Winedown in Preston

Winedown is my favourite spot in Preston. It is such a cosy, welcoming, cool location with candles and fairy lights. The wine, sourced by the owner Dougie, is amazing, reasonably priced, and varied from all over the world. The cheese and meat boards are absolute heaven and the nachos are possibly the food I want on my death bed. If you're going to visit just one place in Preston, please make it Winedown. Perfect for dates, girls' nights, solo glasses of wine with a book, family evenings, and more. Also, they do regular events like wine tastings, open mic nights, and an awesome fortnightly quiz!

We attended here as a group of 25 for a special birthday celebration! The communication leading up to the event was fabulous- they were so accommodating! The evening was fantastic, the food that was preordered was delivered just when we wanted it and it was amazing! The nachos went down a treat! The whole team made the celebration special and I can highly recommend this as a venue for a special occasion. Thank you!

You could easily miss this place as it’s very unassuming from the outside. It’s is a small setting but has a feel about it as soon as you walk in. A lot of tables reserved so was really glad we nabbed the last table. The wine list is extensive so the friendly staff member recommended a lovely rose for us and it did not disappoint. We savoured every sip while we tucked into our deli artisan board, lovely fresh ingredients and worth every penny. Lots of finger type foods to choose from so I’ll have to go back and try some more! So friendly in here that it would be almost impossible not to come back. The only downside is that the chairs are wooden and quite hard and it could do with some cushions to protect bums .

Loved our time here. Probably due to the various glasses of wine we had! Loved the ability to have 50ml measures so you could have a few different wines across the session. The candlelit atmosphere was nice and calming. (We did go early afternoon on a Saturday, it was getting more buzzy by the time we left). The folk at the bar were friendly and the wine list was extensive. We tried a few orange wines and a few red. The ancient vines one available by the glass was the best. Curly haired server dude who’s just finished at uni was super friendly and helped us on our wine journey. Sorry we don’t remember your name! Too much wine 😂

Fantastic wine tasting with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Enjoyed 6 wines highlighting different grape varieties and only just about resisted to buy one of the excellent looking cheeseboards to pair with it!

Loved our trip here - we ordered the Deluxe board which consisted of bread, meats and cheese. The wine choice is incredible but I can highly recommend the Salice Salentino! All the food was superb, a great mix of cheese and meats with some delicious bread and houmous. The olives in particular are amazing!

We came for the wine down quiz and loved it! We have been returning as often as we can. Amazing place and staff, cracking choice of wine and always a brilliant night :)

Winedown preston is a small cozy bar just off the main fishergate street. Blink and you will miss it, so keep your eyes wide open and you will be delighted. The entrance takes you down a flight of stairs to the main bar area situated below street level. It's cozy candle lit atmosphere takes you to a calmer place away from the hustle and bustle. The wine list is amazing, but there are beers and spirits also. An absolute must is the cheese board designed for sharing over a drink and a chat whilst your taste buds have a party hopping through the selection of fruity,tangy,spicy cheeses. This bar is an absolute must visit for anyone. I found it by accident, and just keep going back.

An amazing place! After living in Barcelona we couldn’t believe it when we saw this place in Preston - really reminded us of our favourite Spanish bars. Amazing wine and really delicious food and very affordable. Staff were really friendly and helpful. An absolute gem!

Good different selection of wine, food basic cheese, pickles crackers etc. Area, atmosphere basic, historical building cellar, be nice maybe to have some interesting information about buildings history.

What a real gem, hidden away underground in the heart of Preston with a vast selection of tasty wines for every discerning palette. Oh and the Cheeseboards……..awesome.

Would quickly return to this wine bar which you’d be surprised to find in Preston. Very cosy.

Beyond expectations as always, Dougie the manager/owner, also caters to non wine lovers with rums/whiskies and has a selection of sweet wines unlike any bar nearby. There is also at least 4-5 pages of wine on double sided a4 pages, plus the cheese and the candle- lit ambiance making it a lovely place overall

I just love this place and love introducing friends and family here. When you walk down the stairs you could be anywhere in the world, a hidden cellar bar gem. Service is always great and if you like cheese then you’ll think you are in heaven! Definitely recommend the dipping pots. So good! They even play good music.

Only went for drinks but the choice of wine was amazing and the place is very atmospheric will definitely return.

What an amazing little bar. Was the first time trying it for our anniversary, and we weren’t disappointed. A very romantic and cosy place, fantastic service. Absolutely gorgeous food. Amazing selection of wines. You don’t feel like you’re on the middle of Preston city centre, feels more like the wine bars you find abroad. We will definitely be going again soon

Underground bar with a great selection of wines and spirits, superb cheeses and deli boards and eclectic music. All the staff are superb - love it !!

