Very poor service The waitress at the bar with dyed hair when we went to order had a tremendously rude attitude, it honestly gave the impression that because she wasn't British you were simply bothering her. From what we have seen in other opinions, it has already happened to other clients. Very bad experience, I would definitely not return

Great place for a pint and a football match.

We had a good experience with a Greene King pub in Stratford-upon-Avon (Rose and Crown) so thought we’d try Stanhope Arms… Staff was attentive in getting the table for our reservation upon arrival, but ordering thru the app didn’t go so well. Order got slightly mixed up and our food was cold. Granted, they were busy, but it would’ve been nice if server checked on our table at least once without going to track him down.

The Beer is terrible. I had Two Pints in there and each of them were flat. Obviously some issue with the gas mixture. Staff don’t care otherwise they wouldn’t be serving it.

On a cold rainy day, stepped into this sweet pub and had their flatiron steak, and an amazing house cocktail made with Jameson and Fever Tree…. Yum!! If you’re in the area definitely stop by for a bite and I wish I had room to have their fish and chips too. Booked for five and had a very small table reserved (barely fitting two); we had to sort out that part ourselves. Very disappointed in the quality of the service: one of the young men at the counter was ignoring us for must of the time and was plainly rude when asked questions; a second one, although helpful, was not even aware of the fact that they have a menu for kids; luckily there was also a young woman that was very helpful. The food was good, not brilliant as I have read in other reviews. Prices are good. Because of the extremely poor welcoming of the first employee I was tempted to leave, I did not make it clear on the spot as I had guests visiting and I was hoping to give them a nice experience. Very likely won't visit again

I recently went to The Stanhope and without a shadow of doubt Chelsea was server of the year! Impeccable service, friendly, all of the good adjectives you’d want from a server! It was a stellar experience start to finish thanks to the service! Thanks again, A wallet-less Irishman

Another mediocre Greene King pub overcharging for a pint in Kensington. Paid almost double for what I pay in my local in Glasgow.

The place is a typical English tavern, the food is very good, we tried a special Sunday roast and the steak ale pie, a kind of meat pies, all very good. The service was good, we were served by two "innkeepers", one of them young, who was actually more interested in flirting than serving and he made a mistake with the order and we had to fix it with another innkeeper, this other excellent one, very kind and friendly.

Came for breakfast, absolutely great food. Really friendly staff.

My wife and I arrived at our Gloucester Road AirBnB after an 11 hour flight from Los Angeles and a 45 minute tube ride from Heathrow. Exhausted but starving, we ventured up the road and were overjoyed to find a proper traditional London pub not two minutes away. The Stanhope was the best thing that could have happened to us that damp and cold evening. It’s golden glow welcoming us in from the night. We were revived with ale and food and the happiness one only gets from returning home after many years away. A proper pint of Guinness and a steak pie and chips for me, pint of Stellar and fish n chips for the missus. And then back to the flat with full bellies for many sleeps. I look forward to my next meal at the Stanhope someday.

Avoid. Food was literally awful. Drinks overpriced.

The Stanhope shows a closing time of midnight on a Tuesday night both on their website & Google. We entered at 11pm, ordered a drink, to be immediately met with the bell at 11:05pm. The staff then proceeded to bring all furniture inside & make the general atmosphere as uncomfortable as possible until the second bell was rung around 20 minutes later. At this stage we were met with a staff member telling us they would be closing soon…. Nowhere near midnight, nowhere near the advertised hours. If you want to close early then crack on, but don’t advertise you close at midnight on your website & google when that is simply not the case. I hate establishments that do this. Poor experience. We drank up quickly and left. Won’t be returning 👍🏻

Lovely pub opposite Gloucester Road tube station. I made reservations two weeks in advance for 7 people on a Wednesday, and it was very well attended. Without a reservation it would not be possible for the group. The food was very good and the selection of drinks was also large. I liked it a lot. There is even a very useful filter on the Internet for eating without gluten. After the meal, no one wanted to clear away the empty plates, even when asked, they only took a few plates with them and left everything else lying around for ages, otherwise everything was fine

Stopped by for a quick pint for the first time. Location wise, it's perfect - right by Gloucester road station in one of London's most sought after areas. What I found very odd though, was the fact that the atmosphere & clientele were so rough, it almost felt like a rough pub in Swindon or the Welsh valleys. Not sure if there's a council estate nearby (I highly doubt it), but it felt very off. Most people were 50+, so you'd expect they're locals, but things just didn't add up in my imagination. Guess it's OK for a quick pint, but that's about it.

