The George in Croydon

Convenient place to meet friends. A surprisingly good selection of guest ales. Cheap beer and food. By late afternoon the gents toilet was a mess. Obviously a very popular place as it was packed.

I wanted one more egg after having previous one. And they’ve said it’s annoying. Absolutely not acceptable manners.

I went to drink a couple of times ! And each time i had a great time ! Unfortunatly i never tried food so can not review it as i focused on drinking !

I didn't eat but I can imagine it's very much like any other spoons food. Staff were friendly and helpful. I noticed they hid the Christmas cocktails menu but I basically live in my local spoons so I know what they had, plus the app helps. Third time back, I still enjoy the visit.

No problem to try before you buy a real ale due to the company's connections with CAMRA. I enjoyed a real ale and was impressed with how the staff talk to their customers: very friendly.

Christmas lunch without the Christmas lunch. Was nice but they were sold out of Christmas dinners. Thought I would test them by ordering the chicken and stuffing burger basically everything more or less from the Christmas dinner by vegetables and the potatoes being roasted instead of chipped and surprise surprise. However not being ungrateful because it was lovely having a meal and probably the nearest I will be getting to a Christmas dinner this year thank you Nigel Collins for the lovely surprise and treat, baby babe Racey Rach

Best Wetherspoons yet. Pleasantly surprised. Was busy at 5.45 on weekday and had a short wait for a table. Good atmosphere though, very efficient staff and tables we kept clear and very tidy. Ordering on the app was very easy. Had a very good mixed grill and very decent and madly cheap good cider.

Average weatherspoons, kind regulars, service depends on who serves you at the bar, can be amazing but also can be rude.

A bit rowdy but cheap and cheerful.

For me always exceptional.... I got alot of ideas sipping strawberry lime ciders in there man.... hopefully I'll visit in time... always love... peace out.

I used to go to this pub quite a lot before I went clubbing in Croydon and really loved it. Today, I ordered some food and drink via their app and was surprised just how quick I got served. Great going, you guys and gals. During a recent visit, it turned out that one of the bars had a technical fault and was forced to close. Issues like that can't be helped, but I think the staff working that day did handle the situation professionally and were polite to it to customers. I take my hat off to these staff members and can't fault them for it.

You might be asked to do the covid thing at the door but you won't be harassed by angry covid Nazis If anyone anywhere asks you to scan a qr code you can take a picture on your phone and delete it later hope this helps. :edit: nov 2024 It's seriously gone down hill, the only pub in croydon where the bartenders are guaranteed not to give you any eye contact or human acknowledgement

Great food, even better atmosphere and a nice vibe.

Convenient place where food is served fast; atmosphere acceptable and I think its main purpose is for meeting people having an affordable meal and that’s the other strength -the food is not gourmet but cheap. Having said the food is not gourmet their breakfast is the best available in the area. I think this is because they’ve had the opportunity to test everything that tested the Bacon they’ve tested the sausages and made sure that they are really tasty.

Excellent atmosphere. Friendly staff. Just one guy he works there a little bit unfriendly. Otherwise, everything is great 👍

2nd time here in past few week's and again they've only got 2 of the 6 cask beers on. Fish & chips for tea. Fish was small, over cooked and dry. Mushy peas and chips were OK.

Went all the way to Wembley for the England match. Past all the food places. Came all the way back to Croydon for a juicy steak.

Pub legato alla catena Wetherspoon che permette di avere accesso a birre ad un prezzo decisamente competitivo e non solo visto il quartiere, Croydon, dato che anche in altre zone la media dei prezzi si abbassa. Ottima la "English breakfast" che ho consumato come brunch per un paio di giorni di fila a meno di 5 sterline, accompagnata da birre artigianali inserite in rotazione durante una delle tante iniziative che la catena fa per proporre nuove birre "ospiti". Durante il mio soggiorno mi sono fermato anche per una cena dove abbiamo fatto una scorpacciata di fritti e pizze andando di nuovo incontro ad una spesa davvero contenuta. Il locale era pienissimo, era un sabato sera, ma nonostante questo il servizio è stato rapido ed impeccabile come verso l'ora di pranzo quando la clientela, seppur numerosa, era certamente inferiore. Certamente consigliato per gruppi numerosi e famiglie, anche per contenere un po' i costi; magari l'aria non è quella del classico pub polveroso e di periferia, si è sicuramente in una location più tarata su turismo e ristorazione rapida e quindi la qualità non è quella di altri posti, ma il rapporto con il prezzo è assolutamente eccellente.

This pub was my local It's generally OK As a Guinness drinker I have drank in pubs in England and Ireland This is the only one I have ever met that regularly as in every few months runs out of Guinness Tonight 11/11/24 it's happened again Have had to walk around and found a nice pub that assures me it has never ran out of Guinness and would borrow a keg from a neighbouring pub if it did to keep their regulars happy So adios The George

The beer selection is large and there are very good options, depending on your taste. We had dinner with fish and chips, jacket potatoes and two side dishes. Unfortunately the jacket potato with cheese arrived cold and the cheese was cold and not even cooked. The two side dishes were very small, a couple of bites and they are gone. The place is still beautiful and crowded with local people, but the consumption is purely alcoholic and not food. Prices in general very fair.

