The Holmfield Arms - Pub & Grill in Wakefield

Angela was our server today. She was really welcoming, polite and helpful. She had an inviting smile on her face whilst serving us and clearing/serving the surrounding tables.

We have been for Christmas Lunch today, while the starters were very nice the soup was lukewarm and the prawn cocktail came without sauce even though this wasn't asked for. The main meals were terrible, Rock solid vegetables, hard pastry on the pie and chips and Yorkshire pudding still frozen in the middle. The deserts were just as bad the Sundae was sour and the Christmas pudding resembled road kill, while we actually belly laughed at the state of it, I can actually say this is the worst meal we have ever had with you and we are very reluctant to come back. I've left a photo of the hilarious pudding!

Booked a last minute table for 7 people. Pub very busy but made space.

It's not great, but it passes if you are really hungry. We didn't stay at the venue just dined at lunchtime.

I had my wedding at the holmfield arm in 2018. They were amazing and we had a brilliant day. It has a good outdoor play area for the kids. Sunday dinner is gorgeous. The katsu curry is lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Great Customer service. We booked on Black Friday, great deal £75 for one night bed and breakfast, which is refundable up until the day before (check website on that) Cheaper than Premier Inn, which is £100+ non refundable (unless you choose more expensive options). The food was better than the premier inn down the road. The restaurant is very nice. Refurbished recently and they have done a good job. Only fault is that they do not have a lift so for an accessible room, you only have the bottom floor as an option.

Booked a table for family of 7 the Sunday before the new year. A really lovely pub impressed with the layout tables well speced. Good service with friendly staff. The food was very good, we will definitely go again. Large outside area kids play area lots of parking space.

Went last night had what supposed to be grilled hunters chicken wow highly disappointed. Chips cold onion rings cold and the chicken was luke warm. All of our food was cold or luke warm .

I became a regular at this establishment during a week working locally. The food was very good, the beer was good and the staff were excellent.

From a friendly welcome, first class bar service and a cheerful server the visit was flawless. Special requests with drinks were not a problem. Food was ordered and delivered to the right people in the party. The meal and deserts were presented and cooked to a higher than expected standard. Paying was effortless, with a warm thanks for our company in the venue.

We have a work outing and i jad bought gift vouchers the employees were very helpful in taking our orders even though they were busy

Just been for festive Christmas menu.saturday 14th December food was nice but we felt rushed table booked for 530 we arrived at 5 sat straight down we had out starter and meal before 6.

My 1st time at this pub came for my works Xmas party, my food was served cold and the cheesecake was that hard it was difficult to get spoon through. Was not worth the money I paid. Wouldn't visit again .

Service in the hotel is great, receptionist welcoming and helpful. Bar staff, not enough of them (5 people waiting one bar staff serving) and not well trained. Not a clue who is where in the queue even if there is only 4 people stood there!

All good ,wine overpriced for quality

We stayed at Holmfield Arms on Friday night the rooms were very clean and well presented and the reception staff were very helpful, we went round to the bar and it was very busy a couple of Christmas parties going but on we were served quite quick and the staff were very pleasant, we ordered food at 8.15 and it was with use in less than ten minutes we all enjoyed it across the table everyone was happy, with the deal we got at the hotel included breakfast which was very good. All piping hot and plenty of it ! See you in march👍

We were a large party of near 40 and the restaurant was able to accommodate this as we ordered in advance. The food all came out as near at once as possible given so many plates and staff were great. Thank you to Kevin and all the staff who helped bring out the food etc.

Decent pub grub, good service and nice location

Ellis has been a star tonight. Very busy evening and was still attentive. 10/10.

Ellis was a brilliant server, very on hand considering we were quite demanding and he was a good laugh!

Great green king pub in lovely grounds. Few times I've ate here for lunch and dinner has always been great and very reasonably priced. Can get busy but easy to book online.

Pre booked meal for the family on route to a theatre production in Wakefield City centre. Choosen as one of the party requires a gluten free choice. We received excellent service, everyone enjoyed their meal. Reasonably priced. Nice decor and outside surrounding's -would be lovely for a summer evening. Plenty of parking spaces. Would definitely call again if in the area.

5 of us went for lunch, waitress was very attentive, food was lovely. We went on a Monday lunchtime and the restaurant was very busy so I would advise booking beforehand.

Disappointing experience at Holmfield Arms. Food wasn’t great, staff seemed inexperienced, and the prices felt too high for what we got. Expected more.

The service and food was outstanding. In particular, Isabella was a lovely waitress. She had a laugh and a joke and really seemed to enjoy her work. She interacted with us in a lovely friendly manner. She is an absolute credit to the company.

