The Sloop Inn, Wootton Bridge in Isle of Wight

Great Value for our Family Gathering 16 of us dined at The Sloop a couple of days before Christmas. Staff were really friendly and 'Liker' at the Carvery was a fun character. We were not seeking a fine dining experience, we simply wanted a space where we could together for a meal and drinks.... & The Sloop ticked those boxes.

Visited as we have for many years on the occasion and was absolutely appalled by the attitude from the chef at the carvery station, I think his name is Lyka. Chef was abrupt and rude and certainly will not be visiting again, a real shame as the carvery itself seemed to have improved (roast potatoes crispy, red cabbage on offer etc) although still small portions of meat. Saw a post come up on the Facebook page complimenting this chef, I truly cannot fathom how anyone could have anything nice to say about this man based off of our experience with him. Maybe we caught him on a bad day, either way we won’t be returning even though we live locally. A real shame as the rest of the staff are brilliant, especially the guy behind the till who I’m not sure of his name.

The carvery was terrible hard cold sprouts and carrots warm roasted spuds couldn't cut food was cold and hard menu dirty did complain but they just said oh well get food tested

I have been coming to this here since it opened as 'the sloop' and seen it gradually decline over time, although, I have kept faithful. Not anymore! I went for lunch with my partner, teenage son and 6 month old baby. We ordered 2 of the big burger meals and 1 carvery. On arrival to collect the carvary, I asked the chef behind the counter if It was possible to have a bowl for my baby as she would have a couple of peas off my plate. I was met with the rudest remarks and told i was to pay £6 for a bowl, followed by snarky comment of I must have never have eaten her before. Another couple in the queue said just give them a bowl as they could see how pathetic it was, he did not agree. Another chef came from the kitchen and said just agree with him, whatever that means. After, the other chef apologized to us when he brought over the burgers and said you asked the wrong chef for a bowl. SERIOUSLY, a 6 month old baby doesn't even eat food, she would try a couple of mashed peas to join in with the family, in what world wouldn't someone provide a bowl for that. Literally blew my mind, and to be met with snarky comment as of I was in the wrong for asking....Very poor treatment to customers, in a time when it looks like you could do with keeping as many as you can.

Stopped off for a late lunch on Friday afternoon while on holiday. Plenty of parking at front of property. To be honest on pulling into car park was slightly put off by look of building - tired looking. But so glad we went in, friendly welcome from the bar staff and quick service. Menu is carvery, pizza and burgers, with some vegetarian meals. We both had burgers, very tasty and reasonable prices. There is a great view at the back of the pub - must be great to sit out there in warmer summer months.

We dined for a late lunch on a weekend out of season. The pub was rather quiet. Three of our party had the carvery which is reasonable quality and good value. As a veggie I wanted something else and expected to wait awhile compared to the others. After 25 minutes I had to chase and it hadn’t even been started! Another diner was in the same boat. Quality of the Leek fondue bake was okay when it eventually arrived. View of the river was nice and we liked the spacious dining area and plenty of parking

Great pizza, perfect family experience amazing staff very attentive very happy and funny would recommend this to anyone coming to the Isle of White for a family meal

Very poor service! We arrived at a quite time (many empty tables) and waited at the sign to be seated..... and waited.... and waited. Five staff walked past us in the 20 mins and all stated it wasn't their job. The queue behind us mounted up. When finally someone came to seat us we decided to walk out, along with two other families in the queue as the staff members had a disagreement about what station each of them should work at. Definitely needs better management and staff training. Can't say about the food as we didn't get any in the end.

This is one of the most underrated pubs that I have been to in a while! The price is very reasonable, the portions are great, the carvery is lovely and the staff are wonderful!

Great quick service and lovely atmosphere. Will defo be back when we are back on the Isle of wight. Also great value for money when you have the whole family with you.

Popped in traditional carvery. Filthy glasses. Poor quality meal - very disappointed, gone downhill in the last few year IMO

Dreadful, starter not good, waited ages for pizza which never arrived had to ask for refund and buy one at Tesco. Think they completely forgot about us. Dreadful service. Shame as lovely position but needs complete refit and better staff.

We went here for our dinner as a family of 6 with 2 dogs. The Parkinson’s close to the pub but very limited. The pub itself is huge and very characterful but very run down. The staff were pleasant but not very effective we ordered carveries but our youngest daughter had pizza and the barman didn’t put it through so we had to chase it severe as l times which left my youngest daughter sitting with no food while we ate our carvery. The carvery was nice but the chef was arrogant and kept a whole line of us waiting while he faffed about, When I went up for the 3rd time about the pizza the manageress intervened it then arrived within 10 minutes and we got a free drink. Unfortunately they messed the pudding order up too !!

