The best restaurants serving British food in Askham Eden North West

Pooley Bridge is a great location to stay and explore the Northern Lakes with several very welcoming inns with great beer gardens and decent food. The 1863 Restaurant & Rooms however is on a different level altogether. We stayed for two nights in the Luxury Suite (room 7) which, although smaller than we had anticipated, was extremely comfortable and well appointed. The real reason to stay here though is to enjoy the restaurant experience. On our first night we had the 3 course option which was imply superb. The presentation, quality of food and level of attention from the team were all exceptional. We indulged ourselves with the 7 course "Taster" menu on the 2nd night which actually turned out to be almost 10 courses with the little extras that arrived. We thought our first experience would be hard to improve on but night two and the 7 course option was simply sublime. Thank you to all of the team for making our stay so special.

Went for breakfast and definitely made the right choice. Great variety of food .Friendly helpful staff and was nice inside although obviously you would sit outside - looking at the river and amazing view - weather permitting .The food was great and not too bad a price especially for the Lake District.

Great local pub, choice of beers excellent and super friendly

This place is an absolute shambles, the boiler did not work leaving us without hot water and heating for the weekend, the place was filthy on arrival, all the crockery and pots and pans where dirty, When we told owner that the TV didn't work, he told us to buy one. I would not recommend this place until the owner has brought it up to standard. The advertised hot tub overlooks the neighbours house and gardens, and looks as if it was shoved in the only place it would fit.

Amazing Roast Dinner! Myself and husband both had the roast beef with a side of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese and were so glad we ordered the sides as they were delicious! The plates were plentiful and we struggled to finish but one of the best roasts we’ve had in a long time. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much for them, very attentive. Definitely worth the money. Overall 5 out of 5!
