This cafe had a fairly limited menu but was just right for the surroundings, we had really good shortbread with our morning coffee and delicious quiche for lunch, very satisfied, superior to similar facilities in other venues.

We heard the Kings have a new chef so we went with some friends for dinner. The service was good. The food was excellent, my wife and I shred a tomahawk steak and sides and our friends had fish and chips. The place was clean (including the toilets) and the food and service were great.

We had a delicious breakfast and an excellent lunch in recent days at Stooks. Three of us had a quality fried breakfast with coffees a couple of weeks ago. Last week we had a super lunch - two Caesar Salads and a Jacket Potato with prawns. Highly recommend you give Stooks a go. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I rarely write poor reviews but I’m tired of getting to the cafe to find it randomly closed, or not serving hot food, or having most of the items crossed off the board. The effort it takes an elderly relative to get there means we have to put up with whatever is on offer, if anything, at the time. I am gluten intolerant and there is hardly anything available. Yesterday my only choice was scrambled egg and bacon. The serving staff were ‘worried’ that asking the kitchen for a gluten free meal would ‘annoy’ them. I saw the egg appear in the serving hatch but it wasn’t brought over, just sat there coagulating because the bacon hadn’t been cooked. When it arrived the bacon was fatty and only just cooked anyway. I was told the wait was because they’d had to ‘clean down the whole kitchen for gluten.’ I’m intolerant not allergic, maybe ask first! Many of the staff are lovely but judging by the queue, the wait and the kitchen staff attitude there aren’t enough of them at key times. You have a whole supermarket of fresh food downstairs surely you can do better?

Pleasant enough as far as the 'garden' aspect is concerned although not sure if it was an intentional play on words when observing a sign stating: "Bare with us as our Christmas tree delivery has been delayed", so much for modern day education, faulty Spellcheck or as mostly the case these days staff for whom English is not their first language. As for the café the indifference to customers is as bad as ever, bordering on arrogance because nothing has ever been done about it by those responsible. The service is slow with staff seeming to enjoy operating at a gentle pace that suits themselves, pausing to have little chats with each other & often content to engage in a long conversation with a customer, all the time working hard to avoid eye contact with the usual long queue of customers. It's the indifference that is so overwhelming. The staff need replacing as I suspect they have done the job for too long & imagine they have earnt the right to do as they please. The breakfasts are fabulous but my lasting impression is that I have to pay a price, not for the food but to have to endure the dreadful service.

Met my family here today for coffee and lunch. We were not permitted to sit on one of the three long vacant sofas inside to avoid the rain outside. We therefore decided not to have proper lunch. Sitting outside, one toasted sandwich, two milkshakes, one coffee and tea cost me well over £30. My French is very good but to describe my Cheese and Tomato toasty just in the French language was absolutely ridiculous and PRETENTIOUS. The person who took our order had no sense of humour and could not have cared less. Owners of this place please note, the most important asset a company has is its staff - and yours looked so overworked. I will not be returning to your plush sofas which customers are not allowed to sit on!

Second time I've been in since the latest takeover by a regular of 20 odd year. Said owner basically stuck on his laptop at the bar ( maybe I'm wrong ) if I'm right as he was telling the bar staff what to do a simple hello would go a long way. To get to the bar to play pool we had to walk through the lounge disturbing the music as the bar door was not open. If your a real ale fan don't bother its average Guinness or john Smith's. Gutted as when I read in the Echo a local of 20 year was taking over I thought it would make all the difference. In a positive note if you want a private function it should be spot on with the new partition.