I cannot say anything about the rooms as I have not stayed in them but I'm sure they are lovely. This is the second time I have frequented this establishment and it really is my new favorite place!! The staff are amazing (honestly nothing is too much) the food is lovely and the tribute acts we have seen (Neil Diamond and Elvis) were fantastic. I must give a shout out to our server Ellis as he made our evening. Thank you Ellis, you went above and beyond :) 😀

We went for Sunday lunch. The food was served very quickly, maybe within 10 minutes of ordering. The beef was extremely over cooked. The Camembert was very good though. Nice ambiance, quite modern. There was fires on, which was lovely. Nice spot

This is a lovely hotel pub in the middle of Wakefield Park. Very quiet if staying in the hotel yet only a 15 minutes walk 5 minutes taxi from the busy nightlife and city centre. We called for Sunday lunch, in the pub restaurant. Seated immediately with no wait. Lovely seat by the window overlooking the large garden and outdoor playground. Fantastic for children. Everything was table service on the day. A good selection of drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic. The service provided was excellent and the Sunday roast was beautiful. Very quick service and an overall 5* experience. Highly recommend.

Lovely food and the parks great for walks. Highly recoomended.

Had an amazing evening for my partners birthday and one staff member who really stood out with her amazing customer service skills is paige she really went above and beyond to make our evening extra special and made us feel so very welcome and comfortable. Absolutely fabulous member of staff She was 🥰

Parking is not very disabled friendly. Food was delicious. Staff were very busy handling a wedding reception there, so they were not very attentive to other diners. We didn't stay over, we just went for lunch.

We went with our extended family to this pub. As a collective there are a lot of allergies and dietary requirements which is always difficult to cater for, however these guys were excellent. Had clearly been very well trained on dealing with different allergies and were more than happy to help. The kids loved the play area and were happy to be running back and forth. The staff were friendly and brought the drinks to table so that we didn’t have to wait around for pints topping up as they could see we had a few kids with us. Location wise this is great. You can happy stroll out into Thornes Park which has gardens, duck pond, skate park and another play park.

Utterly shambolic booking experience. Tried to book on the phone but could not get anyone to answer so ended up booking on line for 10 people. Was told someone would get back to me within 24 hrs to confirm the booking but no one did. Then 2 days later I called at 9pm at night and managed to speak to someone and secure a booking on Sunday 2pm for 10. Two days later I get an email confirming Sunday 1.30pm for 10 despite booking for 2pm. Called the Holmfield arms and spoke to someone who advised the booking was for 1.30pm. I said I’d booked it for 2pm. She then rings me back to confirm 2pm. Within minutes I get an email confirming 2pm for 10 people and within less than a minute receive another email confirming the 2pm booking was cancelled. I called yet again to be assured the booking was for 2pm for 10 people. On the Sunday, the day we were going, I get an email saying I have a booking at 2pm but only for 9 people now. Beyond appalling experience. On the day it took over 2 hours to be served starters and lunch. Appreciate it was Sunday and busy but still a long wait. Food was good when it arrived but overall I don’t think we will be going to the Holmfield Arms again.

So i have only gave 3 stars instead of 5 because , I came in on the Saturday and me and my kids and my cousin ate and it was lovely food and big portions , because I was impressed , I returned today on the Sunday and I was just so disappointed I got a trio of roast Sunday dinner , and when it came it looked like a child's portion and I was left feeling hungry and disappointed it had 1 carrot 1 piece of broccoli 1 roast potatoe 1 of each meat and a Yorkshire pudding but honestly my kids eat more than the portion I was given it was just so small and like I said I was left feeling hungry and felt like I had been robbed

Intend to visit after friends had a meal

We recently stayed at the hotel and made use of the bar and restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay, the room, twin bed with level access bathroom. We travelled by train, using assisted travel, arriving at Wakefield Westgate, then a taxi to the hotel. On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome. Our room was warm, comfortable and exceptionally clean. The level access bathroom was superb, a very powerful shower, a good range of grab rails, I do think it does need one between the toilet and sink. There is a boxed unit from the floor up to the height of the sink, having no grab rail on the left there as well as the fold away toilet rail type on the right side is a bit of a struggle. Both the shower and sink have press dispensers, the shower one is filled with body and hair shampoo, the sink has liquid soap, neither are messy and always filled. A short distance to the restaurant and bar, again we received a warm and friendly welcome from the staff. Food was excellent, delicious and well presented, very reasonably priced, a good choice throughout the menu; without it being overwhelming. The portions are very generous. The restaurant can and does get busy, the team of staff are to be applauded for their attention, friendly approach, professionalism, all working as a team and no matter how busy the restaurant is the staff never seem phased, the service is of the highest standard. We had breakfast included in our 5 day stay at the hotel. A warm and cheery welcome from the breakfast host, directs you to the continental self service area, once settled at your table you can place your order from the varied breakfast menu. The choice and variety is amazing, exceptional value and delicious. There were three events in the marquee over the weekend, a birthday, a wedding and a christening. As a guest of the hotel and using the restaurant for our evening meal you would not have known there were celebrations going on, the restaurant maintains the same high standard of service. We were very pleasantly surprised that any noise from the celebrations isn’t heard within our room. In the morning the caretaker and garden staff are preparing the grounds and play area for a new day of welcoming visitors, everywhere is well maintained, again, you would not have known there was an event the night before, everything was ready for the day ahead. The team of housekeeping and cleaning staff do a magnificent job of keeping everything fresh and exceptionally clean. The pub and hotel is situated within a large wooded area and grounds, perfect for a pleasant stroll or walking the dog(s) We used Taxis for getting around, to visit Wakefield museum, the arts house and Wakefield cathedral. We also visited the Yorkshire sculpture park. We were very grateful to our taxi driver who went out of his way to accommodate us getting there and back. Thank you to all the staff at The Holmfield Arms and hotel for looking after us so well.

