pub exit (the door was open so she had to wear her coat during our meal). I had a view of the gents toilet - see photo. Our meal was ok, the starters were nice. Mum's beef was rather tough so we brought it home in a doggy bag! Just to say, that during the time we were were there, a large, white German Shepherd actually came into the restaurant with its owner and disappeared into the kitchen for several minutes before coming out and returning to the pub! I did ask the staff if we could move several times but was told that it was 'the law' that we had to sit where we were and that 'if a government inspector' came in we would be 'breaking the law' if we were sitting at a different table! We spent £128 including the £14 plus tip but won't be doing this again. Very disappointing and a bit upsetting as it was meant to be a treat. I think the 'dog friendly' statement on the website is very misleading!!

Christmas meal with friends. We had to wait extremely long to be served. Although tapas were very good, the mains disappointed us all over. The wait was too long, we ordered drinks which we never got, overall experience was way below expectations

Incredible Pub. The ambience is top! The only downside was the toilets. There was a leak and the whole place smelled like pee everytime someone opened the door :/

Fantastic food in a really nice pub

The dining experience would’ve been great but it was marred by poor service of the young Sunday brunch receptionist. She insisted there were no available seats for my friend and me, despite the backyard clearly having open tables. When I went back there and was kindly accommodated by the staff, the receptionist seemed visibly displeased. This kind of service detracts from an otherwise fantastic pub experience. Better training for your receptionists would help ensure the warm, welcoming atmosphere matches the quality of your food. Additional edit in response to the management’s reply below: Thank you for the response and for your commitment to guest experience. However, I just wanted to share that, unfortunately, the said receptionist turned us away yesterday, opposite to what you just said below. This experience yesterday didn’t reflect what you’ve described.

We came for sunday lunch and shared the chicken ham hock and leek pie for 2 which was really exceptional, soo good. Friends had the pork belly roast and said it was perfect. Generous portion sizes. All the staff were lovely and the service overall, excellent.

I need to come back again for the tapas.

Regular Sunday visitors to The Duke of Sussex. Always a great time there. The food is amazing, served very quickly and is always hot. Particular thanks to server Nikola who always polite and efficient. I can thoroughly reccomend this gem of a pub. Keep up the good work Team Duke. Thanks, Russell

We had the best night out with friends and family, great service, cold drinks, amzing food, a massive thankyou to Ugne and the team.

We booked based on menu displayed on line that menu was not available. A limited menu with 2 vegetarian options, 2 fish and one meat( meatballs) was available. We choose the fish and chips which had more batter than fish, and the batter was soggy. Based on the main course we decided not have desert. The whole experience was charmless. If this is the norm not surprised there were so few dinners.

La carne asada era perfecta que tuvimos después de haber compartido un plato de calamares también delicioso. La comida de los niños fue más que suficiente para nuestro pequeño y todos compartimos la pizca de helado de canela. El servicio era impecable también. ¡Llevo viniendo aquí unos 20 años y aún así estar decepcionado!

Low quality food. We ordered a variety of things and none of them was good but the Basque cheesecake was the worst. 4 people we couldnt finish 1 single slice of cheesecake because there was one bucket full of sugar in it. Never tasted anything more sweet than that in my life. Drank 2 liters of water all night.

Had a lovely afternoon here but have memories of better food from before. Were hoping to share a seafood paella but it was very underwhelming both in size and quality. Tomato bread on the other hand was overwhelmed with garlic. It is still a fantastic pub with great feels and so I would still recommend.

Beautiful pub; fantastic garden. But sadly - dinner was really lacking.

I don't think the chef checks the food before throwing salt, lots and lots of salt on it. A real shame. Also they don't close at 12 they close at 11:30 a real pet peeve for me where somewhere claims to be a pub.

I had the beef filet with truffle mashed potatoes, which was delicious, along with the grilled fish dish that was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The meal ended with a divine molten chocolate cake. There was also a wide selection of beverages, including beer, fresh fruit juices, alcoholic drinks, and coffee. The service was quick and efficient, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for a relaxed evening!

Where to start, apart from recommendations... The atmosphere is a 10, very nice service, the food is simply amazing. We arrived at this place on the first evening of our stay in this city and were immediately provided with a great memory. Respect also to the waiter Joshua. We ordered capers, but we didn't know this word in English, his attempt to explain what it was made our whole trip :) Thank you very much and we highly recommend coming, we will be happy to visit you again. Food was good, very friendly and quick service

The most delicious Fish & Chips I have ever eaten, wonderful atmosphere inside, warm and cozy and you can listen to British music. The waiter was very nice (greetings to Joshua) 🇬🇧🇵🇱

Dropped in for a drink on Friday early evening after sport. Extremely hard to get served even though not all staff occupied. Only 2 bitters available which I did not recognise. Barman recommended house bitter which he served us 3 pints of. Was the end of the barrel and the drink was cloudy and off. None left apparently so not possible to change barrel. So opted for the 1 remaining bitter which was extremely light, fruity and fizzy, not at all what you would want from a pint of bitter. As I waited to be served for another round (had to go for lager) a guy at the bar said to me 'The problem with Greene King pubs is they are always understaffed'. I was amazed that this was a Greene King. They have some of the best bitters around and yet can't serve a decent one. Won't be going back in a hurry.

