The Magna Tandoori in Northumberland

Went for a take away, been looking forward to one for weeks! Ordered king prawn masala. It’s got about 5 tiny prawns in it, nothing else but 5 small prawns and sauce! No veg nothing else. Very sugary and coconuty, horrid You can see the video for yourself. Cost about £13 excluding rice! Terrible.

Brinjal bhaji and veg dupiaza great. But chicken tikka masala doesn't work with a kilo of sugar.

This is without doubt the friendliest restaurant in Northumberland. The Khan brothers pride themselves on their attentive service and treat guests as if they were family. You will be served wonderful food from the most wonderful staff. The Khan brothers have been commended for their benevolence and their support of those in need. I visited this restaurant during a trip abroad several years ago. Indian cuisine is my favorite and needless to say I had it several times during this particular trip throughout England. This restaurant was my favorite! Fantastic food with very kind staff. I haven’t been in years but I think about this place often, which really says something!

I always feels fine eating at the Magna Tandoori. The food is very good and the service friendly and efficient. I always come back.

One of my favourite restaurants in Berwick upon Tweed, have had many take outs from here and they have always been excellent.

Visited last night, food was absolutely amazing and really well priced particularly for the vegetarian mains. All the staff were really friendly and we had a great chat with the guy who took our order who was recommending things to do in Berwick. Great veggie options as well. Was a bit on the quiet side, presumably because it was a Thursday in November, but it's clearly well liked in the area as there were a lot of people coming in to pick up orders.

Amazing food and kind staff. Have been going for years, would never choose to go to another Indian restaurant. Simply the best.

Really fabulous Indian cuisine with a huge menu, lots of vegetarian options and great service. A surprising find for Berwick but a great lunch stop!

The food does not meet as real Indian dishes. Curries were very sweet. It could be made better eventhough the dishes are meant for English peoples. They do like real Indian dishes not amended ones.

Food ok,had better & worse. Wanted a delivery just a mile away but they couldn't really be bothered although it says delivery.got bus to collect & service in restaurant was good.probably try somewhere else next time

Can't fault the food or service. We enjoyed every mouthful - chicken jalfrezi, beef biryani, tikka masala. Real food cooked with care to a very high standard. Nice relaxing atmosphere, comfortable with great decor, very impressive. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Looking forward to another visit.

First time visiting while we were on holiday in the area. Absolutely amazing quality food, full of flavour, and the portion sizes were just right. Was stuffed when we had finished. Very reasonable prices aswell. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area and look forward to coming back in the near future.

Went last night and really didn’t enjoy it. I’ve got to start by saying I’ve had so many curries in Yorkshire in authentic, fantastic restaurants that I’ve been a bit spoilt but I felt this wasn’t even average. It all started when I called to book a table and that didn’t go well. We turned up and were sat in a corner in a dark room which was a bit strange looking. The only thing I could smell was burnt food. My starter was poorly presented and the wooden platter the plate was on left grease all over the table when it was cleared away, so much so I had to clean the table with my napkin. Our main dishes weren’t much better. My other half had the chicken masala which came out covered in a red sauce which looked radioactive. It was laden with sugar and coconut. My lamb was chewy and dry. Very much over done, and was served on a sizzling skillet…. There was so much hissing and smoke coming from it, the guy at the next table asked if I needed a fire extinguisher!! This morning I found my hat and coat which were over the chair to my right in the restaurant were stained from all the grease that was flung up in the steam and our clothes were stinking. The rice was quite nice, the naan not bad but the chips were poor, just cheap frozen catering chips. All in all we felt that we should have tried the other curry house in the town. We will go back to Berwick but sadly we will not return to the Magna. Oh… let end on a positive. The toilets were nipping clean. Seriously, they must be about the best facilities I’ve seen in a curry house in a long time.

Enjoyed the fixed price lunch there. Great service and good food.

Delicious food, great value, and welcoming staff. I came back again the following day, and had a nice chat with the waiter Suleiman!

After telephoning for a takeaway to it to be collected at 6:30 pm I arrived promptly to pick the meal up . When I got home which was no more than five minutes away , I found that the meal was Luke warm , the onion bhajis were the worst I have ever eaten, cold and the rest of the meal was not much better. I suspect that it had been prepared much earlier than the arranged pick up time as it was on the counter in a carrier bag ready for collection. To say I was disappointed is an understatement and I will never give the restaurant my business again.

Brilliant Food as always. Very professional staff and brilliant atmosphere. Will be back time and time again. Fab food!

We often get takeaways from here but thought it would be nice to sit in for a change in the holidays. It was a nice atmosphere, the staff were friendly and it was really good service. The food was amazing and will definitely be back soon. We are very lucky to have this restaurant in our town. Would highly recommend

Fabulous restauraunt. Just what you want from an Indian - very knowledgeable and able to cater for any dietry requirements or alterations to dishes. Very nice inside and plenty of seating, and easy to park close by. Curries are full of flavour, just what you expect - the Vindaloo was properly hot!

The food was great, really enjoyed it. Don't normally have starter and main but glad we did as potion size was on the small size. But having said that it was all very scummy £60 bill , 2 starters 2 mains 1 nan and a bottle of wine 😍

My wife and I have been holidaying in Berwick for many years. We have visited Magna Tandoori several times for lunch and I am afraid we will not be back. I ordered chicken pakora as a starter and it was not good, large pieces of batter with very little chicken.

Akber and the team were truly attentive which made our dining experience exceptional. The cookery of all the dishes is fantastic and made this restaurant a hidden gem especially in a coastal town where there is not much happening. We loved it so much that we went back twice in two days in a row during our visit. Highly recommend!

