The best restaurants in Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Calderdale Yorkshire and The Humber

My family and I have visited this pub a few times in the past and always found it to have a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, today’s experience was nothing short of dreadful. While pub food isn’t expected to be gourmet, it should at least be edible and satisfying. Sadly, the food served today was some of the worst I’ve ever had. I started with the prawns, which were very basic but passable. However, the main course was a disaster. The lamb was dry, completely lacking in flavor, and almost impossible to chew. For dessert, I ordered the brownie, only to be served something that was stale and clearly over-microwaved. It was inedible. To make matters worse, the service was just as disappointing—rude staff, multiple mistakes, and a complete lack of care. Even the drinks weren’t handled properly, served in the wrong glasses and poured incorrectly. This experience was a massive letdown. I would strongly advise against dining here. At best, it might be a decent spot for drinks—but even then, I’d approach with caution.

What a find this Chip Shop is, the Chips were cooked to perfection as was the Fish, that was fried to order and cooked in front of you all in beef dripping. Super tasty batter which was nice and crispy. The Specials are amazing value as was the Fish and Chips. And a special mention must go to the curry sauce which on a cold grey day lifted our spirits ! All served up by the super friendly owners, we will be revisiting Fryer Tucks when in the area at lunch time ! 2nd visit today and the food was just as good as our first visit ! Chips and curry with scraps yum yum !

Food wasn’t as described on the menu. Called the shop and was told I was speaking to the manager. Manager had a can’t be arsed attitude and was rude on the phone

Food excellent as always. Lunch booked at very short notice, restaurant busy but food served quite quickly. Lasagne is a good test of an Italian restaurant and this was first class.

We call here quite often for breakfast and have never had a poor meal or drink. Staff are lovely and friendly and food locally sourced and oh so tasty. I would defo recommend .

We called for a sandwich at lunchtime as were having a meal later. We opted for baguette & chips. I had turkey & stuffing in gravy and my husband had beef in gravy. They were absolutely gorgeous and the home cut chips were fantastic. We won't be having tea now, we were well and truly full. This was our third visit for food and have always enjoyed the home cooked food.

**Has changed hands since this review, no where near as nice.** Always fantastic, great portions and the collection times are always bang on correct to the minute. The food taste is fab and never had anything wrong. Don't hesitate get your food ordered!

Ordered lamb balti and mixed starter, both were very nice and tasty, also ordered chips and garlic nan and again both spot on

Beautiful pub made out of the timbers of an ancient ship. Excellent food and friendly staff.

Just visited this afternoon for Sunday Lunch. Best Sunday dinner we have had in a while. The staff we really friendly and very efficient .We will be back. Thank you

Had dinner on Sunday night and again tonight fab atmosphere, food and staff both nights thanks to Dan both nights for a great experience will be back next time in the area.

Waited over 2 hours for driver to turn up outside house and not have the food in the car so cancelled food order absolutely terrible service will never use again !!!
