A great venue for an afternoon tea. Beautiful outdoor terrace with nice flowers and decoration. But my first dinner experience there was a real disappointment. Not to be renewed. Service particularly slow, almost asleep; I had to chase them a couple of times in the rear as there wasn't even anybody around! Really basic pub menu, with disappointing dishes, but priced as a top-of-the-range restaurant. £60 for 2 glasses of Champagne, isn't it outrageous?! Restaurant two third empty as well, for a reason I guess...

Having looked at places on the internet re afternoon tea, I decided the Orangery looked and seemed the best place to choose for our 59th anniversary. We will come again for our 60th anniversery. I was so excited that we were able to sit outside surrounded by greenery. Next time we would like to stay the night. I would recomend the Orangery to anyone.

The garden is lovely and we sat there. However at 6 pm on a Monday, we were the only ones and the service was extremely slow and poor. My husband's second order of beer never arrived and nobody came to ask whether we needed anything else. The two service people were indoors the whole time chatting away.

We are visiting London with our 15-year-old granddaughter and wanted to treat her to a special afternoon tea, as it was on her bucket list. We were willing to pay 40£ per person for the experience, but we were pretty disappointed. Pros: The setting is lovely! We had a window seat overlooking the garden. We enjoyed the pretty and tastefully decorated room with colorful framed embroidery pieces in the walls. We appreciated the tea assortment and all found a tea flavor to our liking. The tiered trays of food came quickly and the scones were hot and delicious. Cons: The sandwiches were awful -- skimpy on the filling, bland in flavor, and served on bread and rolls that were dry as dust. Instead of clotted cream, we had butter for the scones. Not terrible, but pretty disappointing for an English tea. The desserts were a mixed bag. The lemon meringue tart and layered chocolate cake were tasty, but the little bun was inedible and the macaron was flavorless. Service was mediocre and our server was cool and unaccommodating. We were not allowed to try a different tea unless we paid for a new pot. It seems petty to deny a few cents' worth of tea leaves to a customer who is dropping 40£ on an already overpriced meal.

Food was totally overpriced for what we got. The lobster Caesar was alright, crudites came out with a different dip advertised, steak came out over cooked and bloody, service was slow, replacement burger came out with soggy fries … not good enough really for those prices. It’s a shame because we’re huge fans of the Fullerton hotels but this one fell really flat.

The positive, a lovely room overlooking the gardens, a pleasant welcome, beautiful decor and china. The warm scones with clotted cream and preserves were delicious however the rest of the afternoon tea was distinctly underwhelming. The negative, 4 thin finger sandwiches with stingy fillings no offer to replenish, lacklustre tiny cakes selection. The worst thing, having to pay an additional £13.50 for an extra pot of tea. Disappointing and quite mean on a £42 price tag for the afternoon tea experience. I’ve never been charged extra for additional tea before. This could be a lovely afternoon tea experience in a beautiful environment, maybe charge a couple of pounds more and make it a more generous experience where guests feel they’ve had a real treat.

A very beautiful place. Shame it was raining. Would be better if we could sit outdoor in the peaceful garden. Food was good, all very fresh and tasty. However, the price was £40, not £35 as clearly advertised both on Open Table and the hotel website. As an organiser for the tea, I was a little embarrassed to ask my friend to pay more than previously I told her. Please update!

I went with 4 other friends to this beautiful hotel for afternoon tea. Lovely dining room and garden. Compared with other venues the sandwiches were very run of the mill and there was no replenishment unlike you get at other venues. Extra tea was at a cost as were speciality teas at an extra £2.50. It all seemed a bit mean. A glass of champagne was £13 and not even a very full glass. All in all we had a nice time but the tea was a little disappointing

The venue was delightful for a very lovely afternoon tea. Excellent choice of sandwiches and other savories, along with some very pretty and tasty cakes and fresh warm scones. Excellent value for the money compared to many other afternoons teas we have been to in London, although these have often been themed. Great location about 10 mins walk from the Kensington museums. The garden was a lovely setting for our afternoon tea, and the specialist teas we selected were also very good. However, our tea arrived about twenty five minutes before our sandwiches, scones and pastries. By that time our tea was cold. The sandwich bread was also cold and a little hard and dry and the fillings unimaginative. The scones and jam were warm and tasty and the pastries were fine. It’s a pity that the service was so slow and that we didn’t receive our tea and the accompanying food at the same time. It would have greatly improved our overall experience.

