The best restaurants serving British food in East Hertfordshire East of England

Arranged an afternoon tea for a special aunt on the occasion of her 90th birthday and what a wonderful time we all had. The staff were simply amazing, greeting my aunt when we arrived, but then just being there when required. Loved the tea selection especially the Lapsang and the sandwiches and cakes were lovely and definitely moreish. All in all it was the perfect afternoon and we couldn't have asked for me. Thank you all.

Superb in every way. From entering to leaving was an absolute joy. The service was speedy and superb. Even the small things like a proper cup of tea not tea bags make a big difference. The food was outstanding and the top quality ingredients shone through as was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the scrambled egg OMG it's the best ever. It's not cheap but worth every penny and in all good value for money. I can't recommend this place highly enough, very well done to all staff and management involved.

I had bought a wheel of tete de moine last Christmas, which The Cheese Plate had posted to me. It was great and I wanted another one this Christmas but this time I thought I'd drive up to Buntingford and see what else they have. Fortunately I was able to buy their last wheel of tete de moine, which, surprisingly, was the same price as last year! But they had some lovely other cheeses too - a spread of English, French, Swiss, Italian and Spanish I believe. The highlight was the creamy/gooey gorgonzola but I also bought a small pot of garlic jelly - something I hadn't seen before and an excellent morbier, far better than what's on offer in supermarkets.

We call in quite often for breakfast, usually on the weekend. So nice to be able to get a seat in comfortable friendly surroundings when other places can be heaving. The food is excellent, always freshly prepared and arrives hot and well presented at the table. We rarely go anywhere else now as so simple and convenient. So far have only had their excellent breakfasts, but will soon go in for lunch as the menu looks scrummy. Would highly recommend.

Having eaten at the George a few times I thought it was time to right a review. The food we have had on every visit is exceptional, last night we had the scotch egg and grilled king prawns followed by the sirloin steak for 2, the chefs obviously are passionate about what they do and it shows in the food. The service is unassuming but very efficient the perfect combination. We will definitely be back again.

Good place as always! Nandos is always a nice restraunt to eat at. Their grilled food is top-notch. Isn't that pricey as well!

The mushroom starter was pleasant and the soup was fine. The Xmas dinner was disappointing. Not much of it - sliced parsnips and carrots very meagre. The gravy was very salty. The beef rib gravy was also salty. Cheesecake was so sweet none of the party wanted it. A service charge automaticity added though I’ve since read it is voluntary. Last years Xmas meal was delicious, that’s why we returned. This year, sorry, not so much.

Really lovely food and service, we had a wonderful lunch, lovely homely decor and welcoming. Highly recommended the place!

Wonderful pub, extremely friendly staff, excellent food, nice cosy atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday lunchtime meal. We had a classic prawn cocktail, Sausages and mash and the beef wellington. They were all excellent. We will definitely be back !

My husband and I had lunch at the dusty miller today, I had chicken wings, my husband had seafood, we both had the wagu burger. Both were very tasty. We were served by the temp manager Callum ( hope I spelled it correctly) Lovely young guy !!! He knows how to treat the customers. That’s coming from a retired pub manager. *****

Excellent food friendly staff can’t rate it highly enough. The menu has a varied and wide selection to meet everybody’s needs. Lovely garden. The staff are friendly helpful and we didn’t have to wait a long time for our drinks and food. It is very personable great place to go with friends and family as it caters for everybody’s needs. You are also allowed pets and they provide water for them.

Positives - Absolutely beautiful pub, with highly attentive, happy staff. Negatives - I fancied some cheesy chips with my pint... The smallest portion of chips, not fries (good thing) arrived and they were by far the most disgusting chips I have ever eaten... anywhere, in my entire life. Absolutely soaked in old, very smelly & obviously extremely dirty fryer oil. Utterly rank... I'll not be returning I'm afraid.

We have been here twice now and the staff & service just exceptional. The staff are so welcoming, warm amd friendly. Great Sunday Roast too and general lunch menu, pheasant ragu and roast were delicious. Would highly recommend.

Visited with my dad for his bday lunch. Was really nice we both had the toasties and had half and half. Very busy even on a Monday lunchtime. Business is booming!

Had a lovely meal (lasagne) from the fox aspenden. The new owners and chef have done really well. Will defo be back to try their new menus xx
