The best restaurants in Chipping Ongar, Greensted and Marden Ash Epping Forest East of England

First visit to Tanishq after being a regular at the other restaurant. A very smart and impressive venue with an attractive bar and great lighting. Food was excellent with some nice surprises and fresh ideas. Great to see familiar staff with fantastic service and hospitality. Chef sent some amuse-bouche for us to try and a side dish for our meal choices, all was delicious. Looking forward to returning soon and trying some of the desert menu which were different to those normally found in similar restaurants. Thoroughly recommend.

We had a table of 8 for my 70th Birthday celebrations and I couldn’t have chosen a better place. I was a little apprehensive but as soon as I met Katherine (Owner) prior to our booking i was immediately drawn to the place. In regard to the food everything I ask for came out onto the table the food was amazing it was so delicious. We chose a Meze starter followed by Salmon, Shish Chicken and Lamb Skewers with the most delicious salads and vegetables and flat breads to die for, we also had Gorgeous Pavlova and a very varied Cheese Board for dessert the presentation was lovely, I honestly think Katherine old mke a boiled egg look pretty. Our food was served by Peter who assisted Catherine and he makes a very good Waiter. There was nothing we could fault and we definitely will be returning hopefully in the not too distant future. A birthday meal out with family was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The food was outstanding, service very friendly and attentive. One member of our group has an allergy was dealt with without any fuss or bother. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to all.

Delicious pizza and great value

Fabulous food, great service & a wonderful atmosphere! My wife & I visited The Porterhouse last night & we're both so impressed by this local eaterie that I felt compelled to post a review to say so. The food was excellent throughout & served so attentively that everything arrived exactly as we were ready for it. The atmosphere was wonderfully welcoming. On a cold January evening we we're warmly invited into a cosy & comfortable setting. Thank you Porterhouse, we'll be back!

Despite living in Ongar I had never actually been here before, but I will definitely be back. After the Ongar Deli closed a number of years back we’ve always driven out of Ongar for breakfast/ brunch / lunch as in my opinion there aren’t any decent options. So pleased to have found this spot for a nice easy brunch, good menu, no fuss, perfect!

I went here with my other half for the first time and had a lovely meal. No starters, a curry each and shared a side and naan. Not bad food and thought we will come back. That is until the bill came… The total was £81 (I would note written in a different pen to the rest of the bill) so we just went through to check they hadn’t added anything extra on as it did seem quite dear for what we had had. All looked fine. Then we looked at the totals and did a rough count up in our head and thought it couldn’t be right. Now we don’t normally sit going through our bill when we go out to eat as you like to think you can trust it is ok. Sometimes mistakes happen but we can’t see this was a mistake. We ended up being those people who got their phones out to calculate to ensure our mental maths wasn’t failing us and sure enough it totalled £51. We added it 3 times to check. I was giving the staff the benefit of the doubt trying to see that the 5 had just looked like an 8 but it was 100% an 8. Also they had written £81.50 and the bill was in actual fact £51.15 so even the pence was wrong. My other half handed it back and just said “there is a mistake” and with no fuss the waiter took it away and brought it back to us amended to sure enough £51.15 and the waiter just said “you are right.” So all the behaviour alluded to the fact they knew they had tried it on with us. They also couldn’t thank us enough when we left. I was presented with quite a large chocolate bar when the bill came which was quite random and could have been a distraction technique. We got it resolved no fuss or dramas but it’s a shame as the food and atmosphere was nice but it’s not nice to know you are trying to be conned. Just makes us wonder how many other people they’ve done it to who haven’t noticed or questioned it. A 60% mark up is huge!! Sad to say we won’t be going back.

I can’t write a review on Turkwise as it is no longer in Ongar it is now a wine bar Turkwise has not been in Ongar for a good six months

Very nice breakfast in a comfortable cafe ,good service with a choice of items so you can build your own breakfast nice coffee to .

Wow, seriously amazing burgers, out done places like Hard rock cafe. 5 of us had different meals from the menu all great.

1st visit here , Saturday night very busy inside the food was lovely , pleasant staff aswell overall bill £70 for 3 of us for 3 mains and popadons to start , would return

Outstanding food and service. Staff very welcoming and looked after every aspect of service and delivery of such beautiful food! Worth travelling 2 hours to eat here.
