The best restaurants serving British food in Peterborough East of England

We had booked a table and four of us enjoyed sitting outside at the rear of the property for lunch. The pub has a incoherent system of routing you out to the side of the building to the patio attge rear, rather than straight through the building, where you see a no entry sign on the chair. Made no sense at all, just irritating. We ordered from a good choice of mains, small plates or starters. I really enjoyed a vegetarian aubergine dish, with breadcrums and garlic bread. Othere had burgers and peri peri chicken. Staff were mainly friendly. They hold your credit card as a means of ensuring people pay.

Visited Saturday afternoon for a cold drink and scone. Wanted to sit outside as it was such a nice afternoon. The only free table was literally stacked with dirty plates,glasses,cups,cans. I went inside and although the entire place was empty EVERY table was also stacked with dirty crockery!! Half eaten meals,flies everywhere. One of the tables outside became vacant so I ordered my coke and scone and asked that the table be cleared.. A very reluctant lad came out and cleared the debris,didn’t bother to wipe the spilt salt,ketchup and general mess up. Another customer was loading dirty plates from her table onto another but still nobody bothered to clear up. My scone came out like molten rock,it had clearly been zapped too long in the microwave. When it had cooled down enough to hold I tried to cut the scone,it was rock hard. By this time the staff were out enjoying the chaos that was happening in the grounds of the cathedral and clearly weren’t interested in customers. Definitely won’t be returning,the whole place was dirty.

Ate here over 20 years ago. While the menu is less extensive than it used to be the options were well thought through and the restaurant remains a great fine dining experience. My wife has various food allergies and the waiting staff and chef liaised together to work out and through various options to ensure that she could still receive a meal that was enjoyable but nevertheless met her needs. Lovely relaxing environment too.

Chicken screws were nice, soft and juicy! Then restaurant was getting busy and the Seabass with new potatoes were pan fried but a bit over cooked.

Went to this cafe just before they closed as we didn’t know they shut at 2pm. I am a support worker working for a young man with autism and the staff were happy to serve a cup of tea and chocolate bar which was highly appreciated. Great friendly service, will definitely return.

I went to this pub for a late night drink with my couple of friends. The pub quite nice inside, however, for the first time living in UK for over 10 years I was racially abused and harassed to leave the pub..of course I left the pub and taxi driver said that this pub one of the biggest racist pub in Peterborough. It’s nothing to do with owners of the pub, but some people there could be more nice for other who just comes for a drink.

Disappointing, bad service, food took an hour to be served after ordering, cold inside pub. Staff members delivered bare minimum service, they looked unbothered, unmotivated. We arrived and the staff member behind the bar avoided eye contact as we walked in, and said finally after taking a slow amount of time to pour a coke for another customer said timidly.. ' can i help'... Can you help? What do you think we are here for? what is this default response that is so Unhelpful. Staff members should welcome new guests by saying confidently, 'hello, welcome!' and followed by if they are busy saying 'I will be with you in a moment'! Staff members should be encouraged to welcome guests and employ confidence. We occasionally go out for lunch together and I rarely leave reviews however our 'occasional' lunches are often met with a disappointing waste of money. What a shame.

My fiancé and I have just had a celebratory meal and drink here following a promotion at work and also sending out our wedding save the dates. We were served by Darren, who said he's relatively new at the Argo. Darren made our celebration that much more special by being an amazing server. He was so friendly and chatty. We've always loved the Argo, but would recommend it even more so after our lovely experience with Darren. Thank you for making our dining experience so relaxed and fun ❤️

I have used these a few times when I was visiting the area and it's really nice food and good customer service. Definitely worth the money .

Lovely old hotel which has been recently partially refurbished including some rooms and bar area. Parking free onsite, just take ticket and register your car reg at reception. Quick check in and room was newly decorated- colours a little bright but all fresh. Lovely bathroom again all fresh, bath and over bath shower . Toiletries supplied and refreshed , towels fluffy and even flannels supplied . Comfy bed although a little firm for me. Dressing table area , built in wardrobe and small tea/coffee area with kettle, 2 arm chairs in room. We had three course evening meal included In our Travelzoo deal and I can’t rate this highly enough. Pleasant staff who took our order, amazingly flavourful soups followed by vegetarian wellington and a turkey roulade , these were all served piping hot. Nice range of desserts on offer too. In fact the food was so good we also had a meal at the bar the next night too. The portions are large and food extremely good quality. Breakfast on Saturday morning was a served buffet as well as continental on Sunday it was cooked to order. This hotel is lateral across the road from Queensgate shopping centre as along the road is the other shopping areas. The hotel was quiet there were plenty of staff and who were efficient and friendly. We would definitely visit again.
