We fully intended trying this restaurant upon a return visit to Clevedon. Situated on the popular Hill Road with its eclectic range of independent shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs. Mary's is a beautiful Mediterranean style corner restaurant retaining evidence of its former life as an apothecary and shouts "come in." A range of tapas and main meals. Decent linen napkins. Unfortunately a choice of tapas of mine was unavailable. Understandable but the waitress should make diners aware of items that are not available in advance. That said we both opted for the fish pie which was very good. Reasonable prices. We could not understand the pretentious decanting of a bottle of chardonnay into a jug. I asked at the end of the meal, prior to paying, if she would call a taxi for us. She merely handed out a taxi business card. It was a very quiet evening. When the bill arrived there was a presumptuous 10% service charge. We always find this irritating and on this occasion had it removed. Three stars overall which to be fair should be 4 /5.🇬🇧🇳🇿

Returning to Clevedon after a very long time it was a bit odd to find ourselves back on Hill Road (but that is the weird emotional bit out of the way). We were a bit peckish so popped into the cafe. Had not planned to end up going for the full breakfast - but we did (one vegetarian and one meat). Gosh. They were massive. I was on the meat one, but I simply could not finish it! A first. The Good Lady had to have a piece of my toast + and egg + tomato. (A piece of bacon was scurried out in a serviette). So value-for-money, to me, it was right up there. Admittedly, and looking at other reviews, I might agree that the staff seemed quite new/a little lost at times. Not sure if there is perhaps lots of turnover but they did seem to be struggling at times. Courteous though. We felt very reasonably priced.

Had a very enjoyable stay in this hotel for three nights. I appreciated the large Victorian style. A large bathroom and a just big enough bedroom. Bathroom had a door stop to stub your toe on right in front of the towel rail, not so clever. Wonderful views out over the water to Wales. English breakfast was excellent, even outstanding though their interpretation of Continental breakfast seemed to lack any cheese ham or roles. Dinner was excellent. I would have given five stars but I have to take one off as the bar areas were very gloomy grey. The menu had no pudding based on apple. Somerset one of the great apple areas of the UK with all the scores of traditional and modern apple puddings available and none available here, in the autumn apple season.

******* Update 07/01/2025 ******* So had another person email me, promising to send a voucher and how sorry they were, but still no voucher or even a reply to any of my emails. TERRIBLE BUSINESS AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ******* UPDATE: I thought I would be coming on here with a good update, but I am afraid not. They got in contact with me, but that was a bit if a hassle. But eventually they apologised and said they would send a voucher. Well, I have not received a voucher, and no response from any of my emails. So basically they don't care about their customers. ******* I appreciate that they were short staffed, but when you are told you have to be inside to eat, then as you walk in, the waitress is carrying food out. It doesn't set things up well. Then, when you finally get your food, the plate is hotter than the food. It just finishes your night off. It's a great shame as this could be a wonderful pub if it was run better. It's a shame, but we won't be back, and neither will our friends
