Lovely bar staff, good service but many dreadful, dirty chairs to sit on. Awful decor needs a refurb asap. Dirty toilets

First timers for breakfast , the sausages were really tasty , the bacon was too . The tomato could have been fried a bit more as still like a fresh salad tomato . The mushrooms had no oil at all on them and were anaemic in colour definitely not fried or grilled . Freezing cold venue, it’s a huge room and to be expected this time of year, toilets need a scrub from floor to skirting boards minging . Breakfast reasonably priced for a huge portion . Lattes were lovely , had to wait a short while, due to a huge group had coming in . Lovely friendly staff working very hard to cater for everyone . An asset to this company .

We came in and were served by a lovely young lady called Lauren she was very happy to serve us and always had a big smile. Well done Lauren! 🙌

Wednesday November 27th, my sister & her husband visited us on the train from Weston Super Mare. We needed a meal, & somewhere to sit & chat for the 4 hours they were in Stafford. We had a perfect time at the Royal Oak with Selina & her team, who looked after us so well. I had a 40% voucher off main meals, & we also had deserts, drinks & coffees. Although the Pub was very busy we were served in good time & efficiently. Everyone enjoyed their chosen meals, & attentive service. We found some easy chairs away from the other diners, to relax & chat, before taking them back to the Station. The total bill was excellent value, & we happily gave a tip. Claire Oakley, Stafford.

Three times I have visited on a Thursday night for a quick drink after football only to be met with a sigh and an eye roll when asking for a drink . It has been different bar staff each time - they are all something terrible. First time we were met with 'we are closing in a bit' - such a lovely welcome. Thought it might be me but my friends all had same experience. Last time questioned as to what the issue was only to be snapped at with 'I've been on since 6'. It was 945 - so not exactly a long shift! We won't be going in again which will no doubt please the staff as they do not seem to want to do any work. This country.

It’s not an expensive restaurant very good for families friendly staff food is good but basic👍 but a good place to go when you can’t be bothered to cook 👍😆

Visited the royal oak with my family 2 weeks ago ordered the gammon inedible looks like it been cooks about five times and reheated up so I let it go as could of been a one off but been back this weekend ordered the rib and steak both hard and un edible even the rib which should be soft and falling off the bone was really hard and stuck together wasted a fortune on this place just to be given food that hurts your jaws to try and eat not again it a massive no no from me!!!

Myself and 3 brothers went for lunch to celebrate a birthday, food was adequate,but service and attitude of staff was to say at the very least awful. No greeting ,asking if everything was okay,just put down on front of you, needless to say we won't be going back.

Stopped here for a snack and a drink during a trip north. Dingy decor and carpets, toilets were old fashioned and STINKING. Very cheap menu and bland food. Ordered spicy chicken nachos but only spicy nachos arrived. Loaded with halopeno chilli’s and terrible cheese sauce ( try using real cheese). The place was not very busy and I can see why. Avoid at all costs.

Our pre-booked party of 5 arrived at 1220hrs for our lunch, and were warmly welcomed. We ordered fro the extensive menu, and the food was served by an enthusiastic staff member. All our meals were tasty and well-presented, as were the desserts. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience, and we would recommend the Royal Oak for lunch. The venue has a spacious car park off the A449, and also excellent public transport links.

Accommodated really well for allergens and were friendly. Food was lovely and came out in good time.

Had a groupon voucher so booked well in advance at exactly 5.00pm when evening meals start what a joke this place is we told them groupon on arrival booked our meals and drinks and then had to argue as they could not get the voucher to go through opened a tab for the drinks but while my wife was still arguing up the bar the2 calamari starters arrived I’m d disabled and tried to get my wife’s attention when she finally sorted it was stone cold but thank god when we ate one they were super well done tasted funny and looked like the fat was as old as me they then called us over to pay for the drinks as the tab would not open because of groupon IF you want a few days off work I suggest you eat here this place is geared up for drinking men definitely not a restaurant swerve if you have any sense the local most probably do the reviews enough said.

Lovely atmosphere, excellent customer service from Sarah. She is always smiling, makes you feel comfortable when ordering at the bar!

