Really good fish, we come here every time we visit London.

Visited Golden Union Fish and Chips and had an overall decent experience. The atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming, which made for an enjoyable dining environment. The fish was cooked well and had a nice, crispy batter, while the chips were hot and fresh. The King Prawn was spot on. However, I did feel that the prices were a bit steep for what you get. It’s a solid choice if you’re craving fish and chips, but be prepared to spend a bit more than you might at other places. Overall, it was okay, I would recommend and defiling return

Great place, but queues can become 30+ minutes long if you want to dine in. Only preferable in quiet times or you have a lot of free time and don't mind standing to wait.

We were looking for a place for traditional fish and chips in London and we hit the spot. The cozy and authentic atmosphere of the establishment, friendly service and great food, while the portion of our order would have served two people. We definitely recommend!

Cod potato chips are delicious. The best fish I've ever eaten. I wonder if the atmosphere is that important when eating fried fish, but the interior was clean and trendy. There was a music box, and I liked it because it also had Korean songs.

There also a wait to be able to eat, small room. Decent fish and chips but could be improved...

First of all, a lot of people come. And the fish and chips are really delicious. I want to eat kimchi. And the quantity is quite large.

This is a good fish and chip place. Seating area is simple but that’s kind of what you want from a chippie. Staff are helpful and the food is good. I had also had a latte which was so so but I should have gone for a tea. Mushy peas were good as often places skimp on those, but a bit pricey

The food is nice but no air vents in a fish and chip restaurant. Your clothes will have the smell afterwards! Also on the expensive side for a cod fish we paid 17 pounds

A very famous fish and chips restaurant in central london. A very thin layer of batter and the fish is fresh. In terms of size, its not big for the fish, and not a very generous amount of chips as well, given chips is very cheap stuff. However their tartare sauce is actually quite nice. Fish and chips cost 17.95 + service charge is quite expensive. Given the portion is not big. Probably wouldnt visit again as nothing special and too expensive for a fish.

Super friendly and efficient staff. Would rate 5 stars if it wasn't for the bland food. Salt must be added before frying the fish, adding it afterwards makes nothing

Original fish & chips, very good and variety of fish, there is something for everyone. Tables a little close and a little smell of fried food on the clothes when leaving 🤥 but it's worth the detour anyway.

Too many people, so at first we didn't have a table for 6, but enough people left for us to eat together before we even got served. The dishes are MASSIVE. You eat a lot for not much, and it's really good. Also, one other thing that was delicious is their tartar sauce. I tasted French ones that were less good than this one. And the French literally invented this sauce.

Come 2019, we tried again this year and we are still just as satisfied!! The dishes are fresh and delicious and the welcome is warm. Thank you to the staff for your welcome and in particular to the waitress who speaks French and who accompanied us throughout our meal.

Very good fish and chips Haddock has more flavor than cod. Service a little long but very pleasant

Saw the place on a list of best fish & chips joints in London and it didn't disappoint. Fish was fresh and the chips were good. Wife had Haddock and I had Cod. The haddock is better but definitely denser and more filling. Cod portion was the perfect size. I may suggest the fish bites if you're interested in a higher batter-to-fish ratio. Don't skip the curry sauce. It's the underground star of the show. Gives the chips the flavor they need since they're only fried once.

Excellent fish and chips! The food is excellent and well served, and the welcome is top notch. One of the waitresses is French, and she is LOVE! Infinitely kind and always with a smile on his face. My third time coming here and was quite disappointed. I’m not sure if it was because we came close to closing but the food just didn’t hit the same way. I ordered the plant based fish and chips and the fish itself was not warm and felt unseasoned. Similar the chips lacked depth of seasoning. Service was okay but if you choose to go recommend going earlier in the day. Love this concept and the atmosphere though as a vegetarian!

The staff was very welcoming and truly enjoy their work. Aurora, Betty and Maria have excellent service. The fish was very fresh and the chips amazing, The portion was very generous. We will be back.

An excellent meal at Golden Union! The welcome was particularly warm thanks to Aurore our French waitress. She took the time to explain the menu and the different types of fish to us, with a lot of patience. Always smiling and providing very good advice, she made our experience even more pleasant. Great experience, the food was really good. About the waiters, special thanks to the french girl, with « salt » written on her t-shirt, she was really kind and helped me with my problem of water.

