The Pheonix Dundee in Dundee City

Gran pub y ambiente, el Phoenix es uno de los mejores pubs de Dundee. Tiene una gran variedad de cerveza de barril premium y la comida es épica! Recomiendo encarecidamente la hamburguesa de chile. El servicio es genial también, nunca necesita esperar a ser servido (como en no más de un minuto) y todo está bien de precio.

El sábado estuvimos aquí en un gran grupo, gran ambiente todos pasándolo bien, el barman a excepción de mi amigo para el que todavía no sabemos por qué, se negó a servirlo, le di una mirada / mirada que era todo, entonces decidió gritarme entre la multitud por cómo lo miraba, probablemente la peor reacción de una persona en la hospitalidad que he visto, este hombre sirvió su última pinta en mi opinión, ha estado en ese trabajo demasiado tiempo y ha perdido todo sentido de lo que significa estar en la hospitalidad, mirando las críticas anteriores parece que puedo haber conocido a la misma persona ... . y si es así buena suerte manteniendo clientela regular con ese tipo de podredumbre en su negocio. No voy a poner un pie atrás en este local ahora.

Un viaje a Dundee no sería lo mismo sin una visita a The Phoenix. Es un pub propio y tradicional con un interior único, una interesante selección de cervezas a mano y una amplia gama de barriles. El ambiente es agradable y acogedor. No es uno para grupos revoltosos, solo personas de todas las edades disfrutando de sus conversaciones. No puedo comentar sobre la comida, ya que siempre vamos por la noche después de que el servicio de comida ha terminado.

Lamentablemente la una vez excelente hamburguesa de chile de la característica barra pheonix nos decepcionó después de años de ser la mejor en dundee (en mi opinión). El chile estaba caliente, no picante como se esperaba (no lo suficientemente caliente como para derretir el queso por encima). Históricamente, la hamburguesa nunca fue la mejor, sino simplemente un acompañamiento para el sabroso chile, las nuevas hamburguesas Scotts se compactan con dureza sin sabor ni carbón para indicar una sensación fresca cocinada, más bien una precocinada y simplemente recalentada a la carta. Los rollos de blandengue "caer a pedazos" utilizados serían mejor cambiados a un bollo de brioche tostado. Afortunadamente opté por no comer la hamburguesa, pero 2 de nosotros todavía estábamos enfermos. Una pena ya que el chile era un "ir a" para nosotros en cualquier día de fiesta.

Bar staff unbelievably rude!. 3x we have visited this bar and 3x the atmosphere mops that work here had a say. This time because we were laughing too loud (yes laughing in a pub). He leaned over the bar and pointed at our table shouting (I’ll kick you lot out if you don’t lower the laughter, I mean it I’ll f*cking kick you lot out!) Do not recommend in the slightest, it’s actually a nice wee bar however some of the staff are horrible. We walked past a group of lads going into the bar as we walked out and one said to their friend “let’s see if the guy working in here is in a mood again” so it must be common knowledge.

This pub is an old fashioned looking bar, but that is no bad thing and I would happily return. Friendly, chatty bar staff and a decent atmosphere about the place. We were here for drinks only, but there was a decent pub grub menu. Only a few minutes walk from the city centre and a good place for a few beers.

Hadn’t been to the Phoenix in a number of years so upon a visit back to Dundee we decided to go here for food before heading into town. I was warned that the food wasn’t that great anymore and really wish I had listened. The barman who served us was rude, zero manners, grumpy and uninviting. While he was serving us we thought about making our escape and I really wish we had because damn, that food was disgusting. The chilli tastes days old and like it had been burned in the pot. The burgers were a soggy mess and tasted like some cheap frozen crap. Never again!

The Phoenix is one of Dundee oldest pubs and has many fine historic features and decor. Great range of Ale and very well served too. A mixed clientele provided a friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy a few pints. Staff were friendly and efficient too.

Great ambience - will defo return. Bar staff very friendly which always a plus. Locals were very engaging and chatty and we felt so at home.

Was in here on Saturday, my girlfriend asked for archers and lemonade and was given sambucca, she went back up and told the bartender and asked for a replacement who then got aggressive with her telling her “I’m fed up with you, what do you expect me to do” shouting and swearing for no reason whatsoever. My girlfriend has worked in hospitality for 8 years and would never wish to speak to a customer like that, which is why I know she approached the member of staff with respect and was nice to him. His reaction was completely uncalled for, don’t know if he was just having a bad day but to speak to a young woman like that is bang out of order. We have absolutely loved this pub for years but this had really tainted how we feel about the place now.

