Everest Gurkha Nepalese Restaurant in York

This was the perfect place to celebrate a birthday! We had a wonderful time, and everything about our celebration was fantastic. The service was excellent, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend this place for birthdays or any special occasion!

Extremely rude and poor behaviour of the staff. I requested a table for myself and was pointed to a lonely, empty table in the extreme corner, as if sending me to sit there as a punishment. I said I wanted to sit at a diff spot at the beautifully decorated tables, but they refused. A staff came to clean the table, and I went to the restroom, thinking meanwhile they will set up that table for me. But no, absolutely nothing. No hospitality, no warmth, I just didn't feel respected and welcomed. The staff kept saying other tables are reserved for people and they keep that corner table empty like that for solo diners and only set up when people come in. So am I not people??!!! Will u only decorate for the prime minister or what! The restaurant was mostly empty on a Monday evening, they had plenty of space even upstairs, but they would not let me sit at a nice table! I freaking don't understand why I was treated so differently and rudely. I was so hungry and so looking forward to trying Nepalese cuisine, but they don't seem hospitable people. I have been a solo traveller for 6 years now and not once have I been treated so poorly just because I went alone. Utterly disappointed and hurt.

Food is really good,owners themselves do the serving so really good service had chicken chilli one of the best i had and khana set was really good as well recommended if u like some Nepalese cousin.

Well, what a brilliant place this is, we booked for a very cold and miserable Saturday night and have never had Nepalese food before, it was AMAZING. I am a real lover of spicy and curry foods and this place really did deliver. MO MOs for starter with chilli were fantastic and the main course we had a selection of differing dishes that were just perfect. beer and food was very reasonable in price. Staff were amazing and so quick to help, advise and serve and they really did go all out. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes spicy food to try, amazing

Came across this place while in York, what a lovely place, all the staff are so lovely, the food is to die for, we ended cancelling our reservation at a different restaurant and came back here, and again all was lovely, Well recommended 5*****

Was in York for 3 days and visited this hidden gem twice! Tried meat dishes and vegetarian dishes on separate days and they were all packed with flavour and served piping hot. On both occasions the staff members were very friendly and made sure we’re happy with the food. Had old Everest pork belly curry and it’s beautifully cooked and melts in the mouth. Their fried rice was wok kissed perfectly. Had soup momo and chili momo, thoroughly enjoyed both. Chili momo is pan fried first then tossed in a spicy sauce with onion, bell pepper, tomato and cilantro, which is flavourful and hearty. Soup momo is served in a spice-based soup, I find it to be the perfect starter as the soup is slightly tangy. If you enjoy noodle soup I’d recommend their thukpa, I had tried both vegetable thukpa and special thukpa, it’s noodles in savoury broth with stir fried onion, carrot, cabbage and a hint of garlic and cilantro. The special thukpa has a slice of lemon on which gives it a zesty kick. Will defo visit again whenever I’m in York! Typing this review and I’m hungry again lol

I had the butter chicken. I didn't like it. I also miss the starters like at the Indian restaurant. The dumplings were good but a bit bland. Music a bit too loud. Service was tried hard.

We had to wait a little while to get our table on a busy Sunday and I can definitely see why. Friendly staff, very welcoming atmosphere and gorgeous food. The two ladies who served us were excellent!

Delicious Nepalese lamb thahli set and great service

Beautiful food, good sized portions, and a lovely atmosphere. My partner had the lamb curry and I had the pork belly curry- both meats were tender and the curry flavoursome. The egg fried rice was a large portion and light, not greasy or soggy. The fried pork momos are also amazing as a starter! We will be back next time we are here!

I just popped in for some quick takeaway veggie dumplings. It was only 3 on a weekday so it was a little empty inside but the staff was friendly. Hands down some of the best and most tasty veggie dumplings I’ve had in my life.

Stumbled upon this cozy Nepalese spot in York and it’s a total gem! Their momos felt authentic and had the juicy element in it. It felt like a little slice of Nepal right in the UK. They also serve Indian dishes, full of flavour and roadside kick while still keeping it hygienic. 4 stars.

It was my first time eating at a Nepalese restaurant and I loved it. I explained to the waiter that I don't like spicy food and he was super friendly, making fantastic recommendations. The place is spacious and the food is exquisite. We were a very large group and they were able to serve us all at the same time and very quickly. The rice is cooked to perfection and is delicious. Totally recommended!!

Booked in advance, lucky we did, was packed. Food was outstanding, staff very friendly and accommodating, a real gem.

A must try for those who are attracted by spicy flavours. Advised choices: spicy mushrooms, black lentils and traditional dumplings' soup. Great service here with plenty of recommendations from the gentle staff. Cozy atmosphere, the right place if you are searching for a warm short break from the wintry weather.

As a vegetarian, I can only speak for that but we ordered the Palak Paneer, and the rajma masala, with rice and garlic bread to share. When I first tasted the Palak Paneer, I thought I must have lucked out, and ordered the best thing on the menu (even though everyone else I was with verbalised the same about their choices!), but then, when I got to tasting the rich creamy pressure cooked kidney beans of the Rajma Masala, I think my taste buds melted, so, so good! I can't recommend enough! There were two meat eaters in the group also said "the best meal I've had out in a long time" and other words along those same lines. The thali also looked huge and great! Lovely staff, dealing well with everyone at a busy time!

