This is my nearest Table Table restaurant since Whitbread decided to close The Centurion at Tamworth. I have visited this establishment twice and on both occasions I found the service and the food excellent. There is an excellent choice of meals available that is good value for money. I would use this place more often if it wasn't over 40 miles for a round trip. If you are looking for a good meal at a value for money price and a very friendly atmosphere I would definitely recommend this venue.

Being avid visitors to this pub and their sister venues we were so excited to book a breakfast with Santa and on Christmas Eve made it all the more magical! We’ve come home and I’ve felt compelled (despite the day!) to write this as I’m just so bewildered by the whole ‘experience’. Our booking was at 10. We waited 20 mins to be given a tiny fruit juice (mine was only a half-filled glass). I had hoped to ask why this was but staff, albeit minimal, were raced off their feet. We were given a tiny pastry each. Our food came at 11.10 which was over an hour after sitting there! We had got our little girl a Christmas activity book but chose not to bring it as we imagined we wouldn’t have had time! That was a mistake. She was understandably bored (as were we!) and waiting for a glimpse of the man in red! No such luck! When would he be joining in the breakfast was a continuous question! Soon, we hoped! Usually the pub is excellent at catering for families. We asked for some colouring (standard, usually) but none was available. We would have thought Christmas colouring would have been nice. The music wasn’t even Christmas songs- Waterloo by ABBA was one! Our six year old was bored and hungry (as were we!) having had a glass of milk for breakfast and a small banana in a bid to save ourselves for this wonderful breakfast! The food was good when it arrived, though beans were missing and we had to ask. The unlimited tea and coffee was nowhere to be seen. We asked for one cup which appeared about 15 minutes later. No more was offered or appeared to be available. We asked for a bottle of tap water for the table. A young girl slammed it down and walked off, without glasses. We asked again for glasses the next time she walked past. There was still no sign of Santa- given that this experience was sold as with him, this was peculiar! After paying, we were asked to wait in a makeshift gazebo. A lady was pairing faces which was a nice touch. However, there was Christmas colouring (sheets of plain paper!) and connect 4 and jenga. We waited in here for over half an hour. Hot chocolate and mulled wine were offered to adults but nothing for children. We didn’t see Santa until 12.20 which was in a little grotto. The Santa was realistic and the gift was nice. However, if we wanted to just see Santa we would have booked this elsewhere. We feel that this whole experience was disappointing. We had hoped for Santa to pop around the tables and interact with the children which was in the name ‘breakfast with Santa’. This was breakfast then visit Santa- absolutely not the same. Without the risk of sounding like the grinch (!) if your staff aren’t keen on working on Christmas Eve, simply don’t offer it. It was a lot of waiting for essentially a nice breakfast and 5 minutes with Santa. Having travelled over 30 mins to get there we feel we have wasted half the day. Again, these comments would have been happily passed onto staff, if we had seen any for long enough to communicate with them. Must do better, Bull’s Head. Sorry.

Booked a table for 5 people. Turned up could smell a damp/mildew stench. Asked for drinks, nothing on tap only bottled. Sat at table and said to the wife that I can't eat in here with that smell. It was cold in there aswell. Four others were sat at their table with big coats on. Phoned the brother-in-law from outside to tell him we'll go somewhere else. Went back in to the wife and drinks had come. I necked my pint and the wife left a watered down pint of cider. Asked barman how much I owed for the drinks. He said shall we call it a tenner, I gave him it and said we won't be stopping to eat because the smell was overwhelming. He said the roof near the kitchen had collapsed months ago which is probably the cause of the smell. Such a shame as this pub grub used to be great. The decor bought back memories as it was the same years ago. The pub needs gutting. I wouldn't use it to keep cows in, in its current state. Andy

What a cracking little pub this is! A warm welcome and an excellent selection of ales and ciders, I can heartily recommend the Bee Sting honey cider…it’s strong but absolutely delicious. We’ll certainly be going back.

Called in for the first time after a visit to the nearby Arboretum..pub was pretty quiet but was cosy & welcoming..we had a lovely lunch followed by coffees in comfy armchairs by the fire. The chef came out & chatted to us for a while & the landlady was so friendly too..this venue is just what you hope for when you visit a country pub & I’m sure we will be back!

Great food. Home cooked and fantastic gluten free menu. Friendly staff. Servings are big and delicious. We only had room for a main course.

We drove over after a long hiatus - and very little has changed. The staff are uniformly polite and efficient - especially the lovely lady in the restaurant (originally from The Wirral) who I enjoyed a conversation with as she busily wiped tables. We went for coffee, ended up having a very well cooked lunch. Easy to negotiate around even with the Christmas goods appearing - not sure how I'd cope in my wheelchair though. For instance, the price list for cards was tacked up very high behind the top tier - I did mention this to a staff member who said she would 'do something about it' - I would hope so. And I would also hope that in time - a separate loo specifically for disabled customers (Radar key opening) that doesn't have to be shared with nappy changing facilities. Confined spaces and wheelchairs are not a happy mix. With so much investment in a new aquatic section - maybe some could be spared to improve that unsatisfactory situation? After all, you'd seldom see a fish using a mobility aid...... Downside - a lack of parking for the disabled - Over 60's day attracts a lot of customers who are less able - and the selfish idiots who choose to park over the lines thus taking up two valuable spaces. Perhaps the store could invest in a 'tannoy' system so that such people could receive a none too discreet reminder?