Absolutely foul, do not eat here, table of 8 all food came out randomly my poor wife was just starting her starter the server threw at her whilst the rest of family were ordering desert. I gave up and refused my meal so I could get a refund for the disgusting experience. I should have cottoned on when our server (Chris) finally delivered my starter and spat all over me when he was talking. Whilst trying to complain the manager hid in the kitchen and only made an appearance when I stated doing the staffs job and letting the customers know there was a very long wait on the terrible food. Whilst waiting all the staff were laughing saying how awful the days service was

Absolutely terrible service lack of staff, the wait for carvery was over 30 mins while one person cooks and tries to serve. Just unreal…. The server was less than helpful. Waiting from 18:25 till 19:00 so far to get served !!! 05/07 Won’t come back

We live in Wootton, so the Sloop was one of our locals and we started using this restaurant? about eight years ago. We have not been using this restaurant for about two years. This reason for this was due to poor service and the very bad local council hygiene report, it received. On Wednesday we gave it a try, to see if it had improved, it had, not by a lot. So last night not wanting to cook and having family over from the mainland, we tried it again. What a big mistake, the food was OK, but the service. We had to wait 45 minutes for our main course to arrive, one of our party had gone for the carvery, the rest of us for the other options. The chips arrived and were cold, the waiter replaced these with a bowl of hot chips. (this was one of the problems, from two years ago. We did a test on the chips to see how long it took for them to go cold 15 mins. We then had to wait for our puds to arrive 35 mins, we asked 3 times where was our puds. I did not see any Managment just staff two waiting staff, one barman, and the cooking staff. Will we be going back NO, we will we telling our Neighbours about the p-- poor service YES. will we be recommending this restaurant to anyone NO; will we be using a Stonehouse outlet again NO.

As the title says, just read the 1 star reviews for exactly our experience at the sloop, great location but my god get some staff behind the bar, a chef who knows how to cook a roast and send the staff serving it on a how to deal with the public course

Came in for a carvery today. Food was good and the service we got from Michelle was great. We will come back again soon.

El Sloop siempre ha sido uno de mis lugares favoritos para comer en la isla, ya que me encanta un buen asado! Ha sido recientemente renovada y convertida a convertirse en una pizzería y asador. Stonehouse Así como la pizza y asado tienen una amplia variedad de aperitivos, hamburguesas y postres. También sirven desayuno, tienen opciones vegetarianas disponibles todo el tiempo. Las porciones de carne se pierde como algunos talladores le dará mucho otros no será tan generoso. Que algunas veces se llena mucho y vale la pena, así que reserva y prepárate para colas en el mostrador. Si el personal está la bola luego normalmente todas las verduras y condimentos están llenos y, sin embargo si le falta algo, no miedo a pedir! También hay una zona de estar con vistas a la cala preciosa fuera perfecto para cuando el clima es más cálido. El personal con el que tuvimos contacto donde todos educados y serviciales. También tienen una zona con niños tomar una mesa de billar, máquinas de fruta y los deportes en la televisión. En general muy poco de qué quejarse! Buen lugar para una comida agradable!

Cuando oímos La Sloop habían tomado pensamos que le daría una segunda oportunidad, nos alegramos mucho de haberlo hecho, qué transformación. Hay muchas más opciones ahora Stonehouse han tomado el relevo, con la introducción de pizzas, hamburguesas y otras nuevas adiciones al menú. La experiencia es mucho mejor. Las pizzas son tan buena como un restaurante italiano, pero a mitad de precio. El personal es fantástico, lleno de sonrisas, y en general parecen disfrutar de su trabajo. Volveremos muy pronto.

Went as a family and was very busy with dirty tables and over worked young staff that cant keep up leading to very dirty tables that go uncleaned and very dirty floors. Although food typical of microwave fare it was edible but my daughter waited 45 mins for a trifle that bore no resemblance to a trifle..

Truly awful pub fare. Food is about as bad as it gets really. Nice location and garden though. Would stop for a drink in the garden on a sunny day. But eat elsewhere.

Not somewhere I would go again. Have tried it twice and wasn't impressed on either occasion. Cheap Carvery piled high, takes ages to get served, full of screaming Kids. Will suit some, but no good for that quiet Family Sunday Lunch.
