Every time we visit Millside it exceeds expectations, such a friendly and professional approach to customer services but also amazing food all locally sourced. There is nothing not to like about this restaurant and one that I look forward to visiting every time I am near Lyme Regis. If you haven't tried it yet please do it really is very, very good 👍

We were two couples visiting Lyme Regis and decided to try Millside for dinner around 8pm. Greeted warmly we were seated at a cosy table for four and were quickly attended to. Ordered a bottle of white and a glass of red as we had pre-ordered our mains. We tried the padron peppers as a starter but although the whipped feta was very tasty we were not over enthusiastic about the chargrilled padrons themselves - a bit overdone. Onto the mains - we tried a mix of sea bass, lemon sole and rump steak. Dishes arrived fairly quickly and the food was excellent with a special mention to the steak presentation on a large board. Portions were good and the accompanying salad/fries were delicious although the pak choi with the sea bass was a bit disappointing. Overall a delicious meal and good wine with very attentive service.

Tis is a lovely restaurant based in Lyme Regis, Dorset. The setting is lovely and the staff are first class. We had the 'Fruits de Mer' which was delicious and extremely well presented as well as an excellent cheese board, would definitely recommend. There is a good selection of seafood and some great desserts with a fine dining option once a month. If you are in the area you really should give this restaurant a try, we will be back.

We had heard great things about this place and it didn’t disappoint. A starter of Padron peppers with a mayonnaise dip was just right. For our mains we treated ourselves to superb Lyme Bay half lobster each, which had a beautiful salad, a wonderful dressing and chips. The place has a lovely atmosphere with attentive staff that also gave us a laugh. Thank you.

We looked on Trip Advisor for top 5 places to eat in Lyme Regis and the Mill side was in the top 3. We were not disappointed, food was beautiful, so flavoursome. We had the scallops and prawn cocktail to start and we both had the Sea Bass for main. If we had more bread the plate would have been clean! Service was at just the right level of attentiveness. Very welcoming and happy to have a little chat. Overall it was a perfect afternoon and we will definitely be back. Thank you Millside for making our afternoon a memorable one. X

A really special restaurant in heart of Lyme Regis. Friendly and attentive staff made us feel very welcome from the time we arrived. The menu was creative with interesting combinations of ingredients, such as mackerel with figs and rhubarb. All the food was beautifully cooked and presented. Mainly fresh fish on the menu, which was the main attraction, but also locally sourced beef and vegetarian options. Puddings also delicious. A really lovely restaurant experience. This restaurant is tucked away beside the beautifully restored mill in the heart of Lyme Regis. It is a lovely venue both inside and out. The food is exceptional as is the service, and it is very reasonably priced. We thought Millside was far superior to the other restaurants that we had been recommended in Lyme Regis.

Booked a lunchtime table last Friday. Our usual warm welcome, a great outdoor table, in the sunshine. Staff were attentive and friendly. This was our first Millside lunch with the new, ‘small plates’ menu, and it was fantastic. We started with arancini balls and tempura oysters, which were both first rate. My wife then had the beef carpaccio and I had scallops and lobster roll. We had sides of sea bass tartare and couscous, truffle fries, a wonderful green salad and turmeric bread. We topped it off with a chocolate fondant with honeycomb ice cream and a local selection of cheese. The bill, given the quality of the meal was very reasonable. Having seen a couple of previous reviews, I can only say that this was a stunning meal. No intimidation, no parrots, just great food.

