MD’s Fish Bar: Where Fish & Chips Go to Win Awards and Steal Hearts MD’s Fish Bar in Kettering isn’t just a chippy – it’s a culinary institution. This is where cod becomes king, chips are crisped to golden perfection, and your waistline begs for mercy while your taste buds throw a party. If you’re not already planning your next meal here, you’re doing life wrong. Let’s talk about the fish. It’s not just fresh; it’s award-winning fresh. These fillets are so perfectly battered they could moonlight as supermodels on a fish catwalk. Golden, crunchy, and fried to absolute perfection, you’ll find yourself wondering if this is what happiness tastes like. And then there are the chips – thick, fluffy, and just the right level of salty. They’re the kind of chips that make you forget about kale forever. The menu doesn’t stop at fish and chips, though. Oh no, MD’s is here to cater to all your deep-fried dreams. From battered sausages that could convert even the fussiest eaters to pies that feel like a hug from your gran, there’s something for everyone. And if you’re feeling particularly fancy, the curry sauce is chef’s kiss – an essential dip for your chips (and maybe your fingers when no one’s looking). The portions? Generous. You’ll leave full, happy, and probably carrying a cheeky takeaway box because “it would be a crime to waste this.” And if you’re dining in, the atmosphere is pure “neighbourhood gem” – friendly, no-nonsense, and buzzing with the energy of people who know they’ve come to the right place. Oh, and don’t let the “award-winning” title intimidate you – MD’s isn’t snooty about it. They serve up their masterpieces with a smile, a friendly chat, and possibly the best vinegar-to-chips ratio known to humankind. MD’s Fish Bar is more than a meal; it’s an event. It’s the kind of place that makes you proud to be British because, honestly, who else could turn fried fish and potatoes into a national treasure? Five stars – and a deep-fried extra one for the curry sauce.

I tried to order from my local chippy but they were shut so I took a chance and ordered from here for the first time. The curry and gravy sauces were spilt in the bag quite bad but the part we saved and the rest of the food tasted amazing. It was actually so much better than our usual local chippy and it arrived really fast. We’re going to be ordering from here in future. I’m glad we chanced it. Thank you. 😄

21/09/2024 1st time visiting … table for 2; Staff couldn’t have been nicer. Young lady, very helpful with one of the party needing gluten free, the chef / owner was also very polite and made you feel very welcomed. The calamari, prawn cocktail starters were delicious. The main was lobster with a chilli sauce, which was a very well cooked and beautifully tasting, one of the nicest lobsters I’ve had, very nice! As were the prawns in garlic butter main. Overall couldn’t fault anything about it. Clean, nice atmosphere and a couple of Thai beers to wash it down. Definitely got regular returning customers. Thanks again & see you soon!

love to visit this fish and chip shop, their service is amazing and so is the food. There is a range of different options on the menu not just fish and chips which gives every member of the family more than one option on what they would like to eat. I would recommend this fish and chips shop to anyone who is thinking of visiting.

Let’s be clear. This is the best chip shop that is not on the coast we go regularly and never any problems. Really enjoy it. Friendly staff. It’s busy, really popular. And can’t fault it usually. However if you go anywhere near closing time then they won’t warm up any pies so you get what you get. Is sort of understandable However they’ve changed pies, now have teeny thick dry pastry pies, with dry ‘filling’ fairly tasty, presumably some ‘premium’ brand that have got it all wrong. Now I’m sure the defence will be high quality meat etc locally reared but if the pastry is too thick and the sauce inside all but gone then it doesn’t really do the quality of the meat any favours. And I don’t care about cost. I didn’t even notice if the price had gone up. I just don’t want to drive home and then be disappointed when I open what is normally an excellent takeaway. I’ll come again but back to the fish for me

Had fish, chips, mushy peas & curry sauce. Not tasted anything like them before. Freshly cooked, chips thin crispy on the outside, fluffy delicious flavour potatoes, cod perfectly cooked in a light crispy batter, peas & curry sauce just the right consistency. Well worth the money, absolutely delicious