Asked for steak cooked medium rare came out well done. A real shame because it was great here, but really gone down hill. Been waiting one hour for a dessert. We come here quite often and usually really enjoy it however it really was not a good trip this time. Extremely disappointed!

Clean rooms. Great facilities. Staff 1st class and food in the bar are really nice with a good range to choose from. Could do with more tea, sugar, and milk in the room, but I say that about everywhere, lol

A great location, lots of free parking. Staff very friendly, loads of indoor seating areas. Beer prices average, they also serve food but haven’t tried it yet. We’ll be back.

The food was not up to standard and the beds were not comfortable. If it had not been for Ryan the morning supervisor trying to sort everything out, our stay would have been a disaster. Unfortunately I cannot recommend

No hand pulled beers at all, so had to have a pint of water as an alternative to lager being the only option 🍺🍺🍺

Would 100% recommend this place, morgan and ryan are definitely my favourite people, make me want to come back every time.

We ate here on Sunday & Monday evening. On Sunday we were served by Ellis on a particularly busy evening. He was very efficient & made our meal very enjoyable. On Monday we were served by Will who also made our evening thoroughly enjoyable.

Lunch 23rd August. One plate satisfactory. The other was ordered salmon steak with baby buttered potatoes. When it came there was a steak with a covering of herbs on a skin with the fish underneath. There was half a plateful of small potatoes with the rubbery dried out skins and I had to ask for butter. the garnish was a single thread of pea leaves. There was no inherent flavour and I asked for a sauce which was charged for but was the only thing that made this meal palatable and even that (hollandaise) was lumpy. This was crying out for less better fresh cooked potatoes (with butter evident) a flavour to the fish and either a proper small salad or petit pois. I am telling you rather than others, but it was awful really and I'm sorry I have to say this. Staff were kind and attentive but it looked as if the kitchen was offloading the last potatoes before a new fresh batch arrived.

The food is so nice, but the reason for 2 stars is how people are people complained about my children that are autistic, getting staff to ask to keep them quiet, think it needs to be more aware of children/adults with special needs. But the food was lovely and staff are really nice and helpful.

We celebrated my sons 21st here last night with family & friends (28 of us), the room they gave us was amazing, thankyou for that. The service was spot on all staff was friendly, Everybody enjoyed their food, no complaints, we will be returning, Well done Homlfield arms!! The girl on the till was fantastic at sorting everybody's bill out individually absolutely spot on. Thanks Dawn 👌

Food was good and enjoyed the outside eating area. Service was slow especially with the drinks, we had already had one course before they arrived. All in all it was a nice experience on a nice day. I would certainly visit again if we was at the park or around the area. The guy at the bar with the glasses was very helpful and polite when taking the food order, something I wanted to mention.

In a large group, we ate here last night. Poppy and Paige served us hot, tasty food. They were friendly, professional and attentive. Faith at the bar was equally courteous and professional sorting out so many separate bills accurately.

Good food in very good location and very reasonable prices. Definitely recommended 👌

We celebrated my parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary at The Holmfield Arms as a party of 21. We were seated in a lovely separated room with two long tables which we were able to decorate. All the staff I spoke to were friendly and helpful, especially our dedicated server Mel. The children loved being able to play outside on the play equipment before and after our meal. We were in a perfect place to be able to keep an eye on them. We had pre-ordered so the food all came out swiftly and together, it was tasty and hot. Mel was very patient with us waiting to bring out the Anniversary cake, trying to keep everyone seated is quite a task! She even cut the cake and brought us plates. We felt very looked after and enjoyed our evening very much.

It's usually lovely, this time my mac and cheese was not great! Swapped for a pudding so all good. Will go back

We stayed here but we're both sick after breakfast, being first in probably didn't help,food was undercooked an frozen,£20 to throw it all up again.Not a good sign 🤢

If location had 7 stars it would get them. The photos don't do justice to the setting. Imagine the biggest park where you live and drop a great pub and hotel in the middle. Staff were great and really helpful. I have sleep apnea and need a plug near the bed. In my room (and I assume all the others) the sockets are on the other wall. No problem. An extension lead was promptly delivered. Cannot recommend too highly. Well done management and staff.

