Spotless Chippy! I often visit here when In Inverneshire as I stay in a hotel nearby and the food is pants! And this more than makes up for it 😎

The Royal Fish Bar Grantown-on-Spey Went in there for dinner with my partner only for him to be rudely kicked out with other customers there quotes "YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!" due to an incident that happened well over 2 years ago!! I find this very unprofessional on their part and will no longer be going there!!

Chips average and portions very small. The lady with the grey hair who serves needs to find a new job. We have been in twice over the past two weeks and each time she is moaning and complaining to the young counter staff who also work in the shop. It’s not nice to hear how she treats the staff.

Quick friendly staff. Vegetarian box was amazing and also gave extra as we don’t like mushrooms!

Visited whilst staying locally. Good prompt and friendly service. Fish, chips and mushy peas were both good. Worth a try.

In the 10+ years we’ve lived in the area we’ve always headed to this chippy for our fish n chips. We’ve never been disappointed, that is until 2 weeks ago. We ordered 2 fish suppers expecting it to be haddock, sadly it wasn’t, whatever it was it was disgusting. It was so bad I couldn’t eat it. It’s wasn’t soft and flakey like haddock and to say it tasted fishy is an understatement. Instead of asking for “fish suppers” I should have asked for haddock and chips, perhaps the nice server would have told me they weren’t frying haddock that day. 🤷🏼‍♀️ For the first time even the chips were bad, like they’d been cooked and left for hours, despite the fact it was 1230 and the shop had not long opened. Sadly looks like we’ll be looking for a new eatery, we’re not going to drive 46 miles to buy an inedible meal.

Food was excellent and good portion sizes, one of the best curry sauces i have had. Only criticism was there were too many black eyes in the chips, otherwise chips were so fluffy and very tasty. Very clean shop and friendly staff. Will definitely eat from there again 😋

Haggis and chips, absolutely brilliant, friendly staff, cooked fresh while you wait. Next time I pass through definitely stopping again . Highly recommend.

Lady serving was standoffish and rude. Was just passing through and looking for a bite to eat. She told me they didn’t even have fresh lemon for my fish, just vinegar. No other explanation, just treated me like she didn’t want me there and wasn’t worth her time. Ordered a spring roll, expecting just your normal spring g roll but instead got a curry? Type one. Only saving grace was the fish was nice. Would have been better with lemon

Stopped at the Royal Fish bar in Grantown on spey and had the worst Haddock and chips I have ever eaten. I come from a fishing town and have eaten some lovely award winning fish suppers but tonight 1st June 2023 the fish was terrible. The batter was thick and gluppy and the flesh of the Haddock was grey and smelly infact I had one bite and dumped the rest. This fish must have been frozen for years or left too long before freezing and certainly was not fresh but rancid. The chips were OK but will never eat fish again from the Royal Fish bar at Grantown on spey.

Best breaded haddock in the country. A hidden gem.

We popped in for chips after a long cycle ride. Really great chips🍟 and yummy pickled onion. Perfectly cooked and generous serving in lovely packaging! Super pit stop during an active day on the bike or walking adventure. The shop was sparkly clean too. Definitely recommend✨️

Used to be good but the quality has dropped off a bit recently, old and hard chips, chewy batter, they need to be doing stuff fresh and not have things sitting for so long.

Absolutely spot on!! 👌 Delicious fish, lovely batter, not greasy at all. Chips were fab and the curry sauce and the gravy were awesome. Loved our tea from here tonight. If you are in the area it's a must try.

Consistently very good, but sometimes exceptional. I've been loyal to the royal for many years. Yet to find a local chippy that comes close.

Live out in countryside side phone in my order ever time and the service is very good and never had bad meal and the lads in the shop are next to none always have time for chat .

Stopped in tonight for a couple of fish suppers and pickled eggs. The fish was superb and the chips and the eggs! Fish was perfectly cooked, great service too!

