Very tasty authentic food with good portion sizes. Would highly recommend. Ok, it's not fine dining silver service, but that's not what we were looking for. The staff were on it with plenty to choose from. Looking forward to going again.

The food had good taste and flavour, but the portion sizes were disappointing. My partner and I finished everything, and it just felt like there was not enough—definitely not abundant. For example, the Pad Thai could have had a bit more to it, and the soup had only a couple of prawns. The Padang Curry and pork dumplings were tasty, but the dumplings were tiny, and you only get five. For value for money, especially ordering through delivery, it fell short. Small details, like a slice of lime or a sprinkle of crunchy nuts on the Pad Thai, could have elevated the meal but were missing. Overall, it was mediocre and lacked that special touch, which is why I would give it three stars.

We go to this Restaurant regularly! Great food, lovely Staff. My Daughter now lives away from York, apart from coming home she always wants to book a table at her favorite restaurant.

The food was tasty and piping hot when served (which is standard for typical Asian cuisine), but I felt the chef could have done better. The cleanliness level was a bit concerning—after my first sip of the tom yum soup, something seemed off, and later in the day, I experienced some stomach issues. However, the warm hospitality from the waiter made me willing to give this place another try. It is a very small shop, so I would suggest avoiding large groups. Also, they offer a 10% discount if you pay by cash.

Food is ok but ordered a delivery through Deliveroo and they left off half the order. I called the restaurant and they basically said they’d do nothing about it and I should contact Deliveroo. I told them that the delivery wasn’t the issue and it was the missing order (that I paid for) and just wanted the rest of my order and they told me they wouldn’t help. It’s really good enough to be honest.

Ordered Pad Thai and Crispy Chicken with rice to takeaway. The worst food I have ever eaten in York....tasteless, tiny portions, crispy chicken was basically in a water sauce, bbq sauce used in the pad Thai... I wouldn't feed it to my dog and I don't even have a dog.

I am a regular at Mommy Thai and the service was just unacceptable the last time I went honestly made me never want to go back again. We made requests as nice as we could and he just replied in such a rude manner. A good way to basically tell us to never come back which is such a shame because they do have good food but portions are getting smaller, no drinks provided with the lunch meals and getting more expensive. The fact this his how they treat their regulars is so heartbreaking. It should be a given that if our english isn’t the best you explain what there is on the new menu. My mother cannot read the menu and did an honest mistake accidentally not ordering the starter to go with the lunch meal (you’d go in for the lunch deal) and the server (ginger guy) not only not allow us to add the starter back on but also charged us full price as if it were an evening meal when the portions would be exactly the same?? Honestly so disappointed as there was so much empty space where the starter should have gone.

ordered some takeaway at 5pm, paid cash and didn’t get the 10% off. thought it would be okay as it’s good food. Got home and two of the dishes were wrong and had no vegetables in the curries at all. very disappointed and not worth the 25 min wait.

The food was good, but not great. It came really quickly- we were still eating our starters when the mains came. Later, however, I did have stomach problems, though I can't be sure it was because of this.

Incredible service and truly delicious food. Some of the best I've had in York. The atmosphere is second to none, with this cosy home cooking vibe. The staff are friendly and clearly love what they do. You'll definitely be seeing us again.

We called to place an order to collect, their phone number didn’t work on the website. When the food arrived, the orders were wrong. When we called to ask them to send the right order they informed us that the kitchen was closed and was being cleaned so they couldn’t. I requested a refund, they offered a discount but as we are not from york and just visiting, this did not suit us. I asked to settle it over the phone as we are leaving before they open tomorrow and they said they could only do it in store. I wasn’t prepared to paid for another Uber to get over there. Unfortunately we were not able to get a refund or the right food. Then to add to the dilemma, we found a large piece of egg shell in the batter of the crispy chicken we ordered. Not a good experience. The food order was wrong because the menu on their website is wrong even though we clicked on the ‘York’ tab, this was not mentioned to us at the time of ordering. They were also unable to give us a receipt because the machine was broken.

We ordered green curry and tom yum gong, which tasted great! Very very Asian taste! Unfortunately, I originally ordered Thai milk tea but it was not available. The price is very affordable, and there are discounts for cash

Food is authentic, services is quick and with a smile. Yes it’s small, decor a bit interesting and doesn’t suit everyone’s taste but who cares the food is brilliant! Chicken satay everytime and the Red/green curries amazing

A fantastic find and a real little gem in York, away from the hustle and bustle. The food was delicious, service was quick and friendly and the restaurant a delight; small, intimate and cosy with a nice vibe. Prices were reasonable and you can see the chef from the restaurant.