Went here for lunch, it was child friendly and the good was very good. I've knocked off a mark for the service which was a little slow to kick off and the fact that it was £10 for a small average glass of wine but I guess that's central London for you, the delicious club sandwich was £12 go figure! I would go back and thought it was a good find amidst the hustle and bustle.

We arrived a little late for lunch and a bit early for tea so we had both! Two of us had burgers which were fairly standard and the other two had tea! As I said the burgers were ok. The tea was good, nice sandwiches, scones and cake with tea made the way you like it. The room was pretty, a bit quirky with interesting artworks around. Service was good, friendly and efficient. A cozy place on a winter's day! Come here for the afternoon tea as many of the reviews suggest. Lunch is good but not special. The real rating should be 3.5

This was my second visit to No 16. I was early so asked to sit in the lounge for a while before my meal. I expected to be asked if I wanted anything, but was left quite alone. If asked, I would have had a glass of fizz. Eventually, I had to go and find someone to see if I could go through to eat, which was done nicely. The menu is a little limited, but I found things I liked. I then asked for some water and had to wait some time before it arrived. I then had to ask for a wine list. My water glass had a chip in it which I noticed, but the staff hadn't. My foo came in good time, along with my glass of wine and I enjoyed my meal. The Caesar salad was particularly good. I was sitting next to a fairly noisy table of Lebanese people. I know their birth place as they talked of nothing else, quite loudly! At the end of the meal the bill had the automatic 12.5% service charge, even though the service had not been very good. However, the waitress did offer a free started in respect of the chipped water glass, which was the right thing to do. The location of the restaurant to the Albert Hall makes it a good choice for a pre-concert meal, but I think they could do better.

Visited Number Sixteen for an afternoon tea in September 2019, to celebrate my mum's birthday. As soon as we walked in, we received friendly service. We were shown to a table inside as unstable outside made the use of the garden impossible. However, we enjoyed it as much as we would have if we sat outside. The orangery is a very lovely and cosy place with quirky decoration all around and with its quite environment, it sets a wonderful atmosphere for afternoon tea. We ordered the one which comes with two glasses of Bellini (strawberry bellini, very refreshing). Not only the afternoon tea looked delicious, it also tasted so. The sandwiches and scones were fresh and the sweet treats were full of flavours. We will be definitely coming back.

Service and ambiance was excellent, and the view was gorgeous even in cooler, drizzly weather. I arrived earlier than my reservation and was the first diner for afternoon tea service, so was given my pick of seating. As a traveler who depends heavily on a smartphone to get around, I appreciated that there were convenient wall outlets adjacent to many tables so I could charge my phone while I ate. And as a solo traveler, I appreciated my server offering to take several photos for me and checking on me throughout the meal in a friendly but unobtrusive way. All of the finger sandwiches, bite-size desserts, and scones (superb with their clotted cream and 2 jams) were well-presented, delicious, and surprisingly filling. Earl grey tea was of excellent flavor and perfect temperature. Between the fantastic customer service, lovely table settings, absolutely beautiful garden views from the Orangery, and all of the delectable food and drink, it's truly too hard to pick just one 'best feature' at Number Sixteen.

The garden here is exquisite and peaceful, but we we sitting near a generator of some kind set behind the beautiful plants. The constant hum was awful - but the garden and long pool so lovely which offset the noise. We had mezza and a bottle of wine, both good, but the pitta bread too hard so we think pre-prepared. We finished off with coffees and I had one of the best hot chocolate drinks ever - dark and gorgeous. Apart from the generator and pitta bread, all was just lovely - admire this hotel, atmosphere and decor and certainly location! Unfortunately having arrived at 8pm items were already unavailable in the menu. There was no welcome or greeting just a launch into ‘Do you want to drinks or order?’ For a prime positioned boutique hotel that is very cleverly and attractively decorated hotel it fell short. With our preferred starter unavailable we order the aubergine tabouleh main course which when it arrived was tepid to cold and certainly reheated and the tabouleh was simple couscous with some scattered pomegranate seeds. We chose not to eat it and to pay for our drinks ( a steep £21 for a single G&T and a bottle of sparkling water) and leave. The Duty Manager listened to our complaint but I think they need to review the quality of what is offered. It could be a magical conservatory in the summer if the service and food were markedly improved.

Excellent wine list- really good choice of wines by the glass, well chosen for producers, eg Chave Rhone. £100 for two including a glass of wine, each. They took a lot of trouble to seat us in the drawing room, as the garden room was taken for a group booking. I didn’t feel welcome at all. Two starter, one main was beef sandwich, another main was two proaced eggs, 4 drinks were £130 in total. Overall, if you didn’t care about the service much, or price, then it is worth checking out this hidden garden restaurant, it is certainly beautiful. We really loved the place but the restaurant was freezing and the service was slow. The combination of the 2 was quite painful.