The Duke of Sussex opposite Acton Green serves a fine pint of beer. Plenty of room, high ceilings and a pleasant environment. Good service from the staff. A fair selection of beers to choose from, both keg and cask. There is an expansive patio garden to the rear with plenty of seating for all. Good place for a beer, also solids (not tried), including Sunday Lunches.

A great pub with good food, beer, wine and spirits. The garden is delightfull, as are the staff and management.

Siempre me ha encantado este pub y tratar de comer allí cuando estoy en Londres! Tiene un menú inteligente de tapas españolas para empezar y platos principales - asados especiales en domingo. Compartimos las aceitunas y los pimientos padrón que eran fabulosos con la sal ahumada y también el aguacate a la parrilla con pico de gallo que fue memorable. Mis amigos tenían el pollo entero que dijeron que estaba bien barbacoa y bien especiado y jugoso pollo en una ensalada de grano. Tomé el filete de onglet con chimichurri y fue maravilloso. Buen vino coronado con una noche encantadora. Buena comida de pub.

Great pub just a ten minute stroll from my house. Excellent staff who always make me feel welcome and at home. Good food, nice range of drinks and a nice view of the park. What's not to like?

Brilliant, can not fault this place. Chose the Duke of Sussex after visiting Kew. Ambiance late evening in the garden was spot on, service was friendly and prompt the food was exactly what we were hoping for. Streaks cooked on the grill perfectly, salads, sardines so tasty and succulent. Left very happy.

Typical English pub but serves Spanish cuisine, food frankly disappointing in flavor but what left us perplexed was the arrogant and unpolite attitude of the waitress who with a silly smile told us that we looked like children in kindergarten because we weren't fast enough Terrible behavior when ordering food and drinks. we definitely won't be returning

Mine and my colleagues’ Thursday local. The food is always delicious, the service great and a range of drinks to choose from. Cosy, rustic atmosphere inside and a big and gorgeous beer garden. Love it

Superb pub with Spanish cuisine tapas and BBQ in the extensive delightful beer garden

We go here twice a week as we live next door. It’s very nice however lately they started to bring food very late (within 1 hr) and recent incident was not pleasant.we were at the table that was reserved for 7:30 pm. We were going to leave by than but the person showed up 15 min early instead of saying “table isn’t ready” to the person. the waitress kicked us off from the table despite it was raining we were outside, my baby was still eating his food and his food came 45 min late. They shouldn’t have given the table 15 min early. Every restaurant would make the person wait if they came earlier than their reservation time. They wouldn’t just kick some other customer out of the table. They lost a loyal customer as a result. This is unacceptable treatment. Never gonna spend any penny here again. Will go to the Swans instead which is just behind it. Until they make the pub nice again like it used to be.

How sad must be to work in that kitchen... The Duke of Bluffing should be called... I am sure their tapas are not worth a penny !

Amazing food and great service for a group of 20 people!

Went with my partner for some food and drinks, great service, very friendly staff however the food was terrible, not tasty at all 2 of the dishes were soo over Salted we had to spit it back out when my partner and I tried it, also there was not much taste to much of what we ordered, wasn't offered any refund for it since we didn't even eat it nor anything to make up for it which was surprising. However other than that everything was great.

Nice environment, very friendly staff and delicious food.

Nice place but on the evening we visited the food was a disaster. The fish was dreadful. The burgers were sloppy. Acting manager refunded the cost of the fish meal. Next evening our friend went to complain again and we were given a money voucher for another visit. Wine at £32 a bottle was overpriced for what you got. Our previous visit was great. So it is a bit of a pot luck venue for me.

Long waiting for food, but waitresses was caring

Definitely a 5 stars pub. Big and airy with plenty of space in the drinking area. A fine function room and a comfortable garden. The food experience was great. Out of the usual pub grabs. Some of the dishes were absolutely stunning. Perfect for a date dinner, an afternoon drink or a Sunday lunch. Sport in screen if you really can’t do without but no annoying at all.

Great pub. Nice and quiet area, great bar and dining area and an even better beer garden. Bar staff were also very personable and attentive.

Amazing tapas, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. The ham hock terrine was the best I have ever had and the basque cheesecake is reason enough to return!

Although we enjoyed our time at the pub , we are amazed at how much one round cost us. Yes we are from the North but still the increase was amazing. 2 x fish and chips, one Falafel, one guiness, one wine and double G and T (Bombay sapphire) was £96 I did query it but was told it was right. . So for price reasons won't be going back. Your response does not really explain how a rose wine, a guiness and a double G&T came to £44.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to The Duke of Sussex. One of my best friends treated us to fish and chips a double G&T (Bombay Sapphire), rose wine and a Guinness. I did steal his lemon and had a nibble of his wife's falafel which tasted Devine. You get what you pay for, similar to the Post Office. Thank you!