I was having lunch and my friend was served a drink with a fly in the glass. I mentioned it discreetly to the woman behind the bar. This is the best bit... Wait.. She asked me to bring the fly to the bar. She told me that she cannot be responsible for flies. I said that she she be made aware of the issue. No replacement drink was offered, I had to ask. No apology was given. When she came to clear our table, she was very unfriendly and had a face like fizz. Thank you, due to your appalling behaviour, we will NEVER be back. Disgraceful customer service, no customer relation skills whatsoever. This happened at 14:00 so that management can identify this unpleasant woman. For that reason, I do NOT recommend this bar at all.

Went in for a drink made to feel welcome great going into a proper pub instead of chain pubs decided to have something to eat and didn't disappoint good menu and reasonably priced great food and drink will certainly be going back

Monster portions , brilliant flavours and great prices . PERFECT ! Not the most exotic place but couldn't care less about that . Great food and great beer .

There is a walk-in policy here (no pre-booking tables like so many other pubs in Dundee during this time) and there was the same amount of tables as before but a lot less people. Went here for a quick lunch (2 of us) and the food didn't disappoint - lovely as usual (I'm a bit of a local here!) Staff were great too.

There are not many of these left and its a shame. This used to be a regular haunt of my husbands when he was at college and probably hasn't changed much over the years, worth stopping for a drink or food, prices are very good and atmosphere as well.

Called by here a couple of times during our weekend stay in Dundee. Cracking pub, good location (just over the road from our hotel) and a good choice of beers. Very friendly atmosphere.

The Phoenix is a great old fashioned pub which I always visit when I am in Dundee. As well as a good range of beers and other drinks, the food is superior quality pub grub and the portions are mighty.

Use this pub when I’m in Dundee. Always enjoyed it. Tried it tonight and asked for a small sample of a guest beer. Just a dash in a glass. The answer was a very surly “no”. Not “sorry we can’t do that”. Just “no”. Unpleasant. Just left the place.

I was in The Phoenix on Saturday and the fat, bearded bar man with a wrong opinion on everything actually served me without swearing. What has happened to the place? It wasn't like that when that part-time barber John Allan had the place!

Good city centre Scottish pub! Vast selection of beers wines and spirits. Only had drinks! Only down side is toilets! Very old and run down , especially the ladies my wife tells me!!!

Pub atmosférico con gran interior. Un pub antiguo y apropiado que ha conservado sus vidrieras y pantallas de snob de madera. Dos grandes ciervos disecados y cabezas de ganado bovino te miran junto con una mezcla ecléctica de recuerdos. ¡Se escuchaba música rock discreta y una pantalla de televisión mostraba temas "varoniles"! Los aseos eran de la era de los 70 pero limpios y funcionales. Buena cerveza. No hay muchos lugares de este tipo en estos días, ¡así que atesorarlo! Me alegro de haber aparecido.

Excellent food as always in The Phoenix and a very reasonably priced menu . Nice staff , friendly and efficient. Only down side is that the beer is overpriced. Well worth a visit though .

Fuimos por un par de pintas y un bocado para comer con algunos amigos. No he comido aquí por unos 20 años, no me decepcionaron. Siempre recordé que era un buen lugar para comer y aún es brillante. Fui por la hamburguesa de chile con papas fritas (las llamaron papas Groucho o algo así) y fue una gran cantidad de comida, tal como me gusta. Muy sabrosa comida, así como buen tamaño de las porciones y estaba apenas tímido de un tenner. El personal del bar era realmente amable e incluso trató de evocar una bebida específica para uno de mis amigos, ya que no la tenían. Buen servicio al cliente si me preguntas. Lo único que lo decepciona es un ligero olor cuando entras que creo que viene del antiguo restaurante de al lado. Pero no es su culpa. Buena selección de grifos con diferentes cervezas y cervezas. Had seen it reviewed elsewhere as a good place for real ales and craft beer but its mostly mass produced commercial beer such as Tennent's. Typical cozy pub atmosphere. Average food and service. Pricey.

Popped in here for a drink very early evening. Nice mix of customers and welcoming atmosphere. The food looked very good too but we didn't eat as the menus etc were cleared off the tables at 19.00. Menu was great value for money.