We booked a table for two and were not told that a birthday party of twelve would be in the same room which seats no more than a couple of dozen. It was suggested that we might prefer to eat in the garden, a good option... had it not been overcast, cool and drizzling slightly! Because of the noise from the party it was almost impossible to have a conversation. Had we been told about the party we'd have booked another date.

We went as a couple for afternoon tea on a very warm September day and enjoyed our tea. The location in South Kensington is easy to access for tourists. Service was initially very attentive but did slip toward the end. The tea and sandwiches were very good, scones were also very good but other cakes and desserts just average. The value was very good for such a beautiful setting.

Sad to say that having taken the wonderful Afternoon Tea served at the Hamyard and the Haymarket many times, our recent trip to Number Sixteen for Afternoon Tea was a complete let down. Dreadful sandwiches, stale blini, stale scones & a mucousy looking chia seed concoction, nothing nice to say at all about the food. I will not be participating there again. Possibly the Hamyard and Haymarket are busier in this respect so food is fresher. But for the fact that I was treating a friend I would have complained there and then.

The setting is really nice, lovely garden and nice table. The waiters are very pleasant, happy and kind but they don't come very often and service was slow. The real problem was the food, very expensive for what it is. For example over £18 for a fish cake which comes with nothing else on the plate except the fishcake, all the sides are extra. They don't serve water and only have very small water bottles with which you fill 1 and half glasses and are around £5. asked for some break which would not come normally and after waiting 30min to receive it we finished the meal and didn't need it anymore. Will go back there for afternoon tea as the setting is really nice, but the restaurant unfortunately is not worth a lunch.

Tucked out of the way in Kensington, this is a beautiful, uniquely stylish small hotel. My booking, by phone, was handled politely and efficiently and I received a call the day before to check I still intended to go. I'd requested to sit in the Orangery, which is a beautiful little courtyard style garden, very tranquil. The china tea service was "mythical creatures" design which we'd never seen before and the cloths were crisp and white. There wasn't the vast choice of teas you get in some afternoon tea places, but for my friend and I this didn't matter as we would have chosen Earl Grey and English Breakfast tea anyway. It was loose leaf tea and we each had a 2nd fresh pot when we asked later. The food was on a 3 tiered cake stand, a delicious assortment of beautifully home baked fancy cakes on the top, crustless finger sandwiches on the middle tea and 4 scones with two pots of jam and one pot of clotted cream on the bottom. It was all delicious. My only 2 criticisms would be that I think the sandwiches should have been cling filmed between making and serving as the bread was just a teensy bit dry on the outside and I think there should have been two of the little pots of cream.

The place was STUNNING!! I fell in love with every part of the hotel and the orangery was just perfect! But I felt the good didn't really live up to the standard of the place, hope they can develop on that and create a better afternoon tea selection.

It was not busy. There was no one else in the pretty, tranquil garden and I couldn't see anyone in the dining room (which is not definitive).

It was a fine day on 1st September and we enjoyed the charming garden. The metal chairs were uncomfortable and needed cushions. The scones were very hard - a bit stale? Overall, with a glass of champagne added, not particularly good value for money. Visitors need to notice the 12% service charge!

This review covers the Afternoon Tea this lovely hotel offers. Sitting in a beautiful garden in South Kensington, sun shining peaceful and quiet, nothing better. Unfortunately the afternoon teas on offer didn't fully match up to this hotel. Bread felt and tasted a bit stale and the fillings were poor. Scones were dry and tasteless. Overall not great value for money, but we are glad we went.

Very poor service The waitress at the bar with dyed hair when we went to order had a tremendously rude attitude, it honestly gave the impression that because she wasn't British you were simply bothering her. From what we have seen in other opinions, it has already happened to other clients. Very bad experience, I would definitely not return

The behavior of the bar woman is awful..she looks like she don't want to work at all... also she didn't explain to me that the pub is self service and the waiter is not gonna bring me the drinks...anyway the cocktails( banana old fashioned) was good.

Too much customer service for my liking. I come here on my lunch break for a quick meal. I just want to find a seat and order on the app. Annoyingly, they make me wait 5 minutes while they find a table for 1 (while there’s many available). Why can’t we just cut out the middleman and find my own seat? Also their mayonnaise sucks. No one wants vegan mayo, it’s just vegetable oil which is toxic. Get some real mayo please. Other than that this Nando’s is pretty good.