Great pub with excellent food! Traditional fare but very tasty. The beer selection and ability to watch sports is an added benefit! Give it a try!

Good English pub!! We had the full English breakfast which was delicious!! It has everything, very complete and you end up very full!! You don't have anything to eat afterwards. The beans are delicious, the sausages too, and the bacon good but not very crunchy. The hash brown was also delicious!

Walked in to the full house. But the bartender was kind enough to find me a table at the corner for one diner. He then patiently explain the amount of wine volume to me before charging me. The sausage I ordered came in 5 mins, they are precooked / boiled. Not very tasty but it’s was a quick fix on a Sunday evening peak hour.

Kensington is a place without drowning in the thousands of people in more central areas. Which makes this pub a good option to enjoy a pint or, in our case, a typical English breakfast. Only £9 and a lot of food on your plate. 1400 calories dictates the letter. Good place in front of Gloucester station! (Order and pay at the bar)

Do you like cold welcomes, withering looks from staff and being ordered around? Then this place is for you! Not for us tho.

Unfortunately, there was a lady who was absolutely awful behind the bar youngish with brown hair. Essentially, it was a very rude manner to an older colleague I was with. I observed the rudeness. Her colleague, an older lady, was 10 times better and lucky I did not give this a 1 star. Location is v good, grub average, but easy to see why Greek King pubs like these are dying a death.

Walked past the place a few times and decided to have dinner here because they had fish and ships. My son had never eaten it so a must when visiting England. Sat and waited 20 min and told the waiter we wanted to order 2 times, he just nodded but never came. Finally, I went to the bar myself to order a drink. After a while we asked another member of staff if we could order. Then she said you do it yourself in the bar. 🙄 Here you had sat hungry without being told how it worked. The table was not wiped down and was dirty, then the cutlery was thrown, and the staff did not seem to enjoy their job at all and walked around with sour faces. The food was good but unfortunately the service was abysmal.

We were actually walking to another restart when we passed by and thought we'd pop in. I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious. It was mid afternoon, so it was very quiet. The restaurant is beautiful with a historic and local feeling. Absolutely recommend The Stanhope Arms!

The manager and staff were amazing! I got the BBQ Chicken Pub Classic and it was 10/10! It was very delicious! This is such a nice calming place to come and have a drink and wind down from London! I would 100% recommend visiting here!

Unfortunately the food didn't taste like anything. The burger was without salt and the steak was probably reheated in the microwave. The ambience was fine

My friend and I (both 24) couldn't get a beer because they wanted to verify our age but we had left our passport at the hostel and they didn't accept other documents. we were very disappointed. I'm updating this review after 3 days because I would like to point out that in NO other place in London have we ever been asked for our ID to get alcohol and we have been to many places

Went here with my family for lunch and ended up going elsewhere to eat. We started by ordering drinks only to find out that half the taps were not actually available. We then went to order food only to be told that the sandwich’s we wanted to order were not available until after 4PM (that was not written on the menu and it was 1PM). We realized this was not a good sign and decided to just continue with drinks and the chip trio and wow I’ve never been so disappointed by an app/shareable. After waiting quite a while, the chips arrived soggy (not fully cooked), limited sauce on the chips, and honestly were just not good. After one bite my whole family decided not to continue eating (and we were all very hungry). Overall was very disappointed, so much so that it prompted me to write my first ever bad review

This was the closest pub to my hotel and I'm glad for it. Good beer selection, good gin selection, excellent food from what I tried. Standard pub fare plus some cool tricks. Location is across from the underground station, so very convenient for anyone ending their day in that part of town. We hit this spot several times in four days, and I'd go back again if we stayed longer.

Typical bar with a matching atmosphere. Excellent location, especially if you are touring the museums in the area. In general, the food is acceptable, although it does not go beyond that. The meatloaf was good, but the chicken they served us looked like it had been refrozen and had had better lives (both in color and texture and in flavor).

The food was very good. The only thing that was disappointing was that they didn't have much for cocktails. The one cocktail I did pick, they didn't have all the ingredient for. I ended up with a margarita, and it tasted basic at best.