Went here for a Sunday Dinner got two Sunday Roasts one Turkey the other trio of roasts. Turkey tasted like it was a frozen turkey breast that had being cooked and then to top it of a rotten potato roasted 🤮 Veg and Yorkshire Pudding was ok though won’t come here again for a Sunday Roast

So this is not the first time me and my partner have been here.the last time we came for food the burger was dry and the chips were luke warm my mixed grill was well what can I say I will definitely not be ordering that again.but this time around I have the burger and my partner had the pie which she absolutely loved but my burger came luke warm and I could taste more tomatoe than burger. The fries where cold and the onion rings just were tasteless don't know what is going on with your kitchen

We ordered brunch. The avocado/ egg toast wasn't very well presented, and tasted ok. The full English looked absolutely nothing like on the menu, and the third dish was not what we asked for but the server implied that's what was ordered, however, she did ask if we wanted to change it, but we felt it was too much trouble. On the whole the food was very average.

The food was lovely and the team were great.

First visit to The Holmfield Arms for a meal to celebrate my birthday, really loved the food, very well presented and good value. Staff really friendly and helpful. In a lovely setting in the park so after our meal we sat in the gardens for a drink. Would recommend and I will certainly be visiting again in the future.

I travelled to Wakefield from Australia with my partner (who's originally from Wakefield)for a family wedding, we researched a number of options for accommodation in the area and decided on Holmfield Arms. I fell in love with the place, the pub is cosy and homely and the accomodation was spacious and clean. I can't wait to visit again.

Had a really nice fry up here. No nonsense or faffed around with fry up. Staff were friendly and the area is nice to walk around.

Worst food we have ever been served . If you would like a mixed grill or a Sunday roast which is made from cheap processed food and gets served still frozen then this is the place for you ! 30ml of peppercorn sauce per portion , reheated chips , frozen turkey, uncooked sausages , uncooked chicken , uncooked pork etc etc etc etc . Homemade food prices for cheap microwaved food. Absolutely appalling . They need reporting to food standards as they are going to make someone seriously ill . 0 stars .

I took my daughter-in-law and 2 grandsons out for dinner. We were greeted by the fantastic Ryan who was an absolute joy, he seated us and took our drink orders. I'd go again just to see Ryan. He couldn't be more helpful if he tried. We were told that as the place was so busy and it was that our food might take a while. The food was well worth the wait which wasn't that long. The carvery was excellent and the apple crumble with custard was divine. It was a hot day busy day for the staff who were rushed off their feet but did it with a smile. The young lady who took our food order was also fantastic. All in all it was a fabulous experience and one I will repeat. Thank you to all the staff.

This place has been one of the loveliest places I have been to. Very nice people go there. Serene ambience, everyone was so respectful, staff were amazing, polite, helpful. Saturday's vibe was slightly different to Sunday. I would highly recommend you to take your girlfriend, wife, friend, partner, kid and really enjoy yourself.

came for our wedding anniversary the location is lovely been in the park. There was a cleaner working in the dining area, and I would have thought cleaners would have worked out of hours not peak Trading lunch time, didnt enjoy eating and looking at someone on there knees scrubbing skirting boards and table legs. service well we got taken to the dining area after waiting to be seated for ages with no acknowledgement of the staff walking past us through the door a kind someone will be with your shortly would have been nice, we were then to be left standing in the dining area, the lad having no clue where we should have been seated for our booked table, when we sat down no asking if we wanted any drinks nor any menus given to us, we had to go find some menus, we managed to ask someone for drinks after a while, food - the onion rings on my steak were all crushed together and cremated, part of my husbands mixed grill wasnt nice and it was left, won't be in any rush back

Lovely food, staff and atmosphere. Huge children’s play area had a great Saturday afternoon here. Will definitely be returning again soon

Visit quite regularly, just a quick note, l do not mind dogs , it’s the owners who , only a minority , let there dogs on the seating ,and run amock, also yesterday one couple who brought their own dog food, dished it out with the hotel’s cutlery then left the empty tin on the table with the fork inside , ido feel there should be some kind of rules in place for these kind of people Dog tied to the table while they ignored it moving about splashing its water dish all over the floor , is this your policy ?

Nice enough building and staff but unfortunately the food was very low standard across our table. Pie had rock solid pastry, burgers came dry without any sauce or salad, steak in ciabattas was cold, one bowl was chipped all over, go for a drink don't bother with food

Excellent coffee. Great location in the Park,sit inside or Alfresco. The building is very impressive. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Best regards from Paul C
