My husband and I have returned home after our second stay at The Peak Hotel in Castleton. It’s been a couple of days since we checked out of this establishment albeit a day earlier than we had originally booked for. I needed to reflect on our latest experience before submitting a review. I normally leave this side of things to my husband but our stay started and ended so badly that I felt compelled to write my own personal account and overall conclusion. I can say with absolute honesty that I have never been made to feel so undervalued and treated in such an awful manner by any other establishment where I have booked to stay. Both staff and management at The Peak Hotel have left me feeling hurt, upset and angry at the appalling way they dealt with both myself and my husband after we had to continually complain about loud and intrusive music coming from the kitchen which sat directly below our bedroom- more notably directly below the head of the bed. We complained a total of five times to both staff and management and this was over less than a 48 hour period . We checked in on the Sunday afternoon and had no choice but to check out by lunchtime on the Tuesday. We weren’t actually due to leave until Wednesday morning. We still had much planned whilst in beautiful Castleton 🧡 I really don’t know what more we could have done or said to have gotten some respite from the awful and continual din that invaded our room, our personal space and our r&r on a daily basis. Even having to go downstairs to complain twice in my pyjamas. It was beyond unacceptable. And to be told time and time again that it would be dealt with and then it start up again, just makes you feel exhausted and eventually beaten into submission. You just have to admit defeat. We never once asked for the music to be turned off only to be turned down. We didn’t expect anyone to work in silence but the lack of consideration shown back to us was staggering. On the last day just before midday when we had once again returned to our room after making the fourth complaint to another staff member and being assured once again that it would be dealt with and the manager would come and see us, the music started up again. This time however it really felt like mockery towards us. At this point I burst into tears and we decided we could no longer stand to be there. It didn’t feel like a nice or welcoming place to be. It took on a darker tone. There had been an offer on that morning to potentially move us to another room but no guarantees. We didn’t ask or want that. We just wanted some peace and quiet and some respect be shown to us by staff members. It really wasn’t too much to ask and anyway , we were checking out the following morning. My husband tried one last time to speak to the manager (he didn’t come and see us either) who had initially been very apologetic towards our situation. Unfortunately he had turned very defensive and uninterested and stated that he ‘didn’t think the music was that bad’. However at my husband’s request, he was totally unwilling to come up to our room and listen to it for himself. It was that bad that we could hear and recognise actual songs and word for word lyrics. But still he maintained his stance. We asked for a room reduction or something off our bill as a gesture of goodwill and acknowledgment on his part but this wasn’t forthcoming either. We were offered another night free of charge at a later date. My husband explained that we had no desire to ever stop at The Peak Hotel again after the way we had been treated. The complimentary night would have been acceptable if it could have been knocked off our bill for the night we missed. This again was rebuffed. Therefore we were charged the bill in full on our departure. No apologies were given. The first stay we had here last October was absolutely faultless hence why we returned this year. There was also a lovely vegetarian option on the menu for Sunday dinner on our first stay. This time around there wasn’t and when I enquired if there was a vegetarian option to the waitress, I was bluntly told ‘no’ before she walked off. I did also ask the manager about this when I saw him on the Monday. He told me that their chef was ‘traditional when it came to Sunday roasts’. He did however add that he himself wanted to see a non-meat alternative added back onto the menu. As the manager, surely he could insist that the chef caters for all? Doesn’t make any sense. I ended up with a very below average burger and fries for my Sunday dinner. So in conclusion, I wouldn’t recommend staying here or even visiting whether it be for a drink or a meal. The place is currently run by people who only care about themselves and their clique. Tourism is quite obviously a necessity in the running of the business as I’m sure much needed revenue is generated from this. However…we were definitely made to feel like irrelevant non-natives rather than valued customers. I have worked within the specialist retail industry for almost thirty years. The thought that any customer of mine would go away feeling as upset and trampled on as we did on Tuesday by my actions and attitude towards them is unthinkable. I know you can’t please all of the people all of the time but you can certainly try your hardest and do the best you can to make everyone feel valued. No one should ever be made to feel so belittled. I always try and put myself in someone else’s shoes when they feel hurt and upset by the actions of others. I would strongly suggest that Graham and his ‘team’ also try this approach and hopefully it will evoke some kind of empathy and better understanding on how to treat customers and visitors with more respect and understanding going forward. The way you allowed things to end when we left was so unprofessional and how you made us feel was beyond unpleasant. Shame on you. Maybe ask their ‘traditional’ chef to bake a large humble pie so they can all have a good slice and reflect. Good luck 🤞🏻

Visited here on 'Christmas lights switch on' afternoon/evening, and what a lovely cafe. We both had a panini and a milkshake. The staff were very friendly, the coleslaw was amazing and the milkshake were one of the best either of us have had for a very long time.

Our favourite pub in Castleton. Cozy and welcoming, and their food is homemade. The beef for Sunday Lunch was excellent and the braised red cabbage was almost as good as my wife's. I also had Shepard's pie on Friday, and would highly recommend it.

Booked a table for a family Christmas lunch on a mid December weekend, specified this as a note on the booking. On the day we were told that you could only have the Christmas menu if you had preordered. At no point when booking online or after had we been asked to preorder and the Christmas menu on the website had not stated preordering was necessary. I had also called pub to confirm booking and hadn't been notified then either. It put a real dampner on a lunch we were all excited for. Made worse by the fact that we were surrounded by other big tables being served from the Christmas menu and with crackers etc and ours was a simple roast. They did offer to add turkey as an alternative to the meat on any of the normal roasts after making a bit of a fuss but the rest of the menu was not avaliable. I love overseas and was looking forward to a traditional Christmas meal and dessert, so a very disappointing visit.

Called in for a drink on Saturday lunchtime. Really good atmosphere & very friendly bar staff. We asked how long it would take to walk to the station for our train back to Sheffield & Kath insisted on giving us a lift . We now have a new local in the Hope Valley. Will be returning soon.

Lovely friendly staff, and welcoming for dogs. Been to this pub a few times of the last 30yrs, also stayed here. Very welcoming. However, on this occassion, with constructed criticism here-The meals on this particular day, at the high cost charged, with poor portions delivered. I ordered fish, chips and peas, and I'm sorry to say this, where was the homemade chips? as I got frozen deep fried, and I left them. There was just a tablespoon of mushy peas on the plate , fish was beautiful. Hubby had the steak pie and he gives it 7/10, as the pastry was hard and minimal gravy and dried out peas. I was going to speak to your member of staff, but, she had several waiting, and some leaving, and she avoided me. Wed, 28th Oct, lunch time. Hope to come here again, and I hope the food will be better next time. Thank you

Came for lunch with the family and massively enjoyed my veggie roast. Nice mushroom and pumpkin seed slice with well cooked veggies, a plate so full I couldn’t finish and tonnes of flavour. Yummy G&T and very attentive staff. Thank you!
