Service was very good. I only stayed one night but on arrival the receptionist was welcoming, polite and helpful. The room was clean and spacious but a bit noisy with the road outside even with double glazing. Car park was at the rear and spacious.

Stumbled upon this place yesterday, 8th November and I’m so glad that we did. The food was so good and it felt as though we were both back walking the Camino Frances again. Good honest tapas in a down to earth, no frills, Family run restaurant. Honestly, give it a go. We’ll most certainly be going back. 👍🏻

Outstanding Experience at El Castillo Tapas Restaurant (23rd Jan 2025) From the moment we walked into El Castillo, we were blown away. The food was absolutely outstanding—beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. Every dish was crafted with such care and attention to detail, it was clear the chef took great pride in their work. The service was equally amazing. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The ambience of the restaurant was perfect—warm, inviting, and full of charm, creating the ideal setting for a wonderful dining experience. On top of all this, the pricing was very reasonable for the quality of food and service provided. El Castillo is a real gem in Bishop Auckland, and we will definitely be back. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Great Food, Great Service and a Great Evening!!

My recent visit left much to be desired. The pricing, at £29 per person without drinks, felt steep, especially considering the meal left me feeling unsatisfied. The vegetable paella, unfortunately, lacked any flavour and contained what appeared to be frozen vegetables, which were very mushy. On a brighter note, the croquettas were enjoyable, and the service was acceptable. However, overall, the evening did not meet expectations. I would not recommend dining here

I will start this review by saying that I was born and raised in Spain, which may bias my opinion due to knowing how the actual Spanish culture is. I also understand the differences between customer service and food chains in London and in Spain since I work as an assistant manager in a restaurant. Having these in consideration, the first thing to point out was the horrific customer service given to us. We were a group of 8 who came 10 minutes late. We had a reservation from 18:00 to 21:00. Besides being asked what we wanted to order over 3 times in less than 5 minutes, our waitress was neither looking at us nor speaking in a way that was understandable. I wish he at least would have taken our orders correctly. A chain of restaurants "specialized" in tapas, which are meant to be small plates to share, should understand the sizes of the groups or at least be able to recommend accordingly to the customer needs. The portions were surprisingly small. We didn't expect Mediterranean portions, but not having to order a minimum of two of everything since we ordered around 10 small plates for 8. The mains were not an exception to being criticized since, again, the portion compared to the price was ridiculously small. The taste was acceptable, but the "unfortunate" timings of the waiter, who took the orders wrong and had to ask repeatedly for several things, were quite disappointing. It all started when we had to change from Iberica Canary Wharf, where I heard amazing things related to great portions and customer service due to some maintenance issues. After requesting a discount for the inconvenience, which they didn't offer, we moved to Iberica Farrindon because there was no other place to change being so close to Christmas. Overall quite displeased and ashamed since the only one who did their job properly was the woman on the reception. Definitely not worth it to go if you are expecting to eat properly and at a decent price.

Pretty good place considering the location. I've been twice and as a person who grew up in Barcelona the food is pretty decent. I'm not Galician and I can't say if it's original or not... but the bravas are always drowned in sauce, and they're not really eaten like that. Check the recipes and you will improve a lot. Finally, salsa IS NOT SPANISH MUSIC, it is Latin music.

I recently planned a surprise birthday for my sister at Maritimos. The whole process was super smooth and nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff. The birthday celebration was perfect and I want to sincerely thank all of the staff at Maritimos for making it a very special night for myself, my family and most of all, my sister. Thank you so much!

We have been coming to Espanol for many years and would always recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. From the moment you walk through the door the atmosphere is always very warm, welcoming and extremely friendly. The food is always top quality hence why we keep coming back. The sangria and cocktails are also definitely worth a try, you won’t be disappointed. A big thank you to all front and back of house for the amazing experience.
