Very tasty food but child size portions for adult size prices. I wouldn’t recommend the chow mein it is very greasy hardly any meat and very salty. He wouldn’t need to have to spend a fortune in that place and in order to get full.

Awesome Nepalese place in York, ideal for a weekend dinner. The menu has many different options and the waiters are friendly and always helpful. I recommend!!

5 star for the food quality and taste. I have tried many nepalese restaurant, by far this one was the best. Everything is clean, not unnecessary spice mixed together. It’s fresh wholesome sole food with simplicity and not greasy and overall just cooked so well. Everything was fresh. Price was decent. Staff were very respectful and friendly. Momos , thukpa and chowmein all are just superb. If you are looking for authentic comforting warm food then you should visit here. Thank you all the chefs in the kitchen for bringing such a good experience on the plate.

I recently dined at this restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed, finding that the positive reviews did not align with my experience. Ambience and Cleanliness: The establishment appeared unkempt, with dirty and poorly maintained toilets, indicating a need for significant upgrades. Food Quality: The meal was subpar; notably, the lamb was as tough as shoe leather. Service: The only redeeming aspect was the staff, who were very pleasant. Given these issues, I am perplexed by the restaurant's high rating.

I cannot stress enough about the ‘Momo thukpa’ we had here, just the right consistency, perfectly cooked, hot enough to beat the cold outside. Really recommended if you want some Nepali style momo.

Came to eat here on the 27th with family. We were the only ones in but then again we were in quite early for a friday night. The momo we had to start were good, no complaints on that. We all had Dhal bhaat, it was not bad by any means but not worth 17.99, we asked for our curries to be hot/spicy but none of them were, we also ordered sukuti to have alongside the mains but they were quite tough and lacked any form of flavour, they were like charcoal bullets. The service was going well up until when we paid the bill, we were overcharged by almost £20 and we couldn’t figure out the costs of things on the bill as it was handwritten instead of a printed receipt. Overall experience was okay but not worth being overcharged.

Very reasonably priced, I've been a couple of times and wasn't disappointed either time . If possible, I try to use small businesses instead of large corporate ones as you tend to get better service, and the food is 99.9% better . This place does not disappoint .

A raving disappointment after reading the reviews I was expecting an excellent meal but sadly not ! I had the pork curry my friend had lamb both of them were tough chewy and sub par with frankly tiny portions … to start we had the momo I had chilli chicken which was very good he had pork steamed which was ok but the onion inside needed more cooking. The staff are superb both attentive and friendly … all in all a great disappointment we will not be visiting again.

Had starters and main course Firstly can’t fault the service Or the food But the portion sizes not great More dumpling please on the starter 4 on the plate for £6.99 expensive 4 ribs for £7.99 ! Mains pork curry and a portion of Lamb , great but not enough sauce to soak up the rice which was plentiful Bit disappointing

Wonderful service. We came from Aldershot for graduation ceremony. The owners were very friendly, kind and welcoming. Food was delicious. Especially dal bhat masu pork Nepali style. The server was also celery thoughtful. They even prepared a Nepali khana for us. We felt at home here. Highly recommended for proper authentic Nepali cuisine. Rai family from Solu.

Went here on an evening after a little wander around the cathedral and Shambles. The food (snacks) was delicious and properly spicy, as they should be. The finishing chai was also a nice taste and flavourful. The staff were lovely as well. The pricing was a tad bit expensive especially just for snacks and tea. Would definitely go again to try their food menu.

Preguntaron si queríamos la red cuando despejaron los entrantes o queríamos un breve descanso entre ellos, eso siempre es agradable, especialmente porque en algunos establecimientos nos han presentado la red sin dejar de comer los entrantes. Fantastic food, and has been for at least 7 years. Every time I am impressed, and I particularly recommend the Steamed Momo, Sukuti, Everest Lamb and Bhuteko Bhat. If you have a large stomach, also the dals, which are delicious but I never have room for them. Highly recommended.

Not had a Gurkha Curry / Meal for over 20 years since working along side the Gurkha regiment back in 2004….This place is just amazing!!! Rammed, even at 7pm in the evening at opening time….all the way through the evening Deceivingly large portions, disguised as small If we could give this place a Michelin star 🌟 we would!

Been going to Y&Y for a number of years. Love the food and the great service. We visited Nepal and were invited to meet some of Bom & Krishna's family in Ghandruk. It was very special. We visited on Saturday and it was great.