This meal was absolutely stunning! Started off with the antipasti which was perfect, generous slices of beautiful Parma ham along side a pickle salad, flatbread and amazing Hummus, it was delicious! For main it was the steak and honestly, this was the best steak I have ever had - I was genuinely sad when it was over. We shared a desert and went with the chocolate fondant and again, this did not disappoint, unbelievably delicious. Perhaps the most depressing thing about writing this review is that I fully suspect, judging by her reaction to previous less than positive comments on line, Georgina will pen a diatribe of 3 or 4 highly defensive paragraphs in response. Diners beware – this is not an establishment where your views, unless glowing, are welcome. You will not be met with a “hands up – we didn’t deliver this time and we’re sorry” from this team. Notwithstanding what will doubtless follow, here is my review of Millside’s Eddy restaurant, a visit to which formed part of our overnight trip to Lyme, to give us both a chance to chill out, and savour Lyme Bay’s finest produce. With its focus on seafood, our supper at Millside was eagerly anticipated. We arrived some 15-20 minutes early, and asked if we might sit in the restaurant for a pre-dinner glass of wine. We were shown to our table, which was ready, with the proviso that we would have to wait to order given our early arrival. This was not a problem for us as we were in no hurry but asked if we might, as the menu suggested “get comfy” with some olives, a bread selection and asked if we might also order some oysters, also on the pre-prandial list. We never did find out as the waiter disappeared. We had to chase him for some water for the table. The bread selection was a few half slices along with tiny dipping bowls – not great value for £5. The olive bowl was equally meagre for £5.25. The rest of the menu was more limited than the online version – no langoustines for starters, so we opted for scallops. We were told they had run out. And still no word on the oysters. We chose the Fruits de Mer Platter. The waitress appeared to announce there had been another change – there were no prawns which comprised in fact 2 of the six fish dishes on the platter. There had apparently bveen a rush on the fish platter – al little surprising given its popularity that the restaurant hadn’t seen fit to order more efficiently. Having seen a huge platter of seafoord, including a pile of prawsn, delivered to another table a little earlier – and overhearing that there was “too much food” from the diners, we felt a little short-changed. There was apparently a “deal to be done” as the waitress explained and went off to the kitchen to see what the terms were. We said we’d go for the lamb rack but she wrinkled her nose and said “don’t do that”. The compromise we were offered were 4 oysters in place of the missing prawns with an extra oyster added “for the inconvenience”. Finding it hard to know how to divide 5 oysters by two people I asked if this could be upped to 6 which was agreed. The problems began when it all turned up at once and we were advised to eat the tempura pollock quickly as “it goes soft”. Our starter of the oysters arrived alongside so these needed to be eaten first anyway….. The platter itself was a pile of random items on shells piled on top of each other and heavily bulked up with slices of bread, crispbreads and rather tired looking salad, aong with a rather puzzling daisy. The langoustines were so tiny that it was impossible to get any meat from the legs, and the bodies were small, slathered in a completely tasteless white substance which was pretty off-putting. The “passionfruit mignonette” that accompanied the oysters was also unpleasant and masked any flavour from them if they had any to begin with. The tempura pollock bites were soggy along with the parmesan truffle fries (another nasty taste), and the only taste came from the yuzu mayo buied in little dish in amongst the debris on the platter. The juniper berry smoked salmon was dry and the flavour overpowering. There was a great dollop of mackerel pate which could have come from anywhere and was out of proportion to other items on the platter. For £65 this was risible. We decided to call it a night, not wishing to prolong the misery, just asking for a coffee and the bill. We told the waitress in answer to her enquiry that we had not enjoyed our food but did not wish to engage in a lengthy debate – we just wanted to pay and go. Next at the table was a gentleman who started clearing our plates, and also asked how out meal was – we told him we had not enjoyed it. Next up was the waitress who had been sent to face the music on his behalf (he turned out to be one of the owners). She asked that we tell her the problems, which we explained we didn’t want to discuss, but she was very insistent, unusually so in fact given our reluctance, saying that she would like to hear our complaints “in order to present their side”. I have never been in a resaurnt so keen to debate an issue. We were thus pressured into explaining our feelings about the food, and shse disappeared. Next up was a very agitated chef, Georgina, bearing a platter with some rather unimpressive specimens on it -she had apparently objected to my use of the word “overprocessed” which I think she had misunderstood, and was insistent that all their food was fresh. This was not being debated as what wasn’t in short supply just didn’t taste good despite its freshness or lack of. As for the minuscule langoustines, she felt the need to enlighten us with the fact that “langoustines are not lobsters”. Slightly affronted by this patronising attitude and an increasingly agitated Georgina, my partner chose this moment to point out that he had been a chef for thirty years, internationally, and so had a rough idea of what passed for good food. She then decided that she would engage in a playground tit for tat announcing that she had cooked for Lady XXXX of the royal household. Not sure where all this was going, we again asked for the bill. But it was not to be - our table was next visited by the gentleman who had cleared it earlier announced that he was co-owner along with the angry chef. I am not sure what this signified unless he was implying that we were talking to some Very Important People. We again requested out bill and we did not want this ridiculous debate continue, but simply pay our dues and leave. At this point they refused our money and the angry chef and her partner joined the rest of the staff behind our table in what was tantamount to intimidation. Unable to pay because they refused to take our money, we left the restaurant very much shaken by their cries of derision. The whole experience was frightening. A couple passing, residents of Lyme, on hearing the disturbance, asked about our experience as they had not yet visited Millside. Needless to say we told them. Quite frankly the local chippie would have been a more pleasant experience. Please, do not waste your money in this establishment – or if you do – for heavens’ sake, don’t dare complain.

