Topolys Italian in Gloucester

I had a lovely three-course meal at this hidden gem! As someone born and raised in this city, I was surprised I’d never heard of this place before. I love supporting local restaurants over big chains, so choosing this spot for Italian food was an easy decision. I visited with a couple of friends around 5 pm after work, and we had the restaurant to ourselves, which was a nice touch. For starters, I had the salad Caprese, followed by ravioli for the main course, and profiteroles for dessert. Everything was delicious, and I’d happily visit again and recommend it to others!

Visited as a xmas treat to ourselves. The food was very good and presented well. The place has a very nice feel and enjoyed our evening. I had a pasta dish with salmon which was delicious. Only slight moan would be that I asked for some chilli in it. Tbf the waitress did say there might be a charge which was OK. When eating my meal I got a kick of chilli then nothing. I could see a sprinkle of dried chilli had been sprinkled on top that fot £1.50 I thought was a bit cheeky as most Italians I have been in have it in a grinder. Not about the money as spent £72 pounds but the principle. That aside would recommend this place for a lovely meal

Visited with work colleagues. We’d pre-ordered from the set menu and paid the £10 deposit. A couple of people couldn’t make it in the end, so they accepted that they would lose their deposit, however we also had to pay for the meals they’d ordered, so felt if they were going to that, we should have all just paid the whole amount up front! However, none of that mattered as much as the food itself. The starter was ok-ish, very dry ciabatta toast and smooth pate with a tiny bit of a very sweet chutney and limp rocket. The main course was a tortellini pasta - I think it was something with mushrooms in, but hard to tell. It was the tomato sauce over it that was the issue though. I think it had been there earlier in the day, but by the time it was served it was an evaporated mush. Won’t be returning.

Lovely small restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The food was excellent and plentiful. Good value. The service was very attentive, almost too much with different servers asking the same questions in quick succession but not too intrusive.

A lovely experience. Decent food, delicious and well-presented, friendly service and a nice relaxed atmosphere. We'll definitely come more often, to what is one of the few traditional independent restaurants left in the city centre.

10 for dinner booked well in advance . Found ourselves tucked into a cramped table upstairs. Servers were exceptional polite courteous and in fairness the starters came quick they were all cold dishes so they may have been prepared earlier ? . Mine a seafood salad at about 8 quid was sloppy salad and not much seafood cheapest prawns lack of mixture of other seafood, tasteless and disappointing. Main was king Prawn in a tomato sauce and salad . Insalata di mare starter Gamberetti re del mar great names poor execution. Didn't stay for dessert went home for Birthday cake . Reasonable prices perhaps a bit dearer and better produce . Will take a lot for me to return voluntarily but will go back as usual within a year or so . Thanks for 10k plus views last month and keeping us in the top 20% we really appreciate it

We ate there with our children. The food was very good and the desserts (cheesecake and brownie) were delicious. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly. We finally had a real coffee! We would definitely return

Wow! FRIENDLY and HELPFUL staff who go above and beyond . Clearly enjoy their work. The food was presented BEAUTIFULLY and tasted DELICIOUS! I would recommend this venue to everyone . Excellent value for money, out doing anywhere at the quays with such a welcoming atmosphere you feel like you’re really having a lovely dining experience! Support local and independent! You won’t be disappointed

We come here as often as we are able. Our favourite restaurant and a go to for our anniversary, which it is tonight. Food is amazing. Authentic and tasty. Lovely atmosphere too. In addition to the fab food, the wine menu u is awesome.

Easy to find restaurant. First course I had mussels and they were the big ones and were a it tough. The main course I had was salmon salad. It came a flakes nit a fillet and was overcooked. The Tiramisu was the vest I ever had! A mixed bag.

Incredible restaurant with amazing food. We sat upstairs & it was beautiful, staff were very attentive & checked on us every 10 or so minutes so we were never waiting to order anything that we needed. I didn’t get a photo of my steak but it was cooked perfectly & my boyfriend’s burger was amazing. The wait time for food was very little, we barely had to wait even on a Saturday evening. My favourite place in the world🫶🏻

Lovely food with lots of flavour. Great ambience and very friendly staff. Update: went again recently for table of 15. The staff were attentive, food was excellent, correct and really tasty, atmosphere was superb. Would highly recommend, thank you to team Topolys!

Absolutely love coming to topolys, hands down my favourite Italian. I am a bit stubborn in my food choices but you can’t go wrong with the carbonara. Lovely food, great staff and a really good atmosphere!

I give 1 on trust. We wanted to eat something vaguely Italian but when I approached the menu I ran away. There is no right ingredient in carbonara. Not even one. But how do you propose a milestone of Roman cuisine with ham instead of bacon, cream instead of cremina made with egg and pecorino? What does parsley have to do with it? White wine? Mixed herbs? Help .

Wonderful food reasonable prices nice atmosphere

Busy night food was good, starter of mussels could have had a few more, only 4 given. Rest of starters good. Mains good. Had brownie and ice-cream brownie could have been warmed up. Staff could have been more attentive other than that a nice night out.

They accommodated us last minute in this popular restaurant, and we had a fantastic evening. The menu catered for tastes across three generations. The whitebait starter; the ravioli with artichokes as well as the risotto with prawns; and the white choc profiteroles were especially delicious. The service was lovely too. We’ll be back.

