overall just very average i tried convict - ok. portion size small for the price point. rating is 3 due to the rip off pancake for 18gbp. the pancake is a total disaapointment - pancake itself is way below average, flavour all over the place, kind of a leftover ingredients lets put it all together and throw in some fancy names menu item.

Hands down, one of my favourite brunch spots in London! The weekly pancakes are beautiful and so filling—you’ll definitely leave satisfied. The Sweet Maria is also one of my favourites.

The food is delicious, but the staff could use some common sense. Asked for scrambled eggs, was told they don’t do them, even though I’ve had them here before. When I pointed to another table with scrambled eggs, the waitress mockingly said “oh you mean folded eggs.” Unnecessarily pretentious.

Love especially their sweetcorn fritas, but everything is great on the menu, will have to wait in a queue but usually goes down quickly

The fish sando was perfectly flakey and crispy and the sauce was great. Love that they experiment with flavours but the banana bread was sadly disappointing as it tasted like plain bread with a sickly sweet tahini. £24 was also quite expensive for just 2 items.

The Convict and the Lauren Smoothie were absolutely delicious!

I had the pancake special and it was literally glorious. Everyone was really friendly despite it being quite hectic. Coffee was great. I'd absolutely coming back to try the savoury menu 🤍

We were there for Sunday breakfast and it was so delicious. I perefered filter coffee and it was so nice. One thing I can say, the prices are little bit high. Otherwise, the staff are so kind and atmosphere is very nice. Last thing, there is always a queue. :)

I recently popped there for a quick lunch before meeting some friends. The place looks nice with seatings both inside and outside. There is also a counter where you can buy pastries to take away. I liked that the waitress took time to explain the menu in detail to the elderly couple seated next to me. I had the Convict dish. A beautiful thing. The patty was perfectly cooked, tasty, and juicy. I also had a flat white, the milk was sadly too hot and "killed" the coffee taste, certainly a mistake for a reputable specialty coffee shop. I will go back with pleasure. A good place to try if you are in the area.

I love this little cafe. I was somewhat sceptical, as it seems it could be one of these pretentious hipster places that is frequented by social media influencers and such crowd where food is beautiful and very instagrammable, but completely soulless and flavourless, and as a chef I try to avoid these places like a plague 😅 but Milk is something different. Everything I’ve eaten in Milk is truly delicious and has tons and tons of flavour and texture, moreover the service is top notch, super friendly and kind and patient and they don’t make you feel rushed, no matter how busy they get. The shokupan fish sando is truly epic, ticks all the boxes of a great sandwich. I would recommend going on weekdays and during ‘off-peak’ times to get the most nicest and calmest experience and avoid the quays. They also do some pretty legit pastries in their new bakery Milk Run not too far from the main shop. Only minus I would say is that prices are bit on the steep side for brekkie, but that’s the world we live in innit 💁🏼‍♀️

Male server was really rude. Asked him politely to turn the music down and he said “no we can’t do that” very rudely and then the really kind female waitress said of course and turned it down immediately. Was really excited to try this place but disappointed :(

100% a pleasant experience to have. Good coffee, creative food, always surprises my eye with weekend special. Service is warm and friendly. I enjoy the food so much and I will always mention this place whenever friends want to explore different brunch spots.

Quick queue of 10 minutes on a Saturday around 1pm! The buckwheat pancakes were a decadent ensemble and highly recommend. We split with the fish sando (impressed with the amount of fish) and took a burnt butter halva banana bread home (one of the best we’ve had)!

food was lovely and this would have been a 6/5 rating however i was served off, curdled milk in my coffee which unfortunately was noticed too late and as a result gave myself and my partner food poisoning

A go-to brunch spot; definitely worth the hype! The staff were a bit inattentive, but it was a busy weekend brunch. All items ordered were well prepared and tasty; the brown butter hollandaise is divine. Coffee was good too, just a bit pricey.

Food was amazing, the fish sandwhich was honestly one of the best sandwiches i have ever had and that is no exaggeration. Wonderful flavours and filled me up to the brim. The banana bread is a MUST try also. The service was friendly and prompt. Great buzz in this place with lots of people enjoying a good time, I'll be back soon.

