As the many good reviews testify this restaurant provides well-cooked food and attentive service. However, when my wife and I visited on a cold November evening we found the heating to be so inadequate that we did not enjoy our visit at all. At first, I thought I was feeling the cold because of my old age, but then I heard much younger customers at a nearby table complaining about the temperature. One of them even had to stand up and stomp his feet to restore circulation. The waitress told us that all the heating was turned on, but I could only see two radiators in quite a large area, and they seemed quite ineffective. The manager then told us that the restaurant was cold because it was in an old building. This was hardly a convincing explanation as we had been in an 18th century pub less than an hour earlier and been quite comfortable. Before we had finished our main courses we decided that shivering under four layers of clothing was hardly the best way to spend a birthday celebration dinner, so we left and had our dessert elsewhere.

If you’re looking for a taste of old-fashioned baking done right, Al’s Bakery is the place to go! Their cream cake is absolutely divine – light, creamy, and perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. The carrot cake is just as impressive, moist with a hint of spice and topped with a rich, velvety frosting. You can tell they use quality ingredients. Al’s Bakery truly embodies the charm and quality of traditional baking. Highly recommend stopping by for a treat!

We ate at the restaurant on 16th December and based on the other reviews I think I was unlucky. The confit heritage tomatoes for the starter were poorly cooked. There was hard green tomato alongside mushy red tomato. My halibut main was overcooked. At £28 I wish I had sent it back. But we were with friends, and the restaurant was their recommendation. And overall we had a good time so I didn't want to create a bad vibe. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was, for a Monday, really good. I take responsibility for not sending back my dishes but the cooking here doesn’t match the London prices. I wouldn’t go back.

I along with a large group was lucky enough to enjoy a Christmas lunch at the Royal Hotel Deal. It was perfect…The staff were there when needed but didn’t crowd us ordering drinks was easy. The food a three course menu was presented beautifully and a perfect portion with the vegetables on the side for you to choose as little or as much as you would like. If there was just one criticism the starter, I chose the pate and there really wasn’t enough bread to go with the portion of pate but just a little thing. The frangipane tart for desert was delicious. A perfect lunch I look forward to next year. Thank you The Royal.

Unfortunately, this was my second time here to give it the benefit of the doubt, as on my first visit I had to complain. I had a breakfast which was greasy, but edible. I wouldn't order again. My friend had the veg breakfast, and the burger was very dry. Desert was okay, except my friend had the apple pie with ice cream. It wasn't mentioned when ordering that the ice cream was extra cost. Cherry pancake was the best out of the bunch.

Great restaurant, instant service, drinks came quickly while we were looking at the menu. The menu had an extensive choice of dishes at affordable prices, my meal, the Persian lamb flatbread was delicious and far exceeded my expectations. The staff were very friendly and attentive. A good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it.