I like Wetherspoons, and this is one of the nicest I've been in. Lovely cosy atmosphere, with lots of wood panelling. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Cheap and cheerful. Staff could clear and clean tables more often. Good (revolving) range of beers. Their mobile app means no need to queue at the bar, which, with a dodgy hip, is a bonus!

Delicious food, clean, a bit cramped. Still, it's worth it, because it's an old English style place with good beer.

The place is good. A big area for you and your friends. Food is nice and the beer is cold most of the time. However, I think it is because of the carpet but smells a little bit Ew there but you get used to it. Sometimes it can be noisy and there is no good music playing but it is more my personal opinion.

The George is a weatherspoons pub, so an alcoholic, drink or soft drink is included with your meal. The sirloin steak is absolutely fabulous, well cooked and as ordered. It can be a bit busy at times but, that just adds to the atmosphere.

The bar staff seem to pay zero attention to who's at the bar waiting to be served. They spend their time talking to each other, clearing empty glasses from the bar. There were only 2 of us waiting to be served with 3 bar staff, we were both ignored. The other guy eventually got served ( though I was there 1st). I waited 5 mins to see if they would serve me. They didn't, so I left, never to return.

It was my 1st time visiting the UK. I was looking for a place to have a drink and a burger. This place was cozy, and the staff was friendly. I really enjoyed it. Being from the US, I expected bigger portions and more variety, but I won't complain.

Good beers. Cheap. Food nice. Good real ale or craft beers. What would be great is that all the other reviewers could get the name of the company right. It's Wetherspoon's or J D Wetherspoon. Not Weatherspoon's. Literacy in this country is shocking. Try reading some of the books on the shelves here for practice.

Shocking experience with customers. Crackling heads smoking outside at the tables and the guy beat up a passerby. I am sure the food is great but not safe

Way too much swearing going on did not feel safe.

Popped in as the rain was absolutely pouring down. Ended up having a burger, chips and a pint of stella all for under £7 come on everyone, what's not to like.....oh yeah

I have not been in here for ages and was feeling peckish after work. Had a pizza and a great bear from Mad Squirrel Brewery, which I have not had since visiting their Brewery tap in St Albans.

Went to The George to watch the mens Wimbledon final with my husband, got a seat and table straight away. Had a lovely afternoon enjoying the tennis and having drinks and chatting to people around us a very friendly pub.

The pub is nice. Not had the food (that's why no rating) but their ladies toilets are terrible. If I could put a minus rating.... I would

Vastly improved after bumpy influx of displaced staff from the other closed Croydon Spoons. Now generally excellent range of interesting real ales - Oakham for example, as well as the usual Spoons suspects. And general running of the pub, including clearing of tables and food availability much better.

Just came back from Croydon went in to the George for breakfast got my toast as ordered with no butter or knife went to the bar to ask for my butter and knife the lady came back with the butter but no knife had to ask where my knife was by the time I got that my toast was cold well I do like warm toast went in two days later and my toast was like in Watford burnt black does does the staff in Weatherspoons in general not know how to do toast ??

All the staff were amazing but I want to thank Joel, Mark, Sean and another female worker (didn’t get her name) in particular for making us feel protected and safe. I’m extremely grateful. I met two friends there for drinks a couple of days ago and when I arrived there were two very drunk guys we didn’t know sitting with them. One of the guys was all over me and the staff were extremely attentive and caring. We were at the bar and when he went toilet the bartender immediately asked me if I knew him and if I felt safe (this is within 10 minutes of my arrival) and throughout my time there multiple staff members kept asking me if I was okay and whether I felt safe. We had a great time and the Wetherspoons staff ensured that for us so thank you.

Nice wetherspoons pub centre of Croydon. Very busy, food was hot and pleasantly served by overworked staff.

Great choice of veggie good. Really inexpensive food and drink. Always busy with a good mix of people. Fantastic friendly. Quorn katsu curry has 8 nuggets £8.66 with an alcohol drink such good value. And the good old 5 bean curry is still great. Simple jacket potatoes and beans. Nice and soft. Nothing fussy.

Hit and miss with breakfasts sometime hot or cold,thou service is quick.

Had the worst meal that I have ever been served anywhere in my life. Large mixed grill with an egg that looked like it was made for a display in a museum. All the meat must have been left on the grill by the person in the kitchen (I’m not saying chef or cook) and was burnt to a crisp and then displayed burnt side down. Always worrying when you order a jacket and then find 1 solitary chip on the plate. Everything was either cold or burnt apart from the onion rings and jacket. Did my best as we’d already ordered drinks that didn’t arrive. My advice, don’t order a mixed grill at a spoons, there’s too much that can go wrong.

Visited during a crystal palace game and the place was booming. Nice staff , loads of room and affordable.

Great Food. Unlimited Refills. Many Dauces to pick from. Nice Booths surrounded by books, hence be quick as they get very busy, and seating is hard to come by. Witherspoon used to be cheaper, so sad bit is the price increase. Portions are large, food is hot, it is mostly pre-cooked and fried, yet it does taste nice. Staff is very friendly, and work very hard, as they get very busy.

Good beer and food. When going for real ale, always check both bars as they don't stock identidal ales. Very handy for the George Street tram stop.

Great big pub in the heart of croydon, big menu with lots of options and service really good.

I went on a Saturday night...the place was very crowded, a lot of people in the pub! Authentic British atmosphere! We served the classic fish and chips which was delicious, fresh! The Halloumi grill portion was not very good, it was too smoked! It is worth trying such food in their pubs!