The Stanhope is always my first stop when I get the Gloucester Road when I start my holiday in London. Excellent staff. Great pub grub and cold cider. What more do you need.

Good for a visit, a few more tables out the front would have been nice, the pic shows lots but when we visited there were only two.

Steak and ale pie was nice but the serving of chips was very small. One of our party ordered the steak sandwich which came overdone with only four bites of steak- it was awful and had to be sent back. The replacement (chicken BLT) took over 30 mins, we then cancelled it and got a refund for that portion of the meal. The staff were very good about it but the kitchen sadly has an issue.

Ushered out early by staff who obviously wanted to get home The Internet said midnight - the young lads said 11-40 Either the Internet is misleading or the management makes it up as they go along- Shame

It's been ages since I last drank here. It's a different social atmosphere now. Definitely family friendly. (Of course they, like most pubs, they now serve proper food) While I was there, Monday lunchtime, it was busy, but not over crowded. There was a good mix of society there, and like me, clearly enjoying the pub.

English pub with a typical bar food menu. The selection of draft beers was excellent. Although there were only two people at the fromt-of-house, things ran smoothly, and food was prepared and delivered quickly. We found the atmosphere good, although a little loud, and the menu was the same as what you could find almost anywhere.

Very good. We entered by chance and it was an excellent experience. The place doesn't seem to be for tourists (at least on the day we went we only saw English people), good service and good food. For us tourists, it was a good feeling to be in a place frequented by locals. :)

Busy pub. Food was just about okay. My chicken was borderline rubber and lukewarm. My wife had the Katsu burger,same story. The staff are really smiley........to each other. As soon as they engage the public they adopt their public dealing face which is sullen. Send in some secret shoppers Greene King and see what's really going on. Bad choice should have gone to Pizza Express

Popped in here for a beer from the tube in June 2024. Was magic outside with the evening sunshine on the front of the pub. Buzzing atmosphere inside with a great selection of drinks. As station pubs go, surely one of the best around London. Gloucester Road is a very nice area too, so well with a visit if ever nearby.

This restaurant looks like a typical British pub that has quite nice interior. However the London Pilsner I ordered was quite flat, the fish & chips was a bit bland & the Sunday roast was still ok,

We just stopped in for a very quick beer but it seemed like a great pub.

Came here to watch England game with a couple of friends and decided to order some food which was so mediocre for its price - cod goujons and sweet potato fries were bland and under seasoned. Ordered our first few drinks at the bar but then realised we could use QR code so used this instead, our drinks came quickly but we were rudely told by staff member to not use this and to just come to the bar as they were busy. I completely under stand they were busy due to the game but his manner was rude and how were we to know not to use the app ??

Food was horrible, no seasoning at all. Ordered drinks via QR code and got told off as people were ordering from the bar and that's what we were supposed as well apparently.

Don’t get me started on the food, all I can say is don’t bother. Truly was awful. We ordered via the app and the bartender came over and told us not to order via the app because it’s not fair for people waiting at the bar? He said next time to go queue with the rest of them. Either remove the option to order online or get enough staff to handle the volume of customers during a busy service. Atmosphere half decent because of the game but that’s all this place had going for it. Unimpressed and definitely won’t return.

This place refused service when i showed my national ID from Turkey. Which clearly states that I am 21 years old. They said they only accepted british passports. What kind of xenophobia is this? I am from Turkey therefore my ID is from turkish. an ID is always the first valid form of proof of age, which mine clearly stated is 21. The female bartender with coloured hair is an absolute rude person. Why work in hospitality if you can’t control your attitude?

Bad service. Booked a table and still had to wait, as nobody approached us or asked how they could help. The workers seemed almost annoyed by our presence

Apparently ththe female bartender with colored hair doesn’t like non British people… one thing is that you can’t serve me alcohol because I don’t have a British passport, but for some weird reason completely ignoring me while trying to get seated to my reserved table and order is also a part of the deal. I can understand from other reviews that I’m not the only one that had this kind of experience. I hope she learns to behave better. The young runner was very nice though and provided good service:)

I am a tourist who lives nearby and came into this store by chance. I really like the atmosphere, the food is delicious, the beer is delicious, and the staff at the counter are friendly and cute.

Experienced extreme discrimination from the blonde coloured hair female bartender based on my nationality. She told Me they only serve British nationals. This must be a joke and illegal. Never visiting again.
