The best restaurants in Downend South Gloucestershire South West

I absolutely love this family run cafe . Kerry and Rich are so lovely and welcoming. I’m a coffee snob and the coffee here is spot on . I should have put a photo of my breakfast on but I’ve eaten it , lol . The food is beautifully seasoned and very good value for money . There are tables outside but it’s pet friendly anyway . They also do outside catering . Please support this local business.

Excellent and hospitable restaurant for Mezze

My first visit in December and was delighted to be given table service. Plenty of space when I went just after lunch.

Highly recommended - good prices, service, waiting times and taste for both the Chinese dishes and regular chippy bits (certainly the best Chinese across the local area from experience of trying too many of them 😬). They also take card!

the friendly Indian takeaway with the softest lamb i have ever had ever , if your a lamb fan you simply have to try with pleasure . a well recommended place to have a delivery or collect 5*****

Very cool. Wok Hei is the main reason…Both HK styles Stir Fry Beef Rice Noodles and Stir Fry Pho are delicious! Support to our teenage to start the business in Bristol.

Got there early. Asked if I could sit at the table and wait. Was told to sit in the corner of a table which was dressed for others to use. Thank god I don't touch their plates...

Popped in for a coffee and cake when we came down from Wolverhampton definitely will drop in again when we come to Downend

Not as good as it used to be, some of the young bar staff need a bit more training asked for a 0% tin of guinness as I was driving and she just put in on the bar with a glass and didn't attempt to pour it in glass it might sound petty but I don't think she knew how to pour guinness correct also no guinness glass it was a lager glass

Christmas Day lunch was a lovely day, staff were lovely and food was hot and plentiful. Didn’t feel rushed and will book again for next year 😊

Last Friday I had a meal with the family, our server, Ashlee, was very attentive and friendly despite looking quite young. Good food all round for decent price, we will be back!!

There are, arguably, two reasons to visit Downend. One is on a summer’s afternoon to watch Downend CC play cricket with the bar in full swing and plenty of boundaries being scored as the ground is relatively small; the other is to pay a visit to Melanie’s Kitchen. This delicatessen shop is a positive cornucopia of cheeses, bakery items, biscuits, chutneys, artisan breads etc etc. The man who serves at the cheese counter (who I assume is not Melanie!) is a fountain of knowledge on local cheeses and knows all of the local cheese producers, when their cheeses are at their best and is happy to provide advice to ensure that you will leave well satisfied having enjoyed a sensory and culinary experience second to none. It’s full marks from me.