Food is really good! Expensive for pub food but worth it. Staff are nice but could be more smiley for customers who are in for food & not alcohol. Interior is cool and quirky.

Very happy to find out the Phoenix is now dog friendly.

Only popped in for a drink and a chat with friends. The beer is great and numerous craft beers. The food going out looked superb and a couple next to us commented on how good it tasted. Will return.

Tuvimos una pinta de la excelente Deuchars IPA en Phoenix cada una de las 3 noches que estuvimos en Dundee. Había una excelente selección de cervezas de verdad. Había un buen ambiente, muchos asientos cómodos y el servicio atento. La comida parecía ser abundante y buena relación calidad-precio.

The Phoenix bar is an excel pub with lots of atmosphere. It is a great place to go with friends for part of a good night out or as a venue for a pub crawl.

The Phoenix Bar is one that baffles me, some say it's a Dundee institution but i have experienced on a few occasions now, nothing but terrible customer service. The bar staff are either miserable in their jobs, or believe that they hold the power to ruin a day/night out.

My wife and I were in Dundee to visit the newly opened V&A; Museum and Discovery Centre and looking for somewhere for lunch when we chanced upon this excellent bar. The Pheonix gets everything right; great range of cask and keg beers, extensive and varied menu offering excellent value food including a nice choice of vegetarian options, warm and friendly bar and waiting staff and a very cosy, bustling atmosphere. We liked it. A lot.

Always very busy for lunches as the food is plentiful, big portions, freshly cooked, good service. Good value.

Couples in for drinks on Saturday night, very busy pub with good atmosphere. Service very quick and drinks selection as always very good. Always a smart choice to stop off here when on Perth Road.

Traditional Scottish pub....and one of the few in Dundee serving cask beer. The real reason to go. The second reason is bar food. The 'speciality' is chilli. And good it is! Beefy and spicy. Have a pint, chilli and chips and only pay £12.

This well known Dundee watering hole in the student centre is unchanged over the years unlike many of the neighbouring establishments which have become upmarket.

When we are in Dundee we always meet in the Pheonix. A great traditional pub with great beers. The food going out looked amazing and we were told the burgers are superb. We were only in for a drink tonight but well worth a visit for the craic, atmosphere,service and varied variety of beers.

Food was fine. We ordered Nachos and a Burger which we both enjoyed. The plate the burger was served on was far too small, struggled to eat with everything else it was served with. Thought it wasn't the best value for what we got.

This pub has been around for a long time, for me it's a meeting place, 1 pint, then move on. It fit's the bill.

I think I have found the least friendly landlord in Scotland. If you visit make sure you ask for a taste of the beer before you buy. You wont get one but its always good to ask and sooner or later this landlord may jump...

I hadnt been in the Pheonix in about 20 years, when as a student I loved it. I went in late afternoon a few months ago with friends on a wee crawl tasting different craft ales in bars on the perth road and the Beer Kitchen. As we do in all bars that have craft ales on tap, we asked the young barmaid for tasters of a couple of the crafts they had on tap so that we can decide what ones we would prefer. We were told they do not do 'tasters'. I was surprised and questioned this and explained why I asked. No excuse was given. Then an older barman came over and re-iterated the point...They dont do tasters. They were informed they will have no custom from us now or in the future. I work in the industry and this is a very unusual stance to hold in this day and age when craft ales are becoming the backbone of contemporary pub culture. Any bar worth it's salt will always be pleased to offer a taster to share their enthusiasm and knowledge for the beers they are selling. The same thing happened in the Pheonix again to four business acquaintances just last week. I was astounded as I thought it must be crap members of staff. However they were under the impression the barman was actually the owner or a manager. This pub place should be left to the regulars who enjoy terrible customer service.

Me and my boyfriend were looking for somewhere to eat in town and decided to go to the pheonix for some bar food and football. As soon as we entered there was no friendly welcome, pub was dead with around 5 people all together. As soon as my boyfriend ordered our food at the bar he was asked for ID for me ( I was not ordering alcohol, I am 22 years old AND it was during the day ) the bar man literally threw the ID back at him and stropped away like a child throwing his toys out the pram. We were then asked to leave the bar. I have never been so disgusted in my whole life, will never be back. Also when we complained on Facebook we had a grown women start an argument with us.