My partner and I live in York and we probably visit Yak & Yeti every few months, it's our favourite place in York. We had a booking for 22 people yesterday to celebrate our engagement, and every single person couldn't speak more highly about the food and the service. The food was incredible as always, and every single person got what they had ordered and the staff were so accommodating. We can't recommend Yak & Yeti enough, and consider it the best restaurant in the city by far. Thank you to all the staff who work there for helping us celebrate our special day x

Delightful little upstairs restaurant, family run with unique and tasty dishes. I advise you took book, it get very busy here and limited seating.. That said you will not regret it. The food here authentically home cooked by the family. With several generations all joining in for dinner when it quietens down in the evening. Food portions are just right, not huge buy very filling and tasty and the prices are very reasonable. Ghurkhali Pork and Annapurna Chicken, complement our beef Momo perfectly. A delicious little find in the heart of the city 😋

We shared the starters - Gurkhali Achar and Tareko Macha, which were both delicious. Then we had Daal Baat Masu and Daal Baat Macha, which give a chance to taste the variety of Gurkha cooking. Deliciously spiced, not too hot but full of flavour. Lovely service, and great value.

First time to visit The Yak and Yeti Gurkha restaurant and also first time to taste Nepalese food. Oh my, the food were all delicious (veg&chicken momo, yak and yeti chicken and beef, chowmein special, spare ribs, lamb with sauce). We've been served right away. I highly recommend this place 👌. Wonderful place and sumptuous food. Definitely worth going when you're in the City of York.

We visited for a late lunch, so the restaurant was quiet. It's up a flight of stairs, so not accessible for all. There was a pleasant atmosphere, with traditional music playing in the background. The service throughout was welcoming, friendly, and polite. The menu is fairly varied, except for the desserts. Vegetarian options are clearly marked. The food was delicious, pleasantly spiced with mild heat. The portions were reasonable. I'll be happily returning next time I'm in York.

We came late and a big group, and they were extremely nice and accommodating! Lovely people working there and extremely good food!

Great service and good atmosphere. Unfortunately, while the original flavours are there, they are weak and bland. Perhaps they water down the spices to match the local preference. But I was looking for the bold flavours I had when I was in Nepal. If you don't like spices but want to try Nepalese food, then recommended.

We had the chilli vegetable momos, the Nepali Tarkari and the Annapurna Chicken. All were delicious. One of us is vegetarian and had quite a few options to choose from. The waiters were friendly and helpful. Would visit again.

What a lovely wee place to visit fir my birthday treat while visiting york. The food was so good but the staff take time to have a chat and you go in as a customer but leave as friend. I don't think we have a nepal restaurant in Belfast. Thank you all for making my birthday special.

Wow! We loved it here! The chicken stir fry, potato starter and the lamb curry were cooked to absolute perfection. Our 2-year-old gobbled loads of it up too, so children who handle bold flavours well will enjoy their experience too. A quiet restaurant, quick service and friendly staff made our evening even better.

I've been to Yak and Yeti a few times now, and the food never fails to deliver. After travelling around Nepal and missing the food the Yak and Yeti provide you with an authentic Nepalese food experience. The food is great with the steamed momos being my personal favourite. In addition to this restaurant provides a great selection of vegetarian/vegan options also! Our server was prompt and took drinks and food orders quickly. The only negative comment I had is that the decor is dated and looks in need of an update. But for food experience, I would highly recommend Yaki and Yeti, and I'll be returning myself!

Always satisfied with my fav combo of Pork steamed Momo and Chowmein 🤤 . With fresh ingredients, right spices and chef Abin’s amazing culinary skills, Yak and Yeti never fails to serve dishes of authentic Nepalese taste and flavours right here in York…. always a delightful visit!!

Nepalese Gurkha Restaurant in York. Extensive varied menu particularly good choice for vegetarians but with specialties like buffalo meat. We chose to share Mo Mo pork dumplings and veggie pakoras which were completely delicious. For the main course we had Yak and Yeti special chow mien with chicken and prawns. As well as the excellent food this place is outstanding for its courteous attentive service. Would thoroughly recommend.

The Nepali dhal bhat here is absolutely the best I have found in the UK. The flavors are authentic, rich, and perfectly balanced, making each bite a delightful journey back to Nepal.

It was a delicious meal. We went next door and acquired a bottle of wine, as they do not sell alcohol. The restaurant was quiet and inviting, and the staff was attentive.

Courteous and polite service. Restaurant is up on the first floor via a flight of steps. Quite spacious room. Gluten free and vegan options available on menu. I tried the Gurkhali spiced tea and was a bit surprised it came in a glass mug and not in a teapot as shown on the menu photograph. It was mighty tasty though. I had the vegetable pakora starter and they were delicious (four on a plate). For mains I had the vegan Daal Bhat Tarkari with a choice of black or yellow lentil daal. Never having had black lentils before I tried them. The meal was good, tasty and filling. I would revisit.