Mommy Thai has undergone some changes, unfortunately, mostly negative. The set lunch price has increased from £7.95 to £9.5, and they no longer offer soft drinks. I used to enjoy visiting them frequently, but today, the service was extremely disappointing. The waiter provided me with the menu but never returned to take my order. Instead, he served customers who arrived after me, which felt unfair. Despite making several eye contacts, he still did not come to serve us. I’ll never visit this unfriendly restaurant anymore. Not recommended.

Do I happen to be the ethnicity you discriminate against or something? If not then why is every other table served by you except for mine? I came earlier than those tables, even the last customers who entered were served, we made eye contact with you so many times, and even asked you whether we can order now, you straight up ignored us, what’s your reason for being so rude?

It’s rare to have (Thai) duck soup noodle in the U.K. and I’m happy to say it tastes authentic and delicious. The Thai fish cakes are nice as well.

We came here for dinner on the recommendation of our daughter who’d had lunch here with her husband and their little boy the previous week. The restaurant is small and unpretentious but warm and welcoming. I ordered the prawn pad Thai and my wife had a prawn and noodles bowl in a yellow curry. How to describe our food in two words?: Absolutely sensational. The presentation of the pad Thai might not have been as elegant as you’d find in some chain Thai restaurants but give me Mommy Thai over any of them for the succulence and complexity of the dishes and for the generosity of the serving of fat scrumptious prawns. To accompany our food we had a bottle of superb perfectly chilled Viognier at under £20. Phenomenal value. It was a Monday night at the restaurant was busy. No wonder. The young man who served us was a star. What a find!

Had take away. 5/10. The good first Pad Thai and Crispy Chicken mains were lovely. Starters terrible. Shared 4 starters. Moo yang pork ok. Ribs terrible all fat Dumpling terrible doughy thick tasteless Satay chicken terrible no satay sauce on chicken. Would not use again.

Have eaten in before and always been happy. Ordered a take away through deliveroo and the restaurant hadn’t put the chicken in the dish. Rang to let them know and they weren’t interested. Eat in but don’t get a take away from them.

Checked their takeaway menu as what their website shows. Noted down all the dishes we want and called to order a pick-up. Tried calling for 30 minutes from 2 mobiles and 1 landline and can never get through. So we drove there instead, and was told their phone breaks down (don’t know what impact it has on a business). Started placing the order - now was told the York menu online is NOT accurate. It is indeed the Leeds menu and York has a different menu. They blamed the company who made their website - but guess if it’s a known issue for a while, Mommy Thai can request it to be fixed? Fair enough, no starter platter right, let’s skip the starter. Tom Yum Soup shows £4 on the menu but £5.45 at York. Not impressed but ok go ahead with the order. 3rd dish on my list is NOT available in their branch (again, in Leeds only). Hm…. After discussion with my family we decided to go somewhere else. Lucky we got a few options marked down on Google Maps (we are not local residents, just visiting the city), so got a backup in hand at that moment. We went to The Old Siam and indeed they are very good.

We decided to try mommy Thai after looking for an authentic Thai place it’s tucked away down a small side street it’s quite small inside but cosy so probably not the best if your a large party we went for lunch the food was amazing it was just like I was back in Thailand you can see the chef cooking in the back with his wok everything cooked fresh for you it was really that good and when I got the bill I would of easily paid twice as much for food of that quality this place is definitely worth a visit

Good Thai food at an affordable prices Solo work trip On a rainy Monday eve so was checking out Tripadvisor for places to eat and stumbled across this placeD It’s very small inside maybe 15-18 seats , twinkly lights cosy feel. They now don’t have a license but allow you to bring your own beer but then charge £2 per can/bottle corkage I wasn’t sure what to get as I love Thai food . But opted for chicken green Thai curry with spicy shrimp crackers. Shrimp crackers was a huge portion! Green curry was nice , good bit of crunch from veg and chicken wasn’t chewy or anything. Served with rice all for about £14 I was disappointed that they don’t do mango sticky rice pudding as I had seen it on another review and really wanted it. Don’t think they do any puddings but I was so full anyway! Would it return? Yes. To try the noodles

My favourite Thai experience, the restaurant it's self is very small but tidy and clean. The food is absolutely amazing, I've honestly never had better Thai food anywhere else, if I'm in York I'm getting either lunch or dinner from here! Wholeheartedly recommend.