I had the most amazing granola. It was a seasonal one with pear. Really delicious and more creative than the usual granola dishes in other places! Service was good and setting is really nice being able to sit outside on the benches

I’m writing this review with a huge disappointment I used to really like this place the food was really good back when the betty dish was with spinach! Now it’s so taste less with ridiculous amount of butter my mom had the mushroom egg dish it’s like they used 100g of butter for this dish alone halloumi was 1% halloumi 99% oil 👎🏻 how ever there cookie was 10/10

Long queues but so worth the wait! Delicious brunch options with the most incredible flavours. Not your ordinary brunch! Highly recommend the fish sando and sweetcorn fritters!

A bit slow to serve, food good, drinks good but smallish coffees.

I’ve been here a couple of times and I don’t get the hype and long queues. Food is very average, coffee was just terrible, quite expensive and very slow service.

The food and coffee at Milk is always good. Our favourites are Moxon’s toast and chorizo hash browns.

My partner introduced me here. She said the banana bread was excellent. When I tried it, it didn't disappoint. It was very rich and delectable.

Burnt black toast is the standard I was told by a staff member when my order arrived from their brunch selection. And a staff member tried to convince this the way it was made. I had to say it was carcinogenic which she ignored and she talked over me and kept telling me about the sauce etc trying to convince me to keep the meal. Then I had to say very directly to her to get my point across, that I have a toddler and I would not serve her blackened toast. Finally, she agreed to change the order. It was really unacceptable. I wouldn't come back. I felt like I was being gaslit. Trendy place and location helps with the foot fall. But hard pass for me.

I love this place, great selection of food with great coffee and sweets to compliment, the staff is lovely and it's great for kids as well, highly recommend

Having asked about the gluten free options and being offered the cornbread as an alternative, I assumed that it would be a savoury alternative to sourdough. It was like cake, inedible! The coffee was lukewarm at best, don’t really understand the hype around this place.

Lovely spot but a bit mean charging £2.20 for an extra piece of toast, and £9 for scrambled eggs for a child + 12.5% service.

Food was ok but 5 middle aged women were plonked on my table without even asking me. It’s a table for 6z. Not happy. Seem not to be concerned with making money not customers

I had the pleasure of going to Milk Cafe Bedford Hill. The staff are lovely sand their chef is super creative. The setting is very nice and with perfect weather sitting on the terrace was ideal. I had Gochugaru eggs, iced latte and an almond croissant. The eggs were DELICIOUS and inspired me to aim to return to try all of the other dishes 😋 The almond croissant was equally inspirational, YUM. The iced latte not so much. Very little ice and it had that sour taste that I encounter from time to time and always wonder what makes it sour. I read it’s bcz the espresso might not be packed tight enough and therefore not enough water flows through…… I’m no Coffee expert but I know when a coffee falls flat. I noticed a lot of people drinking a small glass of some coffee drink that I think had some sweetener and cream in it. I heard positive reviews m, I’m not sure it was on the menu. I’ll ask next time. Thanks Milk, it was a pleasure! PS next time I’m trying that corn bread!

Great brunch place in Balham, very busy, be prepared to queue for eat in especially at weekends.

I love their coffee, vibe and homemade condiments you can buy. My first time trying their food and such a disappointment 😥 the Millie had overpowering and contradictory flavours - super strong chutney, then chilli, plus intense sweet pickled beets, you could not taste the smashed avocado which should be the hero of the dish.

I don’t leave many reviews but I was overwhelmed with the service at Milk when I visited with my husband and our 1 year old and 4 year old on Saturday morning. The staff were unbelievable. So warm and friendly, could not do more for us. They were so welcoming to us and our children. We arrived around 10.30am and after only 5 minutes, were seated on a nice table in the sunshine. By 11am, the queue was huge so I’d recommend arriving a bit earlier if you don’t want to wait. The service was just amazing. All staff were so kind and smiley and just made the brunch such a lovely experience. We ordered coffees and the granola and sweet corn fritters (pictured). Coffee and food were 10/10. My 1 year old knocked over half my iced coffee and a really lovely lady that worked there (Rachael) just couldn’t be more helpful, providing us with napkins and even brought me a brand new coffee. I honestly couldn’t believe it. The staff were incredible. 100% recommend!!! Thank you staff at Milk. There aren’t many like you!

What a little gem of a place, indoor and outdoor seating a great choice of menu and drinks. Cosy and relaxing, food was beautiful and the Anzac biscuit’s are a must to try 🥰 From the Young Betty Brekki to the Fish Sandu the Hash browns to the flat whites …spoilt for choice, all so delicious, can’t wait to go back❤️

The food was delicious, but the coffee looked terrible and tasted very stronggg. But that's not it. The service is very strange and uncomfortable. It feels like you are not welcome when you come to this place. The waitress did not listen to my order and just left thinking that I only ordered coffee, but I wanted to add food as well. Very strange behavior and uncomfortable vibe. Would not come back

Milk is a bit of a Balham institution. Really good, inventive brunch food with a big focus on coffee (the origin of the days espresso blend is placed in front of every customer). Weekends mean queues down Hildreth Street for a table. For me, one of the best brunch spots in the whole of London.

