The best restaurants in Wells Central Mendip South West

Ultra slow service Confusing over an old loyalty card I had the girl didn't explain well and seemingly I lost a full card with no free drink. Nice place to perch for a rest.

Lovely place, beautifully decorated, spacious and nice. The food was ok though. I ordered 3 tapas for £13.95. Those were NOT a normal size tapas you get in any mexican restaurant. 5 small cooked crowns, 2 tiny quesadillas and patatas bravas which was such a tiny bowl of half cooked potatoes. I was still very hungry after my food. My partner was fine with his burger. Given all that l, it was cheap, £38 for 2 beers and 2 meals is considered good!

Arrived at the agreed check in time of 2pm and the hotel was locked up and in darkness. We called the number on the door and the person said he would get the member of staff to come down and let us in. About two minutes later the member of staff came down and let us in, no apology or anything. The room wasn't made up and we had to leave our bags and make ourselves scarce until they had finished. Very poor service.

Had to leave, no sooner had we sat down than a big dog came right up to our table. Sick and tired of owners saying he is only being friendly. Why do dogs come before paying customers. Family of four left as our child has a severe dog anxiety.

Lovely spot to have a coffee and relax, the vibe was warm and friendly - we will definitely be back for drinks and food as it look delicious!

We had a Festive Feast on Christmas Day 2023 & same again this year, 2024. The food was excellent, good quality, each course was hot and plentiful, (Waistband challenging!). The service was great and friendly with 'resting time' in between courses. A happy atmosphere topped off the Special Day with a special meal.

The worst Chinese takeaway I've ever been to. I haven't been in years, because the few times I went it was terrible. Jellified lemon chicken, really crispy chilli beef... a burnt rock hard block! It hasn't changed. The sweet and sour sauce is like water, the egg fried rice is the bland and this time instead of a solid block of beef, I got what I can only assume was beef fat, not crispy at all but cold and chewy. All the dishes I've had here have been awful, either soggy and bland or burnt! Waste of money, I knew in my gut it would be no better after all these years and I was right. I shan't be giving it another chance, ever.

Being the wedding photographer at Bishops Palace Wedding and Events Venue was an absolute joy and privilege. Prawn Tom Kha soup. Awful. No tomato, coriander or chilli. 4 prawns!

Friendly atmosphere and staff, and a warm crackling real log fire welcomed us. This was ruined by our four meals, that were all awful. Initially we wanted the Steak & Ale pie, which were unavailable. Eventually we chose again, 2 sirloin steaks, one rare, one medium, being, but both were overcooked and very tough and gristly forbsirloins. Bangers and mash wasn't great either, with the casing of the sausage, being very tough. When I mentioned this to the barmaid, I was told, "she'd mention it to the chef". Worst £60 meal we've had on this vacation, and won't be eating there again. Such a shame as our evening had started off so nicely in there.

Wonderful experience for our annual Xmas get together. We had the 3 course festive menu for £27.50 which was really good value. Good portion sizes, delicious food and we were well looked after by lovely staff. We were a party of 7 and all very happy, we got our food all at the same time and were all pleased with everything. Would definitely recommend.

Good food! Could have been slightly hotter. Large portions excellent, friendly service. Definitely make a second visit. Good variety for a small cafe. Toilet 🚽 facilities need an upgrade.

A delightful place to eat with great views of the Cathedral and gardens. The food was way above my expectations- the fish chowder was fantastic Staff friendly, helpful and worked really hard- it was appreciated Recommend if visiting Wells Cathedral or city