We booked a table only to find the was no reserved table for us, I asked for a booth but they were taken, we were shown to a table where customers were just leaving, the waitress cleaned the table but not good at all it was left with a sticky residue all over it, you sat down leaned on it and you're arm tended to stick to it. I then noticed that a booth we asked for had a reserved notice on it, this was at the time we asked for we told the waitress we would move but she said she would ask the manageress, who came to see us, in no uncertain terms we were told we couldn't have that table because there was only two of us and she had booked it for someone else, I told her that it was pointless them having a table reservation system as they hadn't reserved one for us, she had the cheek to say I was being rude. My wife said that she had an attitude problem and it was her that was rude. The food was nothing special tbh very disappointing not up to the standards of other sizzler pubs we've been in, needless to say we won't be going back again.

We came in for father's day, greet as soon as we came in and approached the bar by Sarah (I know Sarah from previous job). As always service with a smile and really helpful. All the meals we had were really nice and we look forward to returning again soon.

Service was amazing lovely staff but the food was absolutely awful .tasted like it was straight out the freezer and we could only really taste onion overall something was just off about all are food even the sauces

Ordered starters which were lovely and came quickly. Main course we had sizzlers which were OK. Seemed to be water in the skillet which was a bit strange. Staff were absolutely fabulous and attentive.

The refurbishment has really made a difference and it has rejuvenated the pub. The staff are fine . The only thing wrong with it is that it is not very warm.

I came to visit the Royal Oak today with a friend, lovely refurb when we came in and nice atmosphere however we were asked to move from the main bar which I completely understand!! However what I could not fathom was how cheeky it was to ask me to move but the staff would stand and talk to one of their friends on the bar while drinking, I find it quite frustrating how customers are asked to move but the friends of staff would stay and chat while drinking while the duty manager would stand and talk without asking them to stand somewhere else. This is a lovely pub with some great staff and an excellent manager but I personally believe the double standards of staff needs to be addressed!!

I enjoyed an all-day breakfast later in the day, which was very good. I found the staff friendly and helpful, but unsure as to whether they could substitute an item in the breakfast offer; I am sure that this will be sorted out soon with experience. The building has benefited from considerable investment (including rebuilding the gate portal which was demolished last spring) and I look forward to visiting again soon. I hope that the staff will soon achieve the consistently high standards that the venue deserves...

Went the royal oak for my sons 18th last night, brilliant service meals came out really quick, food was lovely waitress was lovely and polite, no faults at all thank you for allowing us to having our family celebration here.

You have to taste their large (around £10) mixed grill which is simply fantastic, and I have dined at hundreds of venues throught the UK. This is the best !

This pub was so good that we used it twice in a few days. The menu was good quite a lot of variety. Do lovely to see and veggie and vegan menu. Having not been there before we ordered three (what we thought would be very small plate), we were so wrong. The nachos were so much they would have been ok for me for a meal. The three slices of cheesy garlic bread was again amazing. The vegan lentil dish was very tasty. The only downside was that when we asked for a beer on the menu they did not have it, seems strange that it was 6.45 pm on a holiday weekend. When we tried ordering another beer on the menu again they did not have it. As I said the food was really good and the staff friendly.

When last friday 12 th july for tea my husbands rib eyed steak was cooked perfectly I had a mixed grill which was perfect too fast service and really enjoyed our experience will visit again

We used this as a stop off the M6 to avoid the service station, the food was well cooked as a reasonable portion at a fair price, we had fajitas & messy Mexican. The menu is not wide nor is this place trying to be a gastro pub, but it did what it offered well enough. Sat lunch time it was quite and service as good. Nothing to complain about at the price.

What a joke this pub was on mothers day we booked a table after 5 o'clock so the mothers got a free meal as one mother was at work till 4 30 the mothers got a free meal when we went to pay the bill only one mother got a free meal well there was 3 mothers and all there kids were with them when querying it was refused as it was one booking they did not tell us this when ordering it if we knew this before hand I would of gone somewhere else with table service staff and manager were not bothered about this plus when ordering there was no steak only 5oz they did not offer us any discount as we had to order 2 5oz steaks that were more expensive. the pub was very dirty lamp shades full of dust not a good look when you are eating need a good revamp

1st time here for a meal, didn’t disappoint, food was excellent and so was beer, I would definitely recommend a visit.

