What to say, the food was delicious and well cooked, you can see why this place wins awards! (and generous portions too). Service staff were excellent. I’ve booked some duff restaurants for my wife’s birthday in the past, but this one was a success.

I love the BP but the queuing system is a disaster. They only have one front of house who rushes around albeit with a welcoming smile, clearing/cleaning tables whilst simultaneously trying to seat guests. Impossible task for one person resulting in longer queues even when tables are otherwise empty. With no seating for guests with disabilities while they wait, the extensive timeframes mean it is not disability friendly. I’m sure people would rather find their own table rather than queue out of the door! Come on management - you are better than this and so is the BP!

The garden centre this cafe and bistro is attached to has great prices and is always my go-to place for buying bedding plants and other gardening needs. But I've only visited the cafe once and that's down to the bad experience I had when my mother and I visited for lunch. After mooching around the garden centre, we popped in for lunch. New to the area, I was trying out lots of new places to learn what's the best. The ladies at the till taking the orders and making the drinks are all lovely and attentive. The food is also a huge plus - much better quality and prices than the Bell Plantation up the A5 in Towcester. Their cakes are to die for! But the service of the waitstaff is almost comical. In stark contrast to the women at the till, the teenage boys who are waitstaff here (or were when we visited) are appalling. I almost feel sorry for them because it seems like they've had no training. They have no clue where any of the tables are. You see them wandering around aimlessly with plates, calling out like baby birds for their mummas. You have to watch them at all times and listen carefully, calling out when you think you hear your table being called. Growing up, cafes were all like this. They'd yell out a number on your ticket and you'd yell back. But this isn't that type of place so it was an odd experience. My mum refuses to go back as it took half an hour to get our food in the end, and while it was excellent, the service wasn't worth it. I might give it another try - I just hope they've either trained their waitstaff or hired new ones.

On the way back north to Codnor we opted to stop at Northampton Services. A decent little service station (and it really isn't that big) that has everything you need for a satisfactory break from motorway tedium. Decent toilet facilities without that weird "inclusive" rubbish at South Mimms as well as all the usual accompaniments you'd expect from a motorway service station, as well as a few you might not. These include a brand called 'Leon' which prides itself on "naturally fast food" and the somewhat more self-explanatorily named 'Fresh Food Cafe.' All in all, it is a seemingly more healthy motorway service station than some of the others you may come across on your travels. As I say, it has its share of unhealthy tat as well, such as McDonalds, and there are also your standard shops (WHSmith) and your traditional overpriced "we've got you over a barrel" petrol station. It also has a postbox on site, which I absolutely love.

We were looking forward to coffee here. But despite the cafe being advertised as open on Mondays, it was very shuttered up and very closed. Shame that the website didn’t mention that, as we were disappointed. Perfectly understandable in the current economic climate, but we would have preferred to know in advance.

We stumbled across this lovely traditional pub on a recent trip to the area. The staff were friendly and the beer tasted great. A special mention must go to the fantastic food. A decent concise menu but every dish a winner. Our kids loved the pasta but our favourite was the beef bourguignon. The perfect warming antidote to these winter days. We spent a lovely couple of hours there on a Sunday and will hopefully be back soon.

Had partially given up on this branch as it is dirty and unwelcoming and staff poorly motivated. Since Costa opened a new branch in the top of town, this one has appeared to have been deliberately run down. Today's experience was a new one. Went in at 3.20 pm and the sullen member of staff told me it was takeaways only. When asked why, he said they were closing in 20 minutes. The sign on the door said closing at 4pm, which is very early for a town centre location in any case. Left and went to the warm and friendly coffee and cake shop opposite.

They don't allow Dogs. Shame really. Only want a coffee. Food is okay. All ultra processed and full of sugar. Always check the ingredients.

There is a reason that this cafe isn’t rated very high on trip adviser, and it is because of the staff. Miserable doesn’t even cut it. No customer service and more importantly no smiling. We actually felt we were an inconvenience going into the cafe. I felt I should apologise for ordering. Should have gone to Maccy D’s. Also filthy sauce bottles, not been cleaned for several days