This is a very strange restaurant. The food was perfectly fine - although the limited menu is made even more limited by having several options that are for two people only. But the behaviour of the staff is bizarre ... Our waiter was waiting tables with a parrot on his shoulder, and when we remarked on the parrot, we were told off extremely angrily by the woman in charge (manager? owner?). Despite her not being a witness to our conversation with the waiter, she accused us of upsetting him. She said that the waiter had been so upset by us noticing his parrot and remarking on it that he was having to take the rest of the shift off (!). It didn't appear to have occured to either of them that the way to ensure that your parrot is not noticed by customers, is to leave it at home and not carry it around on your shoulder while you're working (... in a food environment). My friend, who bore the brunt of this tirade, did not appreciate being spoken to in such a rude, aggressive way. On our way out, the waiter and the parrot were standing just outside the doorway, where he was telling people that the letters FBI written on the parrot's jacket stood for 'Female Body Investigator' ... which made it all just a little bit tacky. All in all, the visit left rather a nasty taste in our mouths and we won't be returning.

Disappointing, to be honest, service was very slow, especially when it was all cold food. I got the mini charcuterie board, which lacked flavour. I've never served a charcuterie board without bread or a cracker, I think this needs to be revised. Starter sourdough bread with balsamic and rapeseed oil tasted bland. I'm not sure why olive oil is not used as it has much better flavours. My husband had a scotch egg starter followed by 'a pint of prawns' with pickled cucumber and Marie Rose sauce. All of it came together starters and mains?? By the time my husband had shelled all his prawns, I had finished my food and drink. Nobody approached us to ask if we wanted more drinks or if things were ok until my husband had nearly finished. He did say had he realised he had to shell his own food, he'd have ordered something else. I did give feedback when asked outside and was offered money back. Hopefully, it was just an off day. Drinks were great

In fact we enjoyed three of these. My partner dined on half a lobster which he said was one of the best he's ever had, and I had two starters, beef carpaccio and tempura monkfish. Sides of rocket and triple fried chips. All delicious, beautifully presented in this lovely restaurant.

Having followed this team on instagram since there arrival in Lyme I’ve been looking forward to trying the menu. Finally we were able to get there last night, I wasn’t disappointed. From the moment we arrived the staff were extremely helpful with lots of information about the wine and food on the menu, the place was full but we never felt forgotten. The food was first class with excellent presentation, the fish was amazingly fresh and the steak out of this world. It’s no surprise there winning so many awards!! Fantastic evening thank you again to John and Georgina

Plenty of waiting staff so never an issue about waiting. Food was good and the chef catered for my extensive list of intolerances.

This place is so popular and for good reason. The staff were all friendly and attentive, and the food fresh and tasty. I had the tuna steak salad which was huge and perfectly cooked. The only slight downside was that we had the table next to the entrance where people had to sign in for track and trace (this was before restrictions were eased) and it was a tight space and constantly busy. If you want to visit here, book well in advance as the phone was ringing off the hook!

I had the lobster which was super yummy.I would eat there again, we can’t wait to come back. This restaurant was the highlight of our weekend.

We had a fantastic meal here in July. The staff are super friendly, the food of an outstanding nature, the setting beautiful - what more could you ask from a restaurant. One of our party ordered mussels and when they were too spicy the kitchen made a new portion without chilli without us asking them to do so. Now that is good service! Highly recommend this restaurant - but book early as unfortunately everyone seems to have discovered this hidden gem down at the town mill.

We decided to visit Lyme Regis for a little pre-Birthday weekend and I was particularly keen that we went somewhere "nice" for Saturday night. Oh,it was lovely!! We love fish and as soon as I saw crab on the menu I was sold. The staff were attentive and friendly and the place had an easy going atmosphere. The place was very clean and tables well spaced. We had oysters and monkfish starter-the oysters in particular were yum. We spent ages then picking thru' crab in the asian sauce-messy but delish!! I tried the local wines for something different, and my hubby had the local IPA. It was so nice to feel like we really had "a meal out"!

This place is simply great.. from the very moment we turned up, to be greeted by a charming lady who showed us to our seats...whoops.. we had chosen to be seated in the sun....never a problem as it turned out, as within moments 2 chaps appeared with a seriously large parasol which they positioned and weighted without an iota of fuss. The staff were charming and engaging and paid attention to every detail. The menu was sumptuous which made it very difficult to chose..but lordy was it a good choice! Her ladyship chose the Grilled lobster with Roast Garlic & Herb Butter, dressed Salad, Breads, and Skinny Fries...naturally I stole a couple of the fries and they were delicious...really? I hear you ask...you're mentioning Fries..?..well yes... they were totally fresh with a great texture.. Anyway, moving on.. I had the Seared Tuna Loin Steak, it came with Soft Boiled Egg, Caper & Anchovy Emulsion, Green Beans, Cornish Baby Potatoes, Cherry Tomato, Mixed Olives - all pitted - Beetroot Reduction and Fresh Anchovies .. I have listed all the ingredients here because, I cannot remember when a dish has appeared in front of me that actually made say wow!.. great presentation...and the ingredients were as fresh as could be.I don't know who chef actually is, but they need to keep him prisoner, because this really was the best dining experience we have enjoyed for a long time! And naturally dear reader, as you can imagine, the whole thing was delicious...oh yes... I totally forgot about the oysters....Tempura River Teign Oysters to be precise...and they were mouthwatering. Our general impression of the restaurant - we found it airy, inviting and very clean. It got to the point where I was actually looking for faults to report because everything was totally on point, but I found none. ..and there lies the problem... I actually wondered whether to write this review at all, because this place is so good that everyone who reads will want to visit and I'll find it really tricky to get a table next time..! 10/10 in every aspect.

