So last Saturday 23november we ordered takeaway our usual from the 2 set sections on menu asked the price when told yet again price had gone up another £3 odd so okay everything has … but when it arrived they have cut the portions down I always have beef curry egg fried rice served in same box well it was very dry I’d say 65%35% curry was not happy, pancake roll had literally 1 prawn in it an nothing but bean shoots an they charged us for delivery we only live by airport so next day I rang Timbo house an spoke to the lady who was very rude to me said the meal is always like that I told her Noway I’ve been having it for years then I questioned her about Delivery charge she said we have always been charged again Noway …I said are you going to do anything about this she was rude obnoxious an said No you haven’t ordered for 2-3yrs we order about 6 times a year for the past 25yrs I’d say ,,,,,,,,for £26 for that meal that would be our last from them

Last night was my second visit to The Punch Bowl and on both occasions the meal, service and atmosphere have been bloody amazing. The drive out to the pub itself takes you through some of the more rural parts of Essex. It’s remote enough to make you wonder whether you’ll actually ever arrive but close enough to surrounding towns to make it well worth the visit (just 25 minutes from where we are in Leigh). You’re greeted by the friendliest staff you could hope to meet and are immediately made to feel at home before being taken to your table and looked after the entire time. If cosy, traditional country pub is your vibe you can’t get much better and after a couple of hours sat down with friends, eating amazing food and drinking great wine it’s incredibly hard to leave. It’s worth mentioning that The Punch Bowl do NOT automatically add a service charge to their bills and they also only accept tips in cash so take some with you because you’ll be kicking yourself if you leave without rewarding the service. The waiting staff are out of this world 😊

We often pop in for a quick drink or lunch but this week we booked Sunday lunch for 10 of us. As there were quite a few of us, we had to pre order food choices and pay £5 per head. This worked well as the food came quickly after we were seated. The roast dinner was a proper old fashioned pub roast, the lamb and beef were plentiful and delicious. The potatoes were excellent and the veg was well cooked and there was lots of it. We were able to order chicken pies for the people who didn’t eat red meat and also off the normal menu as one of our party didn’t like roast. The puddings were excellent too. The staff were really friendly and attentive. All in all, a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Didn't have food, hence no rating. Haven't been to Rayleigh for some time, but had the pleasure of spending just over an hour today there at lunch time. What a proper pub. All ages represented and a warm welcome from the excellent bar staff. Friendly atmosphere and enjoyed our Guinness and Bacardi / diet cokes sat where the 2 bar areas meet. Wish we lived nearer and best wishes. Cliff & Lauraine.