We looked in the window and thought it looked small and dingy but decided to give it a whirl. So glad we did: the service was quick, the food so, so tasty, and value for money. Staff friendly. There are other "better looking" Thai restaurants in York, but I can't imagine they could be any better for tasty food. Loved it.

This is a little gem hidden on a side street that is worth searching for. The lunch special is truly special and the service was great even during a super busy time.

Me and my partner often come to York, and always choose to call in and have a meal at Mommy Thai. Personally, it’s the best Thai in York. It’s incredibly affordable food made with great, fresh produce. The same waiter has been serving us for 3 years now and he’s very pleasant. The restaurant itself is very small, only proving around 7 tables. With this said, it does get busy! My favourite dishes include the Panang, yellow curry and pad Thai. Thank you so much for always providing a cosy and clean space to enjoy some authentic Thai food. Definitely one to try!

Mommy Thai is perfect for takeaways and to eat in, and I've literally never had a bad experience in all the years I've been enjoying their amazing authentic Thai food. The restaurant has such a cozy, personal vibe, and I can't recommend the pandan milk tea enough <3

Visiting York for my birthday weekend..when first entering this little place I was put off by how small it was…(did suggest to my partner we should go somewhere else) What a mistake that would of been….What’s the saying..great things come in small packages!!! The food was absolutely amazing…freshly cooked whilst you wait (didn’t take long) waiter was constantly checking everyone had what they wanted….this place is a gem 💎 100% recommended…Thank you for a beautiful meal ❤️

Absolutely terrible. It was like eating a bowl of sugar. I sent it back once. They brought it out with loads of sugar still. The waiter said that they haven't had any complaints before and that one of my dishes (tom kha Gai) was like that. 4 weeks ago I was in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Would avoid.

What a great surprise. This is a small little Thai place off the main tourists streets, and it's fantastic. I have had Pad Thai all over the world (but not in Thailand :-). This was the best I have had.

I have visited mommy Thai about half a dozen times in the past year, each time with my family. We have been mostly lunch times as there is a great offer on for main, starter and drink. The choice is excellent, everything is made fresh, and the food tastes amazing. It is only a very small restaurant, I think it seats around 16 people. It accepts walk ins, but is often full, so booking helps. I would 100% recommend this as one of my favourite places to eat on York, serving great authentic Thai food.

Visited Mommy Thai while visiting York for a few days from Scotland on the 3rd of July. The fact that I am sitting at home over 200 miles away and missing Mommy Thai like a loved one should say everything about how amazing the food was. Incredible food, great service. Restaurant was small but cosy and welcoming. Please open a restaurant anywhere in Scotland.....anywhere 😁.

Myself and my boyfriend are regulars at Mommy Thai. I have absolutely no faults whatsoever for the restaurant and can only praise all dishes I have tried. We come for lunch almost every week where possible and are always treat with the upmost respect and friendliness everytime. I love panang as a personal favourite and my boyfriends daring food palette encourages me to try all different things from the menu when in the restaurant each week we go. Non of the dishes fail to amaze me, and with such value for money I wouldn’t want to spend my lunch times anywhere else! I love it here, it’s amazing.

I was looking forward to eating here but unfortunately it wasn't a great experience. Me and my partner both ordered the Green curry which is one of our favourite dishes but unfortunately this is one of the worst we had. It was far too sweet, it was like eating a bowl of sugar. The waiter didn't even have the decency to ask if everything was OK with our food. If you are going to eat here then I'd definitely avoid the green curry.

Homemade, delicious dishes at very reasonable prices, set in only a small restaurant but with great street food themed atmosphere. Advise booking to get a table. Popped in for tea around 6pm on a Tuesday evening , grabbed the last 2 seats available , there were single diners couples and a family seated .., very pleasant young man gave us menus and took drinks order ... he was running around on...

I went with my girlfriend as a spur of the moment type of drop in. I can't express enough how great the service and quality of food was! She went standard, I went for a large portion and still felt exceptional value for money. The service is fast, helpful (I like spicey, however if I wasn't helped might have melted) and very friendly.