Pricey but a wonderful Italian restaurant in the heart of Gloucester. Came here for a work retirement party and the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Unfortunately the restaurant itself is a bit cramped. Would be great if Topolys could branch out and find a larger location!

Great food as always, my favourite place in Gloucester! However this time round they forgot my garlic bread with cheese and I’m a little devastated! Even still id highly recommend topolys, I’d write more but I’m still crying over my lack of garlic bread 😭😂

The food was delicious. Not a single wrong. Everything cooked to perfection. Staff were lovely. Can’t wait to visit again.

Staying in Gloucester for one night and picked Topolys on basis of reviews one on arrival found it to be popular with locals! Plain exterior but good warm atmosphere inside. Excellent food in good sized portions from friendly waitresses. Just one of those it all felt good evenings!

We had a party for 16 family and friends. We were made so welcome. We had pre-ordered so we were served quickly with really excellent food, hot, tasty and well presented. We were not rushed and were able to enjoy a very relaxed evening. Every one enjoyed themselves and it was not expensive.

What a gem of a place. The food is excellent, really top quality and the service is so professional and friendly. Importantly you are attended to in such a nice way, not rushed and the staff really know their produce. If you live in Gloucester or visiting like me, this is definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic food and service. Mussels starter are sublime as was the calamari… I had 2 starters it was that good. Very well run and friendly place staff are great we had a lovely evening again, we have been twice.

It’s been a long time since we visited Topoly’s and that was a mistake, great food and service, very reasonably priced and good portions, good news all round, we will be back again much sooner 👍

Food wasn’t prepared until after delivery time originally 7.30-7.45, delivery was extended to 8.05, but arrived at 9.10, meaning restaurant were to blame. Delivery was 15 minutes as expected once tracking showed ready. Won’t buy from this restaurant again.

Really really good, fresh food. Everything with personal touch and attention to details. We were genuinely surprised and enjoyed very much every bit of evening.

If I could give more stars, I would give more. The food is delicious, the service is excellent. Keep it up. If I'm back, it means it's good.

Delivery delayed twice, quantity about half that of a standard Chinese or Indian meal, too much salt. Certainly not worth £50 to feed three people. A considerable drop in both quantity and quality since we last ordered from this restaurant.

Would highly recommend if you are visiting the area and wish to dine in a chain free independent restaurant. Food was excellent as well as the service.

We had not been here before but my family had and recommended it. We visited on a quiet Monday evening and even so the atmosphere was warm and friendly and the staff attentive. We all had different dishes and the food was plentiful, well cooked and nicely presented. Only negative is that there was no beer/ale available - just lager, wine or spirits - the addition of a bottled beer would be a good idea!

Amazing food and a nice atmosphere that’s reasonably priced.

Awful experience, food was appalling burger was burnt and dry. There was a hair in brownie absolutely revolting. Staff were really patronising and flippant throughout the experience and especially at the end. Would not recommend!

Great quality food and wine. Very helpful and accommodating waitress too. I was very impressed at the courtesy and discussion we enjoyed. This is a family owned business and the evidently take pride in their trade. I will definitely make this a regular visit.

Friendly, efficient service. Delicious authentic Italian cuisine, well cooked and presented. Everyone should support these independents - so much better than large chains that have taken over our highstreets.

After spending all day exploring the cathedral, we wanted to sit down for a tasty dinner. My husband loved his pasta with seafood and I devoured my cannelloni. There was a large family party and the restaurant managed to keep everyone happy and provided outstanding and friendly service. Strongly recommend this nice restaurant!

Fabulous restaurant I organised a group booking for 21 persons. Staff were both friendly and efficient. We had a very good evening, tasty food and such a choice on the menu. Would certainly recommend.

Food was very late it’s early to blame delivery but on top of that the food was disappointing as it was are first time we will never get it again

Went for a birthday dinner with wife and daughter, first time for about 3 years and delighted to find that everything was still as good as last time. I went for the bruschetta al pomodoro to start, VERY generous topping and delicious pesto, then the penne montana for main. And of course their gorgeous home made Tiramisu for dessert! Very nice (and sensibly priced!) house red to drink.

Friendly (but rather inefficient) service. Remarkably poor food. (Overcooked pasta; bolognese sauce lackking in flavour; putanesca sauce with weird slices of salami). Why pay £20 for somethign you can easily make at home for £2? At their prices, you should expect much better food.

Visited Topolys on Saturday evening after rugby at Kingsholm. As there was 11 of us we had to pre-order which worked out brilliant. Not long after arriving, ordering drinks are starters were arriving. Food was delicious, tasty and a decent portion size. Review would have been a 5 but the salad was frozen!!! However a replacement fresh salad was soon served. Thank you for a n enjoyable and memorable meal.

The most amazing italian place to go to. My friend and I love to try different restaurants and we stumbled upon Topoly's a few months ago and have been numerous times since. Afordable and delicious. The staff are amazing and friendly, I have never had a bad experience. It is the best garlic bread and spaghetti bolognaise i have ever had, even as a takeaway it doesn't drop in quality.