Fabulous food and very nice staff.

A long, thin restaurant on several floors. Food served very elegantly with good blend of spicy flavours. We had the chefs menu choice which was very tasty. The mango lassi was lovely, and more dessert like. Staff very attentive and responsive. Lovely.

Delicious Nepalese food in a homely setting. It was fairly busy at lunchtime, but service was good. Our dishes were all good - freshly cooked and generous. Prices are very reasonable. Unlike other restaurants, no service charge is added to your bill, which allows you to tip if you wish. If we lived in York, we could try all of the menu. It is very good. Highly recommended. The restaurant was a finalist in the recent contest for Nepalese Restaurant of the Year!

Marvellous experience. I had visited Nepal many years ago as a student, and tasting the Everrst's fried Momos made me feel as if I'd travelled back in time -- they taste authentic and warming. The same went for the mango lassi we each had, which was cool and delicious. Our waiter was a charming guy and we had a great conversation together.

I last visited about 3 years ago, and the food was unbelievable. I came back today and nothing has changed. The food was fantastic, the staff are lovely, I couldn’t fault it at all.

Believe the hype! Delicious Nepalese food. We loved every single morsel. We had the Lamb Thali, Salmon Thali, Himalayan Lamb, garlic naan, dumpling soup. And dessert, the Carrot Halwa. All exactly the right balance of spices and flavour. All the ingredients were super fresh. We will DEFINITELY come back. Oh and the service was friendly and the prices very reasonable. Less than £100 for 4 very full and satisfied adults :-)

First time here , and I was not disappointed , nice friendly people and restaurant , I thought I'd go ' full hog' and try one of the Nepalese specials , lamb with assorted Nepalese ecroutrements , it was outstanding nice , my wife had their take on chicken korma and rice , again excellent, I had a traditional Nepalese beer - nice 😊 , my wife wine , all good and , this being york , not expensive , not far from ' whip ma wot ma gate , abd parliament square, if in york it's worth the visit, opens from 5pm

This restaurant was truly one of the best restaurants we visited in our trip to the UK. The food was superb, the service was good and it had a lovely quaint atmosphere. Loved it.

It is very hard to please me especially when it comes to food but these guys are the best, from the quality of food to the portion down to the service is superb.. I am vouching 💯% for this restaurant and the food is very affordable.

Tourist trap. Not great at all considering the location. The food is below average, the price is ok for what you get but most people here don't come here for service or atmosphere. Won't be returning.

Beautifully cooked food, amazing flavours. Momo and lamb taas to start and Himalayan lamb and chicken sagarmatha for mains. No room for dessert! They offer options for level of spice with obviously more spicy dishes highlighted as such on the menu. Very good value,will be back when we next visit York!

We enjoyed this very much. The relaxed atmosphere with caring and attentive service was topped by some amazing food: chicken tikka curry, garlic naan, and these steamed momos, pictured. The richness of the spices and flavors combined with their great service made this a great meal.

I’ve been to Everest Gurkha several times, and never had an issue. The food is always superb and the service is lovely. Everyone is very passionate about serving good food — which in my opinion, is the best in York! Definitely recommend a visit here.

Our first visit. Warm welcome, with courteous and friendly service throughout our visit. The food was very good, tasty and full of flavours. Very reasonable prices. We hope that we will return soon.

Absolutely delicious. Atmosphere is cozy and very Nepalese as far as I would know. Convenient part of York to stop and get a bite. Fair prices and good food, what more could you ask for? I got the recommended set dinner. Would definitely recommend.

We love Nepalese food and our mains were authentic and delicious. The cheesy roasted potatoes were not authentic but croquettes served with chips which was a let down as everything else was good. Very good value for the mains and the wine. Good friendly service.

Two different passers-by stopped to recommend eating here while we were perusing the menu outside - and they were right! Really friendly staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent - another customer recommended the Himalayan Lamb and it was a great choice: beautifully soft with a delicious sauce. The chicken karahi was also excellent. I would definitely call again.

A little gem of a restaurant with superb service and amazing food! We stumbled upon it looking for a table of 6 and the staff couldn't have been any more accommodating! The chicken tika masala was the best we have ever tasted in our lives. This was our first time experiencing Nepalese cuisine, and we all really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend! Really looked forward to eating here with my wife after seeing the rave reviews. I asked for help either menu regarding level of heat etc. as we hadn’t eaten in a Nepalese restaurant before Food was flavourful some hotter than we liked but overall the experience was good. Staff were pleasant. Got the bill then it went downhill. Hand written in poor English and not clear pricing. I thought they had overcharged us but they assured me that it was correct and their smiling faces convinced me it was. Checking later at the hotel and rounding everything up they had overcharged as we thought. Put it down to experience but be aware.

Located in Foss Gate, Prime location in the centre of York, This Everest Gurkha had served us an Authentic and exotic food. We tasted a real taste of Nepal with Nepalese lager. Our group was satisfied with an hour and half spent on Friday night. I would recommend this restaurant. We tried chow mein, momo both steamed and jhol, Taas and Nepalese lager.