Went for drink,and on visiting toilets was perturbed to find no soap to wash hands.What do chefs do. Glad I've never ate.

Still one of the best traditional bars in Dundee. Always busy, great atmosphere and best of all great beers. Food also superb I am told but I go there for the beer and atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

At 11.20 pm a group of women of a certain age, professionals, visited the Pheonix for a drink to end a night out. On entering the establishment a young lady was cleaning around 2 tables. Following cleaning of the area the young lady left and I proceeded to sit. My friends were at the bar purchasing drinks. I was met by a loud shout from the barman informing myself I could not sit in this area ! I think everyone in the bar looked in my direction! The same barman proceeded to take our money for the purchase of alcohol !!! Moral of the story don't expect a seat in this bar even if you purchase alcohol. Is this against alcohol rules ? Possible a visit to Dundee council will get an answer. Will not be back ! Spent a lot of time and money over 30 something years in this establishment. Spread the word either employ new bar staff or get rid of your tables for patrons to sit in. Mud sticks !!!!

Best scampi and chips I've had in a pub for a long time and the portion was huge. My companions eat here regularly that was the reason we met there. Very busy as its just down from the Uni, don't know if they take reservations. Next time I'm in Dundee I will be putting this on my place to go for lunch.

Great pub in Dundee that has a rustic down to earth vibe. Great for a ping of fries and burger at lunch and for server all well pulled pints at the end of a working at. Great skilled staff and cozy welcoming atmosphere. Gets busy at lunch time.

I have been here on several occasions throughout the years. Its always been a nice very friendly atmosphere. The portions of food are always generous, my favourite is the prawn salad. The service is always quick no matter how busy they are.

always find this stunning pub whenever we visit Dundee it is a must for locals and visitors alike the food is well cooked and ample portions ale is of great quality staff always welcoming and you can always get a good craic sport is shown but doesnt interfere with people who want to talk.

Classic pub with snugs, stained glass, traditional features. Great selection of beer and a well stocked gantry. Good bar food, big portions and reasonable prices. Always a pleasure visiting.

My husband and I popped in for a daytime pint! The joys of semi-retirement! Warm welcome in a great old school pub. The g&t was great and I am assured that the beer was top class. Another gem found since our move to Dundee!

If you come to dundee you need to pop into the phoenix. Great old fashioned pub, with wee booths to sit in. Not an auld mans pub but full of life and vibrant.The beer and food served are great and the staff are great.Well worth a visit if in dundee.

Arriving late in Dundee we wanted something light and quick to eat, The Phoenix Dundee being just across the road was the ideal place to try, we ordered a medium size Pizza which was promptly delivered and so big we couldn't eat it all. Good value for money and would visit again.

From the interior which is very much traditional boozer style, little snugs & booths to the great service & cracking well kept pint. This is now a favourite of mine on my travels

A great pub, that is superbly run. The food is typical pub fayre with a very good chilli. The beers range is extensive & well-kept for a really good pint with a numbers of lagers, cask ales, Guinness & continental beer.

Decided to grab a bite to eat on a girls day out. One of the girls had previously been and said how fantastic it was.Was a beautiful day and very busy outside. We managed to get a seat in a wee corner for the 3 of us. Had a look at the menu which I felt had something for everyone. I opted for the Pheonix burger and both my friends ordered the Dirty Harry burger. We decided to share a curly fries. I was definitely not disappointed!!Very flavoursome fresh just delish. Would definitely return just for the food!! The atmosphere and service were great very friendly and welcoming.

Great bar meal plenty choice but we chose Christmas menu. Steak pie was great but didn't have three...unless prepared to wait 2 hours!Great time with Jim and John

This pub is somewhere I always bring visitors to Dundee as well as where I meet my Dad or friends when I'm home. The drinks are regular prices, the food is good, cheap, simple pub grub... I know the chicken wings, spicy fries and bean burgers are favourites.The real draw here though is the external building and the brilliant interiors. I mix of traditional divided booths, decor and brilliant stained glass combined with modern pub neons and random bits and bobs. Tunes are good but not imposing and you'll see proper Dundee - couples after work, regulars chatting all day, students and workmates out for lunch.Remember cash - they don't take cards!

Went here for a bar meal. Great selection of beers and friendly and helpful staff, very good atmosphere. The menu is varied and extensive, I had an omelette which was cooked to perfection.