Lovely breakfast and coffee. I really enjoyed breakfast on my own on Saturday morning. Its a busy place, but the atmosphere and food is fantastic.

What a perfect spot for breakfast or brunch in London. Super unique and delicious plates thier menu was offering. We have try the banana bread with Tahinia and Hallomi both were so so good and I love it. The place is very crowded but it goes fast. The staff were so so nice ❤️ Thier coffe also was so good. Must must visit place in London ❤️

Sunday brunch at 10am, we only had a 20 min wait (it is much quicker to be seated if you're just two people). Had the smoked salmon on toast which was tasty, and tried the banana bread. Banana bread was insanely good, would go back just for that. Wanted to try to pancakes but it looked a lot for 10am on a Sunday so next time! A plus is that they support 🍉

Food OK, quite pricey. One of our party has an aversion to butter and asked if muffin was buttered (the waitress didn’t know). We asked to ensure it was not buttered. The muffin came out buttered. Asked to switch the muffin on the dish to an alternative (eg bread) and was told that was impossible. Waitress suggested a solution to rebuild the dish with individual items at a higher cost. Would suggest being less rigid around your service, especially if your waitress has made a mistake. Milk did comp the individuals coffee and side but they still went hungry and we ended up in the greggs round the corner.

Somehow extremely popular. You will almost certainly have to queue for a table. The food was fine but extremely expensive for what it is. Coffee was average but not worth nearly £4 for a cup of filter. We were not given glasses for water until we asked. When these were provided, one was dirty. The cutlery on the table was also dirty.

My friend and I went there today because we wanted to try the famous pancakes! We arrived around 12:30 and had to queue for 40 minutes aprox. When we finally got the table, the waitress said that the pancakes were run out. We were surprised takinng into account that those are only available during weekends, and that wasn't so late. We ended up having the fish sando and the banana bread. Both were amazing! The place is quite small and noisy. Unfortunately, it was a bit rainy, so some of the tables outside were empty. We will need to go back to try the pancakes!

It was one of the best coffees I have ever had in my life, it was the best breakfast I have ever had in my life. The staff are friendly and very polite. Everything was great, I hope I can go again 🫶🏻

Fantastic! A great place to eat at, super friendly staff, tasty food, a real asset to Balham. We were sat adjacent to the kitchen so could see the food being freshly prepared which is always fun. Slightly pricey but can be expected for this area and the type of food. Would recommend! Though it can get busy so make sure to get there just before Lunch time.

You can't book so queuing is to be expected but definitely worth it for the convict! Best brunch in Balham and the parmesan hashbrowns are incredible. Service has always been brilliant (I've been a few times now) and the atmosphere is great. Definitely sit outside on the rare occasion it's sunny!

This place was great for brunch. The Millie (smashed avocado on toast) was excellent when paired with the Billie (OJ, strawberry and ginger) Defo coming back here again.

Rarely post a review but this place is beyond expectation, especially the staffs. Super great service, best staffs ever! friendly and caring. Food and coffee are great. Definitely recommend this perfect brunch spot. 🙂😉

Exceptional savoury food with lots of flavour served quickly (after queuing for the table!) The flat white was extracted well, but was unironically a bit milky. The pancake had many interesting and exciting flavours, but was unfortunately overshadowed with how sweet it was. If it had been a little less sweet I think the flavours would have come through and made for an excellent dish. The biggest put off was with how loud the music was, which was pounding drum and bass. Unsure who wants to hear this on a Sunday morning, and I wonder whether it's played to encourage customer turnover. Some excellent dishes and coffee, but let down by the atmosphere. I'd go again, but wouldn't queue for it! (And maybe pick a warmer day and sit outside!)

Coffee was average, pastries were ok. A bit pricey for the quality of the items. We were told to leave the table after less than 10 minutes of sitting there. I understand that the premises was busy at that time, however the member of staff was very rude to us. Really poor customer service. I don’t usually leave bad reviews but at this instance I had to. This cafe is definitely overhyped by social media. I honestly think food is the same as every cafe and slightly smaller portions. But the cafe was very lively even during the weekday. It has indoor and outdoor seating options. I wouldn’t visit this cafe on purpose but I guess I would come if I was nearby. Also not equipped to be a laptop cafe as they only have 1 plug in the whole of cafe!

