For the third year I booked our Christmas meal at the Red Lion for 7 of us friends normally itās been a great experience. Everything was fine with the main Xmas meal and dessert then the lovely lady who had Bern serving us came to say she was leaving at 9pm from then on everything went down hill we sat the rest of the night with our plates in front of us I eventually had to ask for the mince pies and coffee both were terrible the mince pies look like a child had made them the coffee was stewed and unless we had said I am sure the young girl who seemed to have no idea you should communicate with customers would not have cleared the main meal plates unless we had told her to. I then went to the bar for the bill as still no one been to the table to see if we wanted another drink I was ignored at the bar by the young girl so I just stayed can we have the bill the bill never came had to go back and finally complained to the manager in duty. Considering it was a Xmas meal the experience was bad and the staff only seemed interested in the large group of lads in the bar playing poker.

Went for lunch when out for a walk. It was busy so asked if we could sit at a table that was reserved for later and that wasn't a problem. We had a fish finger sandwich and melted cheese with chutney on sour dough, both came with chips and were very nice and filling . Service was quick. We would definitely return.

I made a mistake clicking on someone's bad review, and have no idea how to unclick that, so I have to set the record straight! In fact this is an iconic pub, well known throughout the canal community, and I had no problem with it. The picture shows a boat right in front of the pub. We manoeuvred into there to load water, but were not cheeky enough to ask if we could overnight...we found a mooring just on the other side. Can anyone tell me if we could actually have got away with it? The Old Barbridge Inn allowed us to moor right in front two nights previously, so we didn't want to push our luck. You can't really do the Shroppie without a stop at the Shroppie Fly. Keep up the standard and we'll all be happy!

Booked a meal and overnight stay in our MoHo Fabulous meal in this great establishment. We both chose from the Christmas menu hubby had turkey and I had mango chicken. Both had starters & Sweet. Couldn't fault it. Great atmosphere too. Great owners. Will definitely return if this way again.

Mum had a scone that was so overcooked it was dry. I had quiche and chips, the quiche came on a tiny little side plate so I couldn't eat it with my chips as there was no room on the plate. The quiche was bland and tasteless no seasoning or anything. The plus side is the lady who served us was lovely and very helpful.

We joined friends for lunch in the main restaurant. Our friends had enjoyed the golf course and spa during their short stay at the hotel. We all ordered soft drinks with lunch. At first we were given a broken glass, when we informed staff it was replaced with a dirty glass. We were given glasses that you might find in a junior school in the 1970*s. Perhaps suitable in a cafe in Manchester's Northern Quarter but not in keeping with the surroundings of the hall. We ordered a light lunch. Some salads, antipasti...gravlax salmon. The individual meals arrived to the table at different times. All the food was considerably disappointing. We recognise and appreciate god food but what we were served was far from it. Nothing was fresh..the salmon smelt as if it was going off, the salad was definitely off. The antipasti looked like it was from a supermarket packet and we were told it was suitable for two people to share. Thoroughly disappointed with the standards of the hotel. After taking in the stunning view over Cheshire from the main door which staff and guests were huddling around while having a cigarette we walked back through the hotel corridors to the main upper hotel car park. We found the standard of hygiene to be severely lacking. It was difficult to know if anyone was in charge. It was brilliant to see friends we hadn't seen for such a long time in a wonderful location but everything else was shambolic.

We went to this restaurant last August for lunch and the food was amazing with hardly any waiting time. However, we decided to try for lunch again this weekend and the difference was upsetting. I stood in the queue behind five or six people and there was a chalkboard with "30 minutes wait for food" written on it. Okay so 30 mins, not too long to wait, but as I moved down the queue it got updated to 40 minutes then 60 minutes. No way is it acceptable to wait 60 minutes for food! The tea would have been cold after 15 minutes. Would they have replaced with a fresh pot. I don't think so. This is such a joke to expect people to wait for an hour for a meal. Come on STRIKES. Get more staff, you must be able to afford it. Shall not be back until they improve the waiting times.

Been visiting jodrell on and off as a cyclist for the last 5/6 years, from when the modern caterer was responsible for the cafe, sadly that came to and end a while ago and the university took back charge. The food seems to have been going downhill ever since. Todays (Sunday) breakfast offering consisted of sausage or bacon barms. Precooked and left to slowly cool in a pot, not kept warm or reheated, served on an unbuttered barmcake that was left to dry out in a paper bag. The whole thing soon disintegrated because it was dryer than Gandhiās flip flop. And they have the cheek to charge Ā£5 for it. On the (only) plus side the coffee is still decent. May be better in the week but today was embarrassing compared to how good it used to be.