We went here for an early supper on Saturday as the location was convenient. The food was cheap, plentiful, hot and tasty, and service obliging. The cutlery and table were clean. Not fine dining, but certainly ticked all the boxes for us on this occasion, and we would go again.

Waited over an hour for food to be served, asked for a jug of water 3 times but was ignored. Food when it arrived was disgusting. Very disappointing. There was a dreadful smell in the restaurant.

Use the Royal Oak frequently and we are always greeted with a smile especially by Nicky is a great asset always cheerful to both regular and new customers - my husband also says she pulls the best pint!! We do eat here and it’s tasty and a good price. There’s a great beer garden at the rear which is ideal for families.

Went at the weekend with family, normally the Royal Oak has been ok but this time what a mess it is.

Barman was friendly when we approached the bar, and the food was superb!! even though they were busy nothing was rushed, very good place to visit and the tables are far away enough from the bar, our waitress that served us on table 12 (little boy that wanted no sauce but make your own with two flakes) was brill, short with long dark hair and glasses, even though she was busy, nothing as too much, great place thank you for a great experience.

We were visiting nearby. The Royal Oak was the nearest eating place and looked inviting so in we came. The decor is smart and, although, it was not busy at 7.30pm, there were enough people there to give it a buzz. There were discreet Christmas decorations but nothing over-the-top and - best of all - no Christmas music!

Friendly and helpful barstaff with loads of banter, kind enough to turn the England rugby on after the football. Good straightforward burger and full menu, full of locals with a great atmosphere. Fully recommend it.

Saw a burger going to a customer and just had to eat ! Food took a little while but no problem as you know it's cooked fresh - we both enjoyed our food / I had a blue cheese burger - blue cheese was in the mushroom and not on the burger I enjoyed what I was served - but missed the blue cheese that I had previously on the burger / this will not stop me visiting again for food

Twelve of us went for a retirement party last Friday. Most of us chose something different from the menu. The food arrived at the same time and was delicious. The staff were really pleasant. We had a room to ourselves. We'll done to everyone for a fantastic evening.

We went in for breakfast, the member of staff, who works wearing an outdoor jacket, was rude and unhelpful.

We called in for Lunch , The food Was excellent and hot , very tasty and well presented The Service is fast and very good . Price wise very good for meals and drinks so it is well worth a visit , you will not be dissapointed

we went for lunch Friday I had the lasagne which was frozen in the middle and looked like one that you would get from asda on the value section my mum had a pie and mash which was also cold and my sister had the hunters chick which looked like the dog had eat it and through it back up .we had to wait for knifes and forks as there were none washed . when we went to complain there was nobody about and when we did find some one she was outside smoking

I've written a previous review of this eatery and it was very good, sadly the quality as deteriorated. We returned a couple of weeks ago I ordered the cod and chips for the wife, when it turned up it wasn't cod and it was under cooked, we complained another meal turned up just as bad as the first. We went back there this week for a family birthday the wife ordered the New Yorker which is a steak meal and a new addition to the menu, I had something that I've had before with no problems the classic mixed grill. On both meals the steak was the worst I've ever had served up to me, it was so bad the the steak knife wouldn't cut it, full of gristle and sinew. The waitresses came to and asked how was the meal, I pointed out to her a serviette with the steak in it saying it was fit for the dog, she apologised and that was that. On another occasion I had the American platter some of the item on the menu were missing when it was served up to me, I had to go to the bar ask ask for them. Another point is that on three occasions we had to ask for knives and forks as there none available.I dont know if the kitchen staff as changed but something as caused this downgrade of what was once a good place to eat

Nice place on the A449 so pop on if you have been diverted off the M6 due to heavy traffic. It is very much used by locals but they are a friendly bunch - food is ok, new menu has some really tasty items - Prices for drink are very good compared with the town.

Just moved to area- first and last visit ...No customer service, dirty tables, even the table next to us that had finished eating before we arrived, was not cleared in the hour we were there...Food terrible... Nobody to speak to of our disappointment Left hungry and went to chip shop for our meal.