I didn’t take photo but i could say it’s typical fish and chips (not bad) and i waited long queue for this (25-30mins) . Without queue it can work.

The two of us spontaneously ate there in the afternoon. Were placed quickly and our order was taken. Service was friendly and quick. Food tasted good. The only negative point is the service fee, which you have to pay but is not pointed out in advance but only appears on the invoice.

I went for dinner, it wasn't crowded, I didn't wait in line, the fish was a little oily, the potatoes and especially the sauce were very nice. I drank ale. I paid GBP 26.88 including service.

The fish was okay, but monotonous, and the fries were very weak. They added a service fee of over £5 to the bill which was about £42. The older waitress was very nice, but the younger one was not. She looked like she worked there as a punishment. You can definitely eat somewhere else similar and cheaper.

Do not go with more than 4 people, they will have you waiting forever and you will see the people who have arrived later than you pass by and you will continue waiting.

Food was not great at all i had to go and get someone to take my order even to pay I had to find someone when the bill came service charge was added without notifying me about it when confronted all she side is you already paid and thats not her problem this place is a scam will not go back.

Looking for a fish & chips in the Oxford Circus area, we found "Golden Union" in a small street. Cozy atmosphere with much appreciated details. Menu with various proposals: from classic to vegan. Very good dishes, with a crispy frying batter at the right point. Small aside for the onion rings: super generous portion with really good sizeable onion rings. As regards the price, I would say similar to the proposal of the city of London and the quality of the products. Super recommended.

Its signature dish is of course delightful. Waitress were a bit impolite and lack of decent manner.

Excellent place to enjoy a classic fish n chips! The atmosphere is very pleasant, the waiters are courteous and helpful, don't hesitate to ask for advice according to your tastes! Depending on the period and the weather, there may be a bit of a wait before getting a free table, but nothing insurmountable!

I had dinner here before a show a few weeks ago. I was visiting from overseas and craving fish ‘n chips. The location was close to my hotel and nearby the theatre, not too far from a major street. I was a solo diner and it was quite busy. I didn’t have to wait for a table. The service was quick and staff were super nice. I got the haddock. Large portions and the tartare sauce was amazing!!! It’s not like other places. I wish I order an extra cup.

Very nice service. I was struggling with what to order, and the cashier was extremely nice and patient while helping me to choose. They even gave me some of their homemade dip sauce to try.

A fish and chips sit-down cafe which serves alcohol, what could be better?

After a few years I was in this restaurant for the second time and again I was not disappointed. The food was really tasty and freshly prepared, just as I remembered. The service was okay, even if I was perhaps expecting a little more - perhaps typically high standards as a German guest. The ambience was definitely appealing and created a relaxed atmosphere. All in all, definitely a recommendation and I would like to come back here on my next trip to London.

£16 for 3 sausage rolls and the lady at the counter couldn't even be bothered to put The sausage inside the roll

This is my first time to visit this restaurant, and I am really so amazed by everything starting from the friendly and nice lady “AURORE” who welcomed me giving an impression like I am at my home not a restaurant, she is really super nice. I asked AURORE to suggest the most popular dish and she gave me 3 options then I went with COD & CHIPS which is like chunky and tender fillet fish with fries and sauce, it was so delicious and light. The atmosphere in restaurant is so cool and my order was ready within 5 minutes. I would definitely come again. Thanks AURORE for making my day by providing such great service. Also, thanks to cooking team, my plate was excellent.

The food is good but the manager is very unpleasant and does not hesitate to put his colleague in her place in front of the customers...it's very awkward

I had cod and it was really delicious. The party left 1/3 of it feeling greasy, but it seems to be Sabasa. I ate it all. And be kind.

Fresh cuisine and very pleasant service but it's greasy! Of course, fish and chips definitely are, but we both had trouble digesting them.

This is a fish and chips specialty store. Anyway, the fish and chips were bigger than I expected and didn't have a fishy smell, so they were delicious.

My favorite fish and chips in London, with an excellent location, amazing ambience and really good prices for the amount you get. The fish piece is HUGE. Easy enough to fill up 2 persons. The batter is perfectly crispy and flaky. I love that the fish comes with no skin. My favorites are the cod and pollock. Jumbo fried shrimp were awesome too. I love the curry sauce as a side. Note that takeout, as with many London spots, is cheaper by £4-5. Overall, a must visit in central London. PS: cool addition is the free jukebox in the spot.