Great experience at Winedown again. The wine list is enormous, excellent for those who know their wines, but can be daunting for the average person. Luckily they all have a brief description of their taste and where they are from. Wine ranges from cheap to very expensive, luckily there is a lot of bottles in an excellent price range and cheaper than the nearby competition. The service is great, the staff running the place know so much about the wine, meats and cheeses and are happy to help with any questions or requests. The atmosphere is very dark but there are plenty of candles around, your eyes do adjust but it can be hard to read the menu without a light on hand. I recommend visiting this place if you are looking for a moody atmosphere with good wine and cheese amongst good company.

We came here on Thursday 20th for a date- it was about 5pm on a hot sunny day, so we were the only people in. It is in the cutest little cellar in Preston, entirely candlelit. Really romantic atmosphere! It was an intimate and delightful experience. Selection of wines was fantastic, and we tried a few glasses we had never even heard of before. Staff were lovely and helpful, happy to chat about their recommendations. We didn't try their deli but we are already planning to come back to try some more wine, a cheeseboard, and to have a go at the quiz.

This is a great find in Preston. Doesn’t look much from outside but once you go down stairs into the bar area it’s fabulous. Lovely wine and food at reasonable price. Definitely recommend.

This is an absolute gem of a place!! Cheese and meat boards were excellent, best we've had in the UK. The wine list is amazing too, with a range of choice at sensible prices that's simply unmatched in Preston (red wine list has 5 pages of wines between 23 and 35, and even more choice above this price point) Atmosphere was chilled out and Dougie and the crew gave us a lovely warm welcome, even though it was our first visit. We will certainly be back soon :)

One of Preston's hidden gems. With its candles and twinkly lights, this place transports you and feels like you could be in a trendy wine bar on Las Ramblas! Cheese platters are excellent and the choice of wine is incredible. We had a Portuguese and a Georgian red, both of which were delicious. The staff are very friendly, chatty and welcoming. The atmosphere is delightful and always seems to attract a lovely crowd. It's unique, nowhere else quite like it in Preston, so somewhere to really treasure.

Loads of wines! Friendly service! Lots of games to play. Last time we came there were loads of cheese too but this a bit disappointed they didn't seem to have any

So perfect to mix it up & learn what you like and don't like, this list is also regularly updating. Owner is a really friendly bloke and more than happy to help find a wine you'll like. If you're in Preston it's well worth a visit! 10/10

Can’t believe this place has been open 7 years and we’ve only just discovered it! Huge selection of wines to accompany the cheese, charcuterie and other tasty nibbles. Relaxed atmosphere with great music and all for very reasonable prices. Really friendly staff with an extensive knowledge about their fare. The owner, Dougie, is a top bloke, and Mick let my wife sample several wines before she chose a bottle. Thanks for your hospitality, fellas, we had a first-class evening and shall return soon!

Stunning quaint little underground wine bar! Great little anti pasti platters and the biggest selection of wine I've ever seen. Very romantic mood lighting and fairy lights. Utterly perfect place.

Went here with friends last night and it was lovely. We were recommended a nice bottle of rose by our waiter who was very helpful and friendly. Best part was the food - we ordered a selection of dishes including a deluxe board with yummy cheeses and charcuterie with breads and hummus /olives etc.We were also given a delicious free baked Camembert with our bottle of wine as a Thursday night offer. Cosy little wine cellar with a nice vibe to catch up with friends or have a romantic date night. We will definitely be back.

Called in on speck, early Saturday evening. Only couple of other customers in. We decided on a Marlborough Sauvignon blanc and the Artisan deli board. Had a lovely relaxing time grazing through the board. Excellent cheeses and charcuterie, really enjoyed them. Highly recommended

Winedown is a hidden gem. It’s owner Dougy and his staff are extremely friendly and also are of the high quality that remember customers. I recently took some relatives in from Norway, they had been previously and insisted on going again. The selection of drinks is large, they are well served and the deli side of things is always good quality with homemade hummus. Going to Winedown is like going to your own secret club. If you appreciate good things go to Winedown once and you will be hooked.

I’ve been around the block a few times and have never found a more welcoming establishment. Great wines, great beers, a landlord with more banter than you can shake a stick at and the best pub quiz I’ve ever done. Can’t recommend enough!

I’ve been visiting Winedown for a few years now, having moved to the area in 2019, it was nice to find a wine bar with a diverse and eclectic range of wines. It’s a friendly little bar, quaint, small, not at all snooty or aloof....
