We arrived for breakfast at 10am Sunday & no sign of life at all. Maybe update your opening times on Tripadvisor. Food could very well be delicious …. We’ll never know 🥺

Called in for coffee and cake. Very disappointed. Cafe was very dirty. Service was extremely slow. Some people left as the wait was too long even though cafe was not busy. Far too many dogs. Food OK but disappointing.

BEWARE of overcharging at this shop. They don’t take cash, a detail you only find out when you are at the till, and was then overcharged by 75% on the card machine. As I wasn’t offered a receipt this fact wasn’t obvious until I was in an area where there was phone reception. Two trips back to the shop have failed to recoup the money and now no one is answering the mobile number I was given. Poor experience all round.

The Treehouse is an absolutely fascinating construction and well worth visiting to experience the atmosphere. We came for lunch and both dishes were good (we are vegetarians). The mushroom and spinach wellington was fine, as was the chickpea couscous. The only problem was that we were feeling really cold there. The weather was cold and wet but the inside still felt cold. There is a central wood burning stove, but this seems inadequate for the extent of the restaurant area. We didn't stay for desert as we needed to get warm!

From the first step in the staff have been welcoming and polite . Tables are spotless . Restaurant area is clean and comfortable . They also have a very nice pub area where to sit in front of an open fire . The young waitress have great customer service skills . Cannot fault the place . We had an amazing meal with delicious home made potato skin alongside an Angus burger and a very generous portion of gammon steak. .it is clear that everything is home made . We will definitely come back . Highly recommended .

Great family day out A really good mix of things to entertain children (soap making, crafts, Harry Potter broomstick flying and shows) and adults (state rooms, towers and grounds). The annual season pass makes it a reasonably priced attraction. Good food options for lunch or space for picnics

I made a last minute booking to visit friends. Georgie and Ben went out of there way to accommodate me and ensure I had everything I needed despite only having about two hours notice. The room was spotless and warm and beautiful. Ben cooked me a superb full English in the morning. I had a wonderful stay. The location is fabulous right in the heart of Alnmouth and it's a two minute walk to the beach.

Came for the Sunday lunch carvery. The staff were delightful. The beer (TT Landlord and another pale one) were beautifully kept. The pub has a welcoming and cosy feel to it The carvery was good quality and plentiful (we liked the plates with 'sides' on to keep stuff from falling off). Giant Yorkies! The meats were tender and tasty. It all sounds so good so far...but. Clearly the veg and spuds are kept under lamps so diners can help themselves to 'unlimited' portions, but the sad fact is that they just weren't warm enough - not actually hot - and certainly not 'piping' hot. It really took the edge off the experience for me which is a real shame as everything else was perfect. Easily solved too, for future diners, if the management and staff choose to do so. This review is getting 4* not 5*, purely due to this aspect.

Booked a table for a Sunday lunch while in the area and have to say it was the worst meal we have had for a long time. The Sunday lunch was abysmal. The meat was tough, the vegetables were rock hard, not "Al dente".Potato's tasted like last weeks. There was cross contamination whilst serving meat,ie chef using same knife and serving utensils between pork and beef. The pan seared chicken supreme was bland, very little chicken,no flavour at all. The children's meatballs was inedible. The place itself was lovely and could be a super venue.such a disappointment and needs a major shake up.

Not so much a hotel, it’s just rooms above a pub. My single room was warm and clean with a separate en-suite. The shower was a good size with plenty of hot water. I arrived after they stopped serving food on Sunday evening, the pub was shut on Monday so I didn’t see any staff at all by the time I left on Tuesday morning (I just left the room key on the stairs). There were a couple of packaged croissants in the room along with butter and jam portions and orange juice in a tiny fridge, plus tea/coffee/kettle. There’s no mobile phone signal so you do need to be sure to grab the WiFi code. The WiFi work fine as did the TV. The pillows were fine but the mattress was a bit lumpy, although it didn’t stop me getting to sleep. It’s a quirky old building so the floors are a bit slopey, but only enough to give it some character.

We didn't play golf, but did pop in to get a few drinks from their bar and to sit on their benches by the gold course. Bar was quiet, and the staff were pleasant.

I don't usually write reviews, but I didn't feel as though I could allow anyone else in this hotel without warning. I have travelled and slummed it during my youth, but this was just not acceptable as a hotel for a stay with me and my 7 and 9 year old girls. As a hostel perhaps, and a dirty one at that. We stayed in room 33 and arrived 28th Dec 2024. The room was smelly, but I thought it was an old building and perhaps the damp was from the bathroom being recently cleaned. Cleaning is not on the agenda here though! We had a big black hair in the sink, cobwebs in the corners and there was a used mini milk sachets and water still in the kettle from the previous guest. There were botched jobs of paint work all round the room too, to which my kids said "that looks awful". I had brought my two girls away for an adventure by the sea and they said that they "didn't feel safe" when it came to night time. The FREE PARKING is just the parking on the street too, which is first come first serve so can be tight at busier times of the year. No idea who the chap was who checked us in, but he left our bags in the hall on full view from 12.30 until 3pm when the room was "ready". The bags could have easily been stolen and he didn't even take my name or ID. The restaurant never opens and there is no breakfast or coffee etc!! It's functioning as a hostel. We used the Hope and Anchor in case you are reading this it is already too late. The smell subsided on night one and we were out all of the next day, but when we came back we found two guests who had tried to book in with their family over the new year. They refused to go in their room due to bed bugs that they had seen and documented. My girls were horrified for a second time!! We then went up to our room which then stunk even more intensely, like eggs and sewage. The chap offered to change rooms, but I said I was worried about what we might find in another room and that after a whole day out the kids just wanted to rest. He was keen to get me to agree that "I was happy with the room I had". He then offered some room spray to help with the smell! I paid £176 for two nights and I would rather have slept on the beach. The chap was kind and friendly enough and I feel sorry for them because they clearly don't have the funding to spend on the place, but it really shouldn't be open for business at all. When we checked out there was no one there. I had to call the landline from my mobile each time I needed something and during the last morning he answered the call from his car! If you are also looking for ghosts, but could put up with dirty rooms then don't expect any of those either. It's all a myth and the locals will advise the same. It's just absolutely freezing and dark and creepy that's all. I'm just praying that Booking.com will issue a refund. The location, must add, is great. Here's hoping it gets bought out sometimes soon!