Did go a few years ago food was good decided as back in York take a friend..absolutely disappointing bland and tea likes Nat p never to return..actually had micro meals same taste sorry but true

The food was delicious. The mo mo dumplings were amazing. We had a portion of steamed pork and chilli buffalo. Both were delicious, I could have happily eaten plate after plate of those. Yummy For mains I had the thali style plate with a portion of salmon curry with rice, popadum, chutney, dhal and chickpea & potato curry and steamed veg. The veg was gorgeous and the salmon curry was some of the tastiest food I’ve eaten. My husband had the beef stir fry and special rice and he said it was delicious. Would highly recommend and definitely return. We tried to get in a few weeks ago but it was full (should have booked) so decided to go on a Saturday at 12.30pm as soon as they opened. Also had the homemade lemonade which was lovely. Prices were very good for food and drinks.

Summary: Authentic, tasty, homely and YOU NEED TO GO! I came here because I am absolutely in love with Nepali food and wanted to have a try of a variety of dishes. This included stuff like momo, chow mein, thupka, and choila. However, I came away with the BEST meal: DAL BHAT TARKARI. After having this, I think about how much I want to go back to Yak and Yeti and have it again. The staff are lovely, attentive and welcoming, and the atmosphere is comfortable and cosy - exactly what you need with a lovely meal. I recommend finishing with a cup of chiya.

An outstanding meal in every way. This is true Nepalese food - absolutely authentic. The flavours were delicate and distinctive and the preparation and presentation exquisite. And the Ghurka aspect is real! the family served with the Ghurkas and it is a central part of their lives even now they have settled in York. The ties are very strong. I dined with a former Ghurka officer from many years ago. They were so welcoming to him and chatted eagerly about service life - it was so touching and kind of them. I will always be grateful to them for a memorable evening.

Fantastic food, extremely fresh and tasty. A first experience of Nepalese food and it was absolutely brilliant. The MoMo and Chicken Wings to start were beautiful and the Everest Lamb for main were stunning. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend this place.

The decor and ambience is authentically Nepalese. We made a day out to York planning an evening meal in the restaurant. Friendly staff, every body spoke to us. We knew all the dishes, and the ones that we ate or packed were worthy. Momo was good as expected, buff sukuti was good too. The chowmein was Nepali flavoured and the chick pea curry in the Daal Bhaat set was pleasing. Our toddler son enjoyed the Chowmein while my daughter gave top marks for momo. We also tasted a few other things, and were all good. The restaurant was full, the service was prompt by that standard.

Absolutely lovely food, and very friendly service. This place felt very real. Although I have never been to Nepal, I would imagine that any inauthenticity in a Nepalese restaurant in northern England would lead to the food, ambience or service taking on a northern flavour, but that did not appear to be the case here. I had that wonderfully exciting feeling of being on holiday in a place where things are delightfully different. Definitely a place to try.

Lovely Nepaless food, I love my traditional food and the foods are to die for. I took two of my friends who never tried Nepaless food before, I recommended some chilli momos, chilli chips, rice and vegetables curry, chicken curry and my veggie friend had fish curry for her main. They all loved it especially momos! Would definitely recommend ❤️

We had a gorgeous dinner here, we ordered a dry buffalo starter that was delicious as well as the lemonade and pork curry. Lovely mix of flavours and great service.

Been to yak and yeti twice. Both times absolutely delicious. Get the chilli momo and Everest lamb 🔥🔥🔥. Atmosphere is rlly nice and the service is even better (the waiter even ran down the street after me when I left because I forgot my headphones. GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE). Defo one of the best hidden spots in York.

Had reserved a table, and arrived on time to find the restaurant completely full, no explanation and menus thrusted into our hands while we waited (nearly 15 minutes for people to leave and for others in front of us, who hadn’t pre-booked to be seated first) Menu is limited but we were aware of this, but on top of the limited menu we were told there were no lamb dishes available. Very disappointed as booked this for a birthday based on the reviews here, staff didn’t seem very customer focused given the circumstances.

The Lamb curry was also delicious and I was very satisfied! If you have a chance to go, I definitely want you to order the buffalo gyoza! ! It was the most delicious restaurant on our one night and two day trip to York! !

Went as a family to experience the cuisine of Nepal. This is the real deal and is the best Nepali food in the North of England. Definitely recommend. The momo are the highlight of the menu. Portions are smaller than you’d get in an average restaurant but is more than made up for in quality. You get what you pay for which is authentic quality food. 10/10

We visited having read the good reviews, but left quite disappointed. Portion sizes were really small, and overall, we felt that the prices were high for what we had and didn't represent good value for money. The quality of ingredients was good, however with main dishes alone between £13 and £15 we expected much more food on our plates.

My husband has been to Nepal and loved the cuisine, so we wanted to go somewhere authentic. This Nepalese 🇳🇵 family run venue is authentic, the food is delicious (we had the daal) and the staff were lovely. Will return when we next visit York.

Lovely place, really calming, wonderful interior with great thangkas. Momos, nepali tarkari and especially the homemade lemonade was wonderful.