What a fabulous find tucked away a 3 minute walk from the beach. Nestled by the stream in a sunny and calm space away from the crowds. We ate their twice on a recent weekend visit and were amazed by the wonderful food and friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant and outside terrace were clean and there were nice details. Throws on the outside seats, a nice uniform, quality cutlery. Even their business card was thoughtfully designed. Can't wait to return.

Two trips here during our two weeks in Lyme, one with four friends, for supper. The other just the two of us for lunch. We were blessed by the weather on both occasions, outdoor dining in this delightful courtyard first rate. Too many great dishes to list them all but the escargot are amazing, as are the various pre-starter dishes and the tempuras oysters (incredible), monkfish (divine) and cauliflower (superb). A special mention for the pickled cockles, mussels and beetroot - who’d have thought these three ingredients could produce such a delicate flavour! Mains for supper were a surf ‘n’ turf (put together brilliantly following our request) combination of the lobster and tomahawk steak and the harissa-glazed chicken for lunch. Both spectacular. Add in some excellent local beers and wines, plus the superb staff and owners, and you have a pretty irresistible dining experience.

Managed to get a table here for lunchtime as all evenings fully booked during our stay. So glad we made it as the food was exceptional. We were waited on by a lovely young lady who was extremely polite and knowledgeable without being overbearing. She was also very good at up- selling in a very subtle way, a credit to the restaurant. We had local g&t's whilst perusing the menu. We explained that my husband has a prawn allergy and were worried about cross contamination. We ordered half a lobster and the hot crab. The waitress checked with the chef who said there could be prawn in the sauce used in the hot crab so we swapped to Dover Sole. We shared both dishes which were amazing. We then had chocolate Fondant with Ice cream and lemon Posset for deserts. All washed down with a fabulous bottle of Rose Wine. A very pleasant way to end our holiday. We didn't feel rushed as the restaurant was preparing for the evening sittings by the time we had finished. A tad expensive but well worth it for a treat. Highly recommended.

Millside is rated as “Excellent” on TripAdvisor by over 90% of reviewers, and we could clearly see why! We eat out quite a bit, and we always try to avoid “chain” restaurants because they’re invariably “just ok” and instead we look for the “independents” like Millside where the food, the service, and the whole experience can often be on another level. Well, Millside was just that. Truly excellent in every way. A lovely warm welcome was followed by friendly and efficient service all evening. The location is perfect, nestled amongst other local shops and eateries, away from the busy streets. The food, first class! We booked a second visit for the last night of our holiday here - it really is *that* good!

The meal was perfect. It's a lovely restaurant, with excellent service and a gorgeous setting. I had carpaccio of beef which was melty and delicious. Then I had the tuna loin salad. Options for vegetarians are limited. It was the most delicious, full, tasty meal I have had in a long time. The salad was incredibly good value at £16, with anchovies, perfectly soft boiled egg, garlic aioli, and the freshest greens you can get. The cheapest white wine was delicious and an appreciated recommendation from the waiter. For pudding I had the chocolate fondant with vanilla bean icecream. It was light, gooey, fabulous. I highly recommend this excellent restaurant and think everyone would enjoy it. Meal for two, three courses each, bottle of wine, glass of dessert wine came to £95. Great value.

We found this restaurant by chance and managed to get a table which had just been cancelled. What luck! Just as I was becoming jaded about standards in restaurants this place restored my faith completely. We had a superb meal. I plumped for two starters which were both equally delicious. The scallops were generous and beautifully cooked and the monkfish was delightful. The sole was also cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The lemon and rhubarb posset was delicious too. Service was relaxed and friendly which made the evening a very happy one. This was truly the best dining experience we have had for some time.

We booked a table as we were visiting Lyme Regis as a short break to celebrate a birthday. The food was truly delicious, looking and tasting fabulous. There was a feel of generosity mixed with amazing quality produce, my scallops were huge. Checking out the other dishes being delivered around us we agreed we could happily revisit a number of times to try more on the menu. I think the owners have carefully considered what will give them very satisfied customers. We were very very satisfied customers, treated to wonderful food and warm hospitality ( staff didn’t know it was a birthday treat) but it felt like they did. Bravo to everyone at Millside