I had three veggie side dishes as I’m vegetarian but they were not very tasty. The curried vegetables seem to be mainly cabbage. Not very imaginative.

Affordable. Relaxed atmosphere. Lovely staff. Good food. Food was served really quickly. Good sized portions. There were 3 of us (average sized females), and we shared a curry, a kurma, 2 types of rice, and 2 pieces of bread (a naan and a parata) and we struggled to finish the food. Good experience all in all.

Absolutely superb in every way. This restaurant is a visual delight, only surpassed by the wonderful food and the impeccable service. We have been dining here for many years and are always welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness. Beautiful restaurant run by beautiful people. 💕

Please, try this place. I absolutely loved it. The most tender chicken and lamb for Andrea. I had the King Prawns, easy to overcook, but they were brilliant. Staff love a chat and and laugh. The Bombay Cycle IPA is hidden away, ask for it, it is a great accompaniment to the food. Thanks Guys. Ace.

Four of us went for a meal on the spur of the moment, I must say it turned out to be an excellent decision. The service was excellent and our waiter was very helpful. We all really enjoyed our meals and would recommend the lamb Rogan josh.

The meal was exceptional from beginning to end. Quick and efficient service, even as a group of 9, and we never felt rushed. Our server was friendly and attentive. But best of all: the food. Every dish our family ordered was different and delicious in its own way. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The only downside I can find is that I live in another country, so I may never get a chance to come back. But if I'm ever nearby again by chance, I will make a point to revisit!

We were so happy to find such a wonderful Indian restaurant! This is a perfect place to go if you are vegetarian or not! The curries were excellent! I had the vegetable chaat and it was my favorite! The service was prompt and careful. We felt very well taken care of.

Had a great meal here tonight in what is clearly a popular place. What I really liked however is how helpful the team were regarding vegan options, they can do pretty much most reasonable dishes suitable for vegans, I had vgn bhuna which was excellent, wife had Taka Dal , also amazing. Will come back for sure

We had a fantastic evening meal today, I can strongly recommend The Magna Tandoori. I had a venison Naga with plain boiled rice, and my partner had a vegetarian biryani. The onion bhajis were fabulous! Service was prompt, professional, and friendly, with an attentive waiter who genuinely wanted the best for us. We will definitely dine here again, the next time we visit Berwick.

An early takeaway, not that the time should make any difference to quality of food. On a short break, takeaway on last night……Awful!! Hard, cold onion bhajis, dry, cold, crispy Nan???!!! Pretty sure chicken precooked. We are sure we got yesterday’s starters. The food was ready less than 20 minutes after my husband ordered, not long enough to be freshly cooked. So glad we can return to the outstanding curries we get in Yorkshire!

Came in on a Saturday Evening, it was busy, but everyone got seated quite quickly. I ordered the onion bhaji as a starter,the portions were massive, and the food was amazing.I ordered a Chicken Biryani as the main and some pilaw rice alongside with the rest of my family and we were continually surprised by the quality of the food. I also love the decorations! Happy this was my first experience of an Indian Restaurant. Definitely coming again.

The fusion dish was amazing. I will rave about this for a long time. My husband had very large jump prawns which were impressive.

Visited here mid-Feb, and was rather disappointed given the other reviews. It is a magnificent venue, with great decor. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Service was quick, perhaps even a bit quick at places . The food though, let much to be desired. While hot and well presented, the meat content was sadly lacking and the dish padded with winter brown onions, which were largely raw and inedible. Small rice portions Even the saag aloo was short on spinach. The butter chicken was a disgrace := pretty much thin chicken bits, like you get on a sandwich, doused in what looked like a cheap jar of sauce.

I think this is by far the worst Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. The decor is beyond tacky, which should have been the first red flag, but my experience told me that the gaudier a place looks, the better the food usually. Not the case. How do you mess up something as simple as a butter paneer or Daal? The mains were completely flavourless, the pilau just tasted boiled, the sauce for the butter chicken had about half a bag of sugar dumped in it and was almost inedible. Service was off, I think the servers just came off as disinterested and strangely intense at times. One half hearted attempt at a conversation was very quickly abandoned in a very awkward way. Now I’m not saying a server should smile or talk to customers, I know I don’t want to a lot of the time when I’m waitering, but if you’re going to ask a customer about their day, when they tell you about it don’t just say ‘right’ and wander off? Anyway it was kind of entering so bad it’s good territory because the whole experience was comically terrible. Did I pay for the whole thing? Did I say ‘yeah it was great’ when asked how the food was? You’re damn right I did. Because I’m terminally British and I refuse to express my true feelings to anyone and only do it behind their backs or on the internet where I can be semi-anonymous. The only thing I loathe more than the food here is myself.

The poppadoms were good. The rest of the meal was horrible, everything was the same beige colour and tasted awful. £8 for a Diet Coke and a 0% beer that took 15 mins from ordering to arrive. Waiter seemed shocked when we asked for plates to put our main courses on, seems we were expected to heap it all onto the plate the rice has arrived on. More expensive than very good 2 course lunches with drinks in other restaurants in Berwick and Alnwick.

The foods been amazing here for as long as I have been alive. You’re made to feel apart of the family which makes this a special place to dine. The Magna Tandoori is my happy place! Thank you Cam W

Lovely building, lovely staff and lovely food. We ended up going for the set meal and my wife ended up taking the rest of her meal back home as the portions were that big. Would happily go there again

Visited Berwick one mid week evening so popped in. Great service and menue. Ordered prawn dansak, chicken rogan, naan and okra with boiled rice. All absolutely stunning. Tasty and very little grease. Highly recommend.