Was looking for somewhere to get something to eat as we passed through the town and called at this fish-bar because it appeared to have the best reviews, my wife had a red puddling supper and I a fish supper. My wife reports her meal was average and on par with what you'd get at most fish-bars. I had a fish supper, lord knows how long the fish lain after having been cooked and before being placed in my order, at best it could be described as soggy, limp and tepid as opposed to hot, certainly not as hot as the accompanying chips nor the piece of red puddling given to me by my wife so I at least had something to eat. I'm sorry I couldn't recommend this place and will avoid it in future when staying in the area.

Lovely staff at the fish and chip shop. However I must admit that the food is subpar at best. The main of you meal, as other reviewers have said will be sat there for far to long. I myself opted for the chips and cheese, what a mistake! the chips were "just" cooked, and the cheese (what little there was) was tastless. In my opinion give this place a dodge.

Popped in for a quick takeaway. Chips were awful and woman serving drowned them in vinegar. Wish we had gone to a different chip shop. Cod was tiny, greasy over cooked stale batter.

Absolutely appalling order various sppers and 3 of items no chips but charged disgrace caused a big family argument because children had no chips.

Sorry but after trying other fish and chips (poppies of london) this doesnt stand up for me. The food had clearly been sat for a while and you could actually "ring" out the oil from the fish. Not for me.

As other reviewers have stated the food had been sat for a bit too long for my tatse. It was to the pont where the sausage was like rubber and the chips just not very good. Maybe try refresh your food more or cook to order more, just because you can keep your food that long doesnt mean you should.

Garlic mayo was the best part of the meal, the batter on the fish was flat, the fish itself was wafer thin. Given the quality of food provided the prices are ridiculous. Topping it off half the order was missing. Try somewhere else.

unfortunately the food for me had been sat for a while, maybe a bit too long. As others have said the staff are very friendly especially the nice older chef gentleman but try cook food fresh if possible.

Not sure if i just caught them on an off day or something, but the food was terrible! as a previous reviewer stated, the chips had been there for a while.... also the fish had more bones in it than i do.

Me and my family had a day trip to gran town on spey and had lunch at the royal fish bar. To be honest, not the best. The chips had clearly been sat for a while and the fish was full of bones.

Sadly it wasn't worth 1 star it was the worst fish and chips we have ever had , totally inedible disgusting went in the bin . but can recommend the speyside fish and chips just down the road .

The Royal Fish Bar is absolutely brilliant. The food is cooked fresh and the twice cooked chips are a thing of wonder, complementing the succulent fish and light & crunchy batter. The team behind the counter are fantastic, unquestionably welcoming and great at what they do. Thank you.

Great service but disappointing quality of the cod. The pieces of fish were smaller than expected but, more importantly, we had to throw away half of each serving as it was inedible (wouldn't break apart under our forks).

had 2 suppers takeaway last night chips were warm not hot sausage batter was chewy and not crispy chicken fillets again batter chewy wouldn't go back my partner and myself were disappointed with the quality of our takeaways

Myself and my friend had smoked sausage and chips with curry sauce tonight and it was amazing, the amount of chips you get is so much , very tasty.

Oh dear! If I could give it no stars I would. The one star is for the young lass who served me. Even the mushy peas were inedible. It went in the bin. The first time in my life I've binned a fish supper!!!!

We stopped off for fish & chips before leaving Grantown at the end of our holiday. The couple who ran the place were warm , friendly and very welcoming. The food was excellent and we left the town happy.

Clear covid guidance. Friendly helpful staff, food was nice. Will bear it in mind for next time through.

Popped in enroute home to Aberdeenshire for a fish supper and a white pudding supper. Absolutely delicious. Great portion size. Best chip supper we've had for a long time. Just wish we lived closer!

We popped in for 2 portions of chips with pickles and s pickled egg. Chips were a good size portion hot and fine.

We ate here a couple of times and can only say as far as fish & chips go the food was absolutely excellent, the staff were friendly and Covid-19 rules were correctly in operation.

Decent place,fast and efficient. Food is OK, and does the job when in a pinch