Came in for a birthday breakfast. Food was so good. Servers were lovely and attentive. Only thing is there isn’t much vibe and it was really cold inside but I hope to come back in the summer.

Good food here. The hash browns were nice but the chorizo mayo was suuuuuper fishy which was a shame. I had some great pancakes with mochi, peanut butter chantilly and dragon fruit. Really good value for money. Food was just over £20 each with a main, side and a coffee. I’d probably stick to the normal menu if I went back. There is always a GIANT queue outside so get there early. The queue moves pretty quickly but expect a 30 min wait.

An unfriendly welcome from staff. I arrived yesterday at 7.56 and was told to wait in the cold outside as they opened at 8.00. We enjoyed a good breakfast at Brick wood next door.

Good brunch, overly busy but the food and dishes are above average. The specials can be experimental (I like that the chefs have that freedom) but the pancake special we got had components that were like biting into a sweetener tablet. Not well balanced and quite overwhelming. The service is great and the convict is a good breakfast. Nice morning out, nothing to write home about. They should also move the queue to down the road, we just had a line people gawping at us eating outside and it was quite uncomfortable. They could easily do the end of the queue by the tree and have the queue go a more well thought out route.

Exceptional breakfast, very nice staff, nice place, great coffee. Definitely worth a recommendation.

One of the best brunches in London, cozy and aesthetic. We really enjoyed the food we had as well as the coffee. Staffs there were incredibly friendly and introduced us their special hash brown, added extra positive vibe of the place. Definitely will go back for their banana bread which we didn’t order.

First in at 8am, but they weren’t sure if they were open yet….. Seen all the great reviews, but a disappointing first visit. First off, the latte was barely warm - was told this is the way they serve them, asked for it to be hot, 2nd attempt was a little better, but still warm. Really tasty coffee though. Had the corn fritters with halloumi and avocado, with 2x added poached eggs. It’s quite a wet dish, so just means that everything gets really mushy, fast. Also served in a metal dish rather than a plate, so the wet parchment paper at the bottom is pretty hard to eat off. Tasty, but just needs served on a plate with the sauce in a bowl on the side so that it doesn’t immediately all go soggy. Also tried the corn bread - it’s fine. Nice honey on the side. All came to just under £28. Expensive, but fine if the presentation was better and the restaurant wasn’t freezing cold. That probably didn’t help their lukewarm coffee service.

They only have one main dish which is vegan and it's a little disappointing in flavour. However, our server, Libby, was very helpful and suggested some side dishes (I went for pumpkin, mushrooms and hash browns) which were really delicious. She also added a sauce - amazingly tasty. Would be great to have more vegan options,l as well as label vegan items more clearly and improve the taste of the vegan main dish.

The mains were nice but honestly, they look better than they taste. The sides, not worth it at all. The cheese on the hash browns adds no value other than it looks nice. The roasted pumpkin was inedible- dry, wrong texture, wrong spices. Tiny pots of overpriced tea. Very cold inside as the doors were always open.

If you really want to try something new and delicious this is the place 👌👌

I have eaten at Milk several times and it is always amazing, well worth the queue. We tried most items in the menu and the food is delicious. Hash browns are must, and the baked eggs they do Mon-Fri are my favorite. The staff is also extremely nice and attentive.

Brilliant food and service! The fish sando was delicous. Its the catch of the day, so it can change, but the sea bream was cripsy without being oily and well-seasoned. The french toast has sadly been replaced by the sticky toffee loaf, but it was so soft and delicous that all is forgiven. The billie smoothie was refeshing and a generous serving (i had drank some b4 taking the picture) Will definitely come back.

The food is delicious although a little over priced for what you get. Make sure you're not too hungry when you go as it's a popular spot and there can be long queues at the weekend.

One of the more innovative brunch menus in London, plus a lovely shop section with great products. I highly recommend the Baked Eggs and the Yuzu cake.

The food was really tasty, but unfortunately a lot of struggles seemed to transpire whilst we were there. Our coffee order "went missing" and it took 30-40 minutes before we all got them, after which my lactose intolerant friend was told they may have given her the wrong coffee. We also got charged for the wrong order and had to wait to repay, but that isn't really an issue. It was mostly the oddly long wait for coffee which was then mixed up... It was fairly busy. Maybe one day we'll try again when it's less so.