Nothing to say about our stay in London, we had to come and eat at the Golden Union. Everything is top notch, a slight wait to be seated (which is understandable given the quality of the fish & chips). The person who set us up (who also spoke French) was able to inform us and we really enjoyed the fish & chips we had.

The place is clean and professional but they charge you £1 for each pot of mayonnaise and tomato ketchup. The food is standard. I feel like people big it up because they’re used to really bland and low quality fish and chips. This is absolutely normal fish n chips, and not above and beyond….

Fantastic vegan fish and chips! The “fish” could be spiced more, but fries and the tatar sauce were divine ❤️ the nonalcoholic lager was the best I’ve had so far. I wish they had vegan ice cream or milkshakes for dessert 😢 Aurora was an absolute angel, such helpful and kind person

This fish and chips place near Oxford Street is average, with a minimum order of £10 per person. They also add a 12.5% service charge for dine-in, which feels unnecessary. Service charges should be optional, especially since food and labor costs in the UK are already high, unlike in the US where servers depend on tips due to lower wages.

Very rude staff the bold guy. I asked for salt and pepper on the chips, he then turned around laughing at us with his colleague.

This place uses peanut oil, and it doesn’t have any meals that would be suitable for people with nut allergies. Very disappointed.

Probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Curry sauce was out of this world and the pies are homemade.

My cod had cod worms in it, unfortunately. The service was great, took the food away immediately and offered to remake or refund it. But the concern of getting a parasite was too much for me to want to try again, so I stuck to chips.

The place is really small and suffocated, there is no ventilation and you leave with your clothes and hair smelling of terrible frying😣 Regarding the food - average minus, we took cod fish and chips which were completely bland. There are much better places.

Stopped by here for dinner on a Sunday during my trip to London. We kept seeing fish and chips on restaurant menus and felt it was a must while in the city. We found this place online as we were having drinks in SOHO. We made a good choice. When you walk in, it's there take away area. Continue to the back and you will be seated by their staff. I ordered the "Old Jamaica Ginger Beer" it was really good. Something I hadn't tried before and it was worth it. I ordered the Haddock & Chips. honey had the Scampi & Chips. The Haddock was really fresh, fried with a thin batter and crispy and less flaky. Paired with the tater sauce it was really good. I enjoyed the scampi too. It was battered just right and if I return, I will definitely order that. They have a juke box, but the selection of Beyonce music made the restaurant a vibe. Overall a great place for a quick bite of you're in the SOHO area.

Loved my food here! My partner and I shared the Cod Fish and Chips. The portion is very generous, unfortunately I only remembered to take a picture halfway.😅 The fish was cooked beautifully, very tender and with the perfect ratio of batter to fish. And I was glad to get a good amount of protein (despite sharing)! The fries were also really good, not too oily and the potato tasted great. Our server, Betty, was amazing! She was attentive throughout our meal, patiently explaining the different types of fish on the menu, which really helped us make our choice. When we spilled some water and used our napkin to clean it up, she quickly brought us a fresh one without us even asking. Betty checked in on us just the right amount to ensure we were comfortable, without being intrusive. Her friendly and professional demeanor truly enhanced our dining experience. Thank you, Betty!

The fish is definitely the star of the show! Come here to Golden Union! This is definitely a busy location. I was fortunate to come here just before it was peak dinner time and I did see a lot of people waiting. If you look to come here at usually meal times, be ready for a wait! What Is great about this establishment is that they have many options for your fish in case you are craving something in particular. With it being my first time here, I was looking to try either the Haddock or Cod, and decided on the Haddock. Once I received my fish and chips, I was ready to eat and wow the fish was so good and well fried. I tasted how good the fried batter was while all the flavor of the fish was still inside! I could eat this fried fish all day! The batter had the flakiness to it which added a nice texture. As for the chips (fries), I will say that they were average and nothing too special. However, keep that appetite for the fish! Make sure you finish that! Service itself was pretty fast and prompt. They definitely look to get your food quickly so you can enjoy your meal so they can accommodate as many people as possible.

Ordered Cod and Chips with a side of Coleslaw. The fish is unfortunately only crispy on the both sides and quite mushy on the center part. I think that the cod was cooked and left on the pass quite some time. The chips, tartare sauce and coleslaw were spot on. Their service is marvellous quite enthusiastic.
