This place is so cool! The bartender Dan set a great atmosphere with his extensive cocktail knowledge and great personality 🥰 I’ve never been an old fashioned drinker, but this place has converted me 🔥This is the place to be, especially on a Tuesday night with the drink promotion!

Just had to wait 40 minutes for breakfast and missed our train. I was told that the delay was because they were very busy, which clearly wasn’t true as the place wasn’t full. Our order had obviously got forgotten even though they were overstaffed. I counted 4 people serving about 15 customers. The staff were happily talking about their holidays and dating, and taking cigarette breaks, rather than checking the orders had been processed. The chef even came out for a coffee break and gossip - while we had been waiting 30 mins. In fairness they did apologise profusely and took some items off the bill. The breakfast was ok when it came but certainly not worth the wait.

I traveled from Colorado, USA to the London for work and I had the opportunity to bring along my father with me. He was born in the UK and as we were planning various things to do, he had reminisced about going down to the coast as a child to play in the arcades and eating the best fish and chips. As he was telling me about his childhood, I knew immediately I wanted to relive it with him. We were able to catch a quick train to Brighton from London and on the trip down I started to do my research on finding a great place to eat our lunch and landed on Captain’s. A great place right on the water by the pier. After my dad and I played in the arcade on the pier and bought Brighton Rock candy to enjoy on the trip back to London we headed over to Captain’s. As we walked in, we were happily greeted and brought to our table. We both ordered the Fish and Chip’s and I got an extra side of fried scampi. To drink, my dad got a coke and I went for the Brixton Brewery West Coast IPA. Our drinks came right away, and I have to say the Brixton IPA was great! This is coming from a guy living in Colorado beer country. After some chatting between my dad and I our cooked to order meal came out. The batter used at Captain’s is from a 35-year-old secret recipe and only the highest quality fish and locally sourced potatoes are used. I knew I was in for something good. As we took our first bites it was evident we found the right place. The fish was perfectly fried. The outside was crisp, not crunchy and the fish was tender, moist and delicious on the inside. The chips were cut the exact right length, fried golden brown with excellent crisp on the outside and the precise balance of fluffy on the inside. I was super happy about ordered the scampi too as that was a nice extra treat. We even got an extra basket of chips on the house to top us off! The wait staff and Pam were superb! All took the time to speak with us and really made this a great experience for me and my dad reliving his youth. I can understand why it was so memorable for him and now thanks to Captain’s and their crew it has become an everlasting memory for me too! I will be back with my children soon and highly recommend this great establishment. Cheers!

I walked past this place on the way to do my washing. The door was open, so having heard good things about it, I thought I would come back for my breakfast. I came back at three minutes to nine, the door was still open, I was told that they didn't open till nine and I should come back later. So, as there were a number of alternatives in the street I went elsewhere.

Bar didn’t open despite having an event scheduled. No communication from the manager. No lights on. No contact. Our event was even on their website. Had several people messaging the Facebook and calling the number and nothing back. Poor. Do not book an event at this awfully run establishment. Disappointed is an understatement.

Having been regulars at The Bok Shop, we were excited to see Coq Block were going to be serving their food. We ordered the 'Trace and Status' chicken tenders and the 'Piggie Smalls Loaded fries' as these are not available at the main shop - Both were delicious! We also had some tasty 'Coq'tails too, and just generally really enjoyed the vibe there, we can imagine this place will be C(h)oq-a-Blocked in the summer with their big garden area. Attentive and friendly staff.

I wish I took photos of the food because it was actually terrible, I bought the Bella breakfast with an extra of black pudding for myself with a coffee that I thought came with it (which I’ll get back to later) and I bought the vegetarian breakfast with a coffee for my gf, I got home to eat my food after delivering my gf hers at work and I come to find the two eggs are fully cooked through not runny at all and very oily, came with only one sausage and one bacon which I’m sure it said you’d get two bacon, and the extra black pudding was literally one thin slice I was so dissapointed, it all came to £28.10 which the two breakfasts were £9.50 and the extra black pudding was like 1.75 I think so the two coffees must have been nearly £4 which I can’t believe really and I feel like a fool for going to this place when there’s much better options for that price on the same street I only went there thinking I’d maybe save some money but turned out I spent more for worse and less
