This was my first experience of the Long Barn, and it did not disappoint. What a gorgeous venue! So many beautiful gifts to choose from. We specifically went there for the food as we'd heard from friends that it was a lovely place to go, and they were right. We all had the chicken risotto, and I loved every delicious mouthful. I asked the waiter if I could have the recipe, and he said he'd send it (though I haven't yet received it). All I can say is it's the best risotto I've ever had. Totally different to the truffle risotto or the beetroot and goats cheese ones I make. Just pure yumminess. The only negative I would say is, if the risotto were not on the menu there was nothing else that really grabbed us that we wanted to eat... That said, this visit deserves a five star. We will be back.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but unfortunately in this case I need to as I hope the owner can see this and react upon accordingly. We were on our way home around 8:30pm and thought we’d have a nice sausage and chips for our dinner. How disappointed were we? From the outside the shop looks ok but once you get in the place is filled with smoke ( it was like the extraction wasn’t on?) so instead of waiting for our order inside we went out and came back in 5 mins later. The young lady that served us was pleasant but the other staff just looked as they were in a youth club and messing about. So we get home 10 mins later and eagerly want to tuck in and after the 8/9 layers of paper that wrapped them we had what we thought were generous portions of chips with our battered sausage. Well we were glad they were generous as the majority of them were stuck to the paper as they swimming in oil. Instantly from the first chip I thought that they had a peculiar taste and after a two more chips I had to put them in the bin! They had definitely been cooked in very old cooking oil as they had that bitterness to them. The battered sausage was like any other battered sausage so no complaints there.

Absolutely exceptional experience! We were a group of 8 without a booking at lunch time on a Saturday, and the hostess very kindly found us two tables next to each other. The food was absolutely exceptional (I had the lamb rump), service was impeccable. We will definitely be back - I suspect they do an outstanding Sunday roast and I want to try it!

I was shocked when I returned home and read such bad reviews about this place. We went for a light lunch and coffee and thought it was great - especially being able to sit in the garden. I had the croque monsieur - it was very tasty and I also ordered an EXTRA HOT Latte. So many places don't make it hot even when you ask but full marks to this place - it was perfect. If you like your coffee extra hot - go here. I have no complaints and I am a very critical person. I would definitely return.

I love this place. Nice people, great range of produce. Dry goods, and fresh produce, an excellent deli. Good atmosphere and charming. Polite too.

Asked for a cup of tea. Presented with a mug of water and a diffuser. No milk - had to ask for it. No sugar - had to ask for it. No spoon - had to ask for it. Disappointing. See no reason to return any time soon.

An almost authentic step-back in time to 1960's station buffets right down to over-priced awful coffee. The only thing missing is the fog of tobacco smoke! If you want to relive your youth, or see what you parents endured, this is a must. The building and decor are almost all vintage or antique, and you can look out on the steam trains.
