The best restaurants in St James Exeter South West

Booked a table to have lunch with friends , we both drive nearly an hour to meet up . Two ordered the Christmas Turkey, one the chicken , one the festive burger and a chicken ham hock pie. The Turkey was not real Turkey but two thin slices of a processed roll type , both of these meals were cold , as was the chicken and all four servings of gravy were cold . Ordered crushed potatoes but were given regular ones. The waitress took the two Turkey meals and the four gravy to be heated up and also the potatoes to be crushed. She brought back the potatoes , now crushed and three pots of gravy and said she would bring back the heated dishes as quick as she could. Needless to say by the time she bought back the heated up meals the gravy and potatoes had started to go cold. It also resulted in us all not eating at the same time due to the disjointed service. The fourth gravy never materialized and tbh we had gone past asking now . We were looking forward to dessert and coffee but decided to leave and have coffee and cake in John Lewis . Very disappointing given we had not seen our friends for awhile and with a combined travel time of nearly two hours to get to the Black Horse

Great pub for travelling away fans going to Exeter City games

Overall good. Probably the best sushi in the area. Sashimi very fresh. Yummy rolls. Great Agedashi tofu. Avoid the miso aubergine dish as it is mostly mayonnaise. I would eat here again.

We held our works Christmas meal recently and was made to feel very welcome from the very start The staff were fun and attentive Food was amazing Couldn’t do enough for us Such a relaxed fun meal in a very welcoming setting We will be back 😉🥂

The beef brisket rice is really delicious😭😭😭The Anran ecstasy rice is also delicious! The onion and ginger juice is delicious and very cost-effective. The menu is rich, delicious and affordable. The meal is served quickly and the portions are large!

Food here is brilliant, especially the soup and bread which you get with a beautiful salad.

Lovely pub, I couldn't rate it highly enough in every respect, and everyone involved with the daily running should be proud of the service they provide to the customers.

Love John Lewis but the helpline and the returns policy is chaos.

Absolutely awful food & I'll never come here again. Chips were undercook, Fish tasted off & mushy peas were off I actually felt sick 🤮 it was a waste of £11

The best vegan pizza's by far!! Quick delivery, arrived hot and absolutely delicious 😋 definitely didn't skimp on toppings either. Highly recommend!!

This branch now forces customers to use the self service kiosks. I don't want to use the kiosk because I want marinara sauce on my sub and the kiosk gives you no option to add that. I even explicitly asked if I could order at the checkout because of this, and he said no. So I started ordering at one of the kiosks, and because I took more than thirty seconds while trying to navigate the on-screen menus, it reset my order and made me start again. I pointed this out to the guy and he told me to use another kiosk. I asked why I can't just order from him and he just said "we don't do that here". It wasn't busy. There was no queue in front of me. Other branches let me order at the checkout, why has this one suddenly shifted to forcing everyone to use a kiosk and outright refusing to serve people who don't want to use it. They have the equipment and ability to take your order at the till, they just don't want to. He is the second member of staff to do this to me, so it must be store policy there. And they enforce it to a point of ridiculousness. Either fix your self service kiosks to allow people to customize subs the way they want, or let people order at the checkout.

Best place to go for Chinese food in Exeter. Very good prices, with a main being HUGE portions and only bout £7 including rice. Not the best vibe and not the place you go for the aesthetics but perfect if you want some good food rather than cute insta pics. Lots of options for different dietary restrictions. Cash only though.

Food was cold even though we ate in, they forgot part of our order. No apology. Screaming kids (not half term so?!) Won't come back. Tower Park Poole branch is 100x better. I am concerned I will be ill in a bit as it didn't seem fully cooked though.

Hungry after watching the Football at Exeter City Went in for a pint and a bowl of chips Sadly the chips were a bit burnt 🥵