Visited this place on a couple of occasions previously and it looks like they've changed their food menu slightly. I remember them serving other tapas items such as ham croquettes, patatas bravas, but this time they weren't there. Nonetheless still great options if you want a mixture of classic pub food to tapas. Really unique dishes available as well as drinks choices! I've always noticed their seafood paella is often a sell-out!

This is a great pub. The main food menu is consistently high quality with a Spanish influence and they also do a nice Sunday roast. The staff are great and the Sunday eve quiz is super fun.

Good pub near station. San Michael’s good. Outdoor area good. Welcome to London if you want to complain in paying +£20 for 3 pints!

It's best to make a reservation on the weekends, but there's a good chance you can get a table outside without a reservation. Sunday roast is the orthodox type, but the roasted potatoes with rosemary are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, making it very delicious. The Spanish tapas menu is extensive, so I would like to order that next time. I think the variety of alcohol available is better than other pubs around here. Especially gin and wine. Perhaps because of the name Duke of Sussex, there was a beer on tap called ``Harry's bitter,'' which is a play on Prince Harry. Alcohol content is 3.9% as "as weak as possible". English joke works.

This once-excellent local gastropub is starting to slip. The prices have increased, the kitchen is incredibly slow, and the food is tired. Sadly, it's time to look elsewhere. Beautiful old pub with plenty of seating in their lovely garden, too. Pretty kid-friendly on the weekends .

This impressive Victorian pub provides a relaxed environment (with a touch of glitz) in its spacious bar and restaurant, and large leafy garden. The menu draws upon classic British and Spanish traditional cuisine, and includes tantalisingly tasty tapas and delicious main courses. An interesting selection of craft ales, and the extensive wine list offers lots of choice. Service is welcoming and highly responsive.

One of the best pubs in Chiswick! I was there for a Sunday roast and it was one of the best roasts I’ve had! The service is top too and super friendly and accommodating stuff. Highly recommended

Lovely pub with a very nice Spanish cuisine. You can privatise a large room for about 60 people, which is really great. The terrace is amazing if you have a large party. The staff was incredibly discreet, efficient and friendly. Lovely experience!

Have been here quite a lot over the years but never sat down to eat in the restaurant. Weekday lunchtime was nice and chilled and the food and service were excellent. Go for the Onglet Steak - banging.

I had the great pleasure of attending a function here and it was an altogether wonderful experience. Tapas were served and the quality was very good. The service was cordial and efficient. The atmosphere built as the evening drew in and it was an entirely enjoyable occasion. Many thanks to the staff for enabling this so well.

This pub on the borders of Acton and Chiswick was revisited recently after a long break, when the Spanish-accented food itself was perfectly acceptable and tasty, but the service was just as slow as we had remembered it before. We sat at table at 12.30 and were finally served at 1.15 after the server had mis-heard my wife's order of a seafood paella when further time had been needed to prepare it. As the single server had both the restaurant and the bar to contend with one took a view that understaffing was a continuing source of delay.....hence the relative markdown.

Oklahoma music dinner! I wanted to thank all the staff esp Nikola, Ugne, James and Borgas for the best evening on Monday. I brought 46 guests. Mussels with cider and chilli, amazing: steak with pepper corn sauce, amazing: pate and focaccia, perfect. Tortilla, amazing. Cured meats great. Service was welcoming and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Do try the Sancerre if you visit. NF.

I spent a dinner here with a couple of friends. I was very satisfied with all we got. I'll check back when I can.

We had the best time at the Duke of Sussex. We pre-order some sharing tapas which was so delicious! And had the most friendly staff! What an amazingly night in a beautiful pub. A big shout out to Ugne, Pesi, James and Cal, who went out this way to make a really special night for my mum. We’ll be back!

I love this place, food, service is great, each time I'm coming back from holiday I'm extending my Spanish mood ;-) definitely recomend. Very good Sunday roast as well.

Delicious steak and bone marrow pie!

I am so pleased to share this review about the Duke of Sussex as it is my super favorite spot in Chiswick! I was a frequent customer prior to lockdown, and they never disappointed me and my entire family! Post LOCKDOWN - they only got BETTER! The Beer Garden is spacious, beautiful and accommodating at the same time. As a vegetarian, I am delighted with the choices in the new menu - the Paella is AMAZING!!!!!! Last, but surely not the least - the Staff - my absolute favorite ever. The warmth, friendliness and love is so welcoming, it hits home! It is definitely worth a visit!! :)

Nice fish and chips. My husband really liked the beer. The waitress was really nice and helpful with the menu. I didn’t like the music and the rest rooms. I also find it a bit expensive.

This is a lovely pub just off Acton green. Spacious and airy, a good drinks selection served by super friendly staff. Didn't try the food but would on another occasion. Very good, well worth visiting.
