Few reviews I can see aren't for this pub, there are a few punch bowls In York so make sure you review the correct one! Ive not been here for many years, maybe a decade, but I can see since the revamp it was a lot busier than it used to be. Walking into the pub we were greeted with the smell of weed at the entrance, lovely. The front bar area is decorated nice, a lot better than it used to be, the pool area at the back was absolutely freezing cold, no heating at all. there are 2 ladies toilets and one was blocked all night, there's only 2 toilets for ladies but 2 separate rooms for mens toilets, I don't really understand the logic in that. The cubicles are tiny and the doors don't close and lock properly. Played pool, local female chav demanded the pool table from us, as she said it was "her turn" I didn't hear this otherwise I'd of explained the rules to her. My husband allowed her and her crowd to have the table, they obviously don't understand the rule of pool which is "winner stays on" The bar lady was lovely but it's quite an intimidating place to drink in, not for me I'm afraid, won't be going in again.

Used the little shop by the rail track. I was served by a barista that did not add the beans to the app, did not take into account the discount I had and forgot to serve me the muffin I had ordered when I left. When I realised about all the above, came back to sort this out, and he was neither helpful nor polite. Not a good experience, on a site I have always been served very well.

Absolutely appalling. I called in to get a hot chocolate with my daughter and was “greeted” with a grunt by the boy on the till and served 2 hot chocolates and a chocolate cake. The hot chocolate was lukewarm and the cake was very stale. I stood ignored in the queue for a few of a few minutes with a restless toddler before making my way to the front to ask if I could change the cake. I was offered the same dry cake again so I asked if I could swap for a chocolate muffin. The muffin was equally dry and I wasn’t even offered the £1 difference ( the cake was £3.80 and the muffin was £2.80.not one person apologised. The soft furnishings were also filthy.

. ¡Mental!

I was a regular customer to TESCO ASKHAM BAR, YORK until recently when I tried to return a dress which I’d brought for my 4yr old daughter. The staff member at the customer services desk told me I could not return it because I had removed the tags (even though I had the receipt and it was very clear from the condition that the item had not been worn). I asked to speak to a manager and he reiterated the same and said it was company policy. I could not believe what I was hearing. The dress was only £7, which is nothing to Tesco and the amount of profit it makes. Up until this point, I believed that Tesco was a reputable store which put customers first but clearly I was wrong. The store told me to call customer services if I was unhappy, which I did. The call centre advisor logged my complaint and said they had sent it through to the store and they would call me back. It’s now approximately 6-8 weeks since I complained and I’ve not received an acknowledgment or a call back from the store. A friend advised me to try returning the item to another store, which I did. I took it to the Tesco store in Clifton Moor, York. The staff member at the customer service desk accepted my return no issues at all. It was a completely different experience to what I had experienced at Tesco ASKHAM BAR. She checked my receipt and scanned my ClubCard and verified my purchase through my purchase history on my ClubCard, as it was clear to her the dress had not been worn and it was in a saleable condition. I have still not received a response from my complaint logged with TESCO ASKHAM BAR, YORK.

Took my young daughter for afternoon tea, it was busy so needed to wait but it was well worth it. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful ( we wanted just one type of sandwich because we don’t eat meat ) and they sorted this without any fuss. The sandwiches and cakes was super tasty and fresh. I would say just couple of down sides, wish my daughter could have had a juice instead of hot drink with the afternoon tea (But she was still very happy with hot chocolate) And toilets are upstairs, maybe not so good for someone with mobility issues. All in all a very good visit and can’t wait to visit again.

Similar to a previous reviewer, I thought the place was a bit disorganised. We arrived after 12 and ordered the soup. Took a while for someone to take our order, despite there only being only 6 other customers in the place at that point, and at least four waiting staff. Sat for another 20 mins with no soup coming and very little coming out to the tables to other diners. I measn, how long does it take to ladle out two soups, which I presume has been made in advance? In the end I went to the cashdesk and asked had they forgotten. Within 2 mins the soup arrived with apologies. The soup was delicious but as the cafe started filling up with lots of other customers (and very little activity from the staff) we decided to forego the dessert. Either there is only one poor person in the kitchen trying to cater for everyone, or the staff need better training. Sorry, but we won't be going back.
