The best restaurants in Stockport North West

Booked to go on New Year’s Eve over the phone and wasn’t informed it was a set menu and how much per head. Arrived at the right time on New Year’s Eve to find out it was £40 per head with one vegetarian option which was one very small section/1 item of the set menus. Didn’t find this out until our drinks had been delivered to our table. We asked if we could just have one main each. The answer was no. So we left. But they wouldn’t let us leave without paying for the two drinks that we hadn’t even touched. Very unhappy about this!!!

Lovely spot for lunch and a slice of delicious cake. A warm, friendly welcome and comforting food served in generous portions. Great value too.

I ordered an afternoon tea from Plumcake today and it was the best I have ever had. Kath had made fresh tarts and scones that morning and they were amazing. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. The attention to detail was so special.

How can new owners get something so badly wrong, last year at this time I couldn’t get a table now the place doesn’t do food and is empty

The food here was very average and clearly microwaved as our starters were soggy and arrived within a few minutes of ordering. We ordered a massaman curry and asked 3 times if we could please have the curry spicy, quite hot and when it arrived it was bland just as listed on the menu. The waitress clearly took no notice of what we asked for. The atmosphere was rather odd. Tables very close to one another and as much as I’m an animal lover the table next to us had a dog with them which was crying and whimpering the whole time. Overall for the £70 spent the food was very average and not made fresh. We were quite disappointed as we went there on recommendation. I’m not sure if this is standard however too and service charge was already added automatically to the bill which I also found odd as this should be at the discretion of the customer. Also no option if draught beers instead overpriced bottled beers were the only option.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve meal in M&J, the food was tasty and the staff are so lovely. We will definitely be back again soon.

Really nice food, always served fresh. Staff are friendly and there is something for everyone. Highly recommended. Having been to Italy, no difference in the quality.

Lovely Ambience and surprisingly impressive & smart set up.( The restaurant even has Guiness on draft - that's a win win for me in particular. However the food experience was a total disaster ( Sunday lunch ) everything was completely over salted ( never had a Sunday roast dinner anywhere quite like this ) The Beef was tender, and the dish well presented ,so incredibly disappointed. The starters arrived hot on top & cold on the bottom ( they were quickly replaced , so I suppose that's a good thing ), however this also was incredibly over salted . Guess you have to find a way to increase wet sales !! Hi Expectations, incredibly poor quality ( what a shame )

Consistently excellent. Great range of breads, cheese, deli hams & meats, all kinds of sauces, chutnies etc sourced locally & internationally. High quality wines reasonably priced. Superb coffee! Friendly, helpful staff. Consumate Delicatessen!

Second time we’ve booked here and couldn’t eat. This evening we booked over and hour and a half ahead for food. Arrived, was shown to a reserved table that had one chair and given a drinks menu. When we asked for the food menu they said we are no longer serving food despite accepting the reservation and stating they serve food until 9pm. When queried the lady behind the bar stated she didn’t have time to call us to let us know they weren’t serving food anymore. Totally understand it’s a busy period but how you can allow customers to book and arrive for food and then wait for them to ask before saying they cannot eat. Terrible terrible service.

Thursday night is gluten free fish night, so great for the gluten intolerant. Excellent fish and chips and lovely friendly staff
