The best restaurants serving British food in Richmondshire Yorkshire and The Humber

Please forgive the terrible pun in the title. Booked a Sunday Lunch for my partner's 40th. From the outside the Heifer is perfectly camouflaged amongst the period buildings bordering the magnificent village green. Right up to the quaint, narrow double door, it exudes traditional village pub vibes. The instant you open those doors and step into the glass cube you are blown away! The interior is immaculate, modern, contemporary and on point. It is definitely a pub/restaurant with a local, regular clientele who were friendly and relaxed. I enquired about parking and received the most down to earth, practical information delivered in a genuine, friendly manner. Maitre D turned out to be mum. Barman was son. Fantastic team. Natural, sociable, professional but above all friendly and welcoming. We were early but it wasn't a problem. We were settled at the bar with drinks. Bar is well stocked and has interesting tipples to enjoy. At the table, the dining area continued to impress. From families to groups and couples it had a great demographic. The decor and ambience continued through from the bar area. I won't detail every course but none of the food disappointed. In fact, it excelled. Chef is certainly on top of his game. Perfectly seasoned and cooked dishes, presented par excellence. Portion size was great, service was prompt and friendly. We stumbled upon a gem. Loved the people, loved the food, loved the experience. Thankyou to all at The Heifer, Scorton.

Xmas eve booked dinner. Great service and food. A must when visiting the area.

Just had an amazing long weekend here. Loved sitting next to the log fire. The welcome and hospitality from all was really special. We were wowed by the food. Check out the steaks and fish dishes! We have already booked our next visit. The room was beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

Good food lovely staff and ambience atmosphere will visit again had the roast which was very fulfilling and desert was to die for

The best pies we have ever tasted. I had locally sourced rabbit with mushroom and leek which was tasty, hot and came with a pile of creamy mash, braised red cabbage and a jug of gravy. Perfectly seasoned and a very generous portion. My husband had steak and ale pie with chunky chips and peas. Service was exemplary and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. We will be back!

Outstanding beers atmosphere and value. We were there when previous reviewers Isabella & Richard L were complaining on New Year's Eve. Their opinion is not ours (& everyone else in the bar btw who sat and watched her bemoan a pheasant burger meal which she ate and then asked for a refund on) - this the polar opposite of our opinion. Thought the owner dealt with her professionally and politely. Enjoyed Timothy Taylors Landlord, local cider (one of 7 cask pumps) and some great food. Recommended 👍

Stayed for two nights without booking first, we were made to feel very welcome and given the ground floor apartment which was really comfortable. The bar had a great atmosphere and food was excellent, a lovely small break, we will return for more.

Amazing service with beautiful food , local produce used, owner’s knowledge of his produce fantastic. Will come again definitely

We stayed at the B&B. Perfect stop before resuming our much (covid) delayed Pennine way walk. Friendly, welcoming host, comfortable room with great views, great breakfast, will stay again if we're back in Hawes.

Acabo de tomar un té de pescado y patatas fritas en el café. OMG fue excelente. El pescado fue el mejor que he probado en mucho tiempo. Cocinado a la perfección. La porción era enorme. Servicio increíblemente amable y acogedor. Por favor, inténtalo si visitas Hawes.

Food was really good & priced well. Front of house team were welcoming & friendly. Dog friendly too. Would visit again when in the area

The Queen's ticks every box. Great service, super menu complimented by a specials board and nice pint of black sheep. Go!

After reading great reviews I called in here on Monday March 27 2023 looking for lunch. Very pleasant and polite member of staff informed me that the restaurant is no longer open to serve daytime meals since they shut at the the end of last season
